@awesometown Well, the Cube is exactly the same in the first and last panel, so some people think she set it back up for others, exactly how she found it. So, maybe she's waiting for/hiding until someone else to tries it?
Sorry, Sethisto, that's not DrForrester who did the work, these were drawn by The Kinky Turtle (he of "Pinkazoid" and "E/I" fame) and he's done two more:
Wow, Twilight's brought back a lot of old memories. I remember getting one of those cubes way back when I was in grade school; over 20 years ago. I saved up my allowance to get a book that showed you how to solve it, and yes, it used notations and diagrams just like Twilight used. I quickly made back my money by charging kids at school 50 cents to solve their cubes for them.
Of course, I couldn't solve one in a day if my life depended on it. Sigh.
Hi, KTurtle here. Yup, I'm the one who drew these. Source: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/6330619 is the first one, then follow the NEXT>>> links to see the rest.
Guess that's what I get for forgetting to sign them.
I second AJ and Rarity's opinion. I used to think my sister was a freaking genius for solving these things until I found out she was cheating and doing it the way Rainbow Dash did.
Personally, I'd love to take the thing and shoot it into the center of the sun. Dumb puzzle!
KTurtle, Apologies for getting credit for your work. I just posted them on neoGAF without knowing who made them and never claimed to have made them. Just thought they were great and wanted to share. Awesome work :).
No, Pinkie's is wrong (in either sense of the word). She should start out twisting it normally and the last frame has it ending up with all sides in pink.
I definitely relate to AJ on this. But these are simply awesome! Fluttershy, too cute and funny. <3 Of course RD cheated, oi. Impressed orange chicken though. <3 And darnit Pinkie!
Also: I posess my own cube. More often than not I'm either Applejack, or Rarity. Can never seem to get more than two sides right. Only ever solved it once, purely by accident.
.......... I'm a toss up of both Dash and AJ...... Usually, I start to get frustrated and start peeling the stickers off, and then half the time it ultimately FAILS, so I just throw it at the wall yelling how I just waisted ten seconds of my life.
Clearly she'd create a smokescreen illusion, quickly cast a freeze spell to break down the adhesive, magically levitate the stickers off and arrange them in the proper configuration, and then cast a light heat spell combined with a pressure encapsulation to reapply the stickers...
Bet her smoke screen would fade before she finished and she'd be booed out of Ponyville.
Fluttershy is best. Yes, Pinkie did it with her mouth*chuckle*, but Fluttershy solved it, then put it back EXACTLY how it was when she found it. That takes serious skill.
And I have to add, the only way I've ever "solved" a Rubik's cube is using Dash's method (I tried Twilight's once (the "real" way) but it was too boring)
I'm surprised that it was Rainbow Dash who solved it by taking it apart. I would have bet that Rarity would have done that. With all the dress making, she would be used to taking things apart like that.
@Conner Cogwork: It sounds like you are making the same error Rarity is. Try treating the cube as a three-layer cake and solve it one layer at a time, (e.g. do the top, then the middle then the bottom).[0]
@Firleycat: While Rarity might figure out how to disassemble the cube, she would also likely consider it cheating. Dash, OTOH, is very likely to explode the cube while she is working on it[1].
[0] Try doing the following sequences on solved cubes:
(R+L-)F+(R-L+)B2(R+L-)F+(R-L+)
(R+L-)F+(R-L+)B-(R+L-)F-(R-L+)B-(R+L-)F2(R-L+)
[1] I would not let her come anywhere near my speed cube. It is prone to exploding at the best of times because I loosened the screws to allow it to turn easier.
Twilights face when she solves it is awsome, i can really see Dash solving it like that, same with pinkie. Poor fluttershy though. Pretty sure me attempting to solve a Rubiks cube would just end up with a few million of them being sent to the moon, never had the patience.
Oh my god, these are all totally dead on! I love Twilight's expression when she's finished (a tad sleep deprived there?) and Dash and Pinkie's methods seem like they're right out of the show.
Next time someone is writing a comedy and needs a brief "what would x pony do in y situation?" summary, they should look at this comic.
LOL. I love these types of puzzles in 2-d but I can't handle the cubes. But I have TOTALLY "solved" a Rubik's cube by taking the stickers off before XD
Unfortunately, they never stick back on as well as they were stuck originally.....
AJ: Ah confound 'em yer fancy mathematics! Twi: Just after I write a short book about this, Spike. RD: (How does she do that with hooves?) Fluttershy: wat. Pinks: WAT!? Spike: Why did I had to go AFTER Pinkie Pie?
Twilight I was. Fluttershy I am. Appejack was my past. Rainbow Dash was my modus operandi then. I once had to act fast To save from a pinkie fate from my cousin aged 8
My friend gave me one of these for my birthday. I'm taking Twilight's approach to solving the damn thing.
I'm going to throw out a couple of guesses regarding other characters trying their hoof (or horn) at the puzzle:
Big Macintosh: Solves it in no time, says it was easy, leaves his sisters speechless.
Princess Celestia: Loses her patience with it and sends it to the moon.
Princess Luna: Solves it in no time, thinks it was too easy, makes 4D version.
Yes, there are software implementations of 4D and higher analogues of the Rubik's cube puzzle (and yes, they have been solved). There are also programs which implement similar puzzles based around other shapes, too.
Magic Cube 4D can serve as a starting point for these... exotic puzzles.
@Chaos Knux I think it's because she thought after solving it that someone wanted it all messed up, and that by 'fixing' it she'd done something wrong. That or KT's version of Fluttershy is even more withdrawn than the show's version.
And good on Rainbow Dash for calling out that phony Trixie!
@Rohit Eligeti Celestia will send it to the moon after she can't solve it "Just like that last one 998 years ago" and when when Luna sees it, she flips and destroys it. Because after you spent 998 years trying to solve one d*mn Rubiks Cube and never figured it out, you never want to see one again.

I'm pretty sure Applejack demonstrates how most people feel about Rubik's Cubes.
ReplyDeleteha pinkies the best
ReplyDeleteis this going to be like the socks thing?
ReplyDeletePinkie pie is a baws
ReplyDeletePinkie's is quite appropriate. :P
ReplyDeleteGoddammit, Pinkie.
ReplyDeleteHaha, I can definitely see this happening, especially Twilight's, Rainbow's, and Pinkie's.
ReplyDelete@obsidian.sword
ReplyDeleteI doubt it. its not cute
Oh Fluttershy, there's no need to be scared.
ReplyDeletefunny thing is i have my rubik's cube in front of me right now :P
ReplyDeleteFluttershy is just effin adawwable
ReplyDeletei didnt get why fluttershy was scared
ReplyDelete+1000 points to the author for using actual algorithms and correct move notation.
ReplyDelete...What? I regularly solve the cube. Im an afficionado.
Fluttershy one was worth a laugh
ReplyDeleteMy opinion towards Rubik's Cubes would be be the same as Applejacks and Rarity's
ReplyDeleteI feel Rarity's pain.
ReplyDeletePinkie Pie thats cheating
ReplyDeleteAh, Rubik's Cubes, one of the many banes of my existence but as with everything, adding ponies makes it better.
ReplyDeleteTypical Pinkie
ReplyDeleteDoes Applejack have anything going for her?
ReplyDeleteThe way Twilight did is probably the way I would have solved a rubix cube.
ReplyDeleteWait..
I never solved a rebix cube before! Hmm...
No Fluttershy its fine, It prefers to be unmixed up and no one minds you solving it.
ReplyDeleteI could see rarity being driven to the brink of insanity trying to solve one.
ReplyDelete@awesometown
ReplyDeleteWell, the Cube is exactly the same in the first and last panel, so some people think she set it back up for others, exactly how she found it. So, maybe she's waiting for/hiding until someone else to tries it?
Oh Pinkie Pie, why you gotta be so damn cute! These were all great, and I agree most with Rarity on this one...fecking hate these damn cubes.
ReplyDelete@awesometown
ReplyDeleteShe was afraid she'd been messing with someone else's possession, so she made sure to put it back exactly the way she found it, and then hid.
I love these things, but i'm often acting like Rarity or Applejack after a while.
ReplyDeletePinkie's = Dirtiest Joke Ever.
ReplyDeleteMy response to the rubik's cube challenge was Twilight Sparkle's.
ReplyDeleteThe results might be different if you challenged Rainbow Dash to do it faster than the world record.
ReplyDelete@TenchiFreak5
ReplyDeleteLulz
Fluttershy's was cute but....kinda confusing.

ReplyDeleteGive Twilight this. (I can solve that).

Or these.
Oh, I used to be so into Twistypuzzles...
The Rubix Cube:
ReplyDeleteJust one of the many things my nation has invented.
Ponies + eveything: this is the way life shall go from now on!

I once thought about doing it like Rainbow Dash, then I was afraid I would break it, so I threw it aside like Applejack.
ReplyDeleteWell, at least that JUNG test has something going for it: both Rarity and I have NO PATIENCE FOR THOSE THINGS!
ReplyDelete(Don't pretend you haven't taken it and gotten a stupid answer too. At least I got Luna every time I tried after that.)
Wow, Twilight's brought back a lot of old memories. I remember getting one of those cubes way back when I was in grade school; over 20 years ago. @wbwolf
ReplyDeleteHooray! Moar!
so if tying a cherry stem in a not with your tongue makes you a good kisser whats that make pinkie.
ReplyDeleteOh, and inb4 someone makes a 'Celestia sends the cube to the moon because she can't solve it' joke.
ReplyDeleteRainbow dash's comic is awesome, the look on scootaloo's face is priceless!
ReplyDeleteRainbow Dash's perfectly matched my discovery when I was a kid:)
ReplyDelete@Quell
ReplyDeleteDo/did you have a Twistypuzzles com or Speedsolving com account? Those are my most visited sites =D
I am DrForester over at Neogaf
ReplyDeleteI DID NOT MAKE THESE. I found these originally on the Pony-Goons forum.
Yea, wbwolf has it, that's Kturtle's work, zero idea who DrForester is. There's probably an error of info/judgement somewhere
ReplyDeleteHeh Heh. Dumb puzzle.
ReplyDeleteAnd that's why I love you Twilight.
ReplyDeleteThese are really clever. I like the "different ponies perform the same task differently" theme.
ReplyDeleteThese are hilarious. And the solutions are so true to each pony. Awesome job!
ReplyDeleteToo many fancy mathematics for Applejack to handle.
ReplyDeleteOoop!
ReplyDeleteHi, KTurtle here. Yup, I'm the one who drew these. Source: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/6330619 is the first one, then follow the NEXT>>> links to see the rest.

Although I did put the copyright info along the sides; take a close look.

ReplyDeleteOh my, this made me crack up so hard. Lol Scootaloo especially. XD
ReplyDeletelulz at RDs, FUCKIN' SCOOTALOO
ReplyDeleteFluttershys didn't make sense though, if it takes Twilight so long to figure it out, surely Fluttershy wouldn't be able to
Love these comics, though don't forget the Derpy one!
ReplyDeletehttp://www.furaffinity.net/view/6352355
It's thanks to Fluttershy's freaky knowledge o' combinatorics! And her crippling self-consciousness, but that's a part o' who she is, sugarcube.
ReplyDeleteTwilight = Doing it right.
ReplyDeleteFluttershy... well technically that counts. I also like how she manages to get it back in the same exact position she found it.
Pinkie = well, Pinkie.
As for the rest, good effort. At least they all tried first.
I definitely relate to AJ on this. But these are simply awesome! Fluttershy, too cute and funny. <3 Of course RD cheated, oi. Impressed orange chicken though. <3 And darnit Pinkie!
ReplyDelete@Namefag Anon
ReplyDeleteFluttershy is patient, so...
Duh
Also, I didn't understood the Derpy one :/
ReplyDeleteOf course, Twilight would be the one willing to learn the algorithms.
ReplyDeleteFluttershy is afraid of anyone finding out she actually solved it, and thus, completely unsolved it to the exact state it was left in.
ReplyDeleteYou can almost hear her *meep* when she realizes hat she's done in the 4th panel.
@Gio
ReplyDeleteLook at the pattern on the cube faces.
@MidnightTraceur
ReplyDeleteYes, as Draconic, but I hardly ever visit anymore.
Look at what the faces of the Rubik's Cube spell out in the Derpy comic...
ReplyDelete@Gio
ReplyDeleteIt's the letters that the non-white colors are forming: "DERP"
I laughed. A lot. ^_^
ReplyDeleteI used to play with those things in the 80s.
I still have one in my house.
And I can still solve it in less than 5 minutes. ^_^
Ponies solving puzzles? yes that is awesome
ReplyDeleteHahaha, this made my day.
ReplyDeleteI would of known Rainbow Dash would of done that.
ReplyDeleteI wonder what the Great and Powerful Trixie would have done.
Scootaloo's face of awe made me laugh out loud.
ReplyDeletehuuurrr duuurrr now I see it :B
ReplyDeleteI guess that "muffins" was a little long to spell in rubik cubes, ah?
i am rainbowdash first then twilight second
ReplyDeleteI...was not aware Pinkie's tongue was quite that...dextrous.
ReplyDeleteAhhh KT Turtle, Frequent churner of Pony works, and good ones at that too. Yet another rousing success!
ReplyDeleteAlso: I posess my own cube. More often than not I'm either Applejack, or Rarity. Can never seem to get more than two sides right. Only ever solved it once, purely by accident.
ReplyDeleteCan solve in less than a minute *smug face*
ReplyDeleteWow go Fluttershy and Pinkie. Oh and Pinkie you got to clean up afterwards girl that was just disgustingly rude.
ReplyDeleteCan solve in less than 15 seconds. Am proud.
ReplyDelete..........
ReplyDeleteI'm a toss up of both Dash and AJ...... Usually, I start to get frustrated and start peeling the stickers off, and then half the time it ultimately FAILS, so I just throw it at the wall yelling how I just waisted ten seconds of my life.
@Rainbow Dash

Bet her smoke screen would fade before she finished and she'd be booed out of Ponyville.
And boast the whole time... Forgot that part. The Great and Powerful Trixie will be The Great and Powerful Trixie after all!
ReplyDeleteNew comic

@wbwolf
ReplyDeleteBut a rubber chicken always works. D:
There's a new one; Ditzy/Derpy completes one side but since her vision is not the best, she can't see that the others are still scrambled.
ReplyDeletelol @ Scootaloo.
ReplyDeleteOkay, Twilight. You're so smart. Let's see what you make of the Rubik's Snake.
ReplyDelete@DreadedCandiru2
ReplyDeleteShe does a little more than that with hers ;)
Fluttershy is best. Yes, Pinkie did it with her mouth*chuckle*, but Fluttershy solved it, then put it back EXACTLY how it was when she found it. That takes serious skill.
ReplyDeleteFlutterShy will now stay in the bush and observe.
ReplyDelete"You don't know where it's being Spike! You don't know where it's being! ahahaha" - in Tyler Durden voice
ReplyDeleteSpike's made me lol so hard.
ReplyDelete@Crackle
ReplyDeleteIt makes her the best at parties.
@wbwolf That gave me a good laugh. XD
ReplyDeleteAwesome work! Especially loved the Fluttershy one :p
LOL Scootaloo. Now she'll want a rubix cube cutie mark.
ReplyDeleteAlso Fluttershy's is so cute. "Oh my, now nobody else can play! Oh Fluttershy, you're such a spoilsport!"
Spike is damned right, Twilight. Back in the kitchen, woman!
ReplyDelete@Octavia
ReplyDeleteRainbow didn't cheat! She solved the puzzle!
And I'm not a chicken!
These are great! I lol'd at Pinkie's!
ReplyDeleteAnd I have to add, the only way I've ever "solved" a Rubik's cube is using Dash's method (I tried Twilight's once (the "real" way) but it was too boring)
ReplyDeleteI once solved a Rubik's Cube using Rainbow Dash's method... it wasn't until halfway through putting it back together I found out it was broken.
ReplyDeleteI'm surprised that it was Rainbow Dash who solved it by taking it apart. I would have bet that Rarity would have done that. With all the dress making, she would be used to taking things apart like that.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely brilliant!
ReplyDeleteHahahahaha, brilliant! Reactions are pretty much what you'd expect from them.
ReplyDelete*looks at a long forgotten drawer in the darkest corner of his room*
ReplyDeleteOne day I will solve your riddles. I will get you! I swear I will !!!
(( Fluttershy made me laugh <3 ))
@Conner Cogwork: It sounds like you are making the same error Rarity is. Try treating the cube as a three-layer cake and solve it one layer at a time, (e.g. do the top, then the middle then the bottom).[0]
ReplyDelete@Firleycat: While Rarity might figure out how to disassemble the cube, she would also likely consider it cheating. Dash, OTOH, is very likely to explode the cube while she is working on it[1].

I knew you'd post this sooner or later. XD
ReplyDeleteHahhaa, i'm totally AJ or RD when it comes to these!
ReplyDeleteTwilights face when she solves it is awsome, i can really see Dash solving it like that, same with pinkie. Poor fluttershy though. Pretty sure me attempting to solve a Rubiks cube would just end up with a few million of them being sent to the moon, never had the patience.
ReplyDelete@wbwolf ROFL OH Goodness that was FUNNY!
ReplyDeleteI am SO like Rainbow Dash here.....

Kinkyturtle's still at it, folks! http://www.furaffinity.net/view/6358283/
ReplyDeleteOops, had linkifier on. Here's a working link!
ReplyDeleteOh poor Fluttershy...
ReplyDeletePS: I can solve it in an average of 40 seconds :D
ReplyDeleteLOL. I love these types of puzzles in 2-d but I can't handle the cubes. But I have TOTALLY "solved" a Rubik's cube by taking the stickers off before XD

AJ: Ah confound 'em yer fancy mathematics!
ReplyDeleteTwi: Just after I write a short book about this, Spike.
RD: (How does she do that with hooves?)
Fluttershy: wat.
Pinks: WAT!?
Spike: Why did I had to go AFTER Pinkie Pie?
Twilight I was. Fluttershy I am.
ReplyDeleteAppejack was my past.
Rainbow Dash was my modus operandi then.
I once had to act fast
To save from a pinkie fate
from my cousin aged 8
^Wrote that in one go, and I shall take its fail.
also, I have my 4*4*4 right here next to me.
That's them, alright

Hehe, Loved them all.
ReplyDeleteI don't quite follow Fluttershy's logic in fearing the cube though, she kicked it square ass, why is she scared?
@Chaos Knux I think it's because she thought after solving it that someone wanted it all messed up, and that by 'fixing' it she'd done something wrong. That or KT's version of Fluttershy is even more withdrawn than the show's version.
ReplyDeleteAnd good on Rainbow Dash for calling out that phony Trixie!
Wow Pinkie solves the cube the same way I do, although it works better for her
ReplyDeleteI think that Fluttershy remembered that she is out of character so she reshuffles the cube and pretends to be scared.
ReplyDelete@Dr.Cthulu: Nah, Pinkie is just 'Pinkie keen'
ReplyDeleteOh twilight! ^_^
ReplyDeleteI wanna see how Celestia and Luna does! <3
