What's funny is it took me a few moments to realize how wrong Rarity driving is, and now it's my favorite thing about this comic. It's wrong and hilarious at the same time!
Well to be fair, maybe if rarity told her to clean it up, she may have earned her cutie mark. I mean all occupations have a cutie mark, we haven't seen a custodian or janitor yet. ^_^
Your friendly neighborhood spritesguy here to ruin things for you with fridge logic. Sweetie Belle being the sister of a clothier, wouldn't she have been to places that have dressing rooms before? Also, they'd need restrooms, for obvious reasons, but why do they need dressing rooms? They "don't normally wear clothes".
@Anonymous I've assumed they use squat toilets. Though Lyra probably owns the world's only pedestal toilet.
As for the comic, or rather, the article comment about the comic... all this time, I've been wondering why I see so many portrayals of Sweetie Belle as mentally deficient, and had been wondering where is came from. I guess I never associated her mistake in costume making as an indicator of stupidity; I just saw it as not properly focused on the big picture of the costume.
@Krizak I've always assumed squat toilets too, makes the most sense. Having used them a few times in the past, I can see how they would be the most common sense method.
Now, how long until someone draws Lyra on a toilet :)
Man, that last panel... that is such an archetypal childhood experience. The aftermath of a particularly egregious screw up. Has anyone not been there? Strapped in the car with an deeply upset parent/guardian, so shamed that all you can do is stare blankly at nothing and pray that tomorrow comes quickly while you meekly take in their completely justifiable fury. That's such an inescapable part of growing up it makes cars spontaneously generate in Equestria.
There are several hints in the show that Sweetie Belle is slow.
Quoting from mlp.wikia.com:
"On several occasions, Sweetie Belle has seemed a bit slow on the uptake. Often times, she pauses for a moment before catching on. When the CMC are at Fluttershy's house in the episode Stare Master and Scootaloo and Apple Bloom pretend to be a monster from the Everfree Forest, Sweetie Belle meets their playfulness with a blank stare for a moment before joining in. Several times in The Show Stoppers, she asks her friends to explain to her what's going on. "
That said, I love Sweetie Belle, her hair is adorable.
...Um I mean uh... cars! Race cars and explosions. Yep!
Slow? No. Just not as hyper as the others. If anything she's SMARTER than the other two-- as she's the only one to constantly urge the others to try something SAFER than whatever they're attempting at the moment.
Even Apple Bloom thinks that Sweetie Belle's brain damaged, that's the funny part. "Oh, I WONDERED why all the colours looked like mud!" "...You aren't using any power tools, are you?"
Dude, I can drive with my knees while lighting a pipe. You just have to push on the wheel with your palms, you don't HAVE to death-grip the damn thing.
Unless you happen not to have power assisted steering, in which case you're fucked.
Actually, not really. I screwed up plenty but I was always in the back seat staring out the window while mom fumed up front. But man she could yell when we got home.
Reason # 283 why I'm NEVER having kids. Not that anyone cares.
That Swettie Belle.. such an adorable little airhead <3 and omg Rarity driving! the insanity XD Loved the comic it was a great way to start my morning iwth a good bowl of lucky charms and a few laughs thanks to this comic! <3
P.S. are you still going to work on finishing that funny crossover comic with Danteshy, Pinkypool, Appleken, Twichigo comic you had going there? #4 and omghosh #5 got me so hooked! SAVE CELESTIA GUYS! XD
(Bah forgot my DA password so posting this here! hope it gets seen some how ><)
Yeah, Sweetie Bell is probably the slow one of the CMC. Even though Rarity is her older sister, she didn't know what a mannequin was. Also, in episode 17, Stare Master, she didn't know what upset the chickens (despite it being her singing) and it took her a couple moments to figure out why Scootaloo and Apple Bloom were dressed like a monster. Still though, she's cute as hell and I love her expression in the last panel.
I hope they don't change Sweetie Belle's mental state, however slow it may be. In fact that is what I love most about her. She's just so darn cute when doesn't quite get what's going on around her. Kind of reminds me of Alice from Alice in Wonderland.
I knew what a ponyquin was, I just didn't know what it was for. I see figures like that in store windows all the time back home in Manehatten. How was I supposed to know they made dresses on them?
So I just edited the image to fix the double negative and then read on here that she already fixed it .. oh well here's the link anyways (I went with "can't ever" instead of "can never"):
As to the car and people wondering what it is. It appears to be some kind of anachronism. The interior is mid-90s to mid 2000s (Chrysler Concorde? 300M? Knowing Rarity, I wouldn't be surprised). THe mirrors, though, appear perfectly round, which hasn't been done in quite a while as far as I know.
Now that I've posted this, I'm sure my guesses based on a large-but-patchy knowledge of cars will be blown apart by someone who owns/owned a Concorde/300M and knows it looks different.
Anyway, the closest I can come is an 810-series Nissan Bluebird, but that may not even have the right mirror shape and it's a bit too old to have an interior that looks like that.
Um, typo. In the last panel, Rarity said "We CAN'T never go back to that store again." DOub;e negative. Also, what did Sweetie Belle think it was? Do I even want to know?

Sweetie Belle, how could you?
ReplyDeleteAwwww but Sweetie Belle is my favorite Cutie Mark Crusader
ReplyDeleteHey, wait a minute... how is Rarity driving?
ReplyDeleteI love you, Seth.
ReplyDeleteAhaha, oh Sweetie Belle, the slow yet lovable CMC. Also, why is Rarity driving a car at the end? My whole world is falling apart!
ReplyDeletePoor, poor Sweetie Belle. Ironically enough, that reminds of that one scene in Bridesmaids.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite part is how she's just driving.
ReplyDelete@TheguywithZeldasprites MAGIC
ReplyDeleteO_O Rarity used a double negative!
ReplyDeleteNo, but this comic is hilarious.

Is it weird that my art class spent a whole day talking about stuff like this?
ReplyDelete+1 approve of ponies driving cars!
ReplyDelete>Ponies Driving cars
ReplyDeleteoh Madmax we love you
oh dressing room that explains alot.
ReplyDeleteOh, Mad Max...I want to be you when I grow up.
ReplyDeleteSweetie Belle's face in the last panel is just priceless.
ReplyDeleteThis stuff only makes me love that little airhead more! Season two needs more SB singing.
ReplyDeleteRarity drives a mustang.
ReplyDeleteAt least rarity is unable to ban her to the moon for that sort of thing...
ReplyDeletei don't get it D:
ReplyDeleteHuh, didn't realize cars were already invented
ReplyDelete"can't never"
ReplyDeleteLearn 2 english
I'd like to see more ponies in cars.
ReplyDeleteYou can't really blame Sweetie for being an airhead when her sister can't even use proper English...
ReplyDeleteThat explains the smell at A&F. Oh wait, they were at JC Pony.
ReplyDeleteSo that explains why there was no toilet paper in that room...
ReplyDeleteAnd all the yelling when I left.
Well, we've all been there, riiiiiiiiight fella's???
ReplyDeleteNo... just me... okay, that's fine.
Didn't Homer Simpson do that first?
ReplyDeletePonies in cars. Success.
ReplyDeleteIt wasn't her fault, the fabric was being dumb.
ReplyDelete@Anonymous
ReplyDeleteSimpsons did everything first
This, of course, leads to a question that has been eating at me for quite a while...
ReplyDeleteWhat do pony bathrooms look like? How do they work?
What's funny is it took me a few moments to realize how wrong Rarity driving is, and now it's my favorite thing about this comic. It's wrong and hilarious at the same time!
ReplyDeleteI THINK THIS MAY HAVE STARTED A MEME.
Well to be fair, maybe if rarity told her to clean it up, she may have earned her cutie mark. I mean all occupations have a cutie mark, we haven't seen a custodian or janitor yet. ^_^
ReplyDeleteO_0 Uh-oh indeed
ReplyDelete>implying the text is actually green
ReplyDelete>mfw
I dunno what's funnier. The joke or the fact she's driving a car.
ReplyDeleteDid Hasbro put out a Rarity in a car toy we don't know about?
Ahahahahaha, this is just golden. I LOVE IT.
ReplyDelete"We can't never go back to that store again"
ReplyDelete"We can't never"
*twitch*
do you guys think she has a cut out twilight standing on the backseat?
ReplyDelete>can't never
ReplyDeleteshe just corrected it over her DA
Was a great comic though, loved it.
ReplyDeleteBTW, uhm, did the same thing when I was a kid LOL

XD at the fact that she's driving a car.
ReplyDeleteYou'd be surprised how often this actually happens. Just ask a janitorial staff member at your local retail store of choice.
ReplyDeleteI watched to many porn to know what was the first panel was.
ReplyDeleteWhen I saw the title, for a split second I thought it was going to be about the happenings on /co/ currently.
ReplyDeletePonypocalypse 2.0 is currently happening.
Rarity driving is best part.
ReplyDeleteShe pulled a Homer Simpson.
ReplyDeleteAll I can say is it better be a Renault Modus because I was right in the middle of drawing Rarity in a Modus when this post came up.
ReplyDelete@Krizak
ReplyDeleteI've always assumed squat toilets too, makes the most sense. Having used them a few times in the past, I can see how they would be the most common sense method.

Poor Sweetie Belle. Everyone thinks you're slow just because you are.
ReplyDeleteStill my favorite CMC.
@TGPFluttershysaw something like that in simpsons. such an old joke that never gets old
ReplyDeleteThe first thing I said was why is Rarity driving a car? lol
ReplyDelete*Hugs Sweetie Belle*
ReplyDeleteI always thought she was a klutz, not slow.
ReplyDeleteHowever, I will never NOT laugh at these comics of SlowBell.
@SajinZerono, the chinese did
ReplyDeleteDumb toilet paper.
ReplyDeleteAnd now I have to clean it up...
ReplyDelete@TheguywithZeldasprites
ReplyDeleteBy the power of : MAGIC !
...and magnetic sterring wheel, for non-unicorns.
They have to wear a magnetic hoof-glove thingy, to be able to 'move' the (magnetic) sterring wheel.
(Equestrian Inovation MUST patent this. ;))

ReplyDeleteIts official. Seat-belts are the new socks. how cute is that?
ReplyDeletei like how they have a car
ReplyDeleteWhat? Sweetie Belle needs no reputation repair. She's the voice of reason for the CMCs.
ReplyDeleteIs it terrible that my first thought was not "bathroom?"
ReplyDelete@Krizak

lulz, one of the best comics in a while
ReplyDeleteBUT DAMNIT SETH, ARE YOU TRYING TO MAKE ME JELLY?!
>commenters will never be able to greentext
>feelsbadman.jpg
Oh goodness. Sweetie Belle! Maybe she can sing her way out of it? That would be an interesting song...
ReplyDeleteThe experience was so traumatizing that it made Rarity talk like Apple Jack.
ReplyDeleteMadmax is still best comic artist.
ReplyDeleteAww, poor Sweetie Belle! She looks scared out of her mind.
ReplyDeleteUh-ohs in stores, double negatives, and ponies driving cars with hooves.
ReplyDeleteI approve
ATTENTION.
ReplyDeleteThis has occurred in real life.
Slow? No. Just not as hyper as the others.
ReplyDeleteIf anything she's SMARTER than the other two-- as she's the only one to constantly urge the others to try something SAFER than whatever they're attempting at the moment.
So did she "export" her wastes or clop in there?
ReplyDeleteEven Apple Bloom thinks that Sweetie Belle's brain damaged, that's the funny part.
ReplyDelete"Oh, I WONDERED why all the colours looked like mud!"
"...You aren't using any power tools, are you?"
Now they'll mystically refuse when anyone asks them if they'd wish to tag along to the city.
ReplyDelete@Octavia Oh lord, an "Everypony Poops" number?
ReplyDeleteOld fashioned restrooms do look an awful lot like old fashioned dressing rooms...easy mistake.
ReplyDelete>inb4 Season 2 Sweetie Belle's cutie mark is a Bohr atom
ReplyDelete@Anonymous
ReplyDeleteSure. That will work!
trololol :P
ReplyDeleteINB4 Cars in MLP when slice of life themed episodes appear
ReplyDeleteAlso how come Sweetie Bellee is the dumb one? when she supposedly can write frigging lyrics all the time
I'm not dumb! I just though it was the bathroom.
ReplyDeleteThat colt I met told me it was.
Ten minutes? Uh oh indeed, what a smelly hell caused by sweetie belle *smacked*
ReplyDelete@Sweetie Belle
ReplyDeleteIf rarity hadn't annoyed blueblood so much you'd have been sent to the moon for this.
@Sweetie Belle
ReplyDeleteAwww, sweetie, nopony thinks you're dumb, not really... c'mere, have a Jaffa Cake.
Cool, Rarity can drive a car^^(That's why she is the best pony)
ReplyDelete@Sweetie Belle it's okay sweetie we know you're not. also say hi to fluttershy for me!
ReplyDelete@TheguywithZeldasprites

Ahh Sweetie Belle, you are a very very SPECIAL pony. :)
ReplyDeleteAnd for those getting on Madmax's case for the double negitive. If I recall shes not an English speaker.
Reminds of that one scene in Beavis and Butt-head Do America.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad to see that they are both wearing seat belts however is SB old enough to not be in a car seat!
ReplyDeleteThe expressions are awesome
ReplyDeleteHorse cars FTW!
ReplyDelete@Sweetie Belle -- Aww, no one thinks that you're dumb, dear! You're a little filly, you'll have, ahem, accidents once in a while.
ReplyDeleteNow, if you did the same thing when you were 20 or 30... (Yes, I've worked in stores where this happened. No, you don't want to know any more.)
Poor Sweetie Belle
ReplyDeleteYeah, Sweetie Bell is probably the slow one of the CMC. Even though Rarity is her older sister, she didn't know what a mannequin was. ReplyDeleteOh
ReplyDeleteMy

Oo
@Nichon I assumed the CMCs were around 10-12, she probably is.
ReplyDelete@Sweetie Belle We've all had moments like that at one point or another, as a young colt I did some pretty clueless things myself.
ReplyDeleteSo I just edited the image to fix the double negative and then read on here that she already fixed it .. oh well here's the link anyways (I went with "can't ever" instead of "can never"):

Lol Rarity is driving.
ReplyDeletePonies driving cars... that's new to me xD
ReplyDeletecant...stop laughing
ReplyDeletethey can go back, infact they can go back and not worry about waiting in line. its hers now XD
