That crazy battlemaster Luna!
I've turned Anon commenting off for the time being. My suggestion to all of you who use it primarily: create a Blogger.com account. That's the best way to sync with EQD at least. There are 6 other options in the comment dropdown menu to also use.
I might enable it again in the future, but for now tension is pretty high with the copyright thing.

This is going to be interesting :3
ReplyDeleteThat seems like a solution, but is it really that bad?
ReplyDeleteThank you!
ReplyDeleteThe fandom will slowly make sense again.
Sounds fair. Also, will make responding to people easier.
ReplyDeleteYay, no more GIFT.
ReplyDeleteOh it's that simple then. I was worried to post with my Google account and that it would show my full name.
ReplyDeleteGood then.
Thanks for the heads up. Hopefully we're all still ok.
ReplyDeleteYEEEAAAUUHHH!
ReplyDeleteNow, see. This is what I'm talking about. Disabled anonymous posting is what I've been advocating for a hell of a long time. Anyone with anything meaningful to say will bite the bullet and make an account and it raises the bar for entry, so many trolls will just feel way too apathetic to jump through the necessary hoops to spew their shit.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Seth.
Thank god for that. NO MORE FIRST POSTS CONSTANTLY.
ReplyDeleteThank you! hopefully no more "first"s "second"s and "not first"s. Less paraspriting and real comments (hopefully)
ReplyDeleteThis pleases Raven. Carry on.
ReplyDeleteEven though I normally posted using Anonymous, I approve.
ReplyDeleteI guess this is a good thing, means it makes it harder for parasprites
ReplyDeleteMeh
ReplyDeleteWell, looks like whenever I do comment (which is normally never) Ill have to sign in. I never did before because Im too lazy.
ReplyDeleteSethisto is a silly filly.
ReplyDeleteThis is DEFINITELY for the best.
ReplyDeleteLet's play a game. It's called "Shh."
ReplyDeleteWoo! That/Those annon troll(s) were annoying.
ReplyDeleteWow I can't wait to hear how the anons will complain about th- OH WAIT!
ReplyDeleteIn all seriousness, thank heavens for this. It's probably for the best.
Cool. Now it's easier to isolate trolls.
ReplyDeleteSeems like a rational idea. Good choice Sethisto.
ReplyDeleteI do hereby approve of this action.
ReplyDeleteThere will still be first stuff, but maybe less. Also, I remember when I was an anon, and I decided to make an account. It was helpful that I already had an account on Google, but if some people really like the fandom, they will make an account.
ReplyDeleteWoohoo.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for doing what you could to defuse the situation. You deserve a break after all of this, Seth. :)
ReplyDeleteI understand, and approve of, this.
ReplyDeleteyay~
ReplyDeleteWay to go!
ReplyDeleteWise choice, man. Wise choice.
ReplyDeleteNo more "first" / "second" / "Ilikepancakes" comments, for now.
While I understand why this was done, and I support it especially right now with the blatant anon spam that was going on earlier, I do honestly hope this is just a temporary thing. While I've finally become comfortable in posting with a set name, I know it took few a few weeks of posting anonymously before I felt comfortable enough to take that step.
ReplyDeleteAgain, I fully understand why it was done here and now, and I support it too. I just hope this doesn't stay on as a permanent thing.
Was wondering why it was still on... If you have something constructive to say, ya go make an acc / login, if not, why are you even posting?
ReplyDeleteAnyways, nice move.
Fair enough, even if I'd hafta sign up for a new one to get my preferred "nom d'internet" for the fandom.
ReplyDeleteSeems fair to me.
ReplyDeletethank you seth best idea ever
ReplyDeleteSeth, do the fandom a favor. DON'T turn it back in.
ReplyDeleteNot in a few days, weeks, or months.
Bronies with anything meaningful to say will make an account.
I prefer using anon commenting, but whatever. I made a blogger account by accident a long time ago, so no problem.
ReplyDeleteKind of means people who are shy and prefer to comment with no name (like me) are buggered, but oh well.
ReplyDeletethis is more important, anyway.
Im still going to post first if I ever get it! (don't worry I never get it)
ReplyDeleteWell okay then. I usually post anon but it is for the best
ReplyDeleteI hope that this will all just blow over soon
ReplyDeleteWith all the "Hub" bub around the YouTube trolling, good move.
ReplyDeleteI'm not 100% on this right away. Who knows, maybe this will get a Blogger revolution going and be the Sonic Rainboom that turns EqD into the promised land. Or it's the first step on bronydom being the next elitist thing on the internet.
My bits are on the former. Seeing all the comments with blue names and avatars DOES feel very very good, though.
@Oleetar
ReplyDeleteMake a blogger account named "anon!"
I can live with that. The amount of shit posting on new stories over the past few days have been ridiculous. This is a good temporary solution.
ReplyDeleteI think this will be a great little experiment! It will be great to see names varying other than constantly seeing anonymous, anonymous, anonymous, anonymous, anonymous, anonymous, anonymous, anonymous, anonymous, anonymous, anonymous, anonymous, anonymous, anonymous, anonymous, and anonymous posting.
ReplyDeleteAnd suddenly so much less trolling.
ReplyDeleteIn all actuality, this pleases me. Most of the negative, annoying and unnecessary comments I see on Equestria Daily come from anonymous posters. People with real, legitimate beefs use an ID of some sort. It's a tough step (NOT a drastic one), and I, for one, approve heartily.
ReplyDeleteEspecially since the bozo who posts "FIRST!" is almost always an anon...
I approve of this.
ReplyDeletePersonally, I dont mind. Anons are nice and easy to use, but it's nice to not see giant flame wars...
ReplyDeletePip, pip, jolly good.
ReplyDeleteIt's all for the best. While most Anons were normal fine people, the recent boom in just insulting comments is just annoying.
ReplyDeleteKeep Anon posting off.
FOREVER
@milesprower06
ReplyDeleteSeconded so hard. Seth, just leave anon commenting off. I swear there is nothing it won't improve. The general atmosphere, the amount of trolls will diminish (obviously not disappear) and the "first", "second", "third" stuff will pretty much be abolished.
For the love of all that is good, Seth. Keep anon posting off.
sigh thank celestia for that
ReplyDeleteTODAY IS BEST DAY
ReplyDeleteThanks Seth! Quick and easy way to put a lid on it. I was only using anon because I was lazy...
ReplyDeleteWoot?
ReplyDeleteI endorse this.
ReplyDeleteLE GASP!
ReplyDeleteBut now how will I post under my King Hussie alias? Or my /v/icodin alias? Or my vi/co/din alias? Or my-
What? I get around a lot, it helps to have a few extra names up yer sleeve.
Likely for the best, indeed.
ReplyDeleteHA! something good came from the trolling! MUHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! We, much like Philamena, ARISE AGAIN!
ReplyDeleteIt's a shame the trolls have forced this to happen, but it's for the best, and EqD will be better off overall.
ReplyDeleteFINALLY.
ReplyDeleteNot that it's a wanted thing to do, but given the sudden resurgence of people trolling EVERY post, I would say it's for the best :)
Disregard the haters Seth, SOMEPONY has to pull the fandom forwards.
So i must be forced to login for my one comment a month? so be it.
ReplyDeleteAnd suddenly the trolling is gone.
ReplyDeleteI approve of this. I'd been meaning to create an account so I could stop posting anonymously anyway.
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteokay.jpg
ReplyDelete*sigh*
ReplyDeleteI kinda liked anonymous posting, but I guess this isn't too bad. Probably because of the profile pic I have and can't be bothered changing right now...
I approve of this action, since the term 'anonymous' is more synonymous with 'license to be a jackass'
ReplyDeleteOh, look. I made a rhyme. =P
ITT: people who take the internet seriously and get offended by anonymous comments
ReplyDeleteFinally. No more parasprites. Today has been a good day.
ReplyDeleteIt's for the best, I suppose.
ReplyDelete...yay...
ReplyDeletefinally got a blogger account.
I prefer to be unanonymous.
ReplyDeleteMuch more fun that way.
Blah. Now to post I have to submit to the Google empire. I was hoping to put it off for a little while longer. Ah well, probably for the best for EqDaily, even if not for my best.
ReplyDeleteNO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO. this Fandom was BORN from anonnimity, this is a massively elitist and douchey move, Ristricting people is NEVER a solution, and your more or less forcing probably a majority of the sites visitors to make an account they may not want to make in order to comment, all because some people can't deal with some trolls, really I saw tons of registered people in the whole freakout over youtube (which by the way was one of this fandoms worst moments, seriously you guys probably just made things worse)
ReplyDeletenow you elitist pricks, get the hell out of this fandom which was after all born out of a haven of anonimity.
I approve this decision.
ReplyDeleteI'm ok with this and don't mind if it stays off.
ReplyDeletenow, to find a suitable profile pic! TO THE INTERN-oh wait, I'm already here.
ReplyDeleteThese articles might be a lot more pleasant from now on.
ReplyDeleteTHANK YOU!
ReplyDeleteSETH, HAVE MY GIRLFRIEND'S BABIES!
This made me finally set up an actual account instead of typing my screen name every time
ReplyDelete@Azmaria agreed
ReplyDeleteThis won't eliminate trolls, but at least we know they hate us enough to actually make an account, which means we got to them.
ReplyDeleteLet's see how this turns out.
ReplyDeleteI wholeheartedly agree with this decision.
ReplyDeleteblogger account is also linked with my Google account. and my you tube account.....
ReplyDeleteso im good
Still, I dunno what brought this about, but I was rather comfortable posting as an Anon.
ReplyDeleteAlso, what about anons who casually post? A comment here or there when they read a good story. It is what I usually did. It isn't really fair to the people who don't comment on every post, but comment once in a great while with something meaningful to say. They may decide it just isn't worth the effort. I think anon commenting should be turned back on eventually, but not now. I just don't think it is fair to the casual fans. Sure it may stop trolls for a while, but it may also stop casual fans with good things to say. Oh well.
ReplyDeleteIt's about bucking time, thanks Seth.
ReplyDeleteConfound these ponies they drive me to make a google acount.
ReplyDeleteShould be easier to follow discussions this way. I'm okay with this.
ReplyDeleteI'm weeks ahead of you xD
ReplyDeleteDefinitely a good move. For those scared about posting with an identity: If you're unwilling to put your name by what you're saying then don't say it.
ReplyDeleteWhat? We couldn't tolerate the spammers? Hehehe... Just kidding. Anons are gonna freak over this. Oh wait, no they won't.
ReplyDelete@Altercation
ReplyDeleteI agree totally. I've seen some trolling that probably wouldn't have happened if someone had to take the time to register. Anyon posting is just asking for something bad to happen.
I just hope it stays this way. I mean I don't know any normal blog that allows someone to post with registering some where.
and really can't you at least keep unlogged in names? they seem to be like half the posters on many things.
ReplyDelete@Mojo
ReplyDeleteKeep in mind Seth said "for the time being" if he decides to keep this he'll announce it just like other changes. But right now you're jumping the gun like other people were a few hours ago with the whole YT snafu.
So I won't have to troll the trolls anymore?
ReplyDeleteThank goodness because I'm horrible at it
Hooray
ReplyDeleteProbably for the best anyway.
ReplyDeleteAww...my anononymonymity...so sad. Now I have to log in and stuff...and think about what I say?
ReplyDeleteWhat but madness can come of this?
An account on the internet makes you an elitist? WOOT! No more getting called a redneck hick! Im an elite!
ReplyDeleteAh, well. You finally forced my hand, Seth. I had to create a Blogger account. Perhaps this is for the best, or it won't matter in the least. I can't say it has any negative side effects...yet.
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDelete@Mojo
ReplyDeleteCan I quote you on that, anonymously of course? Or will that be a problem?
the fact that this is supported disgust me, have we really forgotten our roots?
ReplyDeletelulz
ReplyDeleteIt's nice to see that we won't get as many trolls now. It's a shame it had to come to this (i guess).
ReplyDeleteTo the people who are concerned that a Blogger account will show their real name: I have mine set to show "ActionScripter9109" even though it's linked to my real Google account. Your real name doesn't have to be front and center if you don't want it to.
ReplyDeleteAlso, for what it's worth, I think anon posting is fine. It's not that hard to ignore the immature comments.
I am okay with this. It's very hard to respond to a particular post and expect a response when the only identifier for the post is a default name shared by multiple posters.
ReplyDeleteAnd I hate quoting, feels redundant in most cases. <_<
Well, I guess I am Edward forever now. Maybe I can change that name, now that it has unfortunate twilight connections...
ReplyDeleteWorks for me!
ReplyDelete@Oleetar This. I always post as Anon becuase I'm shy.
ReplyDelete@Mojo
ReplyDeleteAnonymity had nothing to do with it. And besides, do you know how easy it is to make a blogger/google account? If people are that worried about, who knows what, they can just give false information when setting it up. It's not like anyone uses their REAL name as an account anyway. We're still anonymous, just with fake names instead of "anonymous".
I guess I'll have to dust off my old live journal account. My last entry there was ranting about the premature hate for the new Star Trek movie.
ReplyDeleteKinda sad that it had to come to this, but it was the right move. More counter-trolling was occurring than discussion.
ReplyDeleteAND BAM.
ReplyDelete@IkusaGT
ReplyDeletethat whole drama disappointed me greatly, I thought we were better then that.
I usually post as an anon, but given the uproar of the last two news posts, I can understand the decision. Perhaps it will be appropriate to undo it at some point, but for now, I can live with this, I guess.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I like this.
ReplyDeleteI come from kind of the opposite internet background to anonymous, in that the first forum I used a lot was a local community forum, where everyone knew who everyone was, and went to the same bars and clubs.
That meant that if you got too out of line, the person you're laughing at on the internet could easily find you and beat you up, which did actually happen to a few people, or at least would know who you were.
I think the very real possibility of getting beaten up, or at least called on your bullshit, is great training for internetiquette in general.
I like this decision
ReplyDeleteSorry Mojo my roots stem from Transformers Prime, not 4chan or the likes.
ReplyDeleteThis pleases me.
ReplyDeleteWow if i knew it was that easy i wouldve made one of these way earlier lmfao
ReplyDeleteHmm, quite. Indeed.
ReplyDeleteAt least I have an account now, so I'm happy with that.
Yay! thank you seth, the final nail in the coffin of the anon trolls. And I wouldn't mind if it stayed off. FOOOOOOOORRRREEEEEEEEEEEVEEEEEERRRRRR!
ReplyDeleteI was always posting as anon because of a bug with the cache. I'll test it again then.
ReplyDeleteSo No More Firsts? I Doubt it lol
ReplyDelete@Vyuun
ReplyDeleteI just get angry when stupid restrictions are imposed cause of Trolls, basically letting them win, as it shows they got under our skin.
I approve~! :D sometimes the anon posts can be pretty bad...
ReplyDeleteAs a viewer, not a poster, I say great improvement. Maybe now I'll see some meaningful stuff in the comments instead of the usual copypasta stuff you find on Youtube these days. :)
ReplyDelete@Vyuun
ReplyDeleteYou really don't understand the whole concept behind being anonymous, do you?
But now we might have to cultivate actual pseudo-identities with which to play amidst the surrealist backdrop of the internet...and be consistent and stuff.
ReplyDeleteShit's a Greek tragedy waiting to happen.
(Wait...Pseudolus was Roman...dang it)
@Mojo
ReplyDeleteAs I was too. I saw the headline and I was like oh snap. But then I remembered hasn't this happened twice before? And wouldn't hasbro take action as soon as the episodes were uploaded on youtube months ago? People got to think sometimes.
This is for the best. Big thanks seth
ReplyDeleteI approve of of this
ReplyDeleteThank you Seth, I think the vast majority of us would like this to be permanent.
ReplyDeleteDear Princess Celestia,
ReplyDeleteToday I learned that it is only polite to sign some sort of name, even if it is not your own.
Your faithful Student
Doctor Banana
I am inclined to agree with many others here and say anon posting should be disabled from now on... It most certainly won't stop paraspriting, but it sure as hell can mitigate a good portion of it, the lack of hating/trolling/paraspriting in this post should be evidence enough.
ReplyDeleteI'm liking this. Will keep drama down to a minimum.
ReplyDeleteYES!
ReplyDelete*sigh of relief*
Nice move Seth.
ReplyDeleteWe´ve learned a lot from this last event my fellow bronies, stick together.
*BROHOOF*
But do I chose my Google account or my LJ account? Decisions D:
ReplyDeletealways used an Anon account for its ease. just gonna have to bite the bullet there i guess
ReplyDelete>People implying bronies started because of anonymous
ReplyDelete>/b/ is just as active pony wise as /co/
>/b/ pony threads are 95% tripcodes
okay.png
Program (wait_until_the_whole_thing_blows_over.exe) successful. Proceeding to program (just_drop_it_the_battle_is_over.exe)
ReplyDelete@Razputin Hmm Doctor Banana...Do You Like Bananas? lol
ReplyDeleteWell,I suppose it's for the best,I don't really mind, only took me a few seconds to make an account.
ReplyDeleteI usually post as an anonpony, but I need to stop being this shy behind a screen anyway, and on the plus side I might be able to get a 'first' easier, hehe.
I see no problem here
ReplyDeleteWoah, what did I miss.
ReplyDeleteThis also will help eliminate the growing number of trolls commenting on EqD
ReplyDeleteTesting Testing. Lalala- LA
ReplyDelete@IkusaGT
ReplyDeleteit has indeed happened twice before.
and really if Hasbro was really serious they wouldn't just go after one channel ya know? and everytime it's just that ONE CHANNEL.
I think anon should be allowed back at a later date because names always bring the problem of reputation and people playing favorites with each other, which usually ends up with butthurt people being ignored or "not popular" in the community.
ReplyDeletejust sayin
Jeje, It's good to have a blogger account.
ReplyDeleteThis has led me to create an account in the off chance I actually have something productive to say. I approve.
ReplyDeletePros:
ReplyDelete-Easier to follow conversations.
-Hopefully cut down on some of the more senseless comments. (spam, troll, ect.)
-people who DO troll will be easier to single out.
Cons:
-Can't think of any yet.
So yeah.. Leave it this way.
Why U force me to sign in?
ReplyDeleteI have no problem with it, I'm just to lazy to sign in half the time.
This comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteYeah, permanently keeping it off would be the best decision.
ReplyDeleteI´ve got a profile image!
ReplyDeletesucks for anon, lol
ReplyDeleteThank Celestia, somepony actually LISTENED to what we were saying for all those months!
ReplyDelete@NinesTempest
ReplyDelete/b/ didn't get into Ponies until MONTHS after /co/.
Ponies got big on /b/ in Late Jan, they did on /co/ in late october, I got into the fandom in early November, trust me I know the development of the Brony fandom on 4chan.
I would leave is off Seth. Its the best thing to do. Brony's with anything to say would spend the 2 minuites to make an account to post here.
ReplyDeleteFinally!
ReplyDelete@Mojo
ReplyDeleteWith all do respect Mojo this is a private blog not a chan. Thank god for that. And any normal forum or blog requires people to post via an account. It makes everyone's like much easier. Anyon posting only invites trolling and flaming.
Also this fandom was born from MLP FiM and any outside influence from 4chan added to but didn't create the fandom. I'm sick of people giving creation of this fandom to some troll chan when the show did all the hard work. Bronys where born from MLP FiM. I bet most bronys on EQD haven't been on 4chan or simply weren't influenced from 4 chan.
@Mojo
ReplyDeleteWell that I can agree with. I just don't think this is a major restriction by any stretch of the imagination. Bronies who like the site and want to comment can make a quick and easy account, using whatever false name they want. And hopefully not as many trolls will want to put in the effort to make an account.
@pyritie
Okay, maybe it doesn't fit the dictionary definition of anonymity, but in my book, if I can't be identified in real life by whatever account I'm using, I'm still plenty anonymous. And correct me if I'm wrong, but wouldn't posted as anonymous still log the IP address you used?
I didn't realize I had a blogger....
ReplyDeleteThe best thing is no one will reply to any anon comment anymore.
ReplyDelete-> @anonymous
And nothing of value was lost! I've been meaning to start using a blogger name anyway. (Herp, typo)
ReplyDeleteSo, I guess the general consensus is...
ReplyDeleteYa dun good, Seth. Ya dun good.
This is a good action to take considering the current circumstances, but I'd also like to throw in my own note that not all anonymous comments are bad. This will cut down on the trolling, but it will also eliminate some legitimately good comments that some people would only feel comfortable posting anonymously, for whatever reason. (And no, not just out of laziness or not having anything beneficial to say.)
ReplyDeleteThis is not to say disabling anonymous comments is a bad thing in and of itself. It might be the best thing for the site overall. But it strongly affects what type of community the site will have, so it's worth thinking about it for a bit before making a final decision. (Not that a final decision really needs to be made; Seth could technically keep disabling and re-enabling anonymous comments at his leisure.)
Yeah after those silly annons with their spam I'm not surprised that annon comments gone down, just shows how desperate these guys are.
ReplyDeleteThis blog's the only reason I created this Blogger account, I was too shy of using my normal username for this blog, but now, I don't care what others think, I'm a brony and I'm proud of who I am.
-HeroInferno (formally Star Winged Brit)
Now if only i had goo...
ReplyDeleteWait
I think for the normal Blog entries Anons should be able to post for feedback and such!
ReplyDeleteWell, then I guess I'll be using this from now on..
ReplyDeleteLol good thing I have a Google Account
ReplyDeletedamn, Anonymous was taken
ReplyDeleteDunno why, but my default option here is a google account I created like 3 or 4 yrs ago.
ReplyDeleteI like this. Anon spamming was really getting out of hand in the comments. We should at least keep this until the whole trolling mess dies down.
ReplyDeleteI like where this is going.
ReplyDelete@Brevity
ReplyDeletelol
@MojoI think you shouldn't look at it as the difference between 'Winning and losing', because it isn't a game. Removal of anonymous posting isn't synonymous to censorship of any kind - it's just forcing you to put a name (not even your real name) beside what you say. If someone can't even do that, then I think they shouldn't be saying anything.
ReplyDeleteThis change does more than just avert trolls as well. Look at how many people in this comments section are surprised at how easy making an account is. Now they have a face they can put by their words. I can respond to these people as people rather than some amorphous entity. Anonymous posting is a blockade between real human communication that has plagued the internet since its inception.
Good call. Anons kinda bug me - if you've got something worthwhile to say, why not put a name to your voice?
ReplyDeleteOf course, I admit sometimes anonymity is useful, but too often idiots just use it as a shield to troll behind.
Yeah, please, just leave anon commenting off; this works SO much better.
ReplyDeleteO_o?
ReplyDeleteWhelp what did I walked into when I became a brony last weekend? But hey whateves, makes a community fell more Humble when you know who your really talking too.
Good move I think. Was thinking about registering anyway.
ReplyDelete@Luigi
ReplyDeleteActually, you just need to sign in once with the "stay signed in" checkbox checked. You'll still be able to do driveby commenting, we'll just know who you are now.
Between the Anonymous trolling, 4cHAN, and YouTube taking down MLP episodes, I'd say we have another war on our hands.
ReplyDeleteGOOD THING I AM A NAMEFAG ANON
ReplyDeletestill, that sucks for my fellow anons
Okay, let's try this Blogger account melarky.
ReplyDeleteYou know what...I am going to make several different accounts and have massive conversations in the comments, just because I can. And even with names no one will be able to tell the difference between a real account and one of my dummy accounts. This will be fun.
ReplyDeleteOoo ok I see why
ReplyDeleteYou could just disable it all along!?
ReplyDelete@Shaun Hegney
ReplyDeleteshows don't create fandoms, kiddo, websites and the people on them do. Did you discover MLP by yourself? Pretty much everyone here discovered it because they had it recommended to them, indirectly or not. Shows themselves don't do that.
Wow, I can't even count the amount of times that I've seen an Anon horde in some of the posts. Not to be disrespectful to some of those who used it, but quite a few of them were trolls. At least this will keep down the amount of hurtful comments.
ReplyDelete@boomerang503 Get the orbital friendship cannon ready.
ReplyDelete
