A group over on Deviant Art has vectorized the FiM comic con poster. At it's current resolution, it's a MASSIVE 18 feet wide, with plans to release a 30,000px version very soon.
Now where to go to get one of these printed out... I need to cover a wall with ponies.
You can find it here!

Hmm, it looks good.
ReplyDeletewell, we can see who is in the balloon very clearly now...it looks like two OC ponies
ReplyDeleteshit
yay
ReplyDeleteAnd we can now see the ponies in the balloon!
ReplyDeletedear god.
ReplyDeleteHoly crap.
ReplyDeleteWell this is good news.
ReplyDeleteIt's the little details that I love about the poster. It shows they're aware of the community as a whole.
ReplyDeleteLyra and Bonbon are standing together and looking at eachother rather than the 'audience'.
Colgate is showing off her teeth.
Colgate is standing next to Berry Punch.
Doctor Whooves was included.
The flower trio (Roseluck, Daisy, Lily) are standing together.
And lest we forget, Derpy's eyes are derped.
I thought there was a pony in aviators in the balloon? needless to say though, this is amazing :D
ReplyDelete@Namefag Anon
ReplyDeleteWell, that we could have guessed from the start...all the other characters are in the poster :D
Downloading the whole picture nearly crashed my computer.
ReplyDeleteSeems like someone had some artistic freedom with the guys on the balloon.
ReplyDeleteI can't fathom how powerful this community is when it comes to teamwork. Good job guys.
ReplyDeleteIt crashed Irfanview. Damn.
ReplyDeleteOC ponies in the balloon?
ReplyDeletestills way better than the crocodile
I can't fuckin' view it.
ReplyDeleteSOmeone better capture the 2 guys on the balloon , because i can't open the file.
I need to get this printed on a vinyl...
ReplyDeleteHere is a close up of the OC Balloon Ponies:

These are the two OC ponies in the ballon for those who have trouble opening the file:

Great. Now I need an 18 foot wall.
ReplyDeleteFucking ponies are going to bankrupt me........
A little bit put off that this guy stuck his own OC ponies in the balloon. Seems kinda a dick move after all the fuss that was made out of them.
ReplyDelete@Namefag Anon Are they really OC ponies if they're in an official document? Maybe a better term would be "Unknown," or maybe even "Spoiler" ponies.
ReplyDeleteIf you want the real poster you can get them on ebay for 20 bucks (including shipping).
ReplyDelete@Darkhawk1
ReplyDeleteThey are OC ponies in this image, namely Moongaze and CrimsonValor. In the original image there was one background pony and one unknown (the artist didn't tell)
Who's in the balloon?
ReplyDelete( Zoom in towards the balloon. Theres a red pony with a white mane, and a black unicorn with a black and white mane.)
Wait a minute! The only reason to blow up the poster this large would be to see the ponies in the balloon! But this guy goes and sticks his own characters in it?!
ReplyDeleteI call shenanigans!
@Anonymous
ReplyDeleteNever mind that.
Their first sentence, "A full 10,800 pixels on the vertical side." and immediate done to death, "It's over 9,000" blah, blah through my head.
ReplyDeleteCool though, I have no wall to put it on at those dimensions.
@Altherix
ReplyDeleteActually 10'800 is 20% cooler than 9000 ;)
Can't even view it on deviant art. Jeez.
ReplyDeleteOk, this isn't a blown up image. They made it themselves and its just extremely accurate to the original poster. In the original poster the balloon ponies were simply too small to be seen under any circumstances, so he just put oc ponies in to fill the gap.
ReplyDeleteI thought it was this
ReplyDeletehttp://img.ponibooru.org/images/e4/e4045e79c1a2dfeb905b04b1141b6f68
In an unrelated note, I wonder how many of those 5,000 posters Hasbro sold at Comic Con. I'm hoping they sold a whole bunch!
ReplyDeleteI was kinda hoping, at least the one on the left side in the balloon would not be an OC pony, since the original artist (Nayuki) already said it was Cherry
ReplyDeletehttp://mlp.wikia.com/index.php?title=List_of_ponies/Season_one/Earth_ponies&image=Cherry_id-png
I thought the black pony in the balloon was Nyx at first.
ReplyDeleteAH TOO BIG TO HANDLE
ReplyDeleteOC ponies in the ballon?
ReplyDeleteNo thanks.
Deleted.
MUAHAHAH. Now I can print this out on the large format printer at work.
ReplyDeleteSpeaking of Comic-Con posters, if anyone is interested I still have 6 of those posters for sale.
ReplyDelete@Acriaos
ReplyDeleteMind = Blown
Luna's outline looks very dark, and thus out of place...
ReplyDeleteIt kind throws off the whole thing to me.
I don't recognise that pony above Big Macintosh, with the pink mane. Anyone know who she is?
ReplyDeleteAhem.
ReplyDeletehttp://i55.tinypic.com/24eqqh0.png
I SAW WHAT YOU DID SETH. y u take it down? Embarrassed?
Well...WATCH OUT HERE I CUM
Sweet merciful batman! Incredible!
ReplyDeleteyay flattershy is there!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeletei downloaded the 30,000 pixel version, 50 mb! that is the largest picture i've ever seen!
ReplyDeleteThis... is... so... AWESOME!
ReplyDeleteYay!
he put his OCs in the balloon. fuck this guy. he should at least put up a normal version.
ReplyDelete@AnonymousIt's impossible to tell who's in the balloon to begin with, though.
ReplyDeleteI don't approve of his actions either.
SO AWESOME /)*3*(\ !!!
ReplyDeletedude... almost froze my old computer with it's coolness and high pixel density.
ReplyDeleteOh!
ReplyDelete*Download*
*Open up*
*Zoom into hot air balloon*
*Deletes*
This has to be some sick troll. I am disappoint.
Dear CrimsonValor and co,
ReplyDeleteStop being such pretentious jerks.
Love,
A Disgruntled Fan.
My browser froze trying to open it... ._. TIME TO TRY AGAIN! lmao
ReplyDeleteAnd then the comments were flooded by a bunch of morons who think that vectoring an image works like the Enhance Button on CSI.
ReplyDelete@TenchiFreak5
ReplyDeletePlease take a look at http://www.equestriadaily.com/2011/07/speculations-and-stuff.html
Then the actual picture on this post, totally different.
I think I know what I will do with money that I didn't spent on buying SDCC MLP poster on e-bay ;)
ReplyDeleteSeth needs to work on his grammar.
ReplyDeleteA similar project is being done on Ponychan, vectoring that entire poster.
ReplyDeleteI just love how it eats 1,5 gig ram in photoshop. By itself...
ReplyDelete@TenchiFreak5
ReplyDeleteSeriously. Celestia forbid someone insert their OCs into something they spent a fuck-ton of their own time on.
When you zoom in, Celestia is... Pink?
ReplyDeleteCrashed my computer xD. Bluescreen and everything
ReplyDelete@Anonymous
ReplyDeleteIt runs using 2gig of mine O.o
@Anonymous
ReplyDelete...your point being? The image here is a complete fan made recreation.
@Chester the Cynical Grownup
ReplyDeleteI'm just saying, it WOULD HAVE BEEN NICE if they did the two ponies in the hot air balloon correctly, rather than inserting some OC bullshit.
Too bad this was ruined by the hideous monsters in the balloon. I guess it could be cropped out though but that'd feel a bit wrong on the other hand.
ReplyDelete@Anonymous
ReplyDeleteSo what? It was impossible to tell who was in the balloon in the original poster.
You can't make a vector out of something when you don't know what the hell it is. So the solution was to either leave the balloon empty and be raged at, or they stick background Pony's in it and be raged at, or they make a massive guess about what was in it and potentially look like and be complimented until the guesses they made are proven wrong (at which point they would be raged at), or they stick OCs in it and hope that people are impressed with the fact that they spent two weeks working on the fucking poster instead of worrying about what was in the balloon in the original.
Damnit, now I need to find a big enough printer!
ReplyDelete@Lazy Luna
ReplyDeleteYes Celestia is a very slight hue of pink. Just not as pink as the toys or other merchandises picture her.
@Anonymous
ReplyDeleteYou are aware though, that the real image is, if anything, closer to this one?
http://img.ponibooru.org/images/e4/e4045e79c1a2dfeb905b04b1141b6f68
The only thing we know for sure is, that the one on the left is Cherry.
People rage way too much here about those OC ponies.
@Anonymous
ReplyDeleteAnd they would do it correctly how? By drawing random pink, white and brown blobs? You do realize the image you're referencing is yet another fan-guess at what the characters actually are, right?
THATS NOT THE POINT;
ReplyDeleteIf they did some actual research, (It took me 10 minutes to find out who they were) they could have put them in normally.
One of them was "Cherry"
http://img.ponibooru.org/images/e4/e4045e79c1a2dfeb905b04b1141b6f68
http://mlp.wikia.com/index.php?title=List_of_ponies/Season_one/Earth_ponies&image=Cherry_id-png
They could have at least included that one. As for the other, make a wild guess. Hell I'm sure there is a background pony that fits the description!
@Anonymous
ReplyDeleteHell, if you look at the link :
http://mlp.wikia.com/index.php?title=List_of_ponies/Season_one/Earth_ponies&image=Cherry_id-png
You can see a pony on the left, which could fit the description of: http://img.ponibooru.org/images/e4/e4045e79c1a2dfeb905b04b1141b6f68
God I hope this doesn't make the folks on ponychan quit workin on theirs. At least they ain't putting some shitty OC in the ballon.
ReplyDeleteThis is amazing. Completely amazing. XD Someone needs to make this a giant wall somewhere. It would be the Great Wall of Ponies.
ReplyDeleteI can't believe all the comments complaining about the OC ponies in the balloon, though. What else were they supposed to do? The balloon ponies are impossible to actually see in the original poster, so why NOT stick some OCs in there? It doesn't exactly hurt.
@Anonymous
ReplyDeleteNo. The point is that this fanbase has become stupidly butthurt over OCs, which is incredibly fucking ironic in regards to this piece of art specifically considering there are barely 12 characters on the poster who aren't basically OCs anyways.
I'm glad the artists chose to throw in some OC's. It's only fair to give yourself a shout out for putting so much effort into a project like this. I like canon as much as the next person but I'm totally Ok with the subtle way this was done, the balloon is a very small part of the picture and the occupants were not intended to be significant anyway.
ReplyDelete@TenchiFreak5
ReplyDeleteOh fucking hell.
I'm not going to screw this into your thick skull, am I?
Might as well give up now. There's no hope for you.
@Anonymous
ReplyDeleteOh god. I'm so offended by an Anon throwing around insults.
I suppose I better just go kill myself, because clearly I will never be able to defeat the infallible logic of an "Nuh uh!" response.
This got kinda annoying, so you know what? I opened photoshop and put the image from before into the 16k image. And there we go, for all the OC-haters here you can download the exact same picture as before in the same resolution, but with badly photoshopped non-OC-ponies in the balloon. You happy now?
ReplyDeletehttp://www.mediafire.com/?vuk16a7clamkrrd
@TenchiFreak5
ReplyDeleteWhatever dude, I never meant for the argument to go this far. I'm clearly expressing that OC ponies, in my eyes, wasn't the best choice. Everyone is entitled to an opinion and I respect yours.
I guess I'm sorry and I got a little carried away.
These are the best comments I've read. A war between those for OC and those against OC.
ReplyDeleteSeems like a discussion should be made about OC ponies, and if they should be posted here or not.
Just Sayain.jpg
@TenchiFreak5
ReplyDeletestfu nerd
I applaud the artists who worked on this. It's a very nice work.
ReplyDeleteThough, I'm a little aghast over the sheer size of this thing...
@dmtactical
ReplyDeleteIt felt like neat 'Easter Egg' on the behalf of the artists who worked on this.
I think they kinda deserve the self insert OCs considering the work they put into it also the original balloon characters were just blurry smudges anyways.
ReplyDeleteAwesome!
ReplyDeleteOh wait, OC ponies.
*delete*
Do shout when someone releases a proper version. And in an actual vector format, maybe?
@Falkenad I agree, though looking at the DA page there seem to be more than just those two people involved, it would've been nice if the whole team was in the balloon instead of only those two
ReplyDelete@Falkenad
ReplyDeletePutting your own characters in defeats the purpose of thing.
We put Moongaze and Crimson Valor in because absolutely nobody can agree on who actually is in there.
ReplyDeleteIf you can get an official answer' we'll be more than happy to replace our characters.
This is awesome!
ReplyDeleteI dunno why you'd complain though, its not like it cost anyone anything
@Crimson Valor
ReplyDeleteYou guise did a great job, really. I don't wanna seem ungrateful.
But, here is the possible ponies you require:
http://img.ponibooru.org/images/e4/e4045e79c1a2dfeb905b04b1141b6f68
@Crimson Valor
ReplyDeleteThe artist behind the poster already stated who they are.
As a graphic designer and print manager for a print shop, I'd just like to point out that this isn't a vector image. XD
ReplyDeleteI'm not saying it wasn't created using vector software (bet my left nipple it was) but was eventually rasterized for DA (and general) uploading.
Because it was rasterized, it got a max printing size. (Which is still ca-RAZY good rez, btw! Damn, all I ever get from clients is 10dpi net-grabbed images :P)
What sends shivers down my spine is the fact that somewhere on the artist' HDD lies a juicy and editible .cdr or .ai file still in its beautiful... beautiful vector glory.
And *that* file.... can be printed at ANY size. :D
With a small army of applicators, about 10 000 wide format printers running non-stop, a good helping of overlapping and planning and a good helping of luck, we could most likely make a print the size of Canada. We can do this... we have the technology...
@Anonymous
ReplyDeleteIt would be brilliant if they could release it in a proper vector format. Not just for the size (rasterizing to such a huge size seems a bit redundant), but also to make a few corrections.
Like Twilight's eye. And, you know, awful OC ponies in the balloon.
I'm disappointed in most of you, acting like spoiled children. I expected more out of the Brony community. TenchiFreak5 can't be any clearer. There is no way to know who's in the balloon. Vector artists aren't wizards. If they knew what was supposed to be there, they'd have put the correct ponies.
ReplyDeleteAlso, it's their work, they get to do whatever they want. You would've liked the balloon to stay empty? You would've preferred blurring something (what, I don't know)? Tough. Vector it yourself.
My only complaint other than Luna's outline is that the red OC pony looks out of place since the artist couldn't make it look like something pulled out of the show. But whatever. They did an amazing job everywhere else.
@Armando
ReplyDeleteThe obvious solution would have been to put in any two background ponies who weren't already included. I doubt many would be quite so negative about that.
@Armando
ReplyDeleteYes, I guess I did act like a prick, and I apologised.
You're right in saying they did an amazing job vectorising it, and it must have taken many long hours and for this, I am grateful.
For those who want the proper vector image...
ReplyDeleteWe can do that. I'll have to talk to Moongaze, but I don't see any reason no to share it.
I would like to correct as many of our mistakes as possible, though, first.
I spent about 3 hours going through it last night, but of course net everything goes perfectly. I've corrected a number of mistakes already this morning.
@Anonymous
We didn't get the memo. If anypony would like to tell us, official, who those characters are, I'll get right to it.
I'm surprised everyone's complaining about two ponies so far in the background that they compose less than 1% of the entire image.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, I want to say thank you to everyone who worked on this. It looks amazing, so thank you for releasing this for everyone to enjoy, especially those of us who were unable to make it to Comic Con :D
This picture represents a massive, massive amount of work and even if one doesn't like the ponies that were put in the balloon 99% of the thing is still frickin' awesome. If it's really that huge of an issue, just edit the balloon yourselves - copying and pasting isn't too hard to learn how to do and there are existing "more accurate" recreations of the speculative passengers out there that you can use as a source if you prefer.
ReplyDeleteI mean, really. What's the deal about OC ponies being so universally reviled lately, anyway? Most of the background ponies' fanon is just as made-up, the only difference is cosmetic. Are people really deleting this image just because there's a couple of teeny-tiny ponies way in the background that happen to have a palette of colours that hasn't been seen in the episodes?
@Anonymous Yes, that would've been the solution that leads to the least amount of flaming. The artists kind of asked for it by not taking that route. Regardless, that doesn't excuse the behavior of most of the posters here.
ReplyDeleteYes. I don't see anything wrong with balloon ponies. Perhaps the pony that we know was there could have been included, but it's really such a minor detail that in comparison to the shear spectacle of the work, is trivial.
ReplyDeleteWow. Amazing. Great job on this.
@Crimson Valor
ReplyDeleteI think it was in the EqD post about the original poster; I remember the one on the left was the pony-with-a-cherry-mark-I-can't-remember-the-name-of wearing flying goggles. I'm sure whoever the artist was would be happy to reveal the other if it saves you from stoning by the people who don't like OCs.
@Anonymous
ReplyDeleteSeriously. As soon as I've had breakfast, I'm redoing those characters.
Jeebus.
@Crimson Valor
ReplyDeleteYou know... a part of me doesn't want you to redo them... or give away the vectors so freely (Hell, my company only gives a client their own vectors on rare occasions).
Seriously dude... I love vector art, and this is truly epic in a grand scale.
It saddens me to think that so many don't know how long it takes to do vector art and how tricky and frustrating it can get at times, so yeah... eat some breakfast and take a break, you deserve it. XD
As for the OC ponies... I don't really see what the big issue is. Mind the pun, but don't look a gift horse in the mouth people! Hell, WoW artist hide their initials into character armor designs and stuff, so why can't Crimson Valor and his crew have this? In my opinion, he deserves to add the OC ponies after all that hard work... hell, I'd bet I'd do the same thing XD
Geeze, the image size is so huge that noone will be able to casually zoom in like that. If someone does make it into a wall-poster, you should be admiring the work done on the bulk of the characters and the work there.
ReplyDeleteWhy are there people going on like they were robbed I have no clue. It's not like those two were put front & center, replacing one of the mane 6 or hovering overhead or something.
Oh no.. I sense a rift in the Bronyverse... Lines were drawn... brony against brony...
ReplyDeleteYou gotta CARE! You gotta SHARE!
That's an amazing effort on that poster Crimson Valor. I don't have anything against OC characters in general, most are pretty cool, but in this case, at least one of the balloon riders was revealed by the original artist as Cherry with aviator hat/goggles and it's good to see you are willing to adjust it.
ReplyDelete@Crimson Valor Eh, leave 'em. Don't let a few loud-mouthed haters ruin your day. Remember: Giggle at the Griefers
ReplyDeleteIf you really are going to release the vector files (which would be super awesome) then anyone who actually cares can just edit them out and replace them with whatever they want. Maybe they'll even learn to appreciate your work when they see it's not so easy.
I can't open this without getting a blue screen of death!
ReplyDeleteI'll favourite it so I can open it on my new pc that I will buy soon, when I have the money... when I start saving.
I don't have money.
@Armando
ReplyDeleteThat would just inflame things further.
Oh man, why did I have to come across this when I'm sitting just down the hall from a large format printer? So tempting.
ReplyDeleteConfound these ponies, they drive me to consider misplacing a few mL of my employer's ink.
And hoo boy is this comment thread is a disaster. Really just embarrassing. I thought we were supposed to be better than this, bronies.
>Ugly OC placeholders
ReplyDeleteWhat the fuck man
@Gordon Freemane
ReplyDeletethis should do the trick
http://www.techfresh.net/wp-content/uploads/2007/11/hewlett_packard_huge_printer.JPG
@Anonymous
ReplyDeleteI believe BlackM3sh was using those color guides on dArt. The colors seem consistent with those.
As mentioned earlier here, Ponychan's /art/ board is working on their own version, but it's been derailed because some fuckhead posted this version there with a pic of Trollestia.
ReplyDeleteHere's the link:
http://www.ponychan.net/chan/art/res/27126.html
Wow, what's with all the OC hate?
ReplyDeleteThe artists clearly put a crapton of work into this, it's completely fair and reasonable for them to put their OCs into the balloon as an easter egg.
Also, Nayuki only identified one of the balloon ponies, and she still can't really be recreated because her pose/facial expression is still unknown.
Crimson Valor: I hope you keep the OC version available too.
When I go down the print shop to have this done in it's HUGE glorious vinyl print quality, I wouldn't want anypony else in that balloon than Moon and Crimson, because they're fucking awesome for coordinating the team that put this together.
ReplyDeleteAnd Imma put it on my huge wall where the size is right so that you can TELL who's on that balloon, like a bawss.
@Anonymous
ReplyDeleteDelicious milliliters. You know you want to. Strike the printer down and your ponies will be complete.
Jesus christ the polarization this work has created...
ReplyDelete@The Crook
ReplyDeleteNot everyone is as big on the fanon as everyone else; especially when the poster is ostensibly meant to be a group shot of all (or at least as many of) the characters in season 1. The OCs weren't characters in season 1, and that kinda ruins it, especially when it's something entirely avoidable.
Hello everyone, MoongazePonies here. I apologize about the use of OC characters. I'm saddened that that tiny Easter Egg seems to be the only thing most of you are focusing on. Please don't overlook the fact that we've spent the past two weeks working hard to make this for you all. The use of OC characters was simply for fun, not because we're full of ourselves or anything like that. They are stand-ins until we can come to an agreement on who should be in the balloon.
ReplyDeleteWe also will be posting more versions of the poster as we get the time. CrimsonValor and I are pretty busy with our actual jobs so we can't produce everything all at once and instead of raging nastily and endlessly you could always send us some constructive criticism on what we could do to improve the poster. We had many team members so of course there are going to be some discrepancies regarding color and linework. It's unavoidable. However, every thing you point out to us that can be fixed WILL be fixed if we can do anything about it, I assure you.
So please, try to understand the situation and help to get things corrected instead of posting hateful and unnecessary messages.
Also, to those that DO understand the situation and did their part to help explain to others why we did what we did, I thank you from the bottom of my heart. You few represented the true spirit of this fandom more than a lot of others have today.
ReplyDeleteWow, really? Look at all the hate over the two itty bitty OCs riding in the balloon. Are we really that far gone to trash hours upon hours of work just because the vector artists decided to put in a tiny little self-reference? It's LITERALLY 1% of the entire image (and I am not exaggerating, I actually measured it out)
ReplyDeleteI thought this community was better than this. You should all be ashamed of yourselves.
I'm sad to be a brony today.
Urk, the bronies who keep whining about OC ponies should grow up and stop being such special snowflakes.
ReplyDeleteObviously a lot of work was put into this, you should be grateful to the artists instead of bitching like entitled little brats.
Anyways, fantastic job on this! Even though my computer has to take a few deep breaths before it can load the whole thing. :P
In the actual photo LINK (http://img.ponibooru.org/images/e4/e4045e79c1a2dfeb905b04b1141b6f68)
ReplyDeleteThe two ponies in the balloon are Cherry (http://mlp.wikia.com/index.php?title=List_of_ponies/Season_one/Earth_ponies&image=Cherry_id-png) and Seafoam (http://mlp.wikia.com/wiki/List_of_ponies%2FSeason_one%2FUnicorn_ponies)
You know, the people who complained about the OCs were just a minority. In fact, there are about 12 comments who were against the OCs. ALL OF THEM ANONYMOUS. Seriously, not a single one poster here with the guts to display a name posted anything against those OCs. I don't mind anonymous posters, but to think, this thread here is a shitstorm because some anonymous posters were against something is silly.
ReplyDelete@Anonymous:
ReplyDeleteHow do you know it's not 'shopped?
@Chromadancer
ReplyDeleteIf it were an original work, I doubt anyone would care. But since it's a duplication of someone else's work, I can understand people being disappointed at a lack of accuracy, especially when people are looking forward to the vectors to get a chance at the poster they otherwise wouldn't had.
This comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteThe part of this community that so unjustly throws out hatred towards OC ponies reminds me of 4chan. No, you all are worse than 4chan. You embody everything that is wrong with this fandom and the world in general.
ReplyDelete@Lotharius Aran Wrenn
ReplyDeleteWhat's wrong with liking the show more than fan interpretations of the show?
Nice job!
ReplyDeleteAnd the OC ponies hate has got to stop. Think of Nyx and Little Pip... I am actually in awe of them. I cant draw ponies for my life..
@Acriaos
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately it's not just this particular board. Many people have been posting equally foul complaints on the DA page and other places where they actually have accounts so it's not just a couple people reposting.
To those that keep posting that image with Cherry and the other character, I do believe that is simply a fan-made what-if image. I do know that Cherry IS one of the characters in the balloon, but that still doesn't give me what I need to accurately recreate her as she is in the balloon.
We are working on getting a final answer to this balloon issue and hopefully it will be resolved soon.
@Anonymous
ReplyDeleteSo being able to enjoy the show and appreciate, or at the bare minimum tolerate, others' art are mutually exclusive acts? I don't see the logic. Probably because there is none. You aaren't "liking the show more" you're going out of your way to hate and persecute others for developing artwork.
OC ponies in my Official Poster?
ReplyDeleteCool. I see no problem with that.
Amazing work from the artists. This must've been a huge feat. The 30k wide image is a hefty 56MB.
@Anonymous
ReplyDeleteDude, half of the original poster is fanon. That's why everyone loved it so much in the first place.
Also, for those that were interested, we are planning on releasing the master file as well. We just wanted to get feedback from the fanbase to make final corrections before doing so. Obviously there is one particular thing that needs fixing. :P
ReplyDelete@Lotharius Aran Wrenn
ReplyDeleteIt's an official poster. Some people would simply prefer it to remain that way, rather than have other stuff inserted.
And seriously, calm down. Just because I don't like OCs doesn't mean I want to burn your house down.
@Moongaze
ReplyDeleteHey man, don't fix a damn thing. I like the look of the OC ponies.
@Anonymous
ReplyDeleteThe people who need to calm down are the people insulting the maker of this for their choice. And as was said there was no way to say for certain the details of the balloon anyways.
And if you don't like OC ponies clearly you don't like the majority of ponies included in the poster anyways right? All names/personalities/etc. of characters such as Derpy, Dr. Whooves, Lyra, Bonbon, etc. are fan made so such things are clearly abominations to the original idea of the show.
This follows the logic of pretty much all the OC haters on here anyways.
@Moongaze
ReplyDeleteFoul comments on DA? I counted 5 people who didn't approve of the OCs out of 2 pages of comments mostly full of praise. Seriously, don't let this get you down :)
@Acriaos
ReplyDeleteI suppose you're right. I just wasn't expecting this much anger over something so trivial. I'm not going to use an image that was made by the people over on Ponychan; those are their drawings and I am not going to steal their artwork for our own project. I don't know why the people posting that image think it's legit, because it isn't. I've already confirmed this with someone from the show's team.
@Acriaos
ReplyDeleteAgreed. Anyone worth listening to either likes or is neutral to OCs. If nothing else they give more variety to the wonderful world of Equestria. Keep them. Allow me to re-emphasize the praise and say your work is wholly appreciated and there is no reason to take out the wonderful OCs. Hell, add more if you like, there ARE plenty of amazing OCs.
@Acriaos
ReplyDeleteYeah, I just needed to calm down...
Still, it's not nice seeing people being so rude about something we put so much work into...
But thankfully those people are in the minority.
@Lotharius Aran Wrenn
ReplyDeleteHowever you choose to interpret them, all the other characters are already part of the show. OCs aren't.
@Moongaze
You should have seen it when the ponychan group stuck Nyx in their version of the poster. Some people just don't like OCs; it's not new, or unique to this fandom.
@Crimson Valor
ReplyDeleteThat is an unfortunate fact of lifee. There will always be people who hate something purely for the sake of hatred. Make no mistake the work you put in this turned it into something amazing. Truly it is the fans, people like you, that make the show from something good into something great.
So, yeah, for those complainers:
ReplyDeleteWe've received word from one of the show's storyboarders; one of the two characters placed in hte balloon is an unreleased Season 2 character, and thus cannot be publicly revealed. So there you are. Official answer is:
"Cherry and another pony who we can't reveal."
@Anonymous
ReplyDeleteSo nothing that is a part of the show is good then? Let's ban all fan made music, stories, art, etc. since they aren't a part of the show.
I see no logical reason for someone to dislike OCs other than a hatred of art in general.
@Lotharius Aran Wrenn
ReplyDeletetypo. *nothing that ISN'T -> my first sentence.
@Anonymous
ReplyDeleteOh, I did see! I've been following their project the whole time and I'm eager to see their final result. I'm sorry that they took our project so negatively. Technically I started before their thread was even made and I approached CrimsonValor shortly afterward to help me out. I wasn't even aware of Ponychan's efforts until Crimson and I were well on our way and I didn't want to quit the project simply because other people were doing the same thing. I rarely do projects this large and collaborating on this level was a new experience for me and it was fantastic!
We will keep the version with our OCs in the account gallery but we've already started work on the characters that are going in the basket on the new version, as well as correcting any errors people have pointed out.
I hope that the new poster will please those that were angered by our OC use and make everyone happy.
@Lotharius Aran Wrenn
ReplyDeleteWhy do you keep making these leaps of logic to assume that because I dislike one thing, I must hate everything?
@Anonymous
ReplyDeleteThere are no leaps of logic in my posts. I am simply attempting to follow your logic.
You say you don't like OC ponies with the only visible reason being "they aren't a part of the show".
Nothing else fan-made is a part of the show.
Ergo, you don't like anything fan-made.
How is an OC pony any different than any other work of art the community works so hard on?
@The Crook I dont, but it seems more real than this one. Also I also read somewhere that one of the artists confirmed Cherry was in the Balloon.
ReplyDelete@Lotharius Aran Wrenn
ReplyDeleteNo, the point I was making was that fan-made characters don't belong in a poster otherwise dedicated to official characters. And by 'official' I mean 'have actually appeared in the show'. Make up whatever backstory you want for them, but they've already appeared. Whereas OC characters haven't. And as such, they stand out like a sore thumb.
I don't like drinking coffee. That doesn't instantly mean I think everyone involved in the coffee industry should be shot.
@Anonymous
ReplyDeleteYes, confirmed as Cherry.
It's also been confirmed that the other character is an unreleased Season 2 pony, therefore we're not going to be told anything about him or her.
@Anonymous
ReplyDeleteThis isn't a poster dedicated to official characters. This is a very well done artists' rendition of a similar poster that was made by someone else. The artists can add whatever they want to it and it is perfectly fine. There is no reason to criticize artists for making something in the way they wish. Someone could make a version of the Bridle-maids billboard with OCs. It would be totally fine because they chose to do it and their choice of OCs would in no way diminish the attraction or value of the art. Those who didn't like it could merely not look at it and walk away rather than make blatantly rude comments.
That is my point. And there is no denial that pretty much all the people who commented on dislike for OCs did so in a ridiculously rude manner.
@Lotharius Aran Wrenn
ReplyDeleteThe original poster was, though.
So, you wouldn't mind at all if someone took something you made, say a fanfiction, and inserted themselves into it with no thought to the original intention?
the fact that they hid two OC ponies or possibly ponies from next season in the backround is sweet! Its little thing like this that re cool. why are so many bronies pissy lately? geeez
ReplyDelete@Crimson Valor
ReplyDeleteJust to clarify for earlier, I thought that when people said "OC ponies" I thought they meant ponies soon to be shown in Season two.
Now that that is out of the way, I defend your right to put a little easter egg in your work. However, if you ask me, I would have preferred something more, 'tasteful'? Perhaps replacing the hub logo with your signatures? Anyway, I would have preferred the 'Cherry and Seafoam' over the OC ponies, or perhaps an actual blurred picture, as a sort of in-joke for the bronies.
But you guys definitely don't deserve all this hatred.
@Anonymous
ReplyDeleteThis isn't the original poster.
And now, I wouldn't. I would encourage it actually. Their version could be just as good as what I made. Maybe even better. Now it is merely a different piece of art, however slight. The original intention only applies to the original piece. People can apply whatever intention to whatever they want. That is the essence of art and creativity and I wholly support the idea of people adding or modifying things in ways that they like for such purpose.
@Lotharius Aran Wrenn
ReplyDeleteTypo, now = no in the second sentence.

ReplyDeleteHey guys, I just put the 30,000x20,000 version on zoom.it for easier viewing.
ReplyDeletehttp://zoom.it/KZ9V
Leave it the way it is. Do not change it. The OC's are just little dots, and let them be a token for your hard work. If people would rather have the little bitty blurs in the balloon, let them pay 20$ for it on ebay (I did I love it!!!) I'd love to applaud you for this wonderful work!
ReplyDeleteCherry and another character I've selected based on the very basic description I was given of the other character from the show artist are both being added in place of the OCs.
ReplyDeleteWe'll be providing two versions; one with Cherry and another BG pony, and one with our OCs.
ReplyDeleteNeat wallpaper'd.
ReplyDeleteI am glad to hear the originals will still be up. I already have both versions of the original downloaded so those will be the ones I keep. I am sure the OC ponies look better anyways =P
ReplyDeleteLet's play "find Derpy Hooves"!
ReplyDeleteAdding to the thanks for making an *awesome* image. Forget the haters.
ReplyDeleteWow, so Crimson Valor and other artists spend weeks on making this and your critize them for adding a 'sig' to it? They couldn't vector something that small.
ReplyDeleteSheesh some ponies are ungrateful.
Thanks thrawny for the poster :D!
First of all, many thanks to the artists who are doing this! While I think the vitriol displayed in the comments against the OC's is silly, I think the general point is a decent one. I'm fine with OCs in general principles - if people want to make them, fair enough, whatever floats their boat. But they don't really fit in something like this as it's meant to be a representation of official artwork. I'm not going to burn anyone at the stake for it, I'd just appreciate a version that tries its best to replicate the original, rather than puts something new in for the sake of it. And by the sounds of it, they're doing that, which makes me happy!
ReplyDeleteSo yeah, not everyone who doesn't like OCs in this context is a hateful bigot, jsyk~
I would love to get my hands on one of those posters, although it might look a tad out of place next to my Inglourious Basterds / Scarface / GM Performance Parts LSX454R posters and Hoosier Tires racing banner...
ReplyDeletewoohoo! and here i was thinking i was going to have to have a vector of this commissioned.
ReplyDeletethanks to the artists for doing this, i truly appreciate it.
Vectored Comic-Con Poster, say hello to my HP DesignJet 755CM :D
@Devolution
ReplyDeleteHey, if you want to, we're more than willing to accept payment. :P
Crimson Valor -
ReplyDeleteI don't mind the OC ponies (they look really cool), but I hope you keep the original too. :D
What has science done!? D:
ReplyDelete@Anonymous
ReplyDeleteYes, we will be releasing the canon characters version in a few days. Everyone involved is pretty worn out, so we're taking the time to rest up.
It's...
ReplyDeleteNice.
Wow! Totally amazing! I admit I immediately gravitated to the 16344x10800 pixel version and looked to see how you solved the 'Rose with goggles' and 'mystery companion with hat' dilema. ^_^ It was the chief theme of discussion when the poster first appeared. Irfanview creaks under the strain of enlarging past 100% for the 22 MB version, so I think I'll not try to open the 50 MB RAR... LOL!
ReplyDeleteIf you swap out the OC's from the balloon, maybe you could put them somewhere else in the background? I like the idea of your OC's hanging out in the poster. The background is very pale pastel, but I think the hilltop behind the Hydra would do nicely. There's also another dark woodlot to the left of that hill top, room for more of the contributing OC's?
Amazing job!
Big work... ruined by OCs for me. Will be waiting the version with BG ponies in the balloon.
ReplyDeleteYou people are ridiculously immature. I'd like to see you try to do this, then you can complain to the artists about some damn insignificant place-holders. You can barely see it on any resolution, anyway, and unless you look hard at it, there's no reason to get so worked up.
ReplyDeleteJeebus.
Having a great time toggling back and forth from the Hasbro upload and the vectorized version. 8^D I'd noticed that Applejack was a darker tone in the vectorized poster, so I opened both versions in Irfanview so I could toggle back and forth. Parasprite grew an extra leg! Zecora's cutie mark shrank, extra chimney in Ponyville, I finally see the diff in Twilight's eyes, Dash's eyes shrank, cockatrice grew! And more. ^_^
ReplyDeleteOh, and I meant 'Cherry in goggles', not Rose. Can't keep my background ponies straight.
Can't stop toggling! Rarity lost three eyelashes. Fluttershy looks so much nicer in the vectorized version and Celestia is extra sparkly. I think somepony has a soft spot for Celestia. 8^D Most ponies do.
ReplyDelete(Must stop spamming EqD.)

ReplyDeleteJust sayin'... That's the way I've got some posters for my wall :D
One is cherry, isn't the other one the pony taking pictures in Green Isn't Your Color?
ReplyDelete@Anonymous
ReplyDeleteAbout the twelfth time I'm saying this >_>
One of the balloon's occupants is Cherry (confirmed by member of the show's production team), and the other is a Season 2 character who cannot be revealed for legal reasons (also confirmed by a member of the show's production)
I don't suppose anyone could resize this to about 1/4 of what it is now... I'd like a file I could manage, but it just wont open in any of my image editors because it's too huge. This would be the perfect wallpaper for my computer, but it's toooo biiiig
ReplyDeleteSeth really needs to update the post with Crimson Valor's comments.
ReplyDeleteUm there will be no version without the oc guys.
ReplyDeleteThey worked very herd on this. You didn't pay for it. You can whine about them inserting their ponysonas into it when they've been working on this almost since the poster originally came out.
ReplyDeleteThey deserve some recognition. Its hard to vector pixelated blobs in the first place.
^can't*
ReplyDeleteThank you very much for putting the immense amount of time and effort into this.
ReplyDeleteI was unable to get a poster myself, but this makes up for it in the most awesome of ways.
People may not like the OC ponies but, meh not everyone can be happy.
I got excited and zoomed in on the balloon.
ReplyDeleteI was disappoint because of the shitty OCs.
For those of you without supercomputers with which to view the poster, I give you:

@Anonymous
ReplyDeleteAre you just trying to stir shit up now? They already said they'd make a version without the OCs. Try reading.
This project's team might've gotten more goodwill for their self-inserts had they the class not to go trolling the ponychan's similar project. Not very brony of you. Between that stunt and having to alter the original to include your fursonas, your egos must just be too big to keep restrained.
