I know, really. we've gone over 20 mil and we're only just NOW getting a phantom of the opera crossover?
ReplyDeleteCommunity. I am dissapoint.
A crossover with a book/musical, that's new. If there are going to be more of these things can we have a Les Misérables crossover with the cast rebelling against Celestia?
ReplyDeleteI literally almost had a fangirl moment.
ReplyDeleteAnd I'm a 19 year old dude.
I seriously considered doing this myself.
ReplyDeletehrrrm...i dont know it seems boring :\
ReplyDeleteim not much of a fan on opera, musicals, or anything theater for that matter, ill see if i can enjoy this
Oh dear... dear dear Fluttershy, how I feel for you. Poor filly, about to be subjected to the horrible genius that is Erik.
ReplyDeleteI can't wait! Must read.
Hmm I noticed that Fluttershy is the main character...
ReplyDelete*Automatically gives 5 stars*
Well, well, color me curious. Pony of the Opera, eh?
ReplyDeleteIs it stagehands or stagehoofs? Try to be consistent my friend. Not a bad start overall though. Bring me more.
ReplyDeletePriiiiima Don-na, first pony of the stage... You're just as rude
ReplyDeleteand highly strung
as Car-lot-taaa! /music
(Good character capture)
Fair warning: I'm probably going to keep doing stuff like this in most of my future comments. :D
We need ponyfied versions of the songs. I will sing them until I can't talk anymore.
ReplyDelete@tinwhistle I've got me a piano book with the stage songs and I'm in a musical mood today, for some reason. Let me take a crack at a couple.
ReplyDeleteIn sleep he sang to me
ReplyDeleteIn dreams he came
That voice which calls to me
And speaks my name
And do I dream again? For now I find
The Pony of the Opera is there
Inside my mind
(Eh, too easy...)
Y'know what? We're not far enough in yet for me to mess with songs like Angel of Music or All I Ask of You. Not enough context to know what to change and how.
ReplyDeleteMasquerade, paper faces on parade
ReplyDeleteMasquerade, hide your face so the world will never find you
M. every mane a different shade
M. turn around there’s another mask behind you
Flank of mauve, splash of puce, foal and king, ghoul and goose, green and black
Sun and Moon, trace of rouge, face of beast
Faces, take your turn
Take a ride on the carousel in an un-pony race
Eye of gold, wither blue, True is false, who is who?
Curl of lip, swirl of gown, ace of heart, face of clown
Faces
(These songs don't pony-fy well in my hands...)
Awesome! I can't believe this didn't happen sooner. You did an excellent job with Prima Donna, and I can't wait to see what the Phantom is like!
ReplyDeleteWell Well Well... color me intrigued... :)
ReplyDeleteI really like what you've got so far... it moves fast but it's been pretty fun :D can't wait to see what the phantom is like
Do continue!
Oh. Has anyone thought of doing WICKED, but with Celestia and Luna?
ReplyDelete@C. Theron Vulpin
ReplyDeleteWups. Corrected that. Silly Miyajima, ponies don't have hands.
To be honest, the hardest (and probably most entertaining) thing about writing for ponies is trying to come up with equestrian versions of our common day-to-day phrases.
@C. Theron Vulpin
ReplyDeleteYou're doing great!
Fluttershy is no Christine Daae, that's for sure. Not yet at least.
ReplyDeleteMethinks O.G. will need to work more on her confidence than her singing, but how's he gonna do that?
@MusicallyCassie
ReplyDeleteI assume you mean the musical version?
I'd accept that challenge, but I've got enough on plate at the moment.
Music time then... I'll do a proper Prima Donna alteration this time. Hang tight.
ReplyDeletePrima Donna, first pony of the stage,
ReplyDeleteYour devotees are on their knees to implore you
Can you trot off when they’re shouting you name?
Think of how they all adore you
Prima Donna, enchant us once again
Think of your muse, and of the queues round the theater.
Can you deny us the triumph in store?
Sing Prima Donna once more.
[middle part eludes alteration currently]
Prima Donna, the world is at your feet,
Equestria waits, and how it hates to be cheated
Light up the stage with that age-old rapport
Sing Prima Donna once more!
only 18 people starring this and only 24 comments?!!
ReplyDeleteBronies, I am dissapoint.
This is an excellent story. I eagerly await the next chapter!
Also, I shoulda guessed Octavia would show up, seeing the setting and all, lol.
Had to reread the dialogue with Octavia so I could hear it in Octavia's voice (YES, SHE HAS A VOICE)
ReplyDeleteanyway, time for me to
CONFOUND THOSE CLIFFHANGERS! THEY DRIVE ME TO RAGE!!!
Confound them.... *hickup*
You have me at an edge, making me want to watch POTO again, and maybe even find another copy of the novel!
ReplyDeleteGrrr.... Borders, why'd you have to go out of business now?
Interesting, to say the least. I was never really a fan of PotO, however, I'm still surprised this hadn't happened sooner. Good job, all the same, and I look forward to more.
ReplyDelete-Joe
@Anonymous
ReplyDeleteIndeed, and actually, I originally planned the story to be about Octavia, and more of a 'Phantom of the Concert' rather than opera, but then I had a flash of inspiration and changed the main characters to Fluttershy and Rarity. Still, I felt I had to put Octavia in somewhere.
I can't wait to see the phantom! I wonder who its gunna b, spike? Celestia? Who ever it is, I'm sure you won't disappoint.
ReplyDelete(This comment has nothing to do with this fanfic but is related to gremlins 1 and 2)
ReplyDeleteBrony community hasn't made a fanfic of gremlins or gremlins 2?
BRONYS I AM DISSAPOINT
I've been listening to PotO my entire life. I'm not feeling the awesome hypnotic power of the Phantom dragging Fluttershy away right now. I'm certain that you have a plan and I'm terrifically excited about future installments. C'mon and bring the musical heat for us!
ReplyDeleteFINALLY! -tries not to squeal and yell in fangirl gibberish- Thank Celestia!
ReplyDelete@Anonymous
ReplyDeleteErm... Swarm of the century? ¬.¬
As a musician (yea, I've performed "Phantom," and 'twas verily awesome in my high school sophomore year and my second year of playing trombone in concert band), all I can say is...
ReplyDeleteMY GOD. THIS IS AMAZING. 50/5 STARS LOVE.
MORE OF THIS.
Just a note, if somepony else hasn't seen it, you need to change this -> 'She guessed he was maybe half a hand shorter than Big Mac, but of a similar build.'
ReplyDeleteShouldn't it be half a hoof, not hand? Just trying to help! (If I'm not a pre-reader for a story, I try to ignore stuff like this, but it just caught my eye, so...)
I'm beginning to wonder how the story is going to differ, as the new Matron, and not a stallion that could conflict with the O.G. This is DEFINITELY a story I shall continue to keep reading!
I give this 6/5 stars! Why six? Because you're trying to do a VERY well-known and loved cross-over, and you're nailing it!
@Nightsong
ReplyDeleteI pondered changing it to half a hoof, but a 'hand' is a unit of measurement for the height of a horse, and I've seen it used in other fanfics for the same reason.
... Mildly disappointed to see it's fallen to 4.8 now that Seth's pointed it out. xD
Silly Seth, for not understanding how awesome the Phantom of the Opera is...
ReplyDeleteI was going to perform it at my University. Unfortunately, the pit was cut before we could perform. *sigh* and the clarinet part was just fabulous. It was quite a disappointment.
Worth noting that it gets better and better with each chapter.
ReplyDeleteAh, literature at it's finest! The story's witty, well written and in character, the use of the cannon tiny details that required a small interpretation fascinated me. I especially adored that you made full use of expressions amazed me, the tiny sets of actions in the story haven't ceased to amaze me, but who am I to be surprised? One of the finest animations fused with one of the finest literatures is sure to bring out nothing but greatness! I find it surprising that Seth was surprised by the vote this story had received and that it's not a 6 star story, although I ought to believe that that's because it's still unfinished. Isn't it, Seth?
ReplyDeleteOne of the finest fanfictions I say.
P.s. Why is it that I am unable to rate this story?
@Wolf
ReplyDeletePlease ignore the last part of this post, it seems I just had to refresh this page.
Excellent job. Its been added to my now extremely long list of fics i eagerly await an update for.
ReplyDelete5/5.
Well Miyajima, I applaud you on taking a classic and making it your own. I know we're only done with one act so far, but what you've done with it is masterful. I never would've imagined PoTO working without a Raul, but you seem to have divided that role between Rarity and Angel without delving into shipping and made it work!
ReplyDeleteWhile I've always felt sympathy for the Phantom, I see your O.G. as far more pleasant than any incarnation of Erik I'm familiar with. That does make me wonder why he's felt obliged to hide himself in the shadows; is it simply due to his face, or is there some aspect of his character we have yet to see?
I eagerly await Act II.
I really love phantom of the opera, and I feel this is done very well.
ReplyDeleteMaking the spray bottle poison joke was brilliant. I love this crossover.
ReplyDeleteThis was brilliantly done, and don't feel too pressured by the comments when completing this fic.
The GREAT and POWERFUL Trevor urges Miyajima to keep up the awesome work! While one has only seen the new version, one is going to see this story through, and was actually HOPING that it would deviate from the story at least some, so that way there will still be a sense of wonder. (Meaning wondering what's going to happen next, that is.)
ReplyDeleteThe GREAT and POWERFUL Trevor tips his hat to you, and rates this 5/5 stars!
This Community boggles the mind on a daily basis. I now finding myself reading a crossover with PHANTOM OF THE OPERA! and liking it. With Crossovers such as This and Fallout Equestria I wonder if their is ANYTHING that Ponies would not mesh with like a glove?
ReplyDeleteLoving the story so far...my favorite moment so far is Rainbow Dash at the end of the Intermezzo.
ReplyDeleteDitzy Doo refusing Muffins?! IMPOSSIBLE!! WHO IS THIS POD PONY AND WHAT HAS SHE DONE WITH POOR DITZY?!!
ReplyDeleteBut seriously, you don't know just what gold of a fanfic you have on your hands. Excellent work! :D
Oh... so impatient.
ReplyDeleteThe main 6 is going to be at the opera house during Masquerade!
What break?
ReplyDeleteMust be patient... Dignity... Always Dignity... The GREAT and POWERFUL Trevor ALWAYS has dignity... Must... Wait for... Epiness... *Passes out*
ReplyDeleteSeriously though, thanks! I can and can't wait for the new chapter/segment! 8D
Fantastic work so far, I love how you've adapted this classic story so far. I can't wait to read the next part!
ReplyDeletethis story has a bit of manehattan AJ big plus
ReplyDeletealso it's soo awesome *insert duckface*
@mystearica
ReplyDeleteI know, right? It's just SO AWESOME!!! *adds his duckface to your duckface*
@Shingo Oh, I can give you that.
ReplyDeleteI am a *huge* Phan (even more so than a Brony) and I think it would be pretty much awesome if they could get the current UK/one of the US Phantoms (John Owen-Jones, Hugh Panaro, or Anthony Crivello) to do a singing voice in MLP: FIM.
ReplyDeleteMy favrate Play/Opera ponyfied, WITH FLUTTERSHY!!!!
ReplyDeleteI... MUST... READ!
This is the first fan-fiction of MLP I have ever read and I am absolutely loving it. I've only just finished the Overture but... wow! You've really managed to capture the ponies' character and the writing flows beautifully.
