No whimsical side story for this today. I honestly am having trouble figuring out what exactly this is for.
As far as I can tell, it's another section of the Facebook page that's supposed to act as a forum of some kind, but it looks like a regular Wall to me. At the top of the page there's a video called The Making of Season One, which is the same video we posted yesterday. The page invites fans to add artwork and stories to the forum wall.
Seeing that made me pretty excited. This seems to be where Hasbro plans to release special stuff like this on a regular basis. How long do you think till we get Season Two stuff?

GOD TOOK YOU LONG ENOUGH TO POST IT
ReplyDeleteYOU... YOU... DOUBLE PONY
i dont know, looks to me like they're trying to compete w/ Equestria Daily and Ponychan :(
ReplyDeleteFIRST- FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU
ReplyDeleteinb4first?
ReplyDeletewow... do they realize what they're in for?
ReplyDeleteAlso, I get a security warning going to that page.
I'm glad I'm not the only one completely confused by that. I went there and thought "Oh wow! I can post art to the sort-of official MLP board...uh, thing! But as far as I can tell, it's just part of their regular old Facebook page. Is this an announcement for a website to come? Some kind of addendum to their FB page? Or maybe just another fiendish plot by Trollestia?
ReplyDeleteUhhh.. Cool?
ReplyDelete@Anonymous
ReplyDeletethey probably want it to be more... kid safe. probably will try to moderate posts to keep it from being TOO... suggestive.
It's probably supposed to be for both the bronies and the target audience.
I Have a theory...
ReplyDeleteThey might release those 2 episodes which they kept in their safe, ye know the ''24 or 26 episodes for season 2'' subject which Daniel kept trolling us, apparently they made 2 episodes for season 2 while season 1 was still airing, and they might release that on the...
27Th Of July...
Then again i don't even remember where the crap i've heard that rumour from...
But 27Of July is the estimated date in which they could release an actual full episode from season 2 for us
Finally a priper forum. Far be it for Equestria Daily to ever get a forun, the three admins jnow that if there was one here, then they wouod be out of work because they'd be beaten to posting news.
ReplyDeleteWEEEEE!!
ReplyDeleteNAYC!
ReplyDeleteMust...resist... to post... Rule34... to... forum...
ReplyDeleteoh! watch how any piece of art or fiction posted on there requires the poster to have made it themselves, and that they must agree not to sue if something similar to their stuff crops up in the show at some point.
ReplyDeletelol, not likely, but knowing this fandom and it's way with background characters, I can totally understand why they'd want to do that.
@Anonymous 1:57
ReplyDeleteIs that even a language?
I'm not sure what this is for really. Maybe Hasbro is trying to get at least some sort of control over how pony stuff is shown on the internet. Hell, this website is more informative than most of the official channels when it comes to news. Like you said, You put up the behind the scenes video a day before them. Maybe they want to change that.
ReplyDeleteQuick, someone post "Cupcakes"!
ReplyDelete@Adrian Brony
ReplyDeleteIt's on Facebook. You have to be 13 to sign up.
Boy, Hasbro must not really understand what it is we do in fandom, or they'll be buried in Octavia fic & art and will be going, "Who the HELL is Octavia?"
ReplyDelete@Narwhals' Bend >_O No, just no.
ReplyDeleteDepends Seth on when they feel comfortable on how far they've come with Season 2 heh.
ReplyDeleteEh... Facebook. Seems like I'm the only person, err... pony, that doesn't have one. I find it kinda funny I have a FlankBook, but not a Facebook. :D
ReplyDelete@Oleetar Hate to say it but kids do know how to lie to websites. If not, I really fear for our future.
ReplyDelete@Derpy Hooves
ReplyDeleteI have no Facebook.
@NB
ReplyDeletenah, the fandoms notorious for making random characters notable and awesome. they probably would catch on quite fast.
@Firleycat
ReplyDeleteThey do, but it's still -supposed- to be for 13 and up, therefore defeating the point of making it for kids.
Oh, I was expecting something more along the lines of vBulletin or MyBB. This kind of strikes me as limited by fb's terrible messaging system.
ReplyDeleteMaking a forum for Bronies? Does Hasbro know what they're getting into?

@Star Gazer
ReplyDeleteBe cool though if they did give this site a teaser of Season 2 ( if they even do that ) before it actually airs on commercials and other places...
How can they expect this forum to be for the "younger audience" when you have to be at least 13 to have a facebook account. I'm not saying that stops 12 y/o's from making accounts, but it doesn't seem like the best place to have it when the site inherently restricts kids from joining.
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteWell this is cool and all, but I was hoping for something much bigger when I read the title.
ReplyDeleteIt seems like they just made a new section, put a banner over it, and told people to post ponies.
It's nice to see that they still recognize us, but how badass would it be to have an official full scale dedicated MLP forum?
@Adrian Brony
ReplyDeleteYou're probably right. But can you imagine some poor executive who got handed the show and was told to 'engage the fans'?
I'm excited to hear Hasbro endorse fanart and fanfiction like this.
ReplyDeleteWell, now we know why that video was "PRIVATE". How cool! A forum set up to interact with the fans!
ReplyDeleteI'm not really sure what this is for. Exclusive content is cool, but doesn't the rest just duplicate what their facebook wall already does? A separate site would've made more sense.
ReplyDeleteI still think that Hasbro doesn't quite understand fandom culture. We should send them TVtropes links.
ReplyDeleteI think they were just jealous that Equestria Daily gets all the fanart and fanfiction and they get nothing. Therefore, they try to add a bit more functionality to their facebook page, even though they don't have too many options there.
ReplyDeleteI don't think a real official forum would be good idea anyway, since they couldn't possibly moderate all the content that is produced by the fans.
@pixelkitties
ReplyDeleteMy vote goes to fiendish plot by Trollestia, but don't worry, we'll all learn a valuable lesson in friendship in the end so its alright.
@Firleycat
ReplyDeleteSeems like that video wasn't supposed to be released yet as it was set to private shortly after posted on ED.
Inb4 the place gets flooded with Rule 34.
ReplyDeleteLooks like hasbro's marketing department finally noticed adult fanbase. Impressively quick, for marketers. They response betrays their bewilderment, but what were you expecting?
ReplyDeleteAlso, I think it warrants mentioning that this was probably the "surprise" the facebook page had, and the calender thing was just weird timing.
ReplyDeleteLooks like a regular wall to me...
ReplyDeleteI'm starting to see why you don't like Facebook, Seth.
I get the feeling that when they are asking for pony stories they aren't asking for fanfiction, but for more benign stuff like how kids choose to play with the toys and stuff. I would think that the potential lawsuits that could arise, for example from any stories being uncomfortably close to an actual episode in the works, would make the screening of such stories posted to an official site too expensive and/or time consuming for Hasbro.
ReplyDeletei'd rather they start a real forum, instead of using a wall and calling it a forum.
ReplyDeletePeople better not be dumbasses and post 34 on that page because it doesn't make us look good. I'm not trying to say that those bronies who do 34 are bad it's just that it doesn't really potray a good image for the fandom
ReplyDeleteI dont really get the meaning of all this facebook fancy business. Is it like an imageboard with trips and avatars?
ReplyDeleteI can't help but think that Hasbro is constantly missing the point and definitely missing the mark.
ReplyDeleteIf I were a Hasbro exec, apart from the obvious on model toys, I'd just start licensing fan made merch; because the fanbase has clearly got it right and any company that can use already existing connections and networks to "finish" the products and market them to the greatest number of potential new customers, is onto a winner.
Everything they've done so far just seems like a misguided stab in the dark from people who have absolutely no idea how to react to recent revelations.
Speaking of forums though, how come ED doesn't have one Seth? I'm a senior forum mod elsewhere on the internet, so if it's down to a staffing issue, I'd be more than happy to lend a hand.
Hmm, it appears to be broken (or at least not made very well)...
ReplyDeleteFirst I get a security warning (I'm using the https version of facebook)... then when I add an exception I get a "Page Not Found" error when I click on the MLP Fan Forum link.
>Facebook page forum
ReplyDelete>Don't have a facebook account
Hasbro isn't capable of setting up a phbb or something?
Nice, but I'm not signing up for Facebook because of it. (I treasure my privacy).
ReplyDeleteWHEN ARE THEY GONNA ANNOUNCE THE RELEASE OF THE DVD?????
ReplyDeleteMeh. I hate facebook, don't have one, never will.
ReplyDeleteThe value in this for me, is it's shaping up to be the place where they officially release all the season 2/behind the scenes stuff.
Which, btw, I would love to see EVERYTHING behind the scenes on FiM.
ReplyDeleteThe video there is screwed up—the audio is slowed down and out of sync.
ReplyDeleteBut it's worth it for Applejack saying "We're hidin' from HER" when the video shows Celestia.
DO you think im to old to like my little pony im 10
