This is just one of those things you get in your email box and it makes you go, "awwwwwww". Alternately, if you're not a sap like me, it makes you go, "heck yeah, ponies!"
A professor at the iD Tech Camp at Washington University, which focuses on game development, recently had his entire class of boys between twelve and fifteen, plus the other instructors, implement a Pony Week. Oftentimes what this class does is have themed weeks for the students, and the ponies were added as kind of a joke. As you can see above, though, half the class and most of the professors admitted to being fans of the show before it was even mentioned. At the end of the week, nearly all of the class was converted to ponies. The posters above still hang in their rooms- you can see a Dr. Whoof, a Gordan Freemane, and a Master Chief up there. And a pink pony with a jetpack. That's awesome.
What happened at the end of the week... well, I'll copy the email:
To wrap up the week, another instructor, "Rainbow Dash," and I purchased a MLP toy to give away during a raffle as a mystery prize -- AppleJack's TreeHouse. The prize was won by a little girl, somewhat surprising considering the camp is mostly men, and the "Mystery Prize" is always a popular option. I had really hoped it would have been won by someone more... brony, she clearly wasn't even a fan. Which resulted in this exchange later:And we salute you for it, brave professor. We salute you.
Little Boy: Fluttershy, was there a boy prize too?Me: That WAS the prize for boys!Little Boy: ಠ_ಠ
I have destroyed his concept of gender roles forever.

VastaKustuta"This is a horse...." pfff. ^^ This professor deserves a medal for his work.
wow, awesome!
VastaKustutaRequesting fanart of badass pink jetpack pony. IT MUST EXIST.
VastaKustutaAWW MAN! I went to IDtech Washington University last year and wanted to go back this year, but I couldn't because I'm too old now. DAMN YOU AGE RESTRICTIONS! I COULD HAVE HAD A BRONY WEEK!
VastaKustutaGet it out of our schools, before they all start self-medicating!
VastaKustutaPink pony needs a name!
VastaKustutathis is amazingly awesome!
VastaKustutaI have to email this to my mom.
@Anonymous
VastaKustutaPink Exhaust?
Jetblade?
Escape Velocity?
THIS IS THE BEST
VastaKustutaI went to iD Tech at Emery here in ATL for two years in a row, but we never did anything this cool!
VastaKustutaHahaha, wow that's pretty awesome, look at those stellar ponies. These professors get my respect, my only regret is I wasn't there to win that Applejack.
VastaKustutaI will be this kind of professor.
VastaKustutaI'm just picturing the class when it first met, and everypony is slowly coming to realize, "Hey, I'm NOT the only pony fan here!"
VastaKustutaI'm seeing mad smiles slowly splitting faces, and the rest of the class going, "What did we sign up for?"
RAGE and DOOM IV to now include ponies: Confirmed!
VastaKustutaShame there isn't a video.
VastaKustutaI went to an ID Tech camp at Rider University a few years ago, it's a good program. Awesome story though.
VastaKustuta"At the end of the week, nearly all of the class was converted to ponies."
VastaKustutaOhmygosh,it sounds creepy. D:
Sounds like my kind of professor.
VastaKustutaGordon, not Gordan.
VastaKustutaBest professor ever. :D
VastaKustutaThat pink pony with the wings, jet pack, sword, and derp face... the lost second banished sister of Celestia?
VastaKustutaAwww... why couldn't my teacher have done this?
VastaKustuta(I took a class at WashU for Java Programming)
That's great :) I love the little girl's response

@Anonymous
VastaKustutaYes. Each sister was given a sacred task. Celestia was to raise the sun. Luna the moon. And Rocket Stabby was to launch through the air and stab people.
You see, young ones, that is how you get htings done.
VastaKustutaRocket stabby .... MUST WRITE FANFIC NAO BYE BYE
VastaKustutaRocket Stabby versus Krastos the Gluemaker: Who will win?

Brief correction; "Pony Week" wasn't just my class, it was across the entire camp. Every instructor had a pony nickname. Some of us were just... especially enthusiastic about it. "Big Macintosh" Modeled Pony's for his Maya class all week.
VastaKustuta-- Professor Shy
inb4 Gordon Freestallion
VastaKustutaWe can argue that getting a Fluttershy toy for the little boy is correct choice, otherwise it'd be gay.
VastaKustutaFULL SPEED AHEAD ROCKET STABBY! ^3^
VastaKustuta>I have destroyed his concept of gender roles forever.

FreeMANE! Gordon FREEMANE!
VastaKustuta@Anonymous
VastaKustutaAll of my respect. Goes to this.
From my experience, Games Development teachers tend to be a bit out there like this. I remember having a 20 minute discussion with one on how a fight between GLaDOS and Cthulhu would play out.
VastaKustutaThis is still pretty cool. Bronies might be closer to be accepted in the open than we though.
@Firleycat
VastaKustutaWho won? :0
inb4 some stupid fathers complain that they are turning their sons in homosexuals
VastaKustutaOh gosh. Freepony doesn't have the slightest ring to it; I like Freemane better, seeing as how I RP Gordon Freemane on Facebook.
VastaKustuta"My Little Timelord"...PRICELESS!
VastaKustutaOh my goodness! I went to iD Tech camps when I was about 12! They were super fun.
VastaKustutaOh God... Words CAN NOT describe the level of awesomeness.
VastaKustuta@Anonymous
VastaKustutaThis was before Portal 2 was even announced but we came to the agreement that GLaDOS could win if she could figure out the right amount of nurotoxin to knock out Cthulhu and dump him in the incinerator before Cthulhu could tear the enrichment center apart. After Portal 2, I think Aperture science with have plans in place to deal with it already.
So where was this camp? I went to a bassoon camp at Emory, and there was a tech camp that I saw from time to time. I was going to see if there were any fellow bronies, but I was too busy recruiting more in my own camp.
VastaKustutaROCKET STABBY... unfortunately her stabby ways were not accepted by her tyrant sister, who sealed her away inside a pine-cone.
VastaKustuta@James
VastaKustuta"horses look exactly like this"
And don't let nobody tell you otherwise, son.
*manly tear*
D:
VastaKustutaI want that tree house
GORDON FREEMANE.
VastaKustutaYES.
@Randomjack
VastaKustutaNot all bronies frown down upon physical fitness. What is the point of becoming extremely smart if you are just going to die early because you made terrible health decisions.
Oh god LOL. One part of me just sighs and facehoof's, but the other side screams HOLY SHIT THAT IS AWESOME. This guy wins all my Internets.
VastaKustutaHA! Oh Fluttershy... sending in our camp's theme to Equestria Daily. I can proudly say I'm the one who converted him to Bronyism. I was Big Macintosh that week. It was a great week.
VastaKustutaIt's GORDON FREEMAN. You really need to stay inside more.
VastaKustutaWhy does Firefly have a sword and jetpack?
VastaKustutaThis guy is officially brony of the week.
VastaKustuta"The prize was won by a little girl, "
VastaKustuta*Spike-Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo*
Greatest teacher ever. Every class should involve ponies!
VastaKustutaThis is child abuse, you know that right?
VastaKustutaI wish my iD Tech Camp had been this awesome. (Granted MLP FiM didn't exist last time I went but still)
VastaKustuta@Kayosiv
VastaKustutaBusted. Hey, the week was great. Everyone should appreciate our greatness.
Holy cow, I remember going to iD Tech Camp when I was in middle school.
VastaKustuta"as you can see above, most of the professors are fans of the series before it was mentioned"
VastaKustutaCLEARLY, a childs drawing reflects this. Sheesh, more cases of pure fail blogging, you blog by random speculation and laziness, its so annoying.
Haha, that's awesome. I am actually an instructor at one of the iD camps in Massachusetts this year. We are starting the week on Monday with Victorian-themed fancy week.
VastaKustutaI should totally propose a pony week, since I have another 2 weeks after this one.
@andrew great idea, we should have a brony of the week post
VastaKustuta"Little Boy: Fluttershy, was there a boy prize too?
VastaKustutaMe: That WAS the prize for boys!
Little Boy: ಠ_ಠ
I have destroyed his concept of gender roles forever."
Yes, this pleases me.
Ok, that may have been a bit too far.
VastaKustutaThere is a fine line between:
discovering and appreciating the show,
or
Forced indoctrination of bronies.
@KShrike
VastaKustutaThere was nothing forced about it. It was all very light hearted. And you should lighten up some too.
