The video accompanying this post doesn't include Rainbow Dash, but it does include Rarity. And, really, that's all that matters, because Rarity is better.
A new kart-racing game has popped up; an amalgamation of two separate projects merged into one, teams and all. The team is currently making good progress on the game, but they're still looking for team members, including 3D modellers and concept artists. You can find the Ponychan collab thread here, or you can also email the project lead directly here.
Click after the break to see a proof of concept video. The email clarifies that the final version most likely will have the ponies in karts and not feature Mariokart tracks.

First? I dunno.
ReplyDeleteMY DREAMS ARE COMING TRUE!
ReplyDeleteRarity? A regular racehorse? How could you?
ReplyDeleteA Mode 7 design doesn't work very well for the current sprites, but that shouldn't make any difference if they end up putting the ponies in karts.
ReplyDeleteNo fair, Rainbow Dash would automatically win every race!
ReplyDeleteLooking good so far, will definitely keep an eye on that.
Kart Racer? Meh.
ReplyDeleteI just want my open world MLP online tactic-FPS with RPG elements.
@Dylan
ReplyDeleteI know. Would have made more sense to have Rainbow Dash as the 'test pilot' for this.
That said... SOO AWESOME! (^3^)
Bonus points for using Art of the Dress instead of Winter Wrap-Up, but I'm gonna have to wait for a more polished version before getting excited.
ReplyDelete>MLP Kart
ReplyDelete>No karts
"The email clarifies that the final version most likely will have the ponies in karts"
ReplyDeleteI like this. I suggested it to them a while ago, it just works better. Plus, they each get a unique kart.
I find the game-play a little to look at, but awesome none the less!
ReplyDeleteEach pony should have their own special power-up!
RD- Sonic Rainboom(obviously), boost ahead of all racers.
TS- Teleport, randomly placed within the top three racers.
That's all I can think of so far :P
YESSS!!!
ReplyDeleteFINALLY!!!!1
EHEHEHEHEHE *Explodes*
*Explodes again*
love the idea expt the idea that they will be in carts that seems a bit silly
ReplyDeleteRarity is galloping up in front of the pack, but wait! Rarity just came out of nowhere and is now in first place, oh no! Rarity just crashed to a wall it's all over for her, and here comes rarity from behind and is speeding past rarity, it's all comes down to this, who is going to win, rarity is coming from behind, now rarity is in first, and here comes rarity again and it's all over! Rarity wins! That's all I could think of while watching this!
ReplyDelete"The video accompanying this post doesn't include Rainbow Dash, but it does include Rarity. And, really, that's all that matters, because Rarity is better."
ReplyDeleteAnd with those two sentences, Cereal lost my respect.
Just kidding. (But Rainbow is better.:P )
On Topic: This game looks like it could have a lot of potential. Plus, the Art of the Dress Remix was a great choice, as it already sounds like video game music.
I'll definitely be keeping my eye on it.
I'm liking this idea.
ReplyDeletePonies in karts, it kinda reminds me that I need to stop slacking and finish my ModNation projects.
ohmigoshohmigoshohmigoshohmigoshohmigoshohmigoshohmigoshohmigosh.
ReplyDeleteI would play this with my face.
@GreenGuy
ReplyDeleteSpeaking of ModNation, Pinkie Pie was top mod a while back.
and then I made a rubbish trixie mod because there wasn't already one
:o this is madness!
ReplyDeleteMadness? This! Is! Equestria!
I'm trying to figure out how that actually qualifies as proof of concept. Did they actually write any code there? It looks like a sprite hack of Super Mario Kart with different acceleration/turning rates and no collisions.
ReplyDeleteME WANT!!
ReplyDeleteOh Rarity, how unladylike! She's certainly no slouch though by the looks of it
ReplyDelete@Anonymous I was thinking she was racing against a "ghost", (when you try to beat your own record at a race track) but IDK.
ReplyDeleteI love it! It looks like a legit game of the early 90's. Though with the audio being that good, it'd have to be a Sega CD game.
ReplyDeleteCoins should be replaced with apples.
ReplyDelete...assuming they're put in the game at all, anyway.
SO MANY PROJECTS. Little to no finished products :/
ReplyDeleteAs for this game in particular, they run a little too fast. I suppose that's alright, given this is a work in progress.
Oh, and regardless of the fact they're going to be in karts, there should definitely be a footrace game mode.
ReplyDeleteAnybody with Blender experience could make pony karts for Super Tux Kart. This would be easier than designing a completely new game.
ReplyDeleteAre there existing pony meshes that can be imported into Blender?
I don't have much experience with it, but I found a tutorial on the Super Tux Kart site: http://supertuxkart.sourceforge.net/Making_kart_tutorial
That's my rarity sprite.......ripped from the blurred .GIF sheets on my DA......
ReplyDeleteAlthough he did tell me earlier he ripped them......
OhMyGosh
ReplyDeleteOhMyGosh
OhMyGosh
Can't Wait to play as Scootaloo xd
FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFYES
ReplyDeleteOh dear, though. Nobody's going to be completely satisfied with the roster, are they? Everybody will want their favorite background ponies as well and they certainly can't get all of them...
Just shut up and take my money!
ReplyDeleteI'm realy hoping for hoofrace mode, a whitetail woods track, and throwing blueberry muffins at the lead. :)
ReplyDeleteRarity pony is fastest pony
ReplyDeletegotta make that in 3d and have htem drive around in gocarts. Yes, I'd love to see a mario cart remake with MLP lol
ReplyDeleteHOLY F#CKING SH#T. THIS IS AMAZING.
ReplyDeleteOh snap! I can't wait for this!
ReplyDeleteThat gallop animation is a work of fricking art.
ReplyDeleteAs awesome as karts are, it'd be kind of a shame to ditch it....
@jspenguin
ReplyDeleteI was wondering that myself, it's basically an open source Mario Kart engine. The current 3D models could be used, just build some carts for them, create some tracks and all done.
Should have been MarioKart64... it used sprites for the drivers as well.. and its better.
ReplyDelete@ShoutingRyan
ReplyDeleteNonsense. SMK is best Mario Kart.
Hmm. I see they used SMK, not MK64.
ReplyDelete.......damnit. It'll be a LOT of work, but this makes me wanna dig up all my old hacking research and make a Pony Kart 64. But this one does look promising. Lets see how it goes first.
But that Rarity sprite has me giddy. I could put that in Pokemon.... I mean, um... with permission. That's another day though, I just wanna play this when it's done.
...I want this just because of that header image.
ReplyDeleteBut I find the sped-up music annoying. >.<
So basically...theyre modifying the Mario Kart ROM to make it a standalone MLP app?
ReplyDeleteThis is gana be good
ReplyDeleteGood, Mario Kart tracks suck.
ReplyDeleteOne problem I see with this: Rarity's cutie mark is showing up on both flanks.
ReplyDeleteOK, this is pretty neat. It's mario circuit 1 from super mario kart, with ponies instead.
ReplyDeleteI can dig it, but that music is definitely NOT from the snes engine. The sound effects probably are.
whatever they do, they need to have a kartless mode too!
Ok thats pretty cool. But it needs to be about 20% cooler.
ReplyDeletein ten seconds flat
ReplyDeleteAAHHHH RAINBOW DASH WOULD MAKE THIS GAME 20% COOLER!!!
ReplyDelete@TGPFluttershy
ReplyDeleteNaw, Applejack would make her bind her wings again. Doesn't matter anyhow, as Twilight could just teleport to the finish line. Yeah. As if 'slow and steady' is how she REALLY one that one race : D
@Eric
ReplyDeleteA pony's cutie mark is supposed to show up on both flanks. That'd be... odd if it wasn't.
Hello everyone! Just to clarify. The game will be remade in 3d and also has 3 modes.
ReplyDeleteFootrace, Skyfly and Kart.
This is the project leader Xeol.
Click my name to see the progress reports.
@Anonymous
ReplyDeleteAhem... Background ponies are included but unlockables. :D
@Jerry Zucchini
ReplyDeleteTake a look at my blog. You'll be surprised.
@Lupus Albus
ReplyDeleteI've written this as my base code myself. Took me a day to finish.
I can't wait to see ponies with blue sparks.
ReplyDeleteSuper Mare Kart?
ReplyDeleteI like the idea.
You have NO idea how badly I want to play this right now.
ReplyDeletewell i hope it comes out soon if it's not already
ReplyDeleteI actually made a texture hack course on Mario Kart Wii called "Pony Raceway" :3
ReplyDelete
