This is the compiled part two of that! Complete with videos and some pictures to go along with it, as well as a meetup with Daniel Ingram himself! You can find the entire copy paste after the break!
Last weekend I went with some buddies of mine to Vancouver, BC to see a live performance of the local band Hey Ocean! If this doesn't ring any bells yet, one of the band's members, Ashleigh Ball, is the voice performer for both Rainbow Dash and Applejack. I booked the plans weeks ago for the sole purpose of seeing this awesome band live, but the weekend evolved much past that. After accumulating a handful of friends up for the trip (including the forever awesome BronyMike -- see his account of the final night's events here), our plans quickly turned much more.. pony focused.
Since hearing about the Canada-exclusive Pony Lunchbag, one of our stops had to be to the local Zellers. Alas, they had not yet received the merchandice, and almost all their FiM merch was out of stock (looks like they DO love their own show up there).. We bought their last remaining Applejack and were on our way.
Sunday morning was a bit of a treat. After a bit of spontaneous schedule-mashing, my group met up with Daniel Ingram at a Starbucks down in Kitsilano. As you would probably expect, he was a blast to talk to and really loves the community and everything we have accomplished. The man really puts his heart and soul into his work, and deserves all your love and praise! Brony Appreciation Day is just as much about us appreciating the people who make this show possible as it is them acknowledging the amazing community that sprung from it, am I right? He gave to me a copy of the music chart for Pinkie's "Laughter Song," and I to him one of my last Rainbow Dash cutie mark pins, and after a short hour, we parted ways.
Sunday night approached, as did the event that got us all to travel up from Seattle in the first place. As we prepared to journey over to Stanley Park, I pulled my guitar out and ran through a couple quick FiM tracks. We packed light and walked to our place in the park. The show was really incredible. Not a lot of live performances give artists justice, but this was definitely their element. If you ever get the chance to check out Hey Ocean! in concert, I heavily recommend you do so!
Okay, enough teasing. You might have heard I got footage of Ashleigh Ball and her message to the community, so here it is!
Overall I'd say it was a pretty epic weekend.

first for once
ReplyDeleteI'm moving to Burnaby in the fall, so I'm definitely going to try and find a Hey Ocean concert.
ReplyDeleteomfg RD and AJ at the same time?
ReplyDeletejizzed.
BEST DAY EVER
ReplyDeleteAlso, a random thought I just had: it must have been pretty darn amusing in the recording studio for Fall Weather Friends, considering that Ashleigh was basically talking to herself for most of the episode.
ReplyDeleteThat was Awesome
ReplyDeleteAHHHH that was totally awesome I love Ashleigh~!!
ReplyDelete"I love Bronies."
ReplyDeleteAnd we love you back, Ashleigh. Stay awesome. :D
Really cool. Sounds like it was an awesome time. :D
ReplyDelete@GabuEx I'd imagine that that's a pretty common occurrence in cartoons. Wasn't it Ed,Edd,&Eddy that were all the same guy?
ReplyDeleteThat was awesome!!!
ReplyDeleteMany, many thanks to all those involved in sharing such wonderful stuff with us. Just hearing Ashleigh Ball go from her voice to AJ's to RD's bang-bang-bang like that was just amazing, and kind of cemented my love-hate relationship with her role in the show (AJ is my favorite pony, RD my least. Voiced by the same woman! Brain can't decide what to think!!)
ReplyDeleteBiggest smile on my face right now.
ReplyDeleteHow awesome was that? Many <3's to you too, Ashleigh! I can't stop smiling now...
ReplyDeleteHow could you not like Rainbow Dash or Applejack after watching this. I mean seriously, how could yooouuuu?
ReplyDeleteSo, in the linked video of the Hey Ocean performance, Ashleigh pulled out a bubble gun and, well, shooting a ton of bubbles.
ReplyDeleteI guess she's Derpy now too.
Either way, Hey Ocean is awesome.
That was SO AWESOME! *rainbow dash picture here*
ReplyDeleteBut yeah, seriously, that was amazing! I'm glad you got Ashleigh on tape. It's wonderful to know that they (Cast and crew.) DO know about us, and appreciate us. We love you guys! (And girls! Haha.)
@Anonymous Ed, Edd, & Eddy were three different VA's, actually, sorry to say. However... on a related note, the VA for Nazz from EE&E is Rarity and Luna, :D
ReplyDeleteIt's going to has been SO! AWESOME!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a cool young lady.
I can't believe the voice for the two most awesome characters is only just now learning about Bronies. O_o
ReplyDeleteAnd did she seem kinda weirded out to anypony else? I guess maybe she just wasn't prepared for what was probably an impromptu interview, but I thought I picked up a hint of "You guys are weird." in her voice. >_>
This show has the coolest actors ever.
ReplyDelete@Fluttershy
ReplyDeleteYou were voted #1 pony missie. You have off of the best "firsts" that you can get. Even Celestia is jealous!
That's awesome. I can't stop smiling now.
ReplyDeleteAs Rainbow Dash would say: SO AWESOME /)^É›^(\
ReplyDeleteThese two articles have made me the giddiest I've been in an incredibly long time. Ashleigh Ball voices my two absolute favourite characters, and to find out she has a band in my city? I'm totally ecstatic. I need to catch one of their shows.
ReplyDeleteoh and on the video... Yeah that woman is pretty awesome. Even more so cannot wait for more Season 2!
ReplyDeleteBTW, what's with me tonight... "You have off of" wut...
I ment "You have one of the best "firsts"" lol
What a badass voice actor!
ReplyDeleteI'd love to meet her.
I'd say something, but words fail me.
ReplyDeleteSo I'll just Dashface.
/)^É›^(\
@Anonymous I kinda felt that too but she was nice enough to stand in front send a message
ReplyDeleteEPICCCCCCCCCCC
ReplyDeleteBiggest grin on my face. =)
ReplyDeleteHow quaint for her to have a subtle interview with the brony fans. She did look pretty nervous and pretty much looked like she had to improvise just to give a short-notice shout-out to everyone.
She seem like one of those type that resolve around a schedule and that she has little time to interact with the community. Hence why she stated "first brony encounter".
Still, it was exhilarating to see and hear the voice actor of Rainbow Dash and Applejack outside of her usual working space.
@Anonymous
ReplyDeleteI didn't think so. She came off to me more as a combination of 'I honestly don't know what to say that won't make me sound like an idiot, what do I say, WHAT DO I SAY?' and 'ACK! I'm going to be late!'.
Let's also not forget she had just gotten done with a performance a short while ago. Even though its been many years since I last played in a group in front of a crowd, doing so always left me drained and yet hyper at the same time. I guess what I'm trying to say is, you certainly aren't going to be your 'normal, everyday' self for quite some time later, which may have also added to how she came across.
Still, AWESOME stuff! We love you too Ashleigh!
I like how she runs away at the end, like she's freaked out by the Bronies all standing around her, holding Mc. Donalds toys of the two characters she plays in a cartoon intended for younger girls, as they "SQUEE" to hear her voice act the most comonly shipped characters (to my knowledge)... not that its all weird or anything >.>
ReplyDeleteOKAY BRONIES, someone needs to make a PMV of a Hey Ocean song using Applejack RIGHT NOW.
ReplyDeleteHonestly, she sounds just like AJ in some of the songs. This must be done.
@Anonymous
ReplyDeleteHere, use this /)^3^(\
Jealous
ReplyDelete@GabuEx I'd pay to see that.
@Anonymous
ReplyDeleteAt the end of the Ashleigh shout out, the next video to watch is a PMV of a Hey Ocean song, that features scenes of AJ and RD. =P
AWESOME just AWESOME !!!
ReplyDelete@Anonymous
ReplyDeleteAnd Ed's is Soaren.
*Rainbow Dash squee* Oh....wow. Did I just make that sound...?
ReplyDeleteAh, screw it, I don't care. This is AWESOME!!
@BagOfChips
ReplyDeleteAre you serious?!
Awesome first annual Brony day!
ReplyDelete*SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE*
ReplyDeleteHey Ocean sounds like a shitty Hipster band.
ReplyDelete@Dave Mustang, the cynical Brony
ReplyDeleteI knew it, I was waiting for it. It was only a matter of time.
Oh dang, when she did Applejack and Rainbow Dash's voice... /)^É›^(\
ReplyDelete@Anonymous
ReplyDeleteEeeyup:

@Anonymous
ReplyDeleteHonestly, I'm surprised no one's done one so far as I know.
@thehivemind33
ReplyDeleteOh hai Hivemind, how is your sex life?
.... the smile on my face won't go away after watching this.
ReplyDeleteI would say "awesome,", but... *Counts* there are seventeen bronies ahead of me who have used the word already. So...agh, screw it, this is awesome.
ReplyDeleteSeeing her do Applejack and Rainbow Dash's voice live was awesome!
ReplyDeleteAfter hearing Hey Ocean, I realize Applejack and Rainbow Dash need a TON more songs in the next season. Her voice is lovely.
ReplyDeleteJust going to say, can we PUHLEEEZE stop shipping RD and AJ together (we shouldn't really be shipping at all, but...).
ReplyDeleteSame person.... well.... yeah....
@AnonymousYeah, but if they used a song where she sounds more like Applejack, like "A Song About California," and then lip-synched it with a few Applejack scenes from the show, it would be at least 20% cooler.
ReplyDeleteAnd then she ran off never to be seen again.....
ReplyDeleteAm I the only one here who wants scans of that sheet music? Like, RIGHT NOW?
ReplyDelete@KShrike
ReplyDeleteThen it just counts as self-love, which is perfectly healthy.
Dang straight, that's awesome!
ReplyDelete@thehivemind33 I suggest we take a shot of whiskey whenever Dave replies at a post :D It'll be like a fun game! WOOHOO!
ReplyDeleteAnyway, this update? Full of awesome. She looked more nervous about appearing on camera than freaked out about the fans, though.
Ashleigh I love you and if it can be possible I will travel to USA for your concert. I can't say how much joy I have from this video. This is the best day ever.
ReplyDeleteFor anyone that wants to hear a Hey Ocean song in which the singer really sounds like Applejack, check out Beatboxer on their Youtube channel. It's amazing.
ReplyDeleteThat was the single greatest 50 seconds of my life.
ReplyDeleteCan you imagine how awesome it would be to be able to BE their voices? I am so jelly Ashleigh.
She makes Hey Ocean about 20% cooler than all other bands.
ReplyDeleteFeminine? I think she meant the most masculine thing ever.
ReplyDeleteI am speechless Daniel Ingram now has one of the pins I made. I have the stupidest grin right now.
ReplyDelete>mfw Rainbow Dash and Applejack are voiced by the same person
ReplyDeleteAlmost as surprising as Pinkie and Fluttershy
That's awesome, thanks for sharing it with us :)
ReplyDeleteI hope you've had a great trip!
And Seth, the second link doesn't send us to BronyMike's profile.
@DarklyCute/PinFilly
ReplyDeleteThat was from the first run of pins too. I have two left from my initial pre-order. ONE was supposed to go with Ashleigh BUT I COMPLETELY FORGOT.
This post is just so full of win! That's amazing that Mr. Ingram agreed to meet up with you. He's such an incredibly cool guy! :D
ReplyDeleteYAY! Ashleigh Ball! I've been waiting for this update ever since I heard about it on BronyMike's post. SO AWESOME!
@Bejoty I was totally thinking of emailing and asking you about that. Augh, too bad. Yeah, she ran off before we could get photos or give her stuff.
ReplyDeleteI also would love to see a scan of The Laughter Song, though I'm sure there are probably some legal concerns that could arise from you sharing it around.
Now we need someone to find the VAs for the rest of the mane six!
ReplyDelete@Marcoooootje1 He intends it to link to the article about my signed ponies, and that's where it links.
ReplyDelete@BronyMike
ReplyDeleteI might ask him about that sometime.. It seemed to me more like a personal gift, but he didn't explain very clearly what exactly it was in the scope of information and release. I'm sure he wouldn't have handed over anything that could get him in trouble with legal distribution stuff. Still, I'll inquire before I plan anything with it.
She's in a band!?!?!?1
ReplyDelete20% cooler.
Takemymoney.jpg
ReplyDeleteAnyone want some jelly? I recently came into possession of a very large quantity...
ReplyDeleteThis brings a big, stupid grin to my face. Overall, I'd say we had a very successful first Brony Day.
@Bejoty I said "I also" because someone else mentioned it earlier. I'm just regretting a little bit that I didn't take a closer look through it before you put it away.
ReplyDeleteWell, dang. She's as awesome as the characters she voice!
ReplyDelete@Dave Mustang, the cynical Brony
ReplyDeleteYou should changeyour name being "cynical" doesn't mean being a jerkass
Isherwood seems a but creeped out by us bronies ...
ReplyDeleteTo much happy. Going to explode now. =D!!!
ReplyDeleteOk that rocks. That is all.
ReplyDelete@Anonymous Don't let him get to our heads. Shrug it off, friend. Besides, he's harmless.
ReplyDeleteI will, from now on, take a whiskey shot whenever he appears. Makes things more fun indeed.
heeeyyyy, that was damned awesome, both of 'em!
ReplyDelete@Anonymous
ReplyDeleteGood ol' Jack Daniels sourmash, or something else? :P
This comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteAshleigh should be wary in future with "Random Brony Encounters".
ReplyDeleteThat was an epic Bejotyquest.
ReplyDeleteI've been watching her A-J/R-D greetings on repeat for 30 times. I still don't get enough! :D
ReplyDelete@Laurence Brown RD least favourite!? How's that possible!? A-J's awesome... But I mean RAINBOW DASH! 8D
ReplyDeleteOf course everypony's entiteled to their opinion... It just confuzzles me...
FANTASTIC!!!
ReplyDeleteI can't believe this was her first Brony encounter!!
I'm curious as to why...
Epic beyond moprtal comprehension :P
ReplyDelete@WhatPayne
ReplyDeleteNot sure if trolling but I do agree with this comment. There's a few "obsessed" people out there, and with her being hot as all get out there's certainly a need for caution.
Ashleigh is great. Great voice both singing and speaking and Hey Ocean is a great band. We love the FiM crew and they love us back. That is so awesome that she took some time out to give a shout-out. I hope they give Applejack a solo song in season two.
ReplyDelete@GabuEx I would have loved to have been in the recording studio for that. She seems to be able to go switch between the two voices quite easily. Not just changing her voice but also matching the characters mannerisms in speech.
@Doc Steedly Possibly a combination of people not making the connection between her name and the band and those that did make the connection not knowing how she and her band mates would react. Although now she has opened herself up to Bronies showering her with love.
ReplyDeleteNext step: avoid freaking the poor woman out. But as for the video, all I can say is this:
ReplyDelete/)^3^(\
@Dave Mustang, the cynical Brony
ReplyDeleteOne channeling of Tommy Wiseau later, and any arguments that Dave Mustang ain't trolling were thrown out the fucking window.
And she galloped off into the night.
ReplyDeleteAwesome, totaly awesome!!!
ReplyDeleteShe love us XD
It's nice of her to take time. Even when she is already so busy. To talk to the fan's.
ReplyDeleteThe ones she apparently did not know she had.
Yeah I'd run too if I as her. POOR WOMAN. ):
ReplyDeleteWUT JUST HAPPUN? I SPLODED WITH HAPPINESS!
ReplyDelete@sidnoea: I want that sheet music too! It's beautiful!
ReplyDeleteHasbro, please release an official song book!
