There is definitely a lack of Lyra and Bonbon lately. Luckily this comic hopes to make up for that with 6 pages of everyone's favorite Ponyville couple!
Well, other than some typos. Like calling Bon Bon a guy once. lol They are very cute and endearing comics. Though I wonder how Lyra got pregnant. Can't be from Bon Bon obviously. So that means she must've been already expecting before the incident.
The first five pages were heart-warmingly amazing! The watercolor artwork is perfect, and lends a dreamy, light mood to the whole story. I threw on some melancholy piano music at page two, and it complimented the story beautifully. I'm not sure that I understand the last page though. Did the revelation have to do with Lyra being attacked? If so, that's a MAJOR, unexplained tonal shift for the last few panels.
This was very good. Cute without being over the top. the ending was good too, if a little bit predictable by the second last part. we need more of these kinds of comics
The art style was a little unusual, but still well-drawn. I get the feeling English isn't the creator's first language, though, since there were a few awkward wordings throughout the thing.
When I first saw this I thought it was a crossover with "Mysery" novel by Stephen King. Bon Bon's face in the first page gives me fear. I'm glad that I was wrong, I really hated that book.
The comic isn't finished yet. That weird-ass plot twist isn't the end.
Anyway, I want to like this; the art is nice and I actually think the somewhat non-standard approach to panels is pretty cool. Problem is, the writing is an absolute mess, and the story is kind of dumb. The author isn't a native English speaker, so I feel kind of bad criticizing the writing, but it really needs some polish and quality control.
The explanation for the uncontrollable magic is pregnancy; sort of like mood swings or cravings, it's magic swings. At least that is what the last comic is conveying. Also, a possible reason why Lyra was running away from something...
Much too late for your "inb4", sir. Anyway, very well done. I suspect this was done by someone who's primary language is not English, but it wasn't that big a problem. LOVE the closeups for the proportions given to them. It gives more realism to the face shape while still having a clearly My Little Pony face.
*imitates Family Guy* Well those were some great comics, the two of them meeting, Bon Bon letting Lyra stay, and- HMWHUUUUUUUUUUUT?!
My surprise at Lyra being preggers aside, they really were awesome! Please make more! I wanna see what happens next! Will it be a colt or a filly? Will this affect their relationship? This bring wants answers! XD
I like it! And yeah, in the description it says it was translated by somepony before being written into the art, so it might have been some literal translations going on there. Still, doesn't detract from the beautiful art style and very interesting premise.
@Phoe And now we know who attacked Lyra in the forest that night and caused her to become pregnant. Silly Phoe! /joking
@KShrike Like I said before, her magic outbursts are being caused by her pregnancy. And her being pregnant may have been caused by whomever attacked her and cause her to lose her memory...its pretty grim if you think about it.
There are quite a few comments about the English/translation.
I personally think that it compliments the comic. It gives the feel of the older Japanese manga/anime translations, and I'm more than okay with that. It never interferes with the actual understanding of what's going on, and for me anyway, it actually adds to the mood of the whole thing...
So...was she raped? Is that what we're supposed to take away from this? She was attacked and then raped. That's...kind of dark for such an upbeat comic. Especially considering it came right the fuck outta nowhere without hardly any development before that.
I gotta say, after I read the first few comments I honestly was expecting a Misery takeoff. Especially with Bon Bon's terrifying face in the fourth comic when Lyra tries to leave.
The first two comments of the thread made me giggle in a ball for a good five minutes. I am too easily amused.
I liked the comic, had a good flow and the art style was nice, and fittingly simplistic. Bon Bon has awesome facial expressions. The ending, I felt, broke the tone a bit, and demands some explaining.
That was a nice comic, the art style was really good, (Though in a few panels Lyra's eyes looked all freaky and soulless and kind of weirded me out, but that's probably just me...) and the story was sweet as well. Don't know what to take from the ending though. Will there be more?
@Abjuron Except most old Japanese manga/anime translations are pretty objectively bad and there isn't really any reason for this story to ape that style.
Also the way the "you're pregnant!" twist was handled reminds me of a parody of daytime soap operas.
the true father of Lyra's baby is actually Luna's abacus. see, abacus and Lyra's lyre met at a bar one night and really hit it off so they decided to elope. but having neither legs nor reproductive organs Lyra stepped up to not only fairy the new couple away from Canterlot but also carry there child for them.
Luna soon found out and went to show that home wrecking lyre a lessen. next thing you know poor Lyras in a coma with a half dead lyre and poor abacus spends the next 6 months in a dungeon while Luna does long division with an SAT calculator...
right, silliness aside, nice comic, liked the artwork but the dialog was a bit clunky at times. for some reason it reminded me a lot of a J-RPG (not in a bad way, just in a vaguely foreign way) i look forward to more :)
Well given that Bon Bon found Lyra just after the attack, and that the attacker was scared off by the lyre breaking when Lyra was hit ... I don't think the ending and the attack are directly related.
Completely on another topic, the artwork is quite good!
Guys, guys, didn't any of y'all read Manec Depression? Obviously, they just filled out the correct paperwork, not what any of y'all are thinking. Ain't gonna be no dirty-minded individuals in my pony site, no sir B(
So rape, or she was already pregnant at the time of the attack. Heh. At lease the author has mentioned in the dA comments that this series is still ongoing. We might find out just who the biological father is. ...right before Bon Bon kicks him right between the goal posts. >_< -- -Starcat5
I agree. Objectively, the old translations of anime and manga were terrible. However, assuming this is an amateur translation of an Asian-made comic (and not just an intentional copycat of that style), it subjectively tickles my nostalgic fancy in it's broken English cadence.
I also agree that the "surprise" ending was too abrupt (see my first comment). I reiterate that I hope for more comics SOON, or my favorable opinion of the first six pages will fade quickly.
Seriously though, it was pretty good. It was well drawn, and seemed to be well written (I kind of skimmed through it a bit. Not really my kind of story, but well done all the same!)
I get the impression that English isn't your first language. Not a big deal or anything, it was still enjoyable, but it could've used a little more work.
Come, come now, chap! This is Anon we're talking about. Surely, we've done worse. Why, I remember just the other day in the religiously political forums ...
So she just randomly becomes pregnant. Is the reason she ran away because she was pregnant? That would make more sense than Bon-Bon being that father (as they have no such relations in this) or that she was raped by a manticore.
She wasn't raped, exactly. Worse still, her "boy"friend humped her and dumped her. She ran away over being used and rejected like that.
Also, the author has stated that this series is loosely based on EVERY Lyra/Bon Bon shipfic EVER, so there must be ONE fanfic on EqD that will tell us who the Daddy is. Get to reading, folks. ^_^
Also, LJ is apparently down, so I had to post this as an Anon. Sorry. -- -Starcat5
Thanks a lot for the comments, yes im Mexican, and my English is so bad, my translator is from Spain, and this comic is not directed by M. Night Shyamalan, and the page 6 is not the end of the comic, but will be more suspense in the comic
Personally, I think babies in equestria come from magic. Seriously, there's hardly any male ponies. Either they're really busy, or magic makes the babies.
The only thing is the occasionally creepy artwork. I'm with the previous commenter who thought BonBon's first appearance looked like Misery -- I had exactly the same thought!

ReplyDeleteOh you guys
ReplyDeleteI was really hoping for a Misery parody.
ReplyDeleteYa know what? I can't beleive I didn't see that ending coming. I was so sure it would end differently...
ReplyDeletelol and i just read the empty room where bon-bon betrays lyra and then commits suicide cause lyra's gonna get executed....
ReplyDeletespoiler alert
I was not expecting that conclusion.
ReplyDeleteNot. At. All.
THE HELL WAS THAT ENDING
ReplyDeletewow, at least six comments on here and not ONE of them is about the comics.
ReplyDeleteCommenters, I am dissapoint.
this is marked as "non-fanfiction"
ReplyDeleteSurprise! You're pregnant!
ReplyDeleteVery nice story :) Well drawn too. WOuld like to see more.
ReplyDeleteY'know, I'm kinda hoping that there will be more installments of this.

ReplyDeleteBut but but but I thought Bon-Bon was the mother.
ReplyDeleteWait WHAT @ the ending. Did I miss a step? :|
ReplyDeleteThat being said, totally :3 worthy and adorable comic. Hoping to see more of this!
Well, other than some typos. Like calling Bon Bon a guy once. lol They are very cute and endearing comics. Though I wonder how Lyra got pregnant. Can't be from Bon Bon obviously. So that means she must've been already expecting before the incident.
ReplyDelete@Anonymous
ReplyDeleteYeah that was the first thing that came to my mind too
I always knew bonbon was going to be male part in that relationship
SURPRISING ENDING IS EXTREMELY UNEXPECTED.
ReplyDeleteI must see more.
Wait, what?!?
ReplyDeleteThe first five pages were heart-warmingly amazing! The watercolor artwork is perfect, and lends a dreamy, light mood to the whole story. I threw on some melancholy piano music at page two, and it complimented the story beautifully. I'm not sure that I understand the last page though. I REALLY hope there are more pages to come!
So... Lyra was raped after she was attacked? Fun comic for all.
ReplyDeleteMore please! This is getting dramatic! We should have more comics likes these!
ReplyDeleteThis was very good. Cute without being over the top. the ending was good too, if a little bit predictable by the second last part. we need more of these kinds of comics

Hmmm. It was well drawn!
ReplyDeleteCOMIC SAAAAAAAAAANS!
ReplyDeleteI... Uhhhh... What? Don't get me wrong, it's adorable. I just feel like that's cause for at LEAST another comic explaining.

ReplyDeleteThe art style was a little unusual, but still well-drawn. I get the feeling English isn't the creator's first language, though, since there were a few awkward wordings throughout the thing.
ReplyDeleteI'm getting the sense that there were some things that happened inside that house that we didn't see. :D
ReplyDeleteThat was really cute, I quite liked it.
That was cute but... that ending, why
ReplyDeleteAND PONY MAGIC CAN MAKE MARES PREGNANT TOO YOU NEIGHSAYERS
Kinda messed up for Bon-Bon to *spoiler* with a wounded Lyra. Unless...it wasn't her...*dramatic music*
ReplyDeleteI don't think this is complete yet, in which case, I'll stay tuned as if I were a pensioner in love with daytime television.
ReplyDeleteSixth also Dawwwww
ReplyDeletewait what
ReplyDeleteTypos aside, I liked this story. The plot was cute, and the art was nice. Then the ending...
ReplyDeleteI... why... wut?
Crap!
ReplyDeleteCynicism... rising...
wait wut.....
ReplyDeleteI'm okay with this.
Guys were talking about magic ponies here....I don't think there needs to be a male involved....tl:dr Magic means I don't have to explain shit!
ReplyDeleteAnd then pregnant out of nowhere!
ReplyDeleteStill a well done comic though.
I'm confused for the last part O_o She's pregnant?
ReplyDeleteWhen I first saw this I thought it was a crossover with "Mysery" novel by Stephen King. Bon Bon's face in the first page gives me fear.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad that I was wrong, I really hated that book.
"Bon-Bon, I think I'm pregnant. And YOU'RE the father!"
ReplyDeleteEnding was unexpected, in a good way. I like the art and it really needs to be continued.
ReplyDeleteThe comic isn't finished yet. That weird-ass plot twist isn't the end.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, I want to like this; the art is nice and I actually think the somewhat non-standard approach to panels is pretty cool. Problem is, the writing is an absolute mess, and the story is kind of dumb. The author isn't a native English speaker, so I feel kind of bad criticizing the writing, but it really needs some polish and quality control.
Woooah! That ending was completely unexpected!
ReplyDeleteI could've swore at page 3 that this was going to turn into bon-bon having a stuffing fetish. At least the inflation is still there.
ReplyDeletealso, inb4 lyra got raped by whatever attacked her.
@CogWeaveras i said /trollface.jpg but the story made no since, as she got amnesia and pregnant. the end.
ReplyDeleteSo much D'aww ... then a whatbwha?
ReplyDeleteTHIS NEEDS MORE CHAPTERS!!!
ReplyDeleteI think everypony else would agree with me on that...
My mind went to a dark dark place with that ending. It just begged the question "what DID happen when she was attacked?"
ReplyDeleteThe explanation for the uncontrollable magic is pregnancy; sort of like mood swings or cravings, it's magic swings. At least that is what the last comic is conveying. Also, a possible reason why Lyra was running away from something...
ReplyDeleteHoly epically long comic batman!
ReplyDeleteThis was an excellent comic and deserves more pages.
@Anonymous

ReplyDeleteSorry, it just didn't.

Ah, good ol' Lyra and Bon-Bon. I love those two.
ReplyDelete@KShrike
ReplyDeleteLike I said before, her magic outbursts are being caused by her pregnancy. And her being pregnant may have been caused by whomever attacked her and cause her to lose her memory...its pretty grim if you think about it.
The ending...as in the words of M. Night Shyamalan...WHAT A TWIST!
ReplyDeleteShe is not pregnant from what attacked her! Pony magic I say! It was her subconscious that attacked her, to get her to meet Bon Bon!
ReplyDeleteI love the expressions.
ReplyDeleteThere are quite a few comments about the English/translation.

ReplyDeleteI have never wanted to strangle a complete stranger so much in my whole life.
I don't want to think the incident that happened to Lyra is directly related to the ending..
ReplyDeleteThat was a really heartwarming, intriguing story.
ReplyDeleteSome more comics like this wouldn't go unloved
That was a nice comic, the art style was really good, (Though in a few panels Lyra's eyes looked all freaky and soulless and kind of weirded me out, but that's probably just me...) and the story was sweet as well. Don't know what to take from the ending though. Will there be more?

ReplyDeleteI will definitely say reading the entire fan comic was worth it 120%. That ending totally caught me off gaurd too but man did I enjoy reading it
ReplyDeleteGood combination of but artistic abilities as well as creative and interesting wrighting/scripting abilities.
Just... now I want to know who was attacking her. Whoever could possibly be the 'father' =X
Damn, there is something in my eye. *sniff*
ReplyDeleteit's nice, but some of the bubbles have readability issues.
ReplyDeleteSo rape, or she was already pregnant at the time of the attack. Heh. At lease the author has mentioned in the dA comments that this series is still ongoing. We might find out just who the biological father is. ...right before Bon Bon kicks him right between the goal posts. >_<

I really liked this one, beautiful artwork and interesting story. I'm really looking forward to more chapters!
ReplyDeleteThe dialog was awkward in places, but I've read enough fan translated manga and subtitles over the last couple decades to be used to it :)
I can't believe no one's commented on Bon Bon with a goatee. BON BON WITH A GOATEE, GLORIOUS.
ReplyDeleteI loved the artwork and the story is adorable.
@A Pony Farce

All in all, pretty solid.
The ending is pretty crazy. We find out Lyra wasn't just attacked, but she was brutally raped. Nice.
ReplyDeleteThat grammar was painful but the ending was.... I don't even know...
ReplyDeleteMoar plz
ReplyDelete@Abjuron Going by DA, the artist/writer is Mexican and it was translated by a Spaniard.
ReplyDeleteIt's certainly understandable why the writing is so rough, but I still wish it wasn't.
Hmmm, interesting so fa-WHAT THE FUUUUUUUUUUU...
ReplyDeleteDat ending! O.o
Both of them have creepy crazy eyes. Yikes... I kept expecting Bon-Bon to break Lyra's legs or something. :p
ReplyDelete>Pregnant
*Yawn* Yeah, uh huh, haven't seen that one five or six times before or anything...
Loved it, water color artwork made the comic serene and smooth. Plottwist caught my attention and lyra/bonbon best couple ever.

She pregnant what, who, how, why Big mac.... what in the world when down in the forrest
ReplyDeletelezbehonost i don't think she knocked up
ReplyDeleteWHY THAT ENDING
ReplyDeleteOuch, pregnant? Lyra was found wounded outside, and so traumatized she suffered amnesia.. and now it turns out she's pregnant?
ReplyDeleteIt does sound like rape. That's rather dark.
The art blew me away. Drawn out and very well done. Their relationship with one another was very adoring as well.
ReplyDelete*suddenly the ending*
Wai-What? WHAT!? So is that what happened right after? Raped? Aww man, don't leave us hanging like this. We must know what happened!
at the end I was like
ReplyDeletewat
NOOOOOO
ReplyDeleteshe got raped didn't she?
ReplyDeleteWhat happened next?
ReplyDeleteWhat a twist!
ReplyDeleteBoogita woogita whaaaaaahhh?
ReplyDeleteThat implies.... JESUSCHRISTHOWHORRIFYING.jpg
Or, y'know. She was pregnant, THEN lost her memory.
lol Big Mackintosh
ReplyDeletePre-ppp--pp-p-pre-pregnant!? Don't leave us hanging!
ReplyDelete"In fact, I think congratulations are in order... you're going to be a mother!"
ReplyDelete...PHHHOOOOEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!
Woah, that was almost dark,
ReplyDeleteFor the first few pages it was all heart warming and daww....
And then bham! We find out she is pregnant...
Now I want to see more, just so I can find out what happens next...
Dark implications are dark.
ReplyDeleteStill, don't leave us hanging!
Now I see the value in all those soap operas my mother watched.
did NOT expect that end.
ReplyDeleteDuring when Lyra is explaining what she knows of what happened to her, you can see a manticore reflected in her eye.
ReplyDeleteSo she just randomly becomes pregnant. Is the reason she ran away because she was pregnant? That would make more sense than Bon-Bon being that father (as they have no such relations in this) or that she was raped by a manticore.
ReplyDeleteHey, running away because she's pregnant is an option. Hoping to see more of this.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutly lovely, heart warming, and I didn't see that one coming for sure.
ReplyDelete*takes a suspicious look at Phoe*
Anyhow, I hope we will see more of these, Lyra & Bonbon are my favourite couple when it comes to background ponies. :)
oh gaawd!
ReplyDeleteThis makes me go conspiracy theory!
Aww! Made me d'aww so hard!! I think I need a new d'aww o meter. Moar plz ending was cute :3
ReplyDeletethis is marked as "non-fanfiction"
ReplyDeleteYeah because it's fan ART.
Ugh god. I 100% predicted that two pages in advance. I'm sorry, but this is just so predictable... it's... nice.
ReplyDeleteOh, HERE is an EVIL one...
ReplyDeleteShe wasn't raped, exactly. Worse still, her "boy"friend humped her and dumped her. She ran away over being used and rejected like that.

Beautiful comic!
ReplyDeleteHope for a suite!
I assume the story went; she was raped, she ran away out of fear and embarrassment, got lost in the forest, was attack and lost her memory.
ReplyDeleteIf loss of magic control is a common side effect of unicorn pregnancy, I don't think I want to know how much damage Twilight could cause with that.
That actually sounds like a good abstinence commercial: "Don't have sex, you just might blow up you house when to light the stove."
Thanks a lot for the comments, yes im Mexican, and my English is so bad, my translator is from Spain, and this comic is not directed by M. Night Shyamalan, and the page 6 is not the end of the comic, but will be more suspense in the comic
ReplyDeleteNice work!! i get total fascinated, this comic is awesome, the story and the pics and all ^-^
ReplyDelete*wainting for the more*
the grammar was distracting at times, but otherwise it was a nice heartwarming story. then, IMPLIED RAPE OUT OF FUCKING NOWHERE.
ReplyDeleteimokwiththis.jpg
err, just to clarify, im ok with this development of the story >_>
ReplyDeleteso yea, good job
Personally, I think babies in equestria come from magic. Seriously, there's hardly any male ponies. Either they're really busy, or magic makes the babies.
ReplyDeleteThat was nice, the end was a little odd, but still a nice comic overall.
ReplyDeleteCould use a writer to touch up the dialog. . .
ReplyDeleteThe only thing is the occasionally creepy artwork. I'm with the previous commenter who thought BonBon's first appearance looked like Misery -- I had exactly the same thought!
ReplyDeleteWonderful comic! I really didn't see it coming!
ReplyDeleteSo let me get this Strait, BonBon who is a girl, got Lyra, who also a girl, pregnant... Without even doing the deed...
ReplyDeleteIt's like the Sims 1 all over again.
those statements are too precipitated, it's an UNFINISHED WORK
ReplyDeleteoh Celestia...
ReplyDeleteWhat happens next?
ReplyDeleteI love Lyra's expression when she holds the soup in the third comic. Though I have to say that Bon-Bon's eyes kind of scare me at times in this story.
ReplyDelete153rd
ReplyDeleteNurse Redheart's eyes in her last panel.... They scare me >.< Also I liked the comic, I thought it was good.
ReplyDeleteWait so... Maybe she has a husband who is trying to find her but just gave up or something? How did this happened? xD Still a good one though..
