• Anime Expo Cosplay Meetup

What's that? People like dressing up as ponies?  I never would have guessed!

Apparently Anime Expo was overrun by these overly colorful...humans.   Compared to the other meetups I have posted, this is a pretty extreme amount of cosplaying.  Someone also went ahead and filmed everything.  Sadly the video is blurry, but you can still get a relatively good idea about what went on there.  You can find it here!

Or jump on the 49 picture photo album here!

Again, if this isn't your thing, just avoid the comments.  Some people enjoy stuff like this!

A few more random ones after the break outside of Anime Expo.

    DASHIEPIE (Convergence 2011)

Rainbow Dash Cosplay, complete with hooves

    2. Well you gotta have balls to believe you are fabulous enough to pull Rarity off.

    3. Ahaha, that's adorable, look at all the Pinkie Pies, there's some pretty good costumes here. Also, I don't wanna sound rude or anything but uh, is there a scrawny brown guy cosplaying as Pinkie? If so, that's dedication.

I'd love to see a Luna cosplay one of these days...

    6. Fluttershy is the best human.
Also, in the album, the TF2 pics made me laugh. So awesome!

    7. Is it wrong that I'm disappointed because I didn't see any Trixie cosplay?

The costumes are cool, but I would have thought there'd be someone who'd try and get a Trixie costume as well.

    13. Yay, pony cosplay! A couple of my favorite things combined to make one even more awesome one. :D I know there are some pony fursuits out there as well, since we had at least two at Anthrocon. And I'm kinda thinking of making one myself.

    14. The Anime Expo brony meetup was soooo awesome! There was a good turnout, and it was a bunch of fun. There was lots of cosplay, and we ended it by doing a winter wrap up sing along.

I'm glad to be an LA brony =)

it was great to meet everypony who showed up, looking forward to hanging out with you all again at future SoCal meetups =)

    15. I see Otakon's not the only TF2 popular anime con lol. Maybe I can provide some pictures when I go. Wish I had a decent camera though. Was gonna shoot for the one a friend has but found out it's like 2.5 grand lol.

    16. Missed it because I only went on Saturday. I did cosplay as a Cloudsdale WeatherWorks color specialist though. Lab coat and hardhat and all... it was a lot of fun.

    18. The funny thing is that there's only one person cosplaying as Rarity.

      ReplyDelete
    19. Lots of people there that shouldn't be doing cosplay.

Prepare for the EQ shitstorm of tolerance, kid

    21. I hope fellow bronies don't take this the wrong way, but my first reaction to the pictures was "Thank god, they're mostly female." That was followed by "Thank god the guys aren't in dresses."

Been to a lot of cons over the decades and one of the things that's always horrible is guys who can't pull it off dressed as female characters. It's like, no, thirty year old, hairy dude, you are not pulling off that Sailor Moon costume and I wish so, so very badly that you'd made your skirt longer. /shudder

I guess one of the nice things about ponies is they don't wear clothes, so cosplayers are completely free to make up their own outfits. A guy can make a costume recognizable as, say, Twilight Sparkle without having to wear a miniskirt and a halter top (get it? Halter? Oh, I kill me).

As for the costumes, there's a lot of very good ones. Actually, I don't remember there being any bad ones in the photos. But, I think the winner for me is the Pinkie Pie in the pink and white skirt with the stuffed Gummy. She just comes across as so Pinkie-style energetic. When I saw her I was like, "She nailed it. That's Pinkie."

Nice job on the costumes if any of you read this!

You should be allowed to express that opinion without being in fear of being lectured about why you have to tolerate everything ever.

    24. holy shit! I know the girl dressed as rainbow dash at convergence

    25. I think the Ranma in the back is the best person in costume out of the whole picture.

i mean not to rag on the pony cosplayers its just that ranma one is much better.

    26. Haha i know one of the fluttershies. she was posted on a nightly round up :3

    29. Rarity dress is pretty awesome in multiple ways.

      It's cosplay.

And a perfectly good dress. Maybe a bit too bright for formal affairs but a very striking general purpose dress.

I am disappoint at the lack of comments on that dress :|

    32. I need to know, RIGHT NOW, why glorious Dash is so under-represented in hotness.

      Plus the cutest....

      ReplyDelete
    36. @Anonymous Because she likes the character. Why else would someone dress as Rarity?

      *gives you huge-eyed innocent look*

Oh, wait, you're just annoyed it was a fat chick. Sorry, the world forgot to revolve around your clopping fantasies today. Try again tomorrow.

    38. I threw up a little when I saw this picture.

      ReplyDelete
    39. There was one girl who was cosplaying as Pinkie Pie, who I believe showed up after the photo was taken, and she did an amazing job being in character. Her voice was spot-on sound like Pinkie, she was really energetic, she could sing, and she even brought party hats, and confetti poppers, and candy =)

      ReplyDelete
    40. @Lysana

Clever. When in doubt assume I fap to ponies. It was because she's fat, but it's because I'm shallow, not due to any fantasies.

      ReplyDelete
    41. Oh my, 5 Pinkie Pies and 1 Pinkamena Dianne Pie. lol

      ReplyDelete
    42. @TehTrojanPony

Yeah that was the best pinkie pie ever. i even got a picture of her holding the lancer, best picture ever

    43. So long as everyone is cosplaying as a character of their gender and bodysize its cool.

That one old pic with the RD and DW and the RD had facial hair was wrong.

      ReplyDelete
    44. @Lysana

Its not a matter of fap material, but doing a non-fat character when you are big is a bit of a injustice to the character and or the artist who created it. But no one whose reasonable would fault a big person for cosplaying a big character because thats actually suitable and/or accurate.

You can still be a hot or toned person and do a character injustice too depending on the construction of the costume.

      ReplyDelete
    45. It always makes me sad how the comments always devolve into "how dare fat people have fun where I can see them" rather than "hey cool, look at all the people who love ponies enough to dress up!" Especially for cosplay of this show, which is about friendship and acceptance.

Great pictures, I am impressed by the army of ponies!

      ReplyDelete
    46. For human cuteness, Applejacks took the cake.
For being in character, the aforementioned party-favor Pinkie Pie made the cake (although every fluttershy was in-character)
With complete bias -- 3 awesome big macs
A Rainbow Dash came later on roller blades, nice touch.
Best shot taken was Rainbow Dashes worshipping a Wonderbolt

Also, fun fact: one guy in internet troll mask was trying to slip into background of group shots the whole time and apparently failed from what pics I have seen posted.

We had no Trixies, princesses, or chickens, though~

      ReplyDelete
    47. Who is the random dude in the back supposed to be? He just looks like a dude who jumped in and was all "so many colorful wimmens."

      ReplyDelete
    48. I like how people are told in the post itself to stay out of the comments if you don't care for the pictures, but still they write up a comment about how fat people are ugly and are somehow 'disrespecting' cosplay.

      ReplyDelete
    49. @Anonymous

That reply wasn't directed at anyone in the picture,

      ReplyDelete
    50. @Anonymous
So someone who worked hard on the costume and did it in a manner to compliment her body type is disrespecting a character?
Well then, I guess everyone who is plus-sized should give up and cosplay as fat ponies.

Really, it's additudes like that that take the fun out of cosplaying.

I'm the one who hosted the meetup, that's my photobucket album with all the shots, and I'm close friends with that Rarity.

At any rate, the turnout was amazing and everyone who attended was awesome. We had a Rainbow Dash giving out trivia questions along with prizes, a party Pinkie Pie, and our own little TF2/Brony hang out. You all were great and I hope the SoCal meetup goes just as well.
I didn't get a lot of shots with folks outside my group and the gathering since I'm only one person and was usually in one spot so I apologize.
If you have any other shots of ponies I missed, please let me know and I'll be sure to add them.

Also, I'm putting in my Facebook in my url in case you attended so I can tag you in the other pictures I have up there.
((Excuse my current profile picture, it was a bit of a dare.))

    51. @Anonymous

Random dude from the back row here.
I was going as Rarity, dyed my hair purple and everything, but since the shoot was inside (with poor lighting), my hair looks blackish. Had some cutie mark pins on my collar and flank to represent.
Wore fancy clothes because Rarity = fancy.

      ReplyDelete
    52. I have to toss my two cents in... Rarity obviously made her dress, and it is AMAZING. And just to point out the obvious, they're all cosplaying a character with a different body type, since the original characters are candy ponies. Also that Rarity isn't fat. She's curvy in all the right places.

      ReplyDelete
    53. Your gonna tell me no one went as Big Mac? I am so going as him for Halloween! And maybe even an anime convention lol.

      ReplyDelete
    54. Spike cosplayer with ridicolously large mustache.

      Epic win xD

    55. Oooh ooh, the two at convergence are friends of mine, I wasn't there unfortunately, but a week later we were at animinneapolis so there will probably be more pictures up soon... I forgot to take any though; but lots of other people did though

Me and some friends are planning to throw a MLP:FiM room party (assuming the con lets us)at Anime Detour as well as various other shenanigans. still in the process of getting the party registered though; if we run in to difficulties with them letting us, I hope all the bronies out there will support us.
