ReplyDeleteTags: Rainbow Dash, Shipping, Vinyl Scratch, Complete.
ReplyDeleteQuite possibly the best combination of tags in existence.
Hopefully the story matches the expectations.

ReplyDeleteThe tags could perhaps be better with some combination of Octavia, Soarin', and Spitfire. But I'm pretty partial to Vinyl/Dash.
It's an absolute wonderful read. It's from the same author who did the TwiLuna fic "Spark". I look forward to more from Avery Strange.
ReplyDeleteI fangasm'd so hard when I went through the prereader queue and saw a Vinyldash fic. And this didn't disappoint. Definitely looking forward to finishing up the last couple chapters tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteVery nice read. Thoroughly enjoyed it, although I once again notice that coming out is still apparently much easier in Equestria. Eh, that's par for the course, though.
ReplyDelete@ToonNinja
ReplyDeleteTo be expected in a society with (what appears to be) a 75% female population.
@Daffodil
ReplyDeleteTouché. Actually, I could use that...
Dat Ending,
ReplyDeleteI saw that coming. Very nicely done.
oh how i enjoy reading a well written story that throws a few surprises but still gives the nice little twists that are key to an enjoyable read.
I saw the Twilight move coming from early on and I thought you were going to explore that a bit more, but I'm really glad you concentrated on the main plot you laid down :) I have a hard time doing that myself. Great job!
ReplyDeleteReally enjoyed the way you wrote Scratch here. She's fun! Not to mention how nicely the Fluttershy issue was handled. Nice to see something other than 'and then they all fell in love' for a shipping fic, no?
ReplyDeleteAnother great fic.
ReplyDeleteGreat story, love the epilogue, find it interesting that some of RD's loyalty seems to have rubbed off on fluttershy (and i love that she pulled the stare out at the end xD again)
ReplyDeleteSqueeee!
ReplyDeleteOkay, got that done. I have a hard problem with writing shipping myself, particularly if there's a sex theme attached. This was excellently written, however. You kept it to the primary story arc. You DIDN'T have her dump Vinyl for Fluttershy, which I see a lot of in coming out stories. You hinted at what actually goes on in their relationship rather than go graphic. You took her 'laziness' characteristic and used it very effectively at the start to lead in to the main story. You used the entire mane cast effectively. I like how you justified Rarity and Applejack's reactions. And it had a happy ending, which always earns points with me.
I think the one thing that gets me with this story, and all RD fics, is that she must be shipped. Some day I'd like RD to say "No, I'm not interested in him, I'm not interested in her, I'm not interested in any pony right now!" But that's just me. Definitely 5 stars from me.
Fantastic read. It did have Vinyl Scratch AND Rainbow Dash, though. Might be an awesome overload.
ReplyDeleteI tend to avoid shipping fics, but this one was great. You kept the mane six accurately, in my opinion, which is hard to do.
This is the First "RD coming out"story that made sense to me. Usually I can't help but think "Dash would be braver than that!" but her freak out struck me as completely within character.
ReplyDelete>inb4 someone adds "And then they all f*****" as an addendum to the epilogue.
I really do think was a great story. I loved the ending, but it just leaves me wanting a little more. So many strings are left open, that there could definitely be a sequel if the author felt like it, but not enough to where it ends badly. Great Story!
ReplyDeleteI loved this so much. It was sweet, a little sad at times, and funny when it wanted to be. Everyone was written very well in character - even Scratch is how, at least, I'd imagine her. I've also gotta give you props for writing the friction between Fluttershy and Dash. I see a lot of writers just have all of the mane six be okay with whoever's coming out almost instantly, and it was nice to see a little bit of conflict written in (especially with Fluttershy being the one who isn't so quick to forgive). The ending was fantastic, too. It tied everything together, and left the door open for a continuation if anyone ever feels like writing it.
ReplyDeleteJust... do us a favor. If you write a companion piece, don't make it like To Be an Alicorn. I like this ending as happy as it is.
Full stars.
Bravo! Vinyl Scratch interpreted amazingly!
ReplyDelete5 stars from me.
♥
Ah, Avery, you never cease to amaze me.
ReplyDeleteI think everyone saw Twilight as a fillyfooler. What is your next fic going to be? Luna please?
ReplyDeleteLove this, love this so SO much.
ReplyDeleteRainbow Scratch (or Vinyl Dash) is officially my favorite ship now!
ReplyDeleteAlso, Vinyl Scratch is now my top favorite (not-really-a) background pony! She is so cool!
I would love to meet someone like her in real life!
Anyway, truly great story! 5/5 from me!
This was a masterpiece in my opinion. I generally don't read much fanfic. This might have changed my perspective.
ReplyDeleteEverything just fit so well in-character. In the few other fanfics I've read, there was some strange out-of-character behavior that broke the immersion for me. I was a little disappointed that Applejack took it so well, I always envisioned her as more "traditional". It wasn't distracting though.
To be honest this is one of the most memorable shipfics I've had the pleasure to read, this will definatly be one that stands out in my mind, and trust me I've read ALOT of shipfics. Anyway you were spot on with all the ponie's personalities, and I love what you did with Scratch. You managed to keep a very good flow throughout the story while also keeping it imersive and compelling. I also have to admit the Dawwww factor was amazing, I practicaly flet like I was about to burst out into tears at some points in the story. The set up was also a very nice feature, you told a very well thought out story complete with a great prologue, foreshadowing, lots of drama (which is a good thing), great grammar, and many other literary devices I don't feel like listing. The epilogue was also a bit surprising... but I'll be damned if I didn't lol at the very ending. All in all this is a grad A++ story, and you sir have a tallent. Please do continue writing, and I will be looking foward to your next fic!
ReplyDeletei don't normally like this kind of stuff but this was really good
ReplyDeleteThis was great. Nice characterization throughout, and you built a good tower off of the canon personalities (I was sweating bullets when Dash confronted Applejack).
ReplyDelete5/5.
Meh, scratch was abusive and a total douchebag and dash should've left her for fluttershy. This was a bit of a disappointment. Once someone does any kind of domestic violence, they'll do it again. And again. What did scratch do? She hit rainbow dash out of anger. What did fluttershy do? She was there to take care of rainbow dash from the blow. Nuff said
ReplyDeleteThis story contraducts itself. Everyone in the story is happy for rainbow for finally finding out what "love" is. But i dont think love has anything to do with hitting your "loved" one when u think they might like someone else. When scratch found out rainbow might like someone else she hit her. When fluttershy found out she might like someone else she didn't take out any anger on anyone, and in fact helped rainbow dash woth the wound scratch had caused, she should have been with fluttershy. Rainbow was practically abused into staying with scratch. This makes me sick
ReplyDelete@Anonymous & @Anonymous
ReplyDeleteThat isn't what happened in the story, and I can't understand why you would even come to that conclusion.
Yeah, I felt the smack was well earned. It's not that Scratch thought Rainbow Dash just "liked someone else", it was that she thought Dash had simply _used_ her as a convenient target to divert her real affection for someone else. Scratch genuinely loved Dash but thought Dash had only been leading her on for selfish reasons. That's gotta hurt way more than a hoof upside the head.
ReplyDeleteOf course, this being MLP, everything works out okay in the end and all the hurt and misunderstanding is soothed. I liked it.
Does it bother anypony else that 90% of the shipping is either fillyfooling or coltcoddling?
ReplyDeleteI mean, there are plenty of straight guys in the brony fandom. It doesn't help our case with the fanfic collection being what it is.
But I guess that doesn't matter. Regardless, this is a good fic.
Wow, epic reference to "The Best Night Ever" Dashfire fic.
ReplyDeleteBeautifully done. The relationship is well-developed and very believable, and man, I'm a sucker for happy endings.
ReplyDeleteBravo!
Also, I suddenly have a desire to become a DJ...
ReplyDeleteGreat story loved it any one else notice the daft punk reference I think?
ReplyDeleteThat was beautiful. I absolutely love how this story handles the concept of the mane six discovering one of them is a lesbian.
ReplyDeleteFluttershy was adorable. I found her reactions the most emotional, both heartwrenching and heartwarming. And I have to admit, I thought Angel was awesome.
The bedroom argument and resolution was brilliantly done. That is some really great writing.
I'm disappointed in Pinkie Pie. Her prank seemed awfully mean. Especially since she didn't put proper thought into it. But I loved her reaction outside the club.
Aah! Twist! I hate when that happens...
ReplyDeleteOne of the best Vinyl/Dash fics I've ever read, and I've read a LOT of them haha.
ReplyDeleteFor people who are looking for more Vinyl Dash, after reading this amazing story, read Turntable Turnabout, another great Story
MOAR!!!!!
ReplyDeleteLoved it, found it just a little conforming to a firm storyline and thought a little more superfluous character building "life" might have been in order. It felt rushed, however I am one for long reads.
