Author: The Descendant
Description:“They take da’ pain out, make it somethin’ good, somethin’ good. Wear yer’ blues well, colt, you gonna earn every drop of em’. Yer’ gonna be tangled up in blues”, the old stallion told Blues, presenting him with the saxophone.Tangled Up in Blues Chapter 1: The Manehattan Blues
Blues himself tells us of his life after that day and as he explores what it means to be “painted blue”; to hope, to fear, to love, to lose. He tells us as he learns what really makes a stallion a stallion, what it’s like to leave something you love behind, and what risks one must face in life or risk becoming nothing at all.
All of this, Blues tells us, takes place against the background of critical moments in his life and as he travels the scope of Equestria from Manehattan to Ponyville and Appleoosa. All the while the songs he learns from his pain mingle with the one his mentor, Moody Blues, revealed within him…something unbelievable the old pony did to bring it forth.

As much as how easy it would be to copypaste my comment from Deviantart, I'll avoid being so prose this time around.
VastaKustutaIf you were thinking about reading this fic, read it. Yes, it's a long one (96 pages!!), but the style of The Descendant will keep you hooked until you've read the last chapter. You will be near tears, you might grin slightly at some of the corny jokes (and the good ones?), but, most importantly, reading this will not, in any way, be a waste of your precious time.
If a drawfriend out there has the desire to participate in this month's Friend-Off but has not chosen a story to base a picture off of, might I suggest Tangled Up in Blues?
the blues ponies!
VastaKustuta96 pages?
VastaKustutaAlright. Here we go!
Alright, even though I'd prefer to see LunaxMe ship (lol, jk... or am I?), who's for LunaxBlues?
VastaKustutaShiiiit would be so caaaaaash!
Wow... I'm gonna need to schedule a day for this. Maybe two.
VastaKustuta@Anonymous
VastaKustutaI thought that already happened?
Would love to see it again, though.
Reading this and listening to Blues just makes this one hell of a read.
VastaKustutaReading the last chapter while listening to As the years go passing by Gary Moore gave me goose bumps.
This is a truly wonderful story; it's amazingly well-written and knows how to handle its clichés. I recommend this to everyone, everywhere, always.
VastaKustutaMAN that was amazing!!!
VastaKustutaI loved the repeating themes most of all :D
This story is so stylish! You should become a published author.
VastaKustutaThis is really great. I'm only on the second chapter, and I'm loving it so far.
VastaKustutaPlease tell me there is a secret button I can push that will give this story an unassailable 7 star rating!!! This story was a faultless thing of beauty, I absolutely loved this! I could rave on for ages but I will never be able to convey feelings and ideas as powerfully and fluently as you.
VastaKustutaThat's the first time I've ever cried while reading a book. Thank you Sethisto. I enjoyed that through teary eyes.
VastaKustutaBeautiful. Totally beautiful. More detailed comment to follow when I haven't stayed up reading far past my bedtime; goodnight. And thank you.
VastaKustutaI love this story, I almost cried as I read the last bits of chapter seven. If anyone ever tells me that fanfiction is drivel that is not worth anyone's time, I will point them to this. Thank you for writing this.
VastaKustutaA lot of stories can make me cry--and not the 'manly tears' people talk about, but great wracking sobs. Very few, however, are actually heartwarming to me, and this is one of those quiet stories, for all of the misfortune in it. Thanks.
VastaKustutaIncredible. That is the only word that comes to mind after reading this. Thank you.
VastaKustutaThis is a seriously powerful heart-rending and -warming story that deserves a lot more attention than this. It oughta be freaking 6-starred by now, with a comments page longer than the story itself!
VastaKustutaIn many ways, "Tangled Up in Blues" is a textbook example of a high-class fanfic. It tells the story of one of the anonymous background characters, literally giving Blues a life that accounts for all his canonical appearances without undercutting his own story. Another point is that the story does not over-use the Mane Cast (a common error in OC fanfics), only showing them when and where their lifepaths crossed that of Blues.
VastaKustutaI-I'm not crying. I've just got something in my eye...
VastaKustutaThis is another one that needs to be bumped up to Star-6. That's... all I gotta say about that.
VastaKustutaOh Celestia. Oh Luna.
Definitely a six star. It really tugs at your heartstrings as you witness the growth and experiences of Blues as he goes on with life. A fic that you ought to spare some quite time reading.
VastaKustutaThat was probably the best story i have ever read on this site. I love it more than Fallout: Equestria and It's a Dangerous Buisness going out your door.
VastaKustutaThis story caused me to break into tears. Everything about it was so unbelievably fantastic that i hate myself for skipping over it all those times.
It needs to be six stared. I have never seen a more deserving story.
If anyone ends up reading this comment, especially someone who has never read this before...
Please take some time out of your schedule to read this. You will not be disappointed.
If you're looking for a story. You've come to the wrong fanfic.
VastaKustutaIf you're looking for love, thrown across sheets. If you're looking after emotions, smeared across papper.
If you're looking for anything worth six stars? this story is for you.
Dude, I'm shedding manly tears right here. Utterly beautiful, wonderful, emotional story. Well done
VastaKustuta*throws bits* "You poor bastard."
VastaKustuta"I hate myself for skipping over it all those times." Me too.
Great story. You have style.
It is an absolute crime that this story doesn't have more comments on it. As a musician, blues lover, and full-time loser (aren't we all, really?), this story hit me deep and hard. I know the feelings Blues experiences at the end, finding what you're truly meant for, and more than anything, how your music speaks for you when words just won't suffice.
VastaKustutaI have to pull out my guitar now...
This is an absoultly beautifull story and it's a shame it doesn't have more attention directed towards it.
VastaKustutaaaight, now i want to play harp, brb
