B) Rainbow Dash wants to learn how to cook, but is completely inept at it. Write a story about her attempts to either learn to cook in general, or to make a specific food item.
You have exactly two hours. No late entries, whatsoever. Send all entries, in Docs format preferably, to [email protected].
We got the mark! All units, engage engage engage! Gold group, take the right flank! Red and blue group, head up the middle while green group provides distanced fire support! Yellow group, see if you can't do something about the enemy craft in the skies! Silver group on subterranean special ops, try to get those main cannons offline. Move it out!
Just to be clear on the time schedule, what timezone does this site run on? Because if this means 6 PM in America, I won't be able to compete on account that is would be 3 in the morning here in Europe.
This isn't as hard as I was worried it would be. Quick question before I hit "send":
Is it okay for us to do what some people do for the newbie drawing things, and do an intricate plot that has nothing to do with cooking, and then just slip
"and while she was out, she tried to learn how to make cookies and failed seventeen times in a row before they came out well"
Eh, I brainstormed for half an hour and came up bone dry. It sucks being a perfectionist when all you can come up with are lame Skittles references and unoriginal been there, done that stuff.
Good luck to everyone who's still writing! Keep it up!
I've never wrote a ponyfic before, but something simple and fun like this is... uh, fun. I'm whipping some dialogue and gags up and it's neat. I'm not expecting to win anything, obviously, but hopefully someone smiles. Or something.
Well, I know I'm not going to stand out amongst the crowd if one person has written four pages in an hour and still hasn't reached the main plot point. Mine's a pathetic three-pager with the remarkably clever name "Recipe for Disaster".
damn, i missed it because i was reading other fics! curse you, and curse this timezone for confusing me! ah well, now i have an alternate e-mail and google docs should i decide to start writing now...
I was considering participating, but i decided i wanted to see how this worked out first and was gonna do it if there was another one after this. i didnt really think to check it the moment it started cuz i wasnt gonna do it and now i see it and it's too easy; my writing style is based on making it up as i go along but basing it around a general idea and a few fixed events i intend to include, id be perfect at this. too late now though.
(1st draft) Crap -_- (2nd draft) Worse crap =_= (3rd draft) Utter crap >_< (4th draft) STEAMING PILE X_X (starting 5th draft) Oh, look. 20 minutes left... Well good luck to everyone with actual writing skills. Let's hope the next prompt will be easier to work with...
maybe next time there should be a timer on the site to stop us from missing the event like foals... 20 minutes left, ive got basicly nothing and now my food is here. aww... good job to those who made it though, look forward to reading your's.
I hope there's some where Rainbow is trying to make overly complicated fancy high society food items that come out decent; or something simple like toast or popcorn that tastes like complete crap and everyone hates it.
Or you know, Rainbow Dash attempting to make "Fluttershy's Silly Face Pizza". Oh Celestia If I had my head out of my plot and remembered about this event I would have done that.
Mine's probably nothing out of the ordinary, but it was fun to try and write a story out of that prompt. Finished with half an hour left to go and spent the last 15 minutes thinking of a cheesy title for my overly boring and completely generic fic'.
May I suggest next time making the two-hour window longer? A lot of bronies are disappointed that they'll be at work/asleep while this is open :/.
"SOAREN I MADE YOU THIS APPLE PIE CAN I BE A WONDERBOLT NOW" "OH MY CELESTIA YES AND WE CAN ALSO GET MARRIED" "WAIT WH-" and then they had a million babies FOR THE EMPEROR
My entry is soooo bad. That was fun though! I definitely want to do this again! I sent it in with only a couple minutes to spare too, so no time for editing. I have a haunting feeling I just made myself look like such a fool, hahaha!
I get that we can't have the late entries in a contest, but could they maybe be posted anyways? Looks like we have several of those and, not gonna lie, I want to here 1500 words written in 10 minutes.
I'm gonna be honest... I almost wrote out a pinkie/dash cooking fic. I almost did... but then I thought; "how could I make this story unique?" So, I decided to go with Twilight! Yeah, she's surely got some books on cooking right? But then I thought other people would get the same idea... and decided to go deeper. That's when I saw Spike...
Planning? What is this... "planning" you speak of?
:P
But yeah, I couldn't actually come up with a plot I liked, so I just started writing and played it completely straight. Dash tries to cook, blows up things. And any questions I started asking myself I went back and answered.
I wish I could've done something interesting with motivations and suchlike, yea.
I am giving you three thumbs of glorious praise and a manly tear of commendation. You are a gentleman and a scholar and I wish you luck with life's journey.
I am really, REALLY proud of what I wrote. Not that it's, like, the next Odyssey or anything, but... you'll see. I finished my draft about twelve seconds before the bell rang (figuratively speaking, of course), sent the Dox link to Cereal before I was done LIKE A BUCKING BOSS, and spent the last four hours revising/editing. Ow my head, it literally hurts. Cereal Velocity, whose real name I don't know, if you are reading this then keep reading. I know I sent you an email, but in case you just skimmed that, let me thank you legitimately, personally, and publicly for overseeing this event. I can't imagine how hard it'll be to sift through that China-sized wall of text (Lol, wordplay), and that you did it purely as a communial labor of love. Also, I'm not exaggerating when I say you may have rekindled my interest in writing prose, and since I'm a teen who wants to be a writer when I grow up... well, ten years from now, just look on the shelves for anything by J.P. Mason. That's my alias. Toodles!

Good luck, all.
ReplyDeleteDo you have to have entered previously, or put your name down, or something? Or can anyone write something and send it in?
ReplyDeleteAlso I have to say, the prompt thing is pretty clever, no cheaters this time!
ReplyDelete@The Linker

ReplyDeleteMan, I'm actually around for this, and I STILL can't do it! I can't get a single decent story out of this prompt!
ReplyDeleteHaha, just the other day I was playing with the idea that Dash is a terrible cook!
ReplyDeleteI eagerly await whatever comes out of this. I hope it's edible.
Okey, got a brilliant idea that works with my continuity.
ReplyDeleteHere i GO
I was considering trying but...
ReplyDeleteI can't write Dash for manure.
Will you accept a fic written in script form?
ReplyDeleteI've got a story planned out. I won't lose this time.
ReplyDeleteJust to be clear on the time schedule, what timezone does this site run on? Because if this means 6 PM in America, I won't be able to compete on account that is would be 3 in the morning here in Europe.

ReplyDeleteThis would be easier if I actually knew how to cook ANYTHING.
ReplyDeleteSpeedfic challenge about Rainbow Dash cooking, or how many Cupcake references can I make in an hour.
ReplyDelete@Sunlight Gleam
ReplyDeleteHere.Have 80 bits.
checking currebt time ignore me
ReplyDeleteAlready two pages in. I'm hoping I can find a way to decently end this before 7:45.
ReplyDeleteThis isn't as hard as I was worried it would be. Quick question before I hit "send":
ReplyDeleteIs it okay for us to do what some people do for the newbie drawing things, and do an intricate plot that has nothing to do with cooking, and then just slip
"and while she was out, she tried to learn how to make cookies and failed seventeen times in a row before they came out well"
in somewhere?
Because if we can't, I need to change my outline.
wait, what timezone is this?
ReplyDeleteFFFFFFFFUUUUU. I missed it, I can't write a whole fic in 20 minutes.
ReplyDeleteUmm...it's 6:42 pst. There's a lot of time left.
ReplyDeleteOne hour and eighteen minutes remain!
ReplyDeleteGOOGLE DOCS, not Word Docs!
@TDTwix
ReplyDeleteYou have an hour and twenty minutes. I'm already about 2/3rds done on mine, and I'm taking a break to check ED! Try it out. Hard mode.
Damn, missed it
ReplyDeletegetting a time (zone) check.
ReplyDeleteHopefully my internet doesn't cause me to be late.
Ahh, so far looks like what I have is turning out better-than-expected.jpg.
ReplyDeleteHopefully the quality of what I have won't plummet within the next 75 minutes.
WHY 2 HOURS d:<< WHYY
ReplyDeleteEh, I brainstormed for half an hour and came up bone dry. It sucks being a perfectionist when all you can come up with are lame Skittles references and unoriginal been there, done that stuff.
ReplyDeleteGood luck to everyone who's still writing! Keep it up!
Goddangit! I can't believe I missed this!
ReplyDeleteFFFFFFFFFFFFF-
ReplyDeleteCurse you Spiral Knights and your distracting me from timed events.
I think I'm kinda screwed on this one. Ah well.
Finished :D I wish the rest of you good luck! Been up for more than 23 hours and I'm finally getting some sleep :3 Bai now!
ReplyDeleteHuh? Okay. My clock says 9, but the time on the previous post says 6, so I'm going to assume I missed it.
ReplyDeleteOh, wait. time zone. derp 9_6
ReplyDeleteOne hour and four minutes left!
ReplyDeleteThis is Cereal, just on his iPad.
What?! Oh crap! I missed the start Umm... umm... umm... alright... I don't know if I still have time, but I will try!
ReplyDeleteI sent mine! Mine is very short and boring.. but I always enjoy doing fanfics xD
ReplyDeleteI've never wrote a ponyfic before, but something simple and fun like this is... uh, fun. I'm whipping some dialogue and gags up and it's neat. I'm not expecting to win anything, obviously, but hopefully someone smiles. Or something.
ReplyDeleteShame that it's time for a family movie...Kill Bill.
ReplyDeleteAh well. I wouldn't have been able to write anything for this prompt anyway.
Good luck to all the participants, though!
I should note that I've never READ a ponyfic, either. I'm going in so blind it's not even funny.
ReplyDelete@The Linker
ReplyDeleteGoing in blind is fun.
Crap, four pages and I haven't even gotten to the baking part yet. I really need to hurry up. I just hope transferring it to google Docs isn't hard.
ReplyDeleteMy title, "Rainbow Dash and Cupcakes"
ReplyDeleteDangit! I forgot all about this! Ah, well. Good luck to all who participated!
ReplyDeleteWell, I know I'm not going to stand out amongst the crowd if one person has written four pages in an hour and still hasn't reached the main plot point. Mine's a pathetic three-pager with the remarkably clever name "Recipe for Disaster".
ReplyDelete@Mournblade
ReplyDeleteYou and me both, sister.
The email won't work. please help?
ReplyDeleteit'll be super interesting to see how this turns out.
ReplyDeletenevermind, got it
ReplyDeleteDone with three pages. I played it completely straight, so no silly references or strange twists. Can you handle how vanilla this fic is?
ReplyDeleteI know I can.
This was fun, I hope we do some more of these in the future. I'm off to play video games and paint.
Shit, I actually managed to pull it off...
ReplyDeletedamn, i missed it because i was reading other fics! curse you, and curse this timezone for confusing me!
ReplyDeleteah well, now i have an alternate e-mail and google docs should i decide to start writing now...
ReplyDeleteI feel proud of what I have written, best of luck to everyone that entered.
ReplyDeleteWhooaaa this was totally worth it (writing the story)
ReplyDeleteIts actually 3am Sunday here :D
Writing with these limitations did put me under some stress, cause i'm not a good or fast writer.
Going to bed now :P
Finished in an hour.
ReplyDeleteLIKE A BOSS
I had a couple good ideas, but nothing solid. Oh well, I try again next time. Please do this again!
ReplyDeleteHalf an hour left and I haven't started.
ReplyDeleteLET'S DO THIS!
Well, finished and sent it with thirty minutes to spare.
ReplyDeleteThis speedfic challenge was really fun. Hopefully you can host another one again sometime! =D
This was interesting. An hour and a half to crank out a few hopefully humorous pages.
ReplyDelete(1st draft) Crap -_-
ReplyDelete(2nd draft) Worse crap =_=
(3rd draft) Utter crap >_<
(4th draft) STEAMING PILE X_X
(starting 5th draft) Oh, look. 20 minutes left... Well good luck to everyone with actual writing skills. Let's hope the next prompt will be easier to work with...
maybe next time there should be a timer on the site to stop us from missing the event like foals... 20 minutes left, ive got basicly nothing and now my food is here. aww...
ReplyDeletegood job to those who made it though, look forward to reading your's.
Oh Celestia, I forgot about this. Have good idea, don't think I can get it to paper and in the proper voice in 20 minutes.
ReplyDelete> cooking
ReplyDelete> Rainbow Dash
> speed
Who wants to place bets on how many Cereal Velocity puns this exercise produces?
Just sent my entry in. I write poorly when I am under pressure and have a short time limit so mine is pretty bad.
ReplyDeleteGAH, that was difficult!
ReplyDeleteHow do we know if you received it?
I hope there's some where Rainbow is trying to make overly complicated fancy high society food items that come out decent; or something simple like toast or popcorn that tastes like complete crap and everyone hates it.
ReplyDeleteOr you know, Rainbow Dash attempting to make "Fluttershy's Silly Face Pizza". Oh Celestia If I had my head out of my plot and remembered about this event I would have done that.
Me: Yes! With 15 minutes to spare, I got a 2,500 word story out! And no grimdark to it at all! Fluttershy, give me a Hell Yeah!
ReplyDeleteFluttershy: yay
Me: Ah yeah! =)
Finished with 15 minutes left! :D That was fun!
ReplyDeleteI got mine in. I ended up submitting twice because I realized they wanted links. It's too damn late here. I'm going to bed.
ReplyDeleteFinished as well. 2650 in 90 minutes. Now the question is... is it any good?
ReplyDeleteMine sucks, but it was a nice challenge. Can't wait to read the rest.
ReplyDeleteMeh, I doubt I'll finish mine in time. If I had had the other hour, I probably could have. Still going to finish it though. AND PROOFREAD!
ReplyDeleteCrud, I forgot about this too. Hopefully there will be another one.
ReplyDeleteAlthough I don't think I would have been able to do much with the prompt anyway; I'm not that good at improv.
>Remember Speedfic was happening seventy-five minutes into it.
ReplyDelete>Rage.
>Write.
Finished mine, sent in. Hope it's not late! 'Apple Folly'.
ReplyDeleteHoly crap guys.
ReplyDeleteYou ponies are full of words!
Ten minutes left!
Finished. Probably crappy, but I finished
ReplyDeleteand...done. Just under 1100 words. Short-n-sweet.
ReplyDeletefinally finished. Now I can go pee.
ReplyDeleteMine's probably nothing out of the ordinary, but it was fun to try and write a story out of that prompt. Finished with half an hour left to go and spent the last 15 minutes thinking of a cheesy title for my overly boring and completely generic fic'.
ReplyDeleteMay I suggest next time making the two-hour window longer? A lot of bronies are disappointed that they'll be at work/asleep while this is open :/.
I'm just glad I didn't miss it. I wasted almost 15 minutes looking on the wrong page for the prompt.
ReplyDeleteIN UNDER THE WIRE! Fastest 2000 words I ever wrote, edited, and revised.
ReplyDeleteSent it in, now I can let my heart calm down.
ReplyDeleteI hope I sent mine in on time.
ReplyDeleteI DID IT! WHOOOOOO!!!
ReplyDeleteHmm...definitely not gonna finish in 5 minutes, soooo....this'll be a normal fic now. Oh well.
ReplyDeleteFINALLY!
ReplyDeleteNearly 2 hours of nonstop typing.... ugh, I hope my story does well x.x
*Pant-pant*....MADE IT!
ReplyDeleteNot very long, but I'm pleased with the results.
And now I can relax with some...more fic writing.
LIKE. A. BAWSS.
PHEW! Just finished mine and sent it I hope it goes through ok! It is five pages long so I hope it isn't to big.
ReplyDelete"SOAREN I MADE YOU THIS APPLE PIE CAN I BE A WONDERBOLT NOW"
ReplyDelete"OH MY CELESTIA YES AND WE CAN ALSO GET MARRIED"
"WAIT WH-"
and then they had a million babies
FOR THE EMPEROR
(this counts, right?)
>mfw everyone's proofreading, editing, revising their story, when I just sent in my first draft thinking it was good enough
ReplyDeletexD
Just sent mine! :P Damned Hotmail crashed on me!
ReplyDeleteDone and sent. Phew.
ReplyDeleteWhew! With 3 minutes to spare!
ReplyDeleteMy story is... interesting. We'll see how this turns out.
DRAT! I didn't get it done in time :( Im only half way done
ReplyDelete@FRiNKEL
ReplyDeleteI proofread mine while I typed it.
Done. Boy this is going to be awful
ReplyDeleteEVENT IS OVER
ReplyDeletePENCILS DOWN
THAT WAS SO DIFFICULT DEAR GOD WHY
ReplyDeleteDone. Rushed last paragraph and the format is disgusting. Next time I should type it up in Google Docs, instead of pasting from Word.
ReplyDeleteSent it about two minutes ago. Hope I was on time...
ReplyDelete*Puts quill down*
ReplyDeleteWow, I was like the last one to submit it. Just like me to procrastinate.
Woot! So.. ah... ahem... when will we know who won? >.> <.< >.>
ReplyDeleteJust saying...
Doone. Some 989 words of Pinkie Pie and Rainbow Dash banter.
ReplyDelete'Cause that's what I like. Banter.
I'll actually read my first fics, now, to see what a winner for something like this looks like. :D
>write for all 2 hours
ReplyDelete>agonize over every sentence
>only get about 500 words
>nowhere near done
I *may* have missed the point of this exercise.
Contest is over.. *heart thumps*
ReplyDeleteI hope I did ok! >.<
Wow, what a rush. I mean my beating heart.
ReplyDeleteI hope I made it.
^This
ReplyDeleteExcept when there were 10 minutes left, I crapped out about 1500 words and called it a story.
I was in a rush and finally sent the email at 8:03. Is that too late? I read "no late entries whatsoever."
ReplyDeleteDAMN IT I think I was too late.
ReplyDeleteSweet Celestia! That was intense! I wish all my fellow writers the best! That was challenging and fun!
ReplyDelete@FRiNKEL
ReplyDeleteWoo lack of proofreading!
Played completely straight, and yea, hope it makes someone smile!
Congratulations to those who finished! I didn't, but it's a solid premise and I think I'll turn it into an actual polished fic instead. :)
ReplyDeleteMy entry is soooo bad.
ReplyDeleteThat was fun though! I definitely want to do this again!
I sent it in with only a couple minutes to spare too, so no time for editing.
I have a haunting feeling I just made myself look like such a fool, hahaha!
3 minutes late is late. Sorry kiddo. Absolutely no late entries accepted!
ReplyDeleteWhew! Showed up late, pounded out 600 words in 40 minutes anyway. That was more fun than it probably should have been.
ReplyDeleteI definitely want to do this kind of thing again. That was a lot of fun. :)
ReplyDeleteI get that we can't have the late entries in a contest, but could they maybe be posted anyways? Looks like we have several of those and, not gonna lie, I want to here 1500 words written in 10 minutes.
ReplyDeleteDAMN! ONE FREAKING SECOND LATE! My story wasn't very good, anyway. I really stank at it.
ReplyDeleteDamn, that was intense...
ReplyDeleteBlah, And RD was going to help from Rarity when The time was up-- we were ALMOST to the part about cooking. x__x
ReplyDeleteThis iwll never get finished, but I'll certainly do the next one.
Y'all can comment if you want to lookover/takeover it.
Lol, and exactly 100 Words
ReplyDelete(-Black Tea)
* exactly 900 words.
ReplyDelete(black tea)
@Sohum
ReplyDeleteWhat I did is I planned out the fic in about 10-15 mins (plot, emotional drivers, etc), then opened up Google Docs and just typed it out.
I'mma gonna say this right now, I probably have the most insane, random entry. How's that you ask?
ReplyDeleteBlues Brothers jokes.
I'm gonna be honest... I almost wrote out a pinkie/dash cooking fic. I almost did... but then I thought; "how could I make this story unique?"
ReplyDeleteSo, I decided to go with Twilight! Yeah, she's surely got some books on cooking right? But then I thought other people would get the same idea... and decided to go deeper.
That's when I saw Spike...
@FRiNKEL
ReplyDeletePlanning? What is this... "planning" you speak of?
:P
But yeah, I couldn't actually come up with a plot I liked, so I just started writing and played it completely straight. Dash tries to cook, blows up things. And any questions I started asking myself I went back and answered.
I wish I could've done something interesting with motivations and suchlike, yea.
@StreakTheFox
ReplyDeleteI am giving you three thumbs of glorious praise and a manly tear of commendation. You are a gentleman and a scholar and I wish you luck with life's journey.
SON OF A BITCH. I would have loved to write on this prompt. Stupid real-world commitments...
ReplyDeleteI am really, REALLY proud of what I wrote. ReplyDelete@Yomandude Gah, I meant communal* >_>
ReplyDeleteYou know, I'll go to sleep now before I end up killing somepony, or getting a brain aneurysm. G'night!
@Yomandude
ReplyDelete''and spent the last four hours revising/editing.''
That is cheating! You were only suposed to edit it in the two hours
My picture on equestriadaily - fuck yeah :D
ReplyDelete
