Apparently it's free to change your legal name over in Finland, and pretty easy at that. A brony on Ponychan has taken the ultimate leap of pony faith. He is now officially known as "Rainbow Alexsi Dash".
Have fun being shipped with absolutely everything now!

Oh lawdy, this is amazing.
ReplyDeleteWhere is this man. I need to shake his hand.
ReplyDeleteShould have been Rarity.
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh what has he done? XD
ReplyDeleteNow THAT is dedication.
ReplyDeletewut
ReplyDeleteoh god he did it.
ReplyDeleteI'll never understand people who think things like this is a good idea. It's like naming yourself Obtimus Prime.
ReplyDeleteIf he changed it to Rarity, the reference wouldn't be as obvious, due to it only being a first name.
ReplyDeleteAlright this guy deserves Hasbro's pony carepackage equally if not more than physics brony.
ReplyDelete...
ReplyDeleteThat's cool...
id say its pretty stupid. but if he is happy with that name, who am i to stop him.
ReplyDeleteOh wow.
ReplyDeleteWin?
Yes
Win
I don't care how awesome ponies are. YOU. HAVE. GONE. TOO. FAR.
ReplyDeleteThat is just creepy weird.
Wow, he's got balls.
ReplyDeleteI personally think that's pretty stupid. Unless he's planning on changing his name back in a few years, he's going to get ridiculed a LOT in the future. I mean, there's liking the show, and then there' taking it WAY too far.
ReplyDeleteEven if I were a chick, I don't think I'd change my name. If it did, however, it would be Sapphire Shores.
ReplyDeleteWhat the hell.
ReplyDeleteB-but he still can change it back for free, right?
ReplyDeleteThere's liking the show...
ReplyDeleteThen there's being a brony...
Then there's being so far out of your skull you can see the curvature of the universe.
Have fun being in every shipping fic.
ReplyDeleteand then... he was sue'ed by hasbro... dun dun duuuuun
ReplyDeleteI'm pretty sure the middle name is Aleksi with a k, which is fairly common name in here. We don't normally use x'es in here.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I'm a bit less proud of being a Finn.
@Crimson Valor
ReplyDeleteThis.
Though, if it makes him happy, more power to him I guess...
All I can say is wow.
ReplyDeleteWonder if he still is referred to by his previous name.
And yes, he can change it back, and he stated that he's going to use his "old name" for everything unofficial.
ReplyDeleteFun fact: if Rainbow Dash isn't being shipped with everything that can be shipped with, she's getting tortured and killed.
ReplyDeleteHave fun!
this guy must be a pretty rad dude to do something like this.
ReplyDeletebut WHY
ReplyDeleteI bet he changes his name back in 10 seconds flat.
ReplyDeleteWell, now that I think of it. He can just use his old name for everything. It's just that for every legal thing he ever gets involved with, he will have to use that name.
ReplyDeleteTaking Fandom to a whole new level lol. If it's so easy though he'll probably change it back later on lol. XD
ReplyDeleteI'm torn between calling this awesome and calling this embarrassing.
ReplyDeleteThis is embarrawesome.
The first man to change his name to Twilight Sparkle is getting a $1000 check from me.
ReplyDelete@AliceInChainsaccording to the thread, he didn't. *anti-joke_chicken.jpg*
ReplyDeleteYou've got to be kidding me... -.-
ReplyDeleteFree name change is the best name change!
ReplyDeleteI don't know if I should be scared or happy, but this man has balls I guess.
ReplyDeleteGuess that's one way to get free shipping.
ReplyDeleteWait, he ACTUALLY did it? Damn, that's amazing and must take a ton of courage. Kudos to Rainbow Alexsi Dash!
ReplyDeleteI remember reading a while back that more recent names tend to be weirder than older ones. Ex: Princess is becoming a common name, albeit still rare.
ReplyDeleteI SHALL NAME MY SON SCOOTALOO & MY DAUGHTER SWEETIE BELLE!!
inb4 name is 20% cooler xD
ReplyDeleteStep 1: Move top Finland and become citizen.
ReplyDeleteStep 2: Change name to The Doctor or Pokey Pierce.
Frankly you shouldn't have posted this. It just encourages retards to be even more retarted.
ReplyDelete@Ivan2294
ReplyDelete>implying I will ever have kids or even be in a relationship of any sorts.
Damn. I need to do something awesome and pony related...
ReplyDeleteWould carving Luna's likeness into the moon work?
1. where is the actual proof of said person doing this?
ReplyDelete2. if they actually did, its pretty stupid, its really giving fuel to the already raging fire.
@DrashianDiatamis
ReplyDeleteI'll admit, I lol'ed.
I think Rainbow Dash is a pretty cool guy. Eh changed his name and doesn’t afraid of anything.
ReplyDeleteGotta admit, though, his new name is pretty RAD.
ReplyDelete...
pffffft
That's it...The ultimate proof ponies are slowly taking control of the world.
ReplyDeleteThis might just be a bit too much...
ReplyDeleteHeh, his initials are R.A.D, that's pretty rad.
ReplyDelete*Slow clap*
ReplyDeleteHa, his initials are R.A.D. Rainbow Dash would approve (and probably a little creeped out).
ReplyDelete@Springtime Blues
ReplyDeleteI BEAT YOU TO IT!
HAHAHAHA
oh lord what's wrong with us?
> Initials are R.A.D
ReplyDeleteCoincidence? I THINK NOT!!!!
It's relatively easy to change your name in Canada, too. http://www.cbc.ca/news/background/name-change/how-to.html
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't. It's a bit extreme. But if it makes Rainbow A. Dash happy, and as long as he isn't hurting anyone, I don't see the harm.
It's like that guy who named himself Captain Fantastic Faster than Superman Spiderman Batman Wolverine and The Hulk and the Flash Combined.
ReplyDelete"Reallifeponyname Wed, Jun 15th, 2011 7:42 AM No. 2497152
ReplyDelete>>2497150
Herpderp.
I'll still use my old name just as I've used before, now my official name just is Rainbow Aleksi Dash.
I'm going to become a doctor president."
Yeah, he's still using his old name. It's just a legal change.
WHY.jpg
ReplyDeleteUhm... pics or it didn't happen?
ReplyDelete@Anonymous
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure who exactly you're referring to by the "retards", but I partially agree.
hmmmm... i would prbobly name myself twilight sparkle or apple bloom
ReplyDeleteoh god, wow.
ReplyDeleteA little excessive...but if he's happy with it, then more power to him.
ReplyDeletehttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bSxD7ANFONM
ReplyDelete^mfw
It really sounds like the dude just jumped right into it without much thought. Like a kid running away from home, it feels good for the first hour or so, then they realize it was a stupid move and be back home before dinner.
I give it a few weeks before the "new name" smell wears off, then he'll begin to feel stupid about what he did.
That's serious dedication right there. Maybe a little too serious. I wouldn't change my name to reflect a fictional character no matter where it's from.
ReplyDeleteOh my...
ReplyDeleteWhelp.
ReplyDeleteThat sure is a thing that happened!
This is about as embarrassing and stupid as it gets.
ReplyDeleteTypical fucking ponychan.
If you think this guy's stupid, you're either mad because you didn't think of it first, or you're not comfortable enough with your own bronyism to make that epically awesome leap.
ReplyDeleteWe'll be seeing a lot more rainbooms from now on.
See, I would think this was ridiculous and stupid and way too far if it is in the US where name changes are a pain in the ass, but since it's not as extreme over there as it would seem, I'm less freaked out by this.
ReplyDeleteNext thing we hear about a brony couple naming their firstborn Lyra.
ReplyDeleteWhat? it would make a good middle name!
...
ReplyDelete?
I like to see somebrony get there name changed to Twilight Sparkle and get pulled over by the cops.
ReplyDeleteThis is indeed unusual, but also does not pick my pocket one bit. Let the man be, and let him reap the seeds the seeds that he has sown for good or for ill on his own.
ReplyDelete'the fuck. Well, if it makes the guy happy, it's his choice after all.
ReplyDeleteOkay, now I'm a bit less ashamed of being a (Finnish) brony. I mean, I wasn't much ashamed to begin with, but this... just is taking it to whole new levels of "What." Makes my little pony drawing obsession seem quite small, don't it?
ReplyDeleteHarms nobody, brings a smile to his face. I call this an epic win. =)
ReplyDeletealso, the second someone names their kid after any of the mane six (the applebloom kid doesn't count because that isn't THAT far fetched of a name anyway. that's like vaguely embarrassing hippie parent territory at most) then I think we should maybe consider that some of the radio stations have at least a sliver of a point.
ReplyDeleteHe'll have to work on his pickup lines now. "My name is Dash... Rainbow Dash."
ReplyDelete@Anonymous
ReplyDelete@Cody MacArthur Fett
I agree 100%
@Anonymous
ReplyDelete"Hey baby wanna see my Sonic Rainboom?"
I only hope he doesn't:
ReplyDelete1) Seek media attention
2) Go on a crime spree later on
3) Encourage other people to do shit like this
It's Aleksi not Alexsi.
ReplyDeleteFIRST
ReplyDeleteI see this as only a bad thing if parents were to force this name upon a baby, remember those people who named their child "Sephiroth". He turned himself into a giant bulls eye but at least he did it on his own will.
ReplyDelete@Anonymous
ReplyDeleteOh, wow, a crime spree from him would have me in stitches.
I live in Norway, so I can legally change my name to The Doctor. Or maybe Soarin'.
ReplyDelete@DavidReinold
ReplyDeleteThis.
>Changes name to Rainbow Dash
ReplyDeleteWhat kind of person would be crazy enough to do that?!?!
>Finland
Oh.
0_0 holy s#$%!!! he actually did it? that's awsome! anyone who's that comfortable with himself to be names after a my little pony character is alright with me. =D
ReplyDeleteE.P.I.C.!
ReplyDeleteIs gay marriage legal in Finland? Because if so I am moving there and marrying Rainbow Dash.
ReplyDeleteOK, fuck this fandom. I'm done.
ReplyDeleteWait, it's 'he'? WHAT THE FUCK?!? Seriously, RD IS NOT MALE! He should have chosen some male name, like Braeburn, or his own's OC character!
ReplyDelete*lol at the thought of transvestite calling him/herself carmel /)^3^(\*
@Anonymous
ReplyDeleteA national guardsman did change his name to Optimus Prime not too long ago. I think it was in 2007?
I don't recall hearing of many people giving him crap about it.
@Anonymous
ReplyDeleteEPIC LOL
Glad someone else did this first, I've been thinking of changing my name to Pinkamena XD
ReplyDeleteAnd I'm a girl.
Man my first plan to be a hard core fan was to buy the Derpy drawing off ebay....then I was out bidded.
ReplyDeleteThen I was planing on getting a Derpy cutie mark tattoo but then this guys name is now Dash!
I JUST CAN'T WIN!!!!!!!
Im just not hard core enough!
There's no proof he really did. At least I didn't see any. So I don't believe it.
ReplyDeleteHow can you guys think this is cool? He just messed up his life and made himself a PERMANENT TARGET.
ReplyDelete@Anonymous
ReplyDeleteIt was easy enough for him to change it once, he can change it back if he is dissatisfied with the results.
100+ comments in less than an hour. Hellll yes
ReplyDeleteThe documents will come in within a week, or so he says.
ReplyDeleteAnd seeing as how EASY it was for him to change it in the first place, he will probably have no trouble changing it back if he feels like it's not a good idea anymore.
Ah well; the world's a crazy place.
I don't see why you guys are getting so up in arms about it. Is it a stupid decision? Yes, but honestly, he can just change the name right back if it's easy enough to change your name to Rainbow Dash.
ReplyDeleteAlso, a Pixar fan changed his name to Buzz Lightyear...dunno what happened to him though.
Best parasprite in a long time. Either on ponychan or IRL.
ReplyDelete@Anonymous
ReplyDeleteHe says it's just his official name. He plans to use his real name in day to day affairs.
Reading, it's good stuff.
I read the entire thread as it was happening, and as I understood it:
ReplyDeleteHis former name was Aleksi, he realized he could legally and freely change his name to Rainbow Dash, and after a few hours of support from Ponychan he went and changed it to Rainbow Aleksi Dash. He will still use Aleksi as his name, and he can change it back again if it doens't work out.
I think this is awesome - a brave declaration of faith in bronydom. If he's happy with it, I don't think anyone should take it away from him.
Still haven't seen a scan of the paperwork. Maybe he'll scan his drivers licences when he gets a new one.
ReplyDeletei don't think i could go through with changing my name to a pony name, Joe Plate is such a good name.
ReplyDeleteIt's not really that much worth fretting about. It's his life, he can do what he wants with it, we can't tell him what to do.
ReplyDeleteIt does, however, bring this easier-to-access question to the table:
If you had a newborn child, would you give them a pony related name? If so, what?
Someone mentioned "Lyra" being a good middle name. Indeed it is, plus it already exists as an 'acceptable' name. I doubt I'd give any of children pony related names, with the best reason being that I don't plane on having children for at least another 10 years and by then I'd probably have forgotten most of the pony names (doubt I'll forget the mane six, but their names are not 'acceptable').
Someone changed his name to Captain Awesome so i don't see the problem here.
ReplyDelete~Flamerunner.
I just realized. Hawaii's Drivers Licenses have rainbows on them right?
ReplyDelete-Change Name to Rainbow Dash
-Move to Hawaii
-Get Driver's License
-????
-Profit
man, this has been my favorite community because it's always seemed to be about tolerance and acceptance and then this happens that effects nopony but the one who changed his name and the love and tolerance switch gets flipped off and everypony freaks out on him.
ReplyDeleteWhile I would never change my name to Rainbow, or anything else as I like my name, I would still support there decision since it's not harming themselves or anypony else. It seems like, if he really did change his name, it was pretty easy and cost nothing but time so he could always change it back if it became a burden.
@Anonymous
ReplyDelete"You know, I'm the fastest in all of Equestria."
Pinkie isn't that bad.
ReplyDeletePinkie and the brain, they're pinkie and the brain...
Sethisto, you need to correct the name.
ReplyDeleteHe said in the thread his name has Aleksi in it, not Alexsi.
I want to be called Steven Magnet :(
ReplyDeleteTaking advice from an image board? I think that speaks much more about him than changing his name.
ReplyDeleteIs there any way I can order this man one of these shirts?
ReplyDeletehttp://www.ponychan.net/chan/merch/src/130774476166.png
He deserves it more than anypony right now.
He should use this opportunity to speak out to Hasbro about getting better toys for the bronies. If anyone, they should listen to Rainbow A. Dash.
ReplyDeleteehh
ReplyDeleteFaith in humanity -1
Oh Finland, lately discovered to be the country with the highest live quality among all countries in the world... I wonder why? ^_^
ReplyDeleteI say it again: This is the weirdest fancommunity ever to be, but I wonder what name-changes the Harry-Potter or StarWars-Franchise brought up over their time... Nonetheless a nice lil' moment for us. :)
Yeah, I see this in other fandoms all the time. If you can change it back easily it never is that much of a problem. Woe betide those Babies that are given names though. You have to feel sorry for all the Baby Girls in the world with the name "Renesmee" because the mother was a Twilight Fan...
ReplyDeleteSomeone draw Rainbow (the pony) reacting to this, please.
ReplyDeletehahaahaha kudo's bro, kudo's
ReplyDeleteIt's ok to like the show but Christ on a pogo stick there's a limit!
ReplyDeleteI have no respect for obsessive fans like him and this was a really dumb decision.
I also have no idea why Seth posts inane stuff like this.
Social norms are like dreams in "Inception"; if you try to change too much too fast, people respond poorly and attack.
ReplyDeleteThat being said, if it works, more power to you.
I don't see anything wrong with an adult changing their name. Now, if someone was naming their KID a strange or stupid name, then that'd be another story, 'cause that kid would have to "deal with it" for at least the next two decades, and that's assuming they aren't so tramautized (like the skinheads who (tried to?) named their baby Adolf Hitler..) that they actually make it to that age..
ReplyDeleteBut an adult? Sure, why not. Once you're past school, it's just a name. Oh, and someone earlier in the comments mentioned Optimus Prime; there actually is a dude who renamed himself that. Google it!
Hmmm, and you guys wonder why people hate us?
ReplyDeleteHi, my name is Rainbow Aleksi Dash, but you can call me Awesome.
ReplyDeleteWhatever floats his boat :3
ReplyDeleteSaying your name is 'Rainbow' to other people would make you look ridiculous
But I gotta admit, Mr. Dash sounds quite cool
Why the fuck would anyone do something as stupid as this?
ReplyDeleteA lot of people don't seem to understand he will only rainbow dash with friends and in needed situations. Otherwise he will be going by his middle name. Most likely most people won't know. Its not like he trying to get people to pay attention to him, its just kind of like an in-joke.
ReplyDeleteI saw that thread yesterday, but didn't think much more about it. I seriously didn't expect him to rename himself after a cartoon pony.
ReplyDelete@Anonymous
ReplyDeleteYep, still do.
Holy. Fucking. Shit!
ReplyDeleteAnd I thought dyeing my hair rainbow was extreme! This man is awesome! And he clearly knows who is best pony.
This just made me want to change my name to Steven Magnet even more.
ReplyDelete@Anonymous
ReplyDeleteWhy the fuck not? Obviously he has his reasons. Besides, it's fun. Just stand aside and giggle with the rest of us.
I'm okay with this. His full, legal name is only required for official purposes and he's going to use his original name for everything else.
ReplyDeleteAdditionally, the name change was free of charge so once he gets the papers, if he doesn't like it, he can change it back and it'll just be a funny story to tell people.
So unless he's going to apply for a job or government position within the next week or so, there's really no problem here.
As for this being a detriment to the community, I hardly think so. Hell, if it wasn't a bitch and a half to do a name change over here, I'd do it just for shits'n'giggles.
>Alexsi
ReplyDelete>Not Aleksi
>Son, i am disappoint
This guy just changed his name because of a TV show. That's pretty dumb if you ask me.
ReplyDelete@Anonymous
ReplyDeleteWell, nobody asked you.
@Anonymous
ReplyDeleteI think that he is still Aleksi. Some people just happen to make "ks" to "x".
Not 100% sure tho...
Aww, you just had to bring up the shipping part, didn't you Seth? :/
ReplyDeletePhew, its in Finland! I still have 3 More chances!
ReplyDeleteThe only thing I'm laughing at are the ponies hating on this guy.
ReplyDeleteEverypony here is only here because they watch a show meant for seven-year-old girls, and yet your first reaction to this guy changing his name to show pride in that fact is about the same as the reactions that you more than likely had to ignore when you first became fans.
Honestly, who cares if he changes his name to Rainbow Dash? I'll admit, this is coming from one of those guys who'd probably have no second thoughts about renaming myself Owlysious if it was as easy for me as this was for him, but still.
It only affects him, and even then only in the eyes of the legal system and probably his friends, but you all seem to treat it like he came over, knocked on the door, waited for you to answer, then walked back into your front yard and took a dump in the grass.
(...Which, thinking about it, would probably also get quite a few "this guy is awesome" remarks along with the haters.)
Anyway, what I'm saying is, even if you all are completely ignoring all the others who are saying the exact same thing as me (except I made a word wall so you can't ignore me), consider the fact that it's his life, he's tens of thousands of miles away from you, and you're more than likely not familiar with him.
So why do you have any right to be angry?
Thirty minutes ago I still had some faith in this community left and was a little happier. But no more.
ReplyDeleteDude named himself after a talking cartoon pegasus. I don't even have words to describe how much I respect this man for what he's done.
ReplyDeleteNext step: extensive plastic surgery and gene-splicing.
Hate to point this out, but erm...I have scrolled through the thread and I don't see ANY evidence that he actually did it.
ReplyDeleteWhile I'm not saying he didn't, it is a bit weird that people got sooo freaked out in the thread over something that is
1) not their business actually
2) not proved to have happened.
Anyways, if he really did it, I send him my greatest appreciation :)
Can't imagine changing my entire name but I would fiddle with the idea of picking up a pony-related middle name :)
I am proud of you son.
ReplyDeleteNow go become the president of Finland and spread the goodness of the bronyhood.
@Display Name
ReplyDeleteBecause it doesn't just affect him, it affects us, the fandom, as a whole. It makes our case that much harder to tell people that we're normal people that happen to like ponies. It's the same reason that gay people stay in the closet; because other people's preconceived notions that group make being a member of it so much harder to be accepted.
He's literally ruining ponies now.
This is just terrible.
ReplyDeletePeople are taking this way too day.
I am not an legal expert; the following is simply how I interpreted the Finnish naming law.
ReplyDeleteWithout any evidence, I find it hard to believe that he actually managed to do it, due to the Finnish name law. It is stated in the law that one has to provide a clear and acceptable reason to change his/her last name.
It also states that the new last name cannot contradict the Finnish naming practise in terms of form or spelling, unless the one has connections (multiple citizenship) to a country, in which the naming practise supporst the name.
It is, of course, possible that Aleksi was able to convince the notary public that he had a good reason to change his name: it is also possible that he indeed does have multiple citizenship.
I'd like to see some more proof.
Personally, I don't like the idea. However, it is his name and his life. Who am I to judge him if it makes him happy?
This is just another proof that we Finns are a crazy bunch.
My! I'm afraid to imagine what could happen after second season.
ReplyDeleteThis is amazing.
ReplyDeleteThis man is to be revered.
Addition to my previous post: Same rules of following the Finnish naming practise also apply to one's first name. These can be disregarded
ReplyDelete1) for religious reasons
2)if one has connections to a foreign country, in which the name would be acceptable (like with one's last name)
3) for other admissible reasons
I love this man and this community. I love and tolerate you all so much more than the rest of the world, you just don't even.
ReplyDeleteOf course I love and tolerate the rest of the world, but it's harder.
ReplyDeleteSo, his name is now Rainbow Dash, eh?
ReplyDeleteHe'd better be weary of cupcakes from now on...
They said he could be anything, so he became a pony.
ReplyDeleteSo this man's name is now Rainbow Dash, eh?
ReplyDeleteHe'd better be wary of cupcakes from now on...
@Anonymous
ReplyDelete"It makes our case that much harder to tell people that we're normal people that happen to like ponies."
What is this strange obsession people are showing to appear as "normal" in the eyes of complete strangers.
Define normal.
Define why you want to look normal and nothing deviant.
Define why does it matter so much.
And last but not least: every and each fandom (or subculture group) have members who take it a bit too far at some point.
People who are not guided by prejudice know this, and those who are won't really care since they have labelled us already the moment they heard we are watching ponies.
In any case, I don't see why I should bother to "prove" anything to anyone. I'm part of the fandom, Im happy for it, and I don't really care if people like it or not.
This comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDelete@Anonymous
ReplyDeleteNo he's not. Most fandoms have at least one crazy person like this. Have you heard of the guy that renamed himself Optimus Prime?
So many crazies in the world, and yet they are made of epic and win.
@Anonymous
ReplyDeleteDamn, thought I could fix my spelling error before the message went through. Oh well.
Hey, as long as this doesn't detriment the community in a big way, so be it.
ReplyDeleteWorst case scenario, at least their naming process is "in-and-out" so quickly.
Still wouldn't do it myself though.
Iamokwiththis.jpg
ReplyDeleteIt's his name. What he does with it is his business. He must know he's going to get ridiculed and made fun of for it (as well as shipped with absolutely everything), yet he's ok with it. So am I.
I asked a Finnish number service 020202 for his number. Couldn't find him... yet atleast
ReplyDeleteIf it's that easy to do this in Finland, I don't see why everyone is freaking out. Give it a year or two, or less, and he will legally change his name back.
ReplyDeleteIf I ever meet this man, I will give him a full on kiss on the lips. I don't give a fuck that I'm straight and so is he. Also I wanna move to Finland now so I can fuck around with my name.
ReplyDeleteI want to meet this guy. So I can call someone Rainbow Dash in real life. <3
ReplyDeleteHOLY FUCKING SHIT!!! O_O :O
ReplyDeletehttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C1d-Hso2Jq4 My Reaction
I WAS FUCKING RIGHT! By 21December 2012 The Apocalypse is gonna happen! PONIES ARE GONNA TAKE OVER THE WORLD!
Order me a plane ticket to Finland, I need to shake his hand
ReplyDeleteI sincerely doubt that this happened.
ReplyDeleteAccording to Finnish law you can change your surname only, 1) if that name has been in your family before, 2) if your original surname is offensive or hard to pronounce 3) there's another very good reason. At least I doubt the name "Dash" was originally in his family.
You can change your first name ONCE only by anouncing that "yes, I want to change my name", but you can't change it again (not even back to the original) again that easily.
And the one thing is, no names of registered tardemaks can be used. And to my knowledge, "Rainbow Dash" IS a trademark of Hasbro.
Yet another thing: If I'm not mistaken, he changed his name in less than a day. With your first name that's possible, but not with your surname. It has to be checked by the magistrate. I have friends, who have changed their names, and it took few weeks to get the final decision from the authorities.
I might be horribly mistaken, but still I don't really buy it.
This is amazing.
ReplyDeleteGod speed Finland
hmm i got an idea..
ReplyDelete1) Win the presidential election in the USA
2) Change name to 'Princess Celestia'
3) ...
4) Profit
i can't since i'm not a US citizen.. so one of you guys have to do it..
@Anonymous
ReplyDeleteThis. This SO MUCH. Seriously, you know people are going to do random stuff like this (naming a kid Facebook/Google/etc.), so might as well just be an adult.
Also, remember everypony, he's in Finland, so cultural differences might make this less weird than here in the States (still weird, just slightly less so).
And the whole "I CAN CHANGE IT BACK JUST AS EASILY" thing.
I think this is great if he can do some really cool things with it. Good things.
ReplyDeleteAs one other said, "Dr. Rainbow Dash, PhD" sounds awesome.
siis mita vittua, oikeasti?
ReplyDeleteaika siisti :D
oon kuullut oudompi (esim chewbaka) mutta toi on aika hieno.
onks jonkinlainen todistus mahdollista?
(olisin laittanut tata ponychanissa mut toi thread on lukittu jostain syysta)
Holy shit. Most epic naming since Robin Williams named his daughter Zelda.
ReplyDeleteFun fact: At the moment, according to an official name register in Finland, there are "less than" 20 Finns with the first name "Rainbow", of which half are women, half men. Then again, there are eleven Finns with last name "Dash", of which nine don't live in Finland...
ReplyDelete@Ewyndall
ReplyDeleteFinally, at least some people have understood that the best way to make ourselves look good is to tolerate hate, respond with the truth, then tell them to "Deal With It.jpeg"
Trying to make "the fandom" look better by calling him out for it is not the right way to do things.
1.The Love, Tolerance, and Friendship ideals represent the community, not people.
2. By succumbing to social norms and turning on your own kind for something that is weird, but not illegal, is making you look like a middle schooler, afraid of what other people think of you.
3. Your life will only be miserable if you let it be, I know a lot of people who like to be friends with someone who can repel hate and support the facts like a boss.
4. I have NEVER seen a community accept its "flaws" and stand proud. The effect of not standing proud is a ton of stereotypes that only get proven by trying to defend against them.
So don't fight hate and be a man, were not perfect but we can be the best we can be by loving, tolerating, and even defending our flaws. Not by trying to hide them.
(Personally, this man may be a bit crazy but it's a good crazy, a crazy that I am proud to enjoy ponies with.)
The beginning of the end.
ReplyDeleteAs a fellow Finn, I'm proud to be a member of a nation where during stupid thing is not only legal, it's a sport. Not kidding. There's a sport called "Old hag throwing" in which you compete on who can throw a old lady the longest. Anyway, I personally don't think this is a good idea... mostly because in Finland being better than someone or different is a unspoken crime. Still, kudos to this guy. He does have balls.
ReplyDeleteIn Finland you can make a surname for yourself, as long as it's appropriate AND if it doesn't exist already. And if those "less than 20" Dashes mentioned earlier are not his relatives, it's not possible.
ReplyDeleteSanotaanko, että rajansa kaikella...
holy shit what the fuck?
ReplyDeleteWoah, some one's taking it a tad too far. Still, dude's got balls if he's willing to do that.
ReplyDeleteThis is taking it TOO far.
ReplyDeleteJust to put try and put this in context:

I would say being known as "Happy Spanners" is somewhat more epic based on originality. :P
Judging from what folks have been saying about Finnish law (which I still haven't read and don't intend to) he probably hasn't changed his name to Rainbow A. Dash. But even if he did manage, there's no point in calling him an idiot or anything like that. It makes him happy, he's an adult, it's his own choice and doesn't affect us in any way.
ReplyDelete@Anonymous But then again you get these kinds of people in every fandom.
ReplyDeleteLol. Love what this guy did, but seriously? Pics or it didnt happen.
ReplyDeleteAnd here we see how the "love and tolerance" flies out of the window.
ReplyDeleteOkei, nyt kyllä mentiin vähän liian pitkälle. =D
ReplyDeleteI think someone has gone just a little bit too far.
First somebrony gets that huge tattoo on their arm, and now this. And while I'm kinda glad that there actually are other finnish bronies out there *brohoof*, I'm kinda concerned for his future. As great as the show and community is, this might be just a tiiiny bit too much.
Maybe this is the chance we need to claim the first place on the podium of the crazies people in the entire world!
Oh wait, there are still the japanese and you guys. Maybe we'll have to settle in for the third place afterall.
But anyways. Does changing his name make him any less of a person? Definitely not. He's still the same guy as before, only with a 20% cooler name.
Love and tolerance you guys. It's his life. No matter how crazy it is.
And I'm kinda sure he'll eventually change it back anyway.
Silly bronie.
ReplyDeleteThat's not how you spell Pinkie Aleksi Pie!
...Huh. I could have sworn that changing one's names takes a lot more than what he said it would take, if I remember my school's lessons about it correctly. I think I'll wait for the proof about this, though that might take a while.
ReplyDeleteIf he did actually do this, I think it's needlessly extreme thing to do but it is his life and he's not really affecting anybody, so I'm not in a position to say anything about this. Also, there have been stranger reasons and names people have at least tried to take in here: one guy tried to get the letter "J" be his first name and another woman tried to get parts of poetry be hers. Any reasons for this? Not a single one. At least Aleksi can say that he's a big fan of the series.
Also, is it a good or bad thing that I live in the same country but in a completely different region of it?
So whether this person actually did or not its still extreme attention whoring and giving tons of ammo to people outside of the fandom to fire at us.
