Twenty of you sure did join the party late! Welcome to the club!
I can see how Party of One converted 76, that episode was pure awesome.
This next poll was requested by someone over on Ponychan. Apparently there is a huge debate going on about Trixie's innocence in Boast Busters.
Some things to point out about the episode that should supplement it:
- As a Traveling Entertainer, it is technically her job to boast her abilities.
- Rainbow Dash started it with her "magic smagic, boooo".
- The Ursa Major wasn't actually her fault, though boasting about defeating one was probably overboard
- Trixie was still an asshole to everyone even after the magic show.
- She did at least try to defeat the ursa!
Try to keep the Trixie comments for the actual Trixie poll post!
Inb4 I accepted this poll because Trixie is the greatest equine that ever lived.
^Update^ Added Snips and Snails! Go vote again!

Seth accepted this poll because Trixie is the worst equine that ever lived.
ReplyDeleteYa see, I turned it around.
"The Ursa Major wasn't actually her fault, though boasting about defeating one was probably overboard"
ReplyDeleteThat wasn't an Ursa Major, it was a baby, an Ursa Minor.
did somebody say The GReat and Powerful TRIXIE?
ReplyDeleteI'm not even going to vote because it wasn't any of their faults. She probably always told that story but snips/snails were the dumb ones.
ReplyDeletei was the first to vote :D
ReplyDeleteepisode 9 is what did me in. Steven Magnet from episode 2 was super effective but Flutterguy is what KOed me.
ReplyDelete@NinesTempest
ReplyDeleteI agree. Where the hell is Snips/Snails?
Yeah, Snips and Snails are the ones to blame. There should be a "Neither of their fault" option because I don't blame either Trixie or Twilight.
ReplyDeleteYeah. Sorry, Seth, but I'm not voting if I can't blame it on the boys. If they hadn't stirred up the Ursa, nothing would have really gone wrong.
ReplyDeleteThis should be an interesting poll to see the results of, as it's often hotly debated.
ReplyDeleteCould you add in an option saying Snips and Snails were at fault? Even though Trixy did say she beat an Ursa Major, everypony should know never to annoy an Ursa of any sort. That was just stupid of them, even if they are just kids.
ReplyDeleteI request an addition to this poll. Personally, I think blame lies with Snips and Snails. Seriously, they went looking for an Ursa Major just to watch somepony defeat it.
ReplyDeleteI know Trixie lead them on with a lie, but come on? Even if Trixie hadn't been lying the collateral damage of the Ursa just getting into town was significant.
It's a lot of pony's faults. Snips and Snails for bringing in the Ursa, everypony else (including Trixie) for taking Trixie too seriously.
ReplyDeleteNth-ing Snips & Snails here. Clearly this poll is a thinly-veiled ploy to stir up animosity between the pro-Trixie and pro-Twilight camps. BUT TO WHAT END?
ReplyDeleteBecame an addict after realizing I wanted more after part 2.Than pony euphoria did the rest.
ReplyDeletethose disgusting snips and snails things were to blame
ReplyDeleteActually, with all this blame on Snips and Snails, I just remembered that Spike was the one that told them the proof is in the pudding, which made them go get the Ursa in the first place (as well as think of flea markets). So who IS really to blame?
ReplyDeleteDude, seriously, Snips and Snails are the morons here.
ReplyDeleteSnips and Snails are the ones at fault.
ReplyDeleteHow can it be the mane cast's fault? Because they were booing at a blowhard? I hope we all realize that talking about the Ursa Major was most likely part of her routine...
ReplyDeleteSnips and Snails should be an option since they were the ones that got the Ursa Minor.
ReplyDeleteI voted for A Dog and Pony Show in the last poll. The first episode that I saw was The Ticket Master, but the thing that made me interested in the show in the first place was a clip of the whining bit from ADaPS. And when I finally saw the episode proper, I was hooked.
ReplyDeleteAs far as this poll goes, it was all Snips and Snails. No one else was to blame.
If Trixie would not have lied about the Ursa, Snips and Snails wouldn't have gotten the idea to wake the Ursa Minor up. Snips and Snails are dumb, and Trixie took advantage of that.
ReplyDeletePlus Trixie just ran away at the end while Snips and Snails actually accepted responsibility (and epic mustaches.)
Snips and Snails took responsibility. Trixie didn't.
>Try to keep the Trixie comments for the actual Trixie poll post!
ReplyDeleteOkey-dokey-lokey!
Dragonshy was my first episode. After my near-death roflcopter after the title sequence (on account of how ridiculous it was), it probably only took me until Fluttershy jumped into that darned bush for me to be converted.
I voted for Trixie, but only because Snips and Snails wasn't an option. I really think there the ones at fault for the entire event.
ReplyDelete@ Drew
ReplyDeleteIt isn't Trixie's fault that Snips and Snails were stupid anymore than it is Spike's fault that Snips and Snails were stupid.
Why does everypony have such a problem with The Great and Powerful Trixe? I mean sure she brags but doesn't everpony? not as much as she does but we all do. And the Ursa Minor wasn't her fault, it was Snips and Snails who caused the trouble. Trixe is one of the best ponies on the show, after Scootaloo of course.
ReplyDelete@Anonymous
ReplyDeleteWhat about the pro-Snips and Snails camp?
Oh. Right.
well trixie started everything with the story but she probably makes that in every town she goes
ReplyDeleteSnips and Snails were plain dumb and it's mostly their fault but yeah trixie ran away but she tried to defeat the ursa.
everypoy has to be blamed
In my case, the first Five episodes.
ReplyDeleteWhen I watched the first two, I thought this was a rip off of Sailor Moon, but then the rest of the episodes showed to be really entertaining.
At this point it would probably be best to restart the poll with more options, considering how much arguing has happened and will continue to happen until Snips and Snails get an option.
ReplyDeletethe episode that turned me brony was the first one i ever saw: Dragonshy, i found that episode in the comments of a MLPFiM meme from memebase and i juts wanted to find a certain screenshot, but the plot was more interesting. i came into this show not knowing a THING about it and yet, it was still amazing. GG lauren faust
ReplyDeleteSuited for Success was the first episode I watched. Immediate conversion.
ReplyDeleteAnd I blame the makers of the show for even creating the scenario that transpired in the episode.
im gunna blame this one on tassadar becuase he clearly failed us
ReplyDelete/r/ing a "Manure Happens"/Nopony's fault option.
ReplyDeleteTrixie was just doing her job, being a stage magician, albeit it an obviously arrogant one. The Mane Cast didn't do anything wrong at all, since Trixie's act seems designed to provoke people into heckling her in the first place (so she can show them up and impress everyone), they were just going along with it. Snips and Snails are retarded though.
ReplyDeleteBoth in the wrong in my eyes . . . but i dont think Trixie handled things well at all. The main reason i feel that she TRIED to defeat the minor was to bloat her ego further. But She did have fear in her eyes, so that leads me to believe that somewhere she truely did try. If not fear for herself . . . possibly for Ponyville . . . it is an URSA after all. Snips and Snails got off WAY too easy, they shoulda been tanned for that transgression . . . . i woulda been much harder if'n i were Twi . . . BUT Trixie did run away, bad move little mare, bad move.
ReplyDeleteThe very first episode. I just happen to press the play button on enabled youtube video and I've been hooked on the show ever since and it's made me happy to be apart of this awesome fandom :)
ReplyDeleteSeth just changed it to have a Snips and Snails option. Now let's all keep saying that we want a "Nopony was to blame" option to drive him mad!
ReplyDeleteWell, The second part of the first episode was what cemented me as a Brony-or whatever the female equivalent is.(Bronettie?)
ReplyDeleteAlso, I think maybe the blame was on Snip's and Snail's parents. Trixie is a stage magician and I think she told her story many times. There's bound to be young fillies that would believe her tales, but Snips and Snails where foolish kids and the real problem was lack of parental supervision. Still, I blame Snips and Snails for waking the Ursa Minor because they wanted a show.
I first heard of the show when Fall Weather Friends had just come out.
ReplyDeleteBut the first episode was what made me actually want to watch the series.
Since Snips/Snails aren't an option, I'm going with Trixie for obvious and already stated reasons.
ReplyDeleteThe first episode that really hooked me was Suited for Success; though I joyously watched everything before it, that was the first episode that really made me stop and think about what had just happened on the screen. Rarity is such an interesting character sometimes. Plus, the music, directing and character designs (the outfits) are some of the best of the season, in my opinion. Insert 20% cooler reference here.
@the old poll - voted Friendship is Magic part one. I was converted when i was having a bad day and my bestest brony friend linked me to it. Love at first intro sequence.
ReplyDelete@the new one
Although I think the most DIRECT blame obviously lies with the guys who actually took things into their own hands, I voted Trixie.
She may not have directly brought the ursa down on everypony, but...
-she manipulated and strung along the two morons who idolized her
-she told a story that was both false, and dangerous to look into
-she was so polarizing and obnoxious that she created a rift between those who were impressed by her, and those who hated her guts
-she didn't even show any sign of repentance or even gratitude after Twilight saved her ass
-she only 'tried to defeat it' under extreme duress and with both her reputation and safety on the line, so that pretty much doesn't count
It's a grey area (the kind that helps make this show unique and awesome) but Trixie had a pretty big hand in it, mostly by taking advantage of the two dumb guys so that they were so fanboyish as to do something stupid to defend her honor.
inb4 Seth shuts down the site after Trixie is proclaimed guilty
Y U NO BLAME TRIXIE????????
ReplyDelete@TenchiFreak5
ReplyDeleteA Dog and Pony Show got me, and made me love Rarity. When she went into her "but I thought you WANTED whining" spiel I about cracked up... the next episode I saw was I think Cutie Mark Crusaders and I hated them so much because I wanted more Rarity!
Hey Seth, next poll should be a recollections of opinions and speculations about Derpy's background ( retarded, just wall-eyed, with a strange vocabulary...)
ReplyDeleteAlso it was Snips fault, Snails just went with his plan
I'll probably interpret Snips and Snails as at least partially Trixie, on account of how their falling for her boast is the reason why they brought the Ursa Minor. But I'll still respect the bronys that felt that Snips and Snails' ignorance was the most essential link that brought about disaster.
ReplyDeleteEpisode One sure was a Shocker for me, but in a Good Way! ;D
ReplyDelete...
I Thought Almost Everypony did something Wrong in Boast Busters.
Trixie shouldn't have lied, but she did not ask to bring the Ursa Minor to town. Therefore, I would have to place all property damage on Snips and Snails. While if Trixie hadn't lied, they wouldn't have done it, but they didn't even suggest they would bring the creature to Ponyville to anyone. As Trixie had no hand in it (except for being a show-off and lying), it would be unreasonable to say it's her fault. I don't see how it could be anyone else's fault, as no one else led Snips and Snails on to do it, and they did it of their own free will.
ReplyDeleteYou know I think Spike should be included on the list, HE was the one who told Snips and Snails to prove Trixie could defeat one.
ReplyDeleteBut I still have to say that it was Trixie's fault that the Ursa got loose, that's obvious. She boasted that she defeated one and if she hadn't Spike wouldn't have dared Snips and Snails.
I do admit that the mane cast was jerks to Trixie first, but she was worse to them by humiliating them. I think that they were just trying to show her that Ponyvilleians are just as good as she is.
For all the complaints that the pilot is weaker (IMO, it's not that much weaker, if at all) that I see wherever I go, it sure did create a lot of bronies.
ReplyDeleteI was actually sure I liked the show after FiM Part 2, but it actually took me until Winter Wrap Up (when I realized I was humming the song at work XD) to decide I was a brony.
I hate Snips & Snails, especially Snips as he looks like a squat, fat little naked man-pony... thing. Snails is somewhat redeemable, but as far this poll goes I'm dubbing them the Erik Harris and Dillon Klebold of Ponyville for their bullshit antics.
ReplyDeleteBanish them, then lock them in a cage where you banished them to, along with Twist to keep them company...
....FOREVER.
We need a positive colt character on the show that has more lines than "Ahyep"... Blueblood doesn't count since he's not a positive character, and neither do those little gremlins known as Snips and Snails...
ReplyDeleteEveryone had their own part to play.
ReplyDeleteTrixie boasted more than she had to, but she is a stage magician.
Snips and Snails, while it isn't their fault for having the intellectual capacity of a teaspoon, seemed a liiiitle too quick to idolise someone.
Plus the main (I REFUSE to spell it mane) cast was probably too harsh on someone who literally shows off for a frickin' living.
My $0.02.
Take all of it.
This just goes to show that it's really easy for a fanbase to ruin something?
ReplyDeleteNah, I kid I kid.
@Asgard314
ReplyDeleteI'll second that. Mr. Cake seems pretty on the ball, though.
For the last poll, it was Applebuck season. Which was also the first one I saw.
For this one, I'll put the whole Ursa incident on Snips and Snails. I thought the mane cast reacted a bit too harshly to Trixie at first. I don't expect a stage performer to be modest. Maybe that's a cultural bias...
Not that she helped to diffuse the situation at all.
Voted Wonderdolts.
ReplyDeleteTrixie was just doing a harmless show, and she stayed to try and fight the ursa when she could've just smokebombed and bailed instantly.
Main cast were just playing their part in Trixie's show; getting drawn in to heckle her and be humiliated in return. Kind of like a Jimmy Carr show. Except with magic. And ponies.
Obvious reasons it was Trixie who was the first to state that she was successful in defeating an Ursa 'Minor'(which she thought it was a 'Major') and thus hyping Snips and Snails to think and support for Trixie being all mighty and powerful.
ReplyDeleteBecause of this, Spike ambitions wanted to prove them wrong as he tried to case Snips and Snails into thinking that Trixie is a just a big phony, which stirred the duo into proving that Trixie too can handle an Ursa Major(Minor)
Everything falls into place as an Ursa Minor rampages into Ponyvile. No thanks to Snips, Snails, AND Spike. Yes, Spike. If he just let the act go, none of this would have happened.
Kinda felt sorry for Trixie after this. Even thought it was her fault in the first place but hey, that's show business. She just wanted to feel important and be part of something. Can't blame her for that. She just took it too far, that's all.
Fault for what? For Ursa Minor? Or for the whole episode? Or for chasing Trixie off?
ReplyDeleteIf Trixie weren't there, there would be no scenario to begin with.
The main cast pushed her with challenges for the tension that makes the episode work at all without feeling slow.
Snips and Snails brought the Ursa, which probably would have happened if Snips and Snails overheard Trixie talking to the BG ponies and not the main cast... And then Ponyville would be destroyed. Again.
Depends a tiny bit on perspective.
I'm always in on the children's programming because I have a strong interest in producing such shows myself. I'd witnessed the conversion of Discovery Kids to The Hub and I went on to check out what was gonna be shown on the new station. I was really digging shows such as Word World, Dinosaur Train, and Martha Speaks on other channels at the time.
ReplyDeleteI had heard about the new MLP before it aired and I was impressed with the simple but highly expressive and cute character designs. When the show actually aired I immediately noticed the effort and depth put into the scenes and their ground elements. I found the character interaction and the subtle humor highly attractive as well. So I'll go ahead and say that the pilot episodes got me into the show.
I really love the Pony and Dog Show episode and Rarity's dialogue in it, as well as the character development of both Rainbow Dash and Fluttershy in Sonic Rainboom. Developer interaction with the fanbase is also an immense plus to me, it's a wonderful progression and gives me a lot of hope for the series.
On the subject of the fanbase, it's always great to see a community that actually retains a lot of the cheerful and somewhat innocent tone of the show. Sure there's some stuff that most would consider undesirable but it's got its place and most of us seem tolerable of each other. I've thoroughly enjoyed much of the impressive and imaginative contribution from the community, such as the music, stories, games, ideas, etc. If anything were to have really gotten me into the fanbase, it's the fanbase itself.
This is the episode that made me a brony, and I also blame Snips and Snails, they were a couple of grade-A idiots.
ReplyDeleteIs it bad for me to ah... hate Snips and Snails with a passion?
ReplyDeleteOK, I have a theory. I think Trixie´s family was putting too much pressure on her to defend their honor. Somewhere along the way one of her relatives could have tried to defeat The Ursa Mayor but failed to do so, thus they became the laughing stock of the town and were forced to flee, so basically Trixie was their last hope, knowing what a powerful unicorn she is.
ReplyDeleteThe only reason that The Ticket Master was the episode that turned me into a brony was because it was the first episode I saw. I heard the the intro song from my roommate's room, went to investigate and laughed at him for watching My Little Pony (though not seriously since I assumed it was a joke or something). He told me it was the latest thing on Internet (how could I not have heard of it before? I'm almost always online whenever I'm not playing games) so I sat down and watched it with him...
ReplyDeleteAND I LOVED IT! (surprise surprise)
Trixie may be a traveling performer, but that usually doesn't involve humiliating your audience. If you're being heckled, you ignore it. That's called professionalism.
ReplyDeleteThe answer to the poll rests on "blame for what?"
If you're saying "why did a giant fucking bear show up?", obviously Snips and Snails are at fault, with a dash of Twi's insecurity for not stopping it sooner.
But if you're saying "who's to blame for the whole thing spiraling out of control", it's definitely Trixie. If she had put on a nice, peaceful magic show without making it some kind of contest, Spike wouldn't have bitched out S&S for believing her lies, and they'd have never even gone looking for the Ursa.
This might seem dumb, but can we get a "nopony" option on that poll? Or would that be a copout... I guess we have to assign blame somewhere.
ReplyDeleteNEXT POLL IDEA: Favorite mane six pony
ReplyDeleteIf Trixie didn't boast, nothing would happen in the first place, but it is her job to boast.
ReplyDeleteIf snips and snails wouldn't wake up Ursa Minor, nothing would have happened that involves Ursa Minor.
If Mane cast would enjoy the show as everypony else or just leave, nothing would possibly happen anyway, but let's not forget that Trixie boasted about herself defeating Ursa Major anyway so Grylls (see what I did there?) could have been awaken anyway.
The only reasonable option here is to blame all of them.
Everypony is at fault!
ReplyDeleteIt's obvious the Great and Powerful Trixie has had her act for a long time, so most of the time most people must like it.
A lot of the ponies seemed to enjoy it before some of them started booing her.
Spike put the idea of proof in Snips and Snails heads.
The Great and Powerful Trixie seemed a little stressed after the show, I reckon she had never had such a negative reception before, and was shaken up.
Those morons Snips and Snail decided to bring an Ursa to town, cause they're dumb.
Trixie gave up too easilly, she could probably have summoned that lightning storm on the wreckage of her cart, detonating any remaining fireworks and the Ursa with it (along with half of ponyville).
So in the end, I blame the pony that signed up the road to Ponyville, if he had never signed up the road, Trixie would have never found Ponyville, and none of this would have happened.
I was hooked from the start. The pilot admitted things I was even thinking. Like, "OMG, this is amazing". I had to see the second part of the pilot. And then the next episode, and the next, and then I was completely hooked. :D
ReplyDeleteAs obnoxious as Trixie was, she didn't intend for an Ursa Minor to actually rampage through the town. I think it's standard fare for showpeople (and showponies) to brag and boast.
People paid to see P.T. Barnum's acts (showman and founder of Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus) even though many knew he was a scam artist. People often knew they were going to get snookered but didn't care precisely because he made a really, really entertaining story out of it. As long as the crowd left entertained, then that's all that mattered. :)
That said, I put all the blame on Snips and Snails.
The poll got me thinking, coz the first episode I saw was Winter Wrap Up and then I decided to start watching from episode 1, and by the time I was done with the first two episodes I already felt like I'm in love with this show, but in the end I gave credit to Winter Wrap Up.
ReplyDeleteI think deep inside I was already hopelessly lost when I heard the song :)
I got pre-hooked in the hub commercials (Before the hub started), then after trying episode 1 I got slightly inticed, wanting to see what happened next. The next part enticed me further, but curiosity kept me on by a thread, since others may be not as interesting. Boast Busters and Bridle Gossip finished me off.
ReplyDeleteI feel kinda bad now. I had a co-worker at work who is a Trekie like me and we were talking about Q. I mentioned the interview with John De Lancie voicing Discord and mentioned how similar the two characters were. This was about 2 months ago and he comes up to me today and tells me I turned him. The only thing I could say to that was slowly spreading the disease.
ReplyDelete
