• Nightly Roundup #17

I didn't have time to do a drawfriend today, which is scary, because I have actual work tomorrow, and drawfriend posts take forever even with only one day of stuff to build from!

This means no new Lyra for the image, sorry Phoe.

So have some Majoras Mask.   I downloaded that today, but an awesome person from here gave me Terraria on Steam, so now I have to go play that.  I already added the pony mod for it.

SCIENCE Needs Help in Determining the Best Episode to Convert Your Friends!

A while back, I linked an experiment on ponychan that was using SCIENCE to determine what the absolute best episode to show off and convert new bronies is.  I'm adding a poll to the side bar on the bottom right.  Here is some copypaste that they have requested I tell you before you go vote, because typing all of this out in my own words would take forever!

    • Don't vote for your favorite episode; vote for the one you believe will make the most people join the herd.
    • It is encouraged that you read the ponychan thread before voting to get an idea of what they're looking for, but nobody will know if you didn't.
    • These eight episodes were chosen by a recent poll on ponychan. If the episode you would have chosen isn't on the list, it's because it wasn't popular enough in the poll.
    • The people running the experiment still need more volunteers, so if you want to expose your friends and family to the glory of Equestria, say so with a tripcode and email address in the ponychan thread FOR SCIENCE!
So there you have it!  Now go help them out! You can find the ponychan thread here

UK Friendship is Magic Air Date and Time

A few days ago I had an announcement up about Friendship is Magic's big debut over in Europe.  It looks like boomerang will be rolling episodes out at 3:00 PM over in the UK.  No clue what time that is elsewhere over there in Europe, but I'm sure you guys can do the math!  You can find the page here

Protoss VS PONIES, Who Will Win?  War Organizer Needs YOU!

Someone over on Stacraft is creating a map based around Friendship is Magic, complete with an entire pony race.  He needs help from people that are experienced in skins and actors.  You can email him at this address if you are interested.

Ponies Invade Anthrocon, Furries Now at least 20% Cooler.

I know this is extremely controversial on several fronts, but I'm tired of answering emails about it.   Some crazy furry people have created Applejack and Rainbowdash costumes and paraded around a recent convention.  Have a youtube video!   No need to bombard this in comments!  I'm not really a fan of the culture thing either, but hey some of you apparently are so... yah!  Please just straight up ignore this if it isn't your cup of tea.  Or you can join the drama going on in the comments of the video instead!

Pony Toys Invade Peru!  Millions Fall to the Friendship Plague!

I promised Phoe I would make the headlines more interesting, but her 3 semesters of journalism definitely make me look like a blundering fool.  Sorry guys!

Anyway, pony toys are showing up over in Peru now.  You can find the video here!

New Key To Webcomic Success Found! Convert to Bronydom!

Another slew of comics has joined the herd.  Have some links!

This is Normal (As well as a few other comic pages!)
    Commander Kitty
    Memoria

Someone needs to convince Madmax to set up a site for all of her pony comics.  She would make a fortune in shirts and coffee mugs.

Saturate the World in Ponies One Birthday At a Time

Target is currently carrying FiM birthday cards for $2.99 a pop.  I admit, that Twilight Sparkle is cute and all, but I think a new vector of her would be pretty neat...  I mean, they could just raid Deviant Art for some!

Screw Attack Covers Ponies, Proves Gaming Websites are Way Cooler Than Real News Media

I'm glad at least some culture has absorbed the FiM so thoroughly.  Maybe we will see a pony game that isn't on [INSERT PORTABLE SYSTEM HERE] using [INSERT 30 DOLLAR ENGINE HERE].

Or they can just hire this guy.

You can find the Screw Attack article here!

Sky Pigs Adds Ponies, Becomes Relevant.

A flash game most of you have probably never heard of (But is surprisingly fun) has added a possible shout out to FiM.  These ponies look reaaaly familiar....

You can find the game here!

Dash Mark Shoes! I'm Tired of Headlines!

Phoe is crazy.  It's official.  I'm going to back into speed mode for the sake of not looking at the clock and wondering where the last hour and a half went, followed by the sudden realization that I still have 20 emails and an entire morning to schedule!  Have some Dash shoes from Kaji.

Wait Wait...Don't Tell Me Plugs Bronies Again.

That NPR game show thing invited Bill Clinton...and asked him questions about ponies.  The segment airs tomorrow, so I guess we will see how it all turns out?

    Equestria Daily News

    Media Archive Changes, Need Feedback!

There is a media archive over on the right hand side bar for those of you who didn't know about it.  Inside, you can find a PMV section that I don't think anyone uses.  It's also a pain to sort.

I'm considering just keeping specific sections of that archive, and axing everything else.   Trailers/PMV's are kind of pointless to store.  I don't really have a ton of quality control for the stuff.  The music section would be the least hit, since having easy access to 8bit brony and Eurobeat brony is really helpful.

What say you blog readers?  Do any of you actually use anything other than the story/art/news archives?

And that is all for tonight's news! This took forever, and I have a ton of other stuff to do, so feel free to email me a list of typos! Thanks!

    9. Furries have to ruin everything.

      VastaKustuta
    10. @Anonymous

We all knew that was going to happen, sooner or later.

      VastaKustuta
    11. I will admit that Rainbow Dash Furry was 20% cooler than any other furry I have ever seen, but that's not saying much.

      VastaKustuta
    12. Furries - Any more of this and I might just get over MLP.

      VastaKustuta
    13. Furries aren't THAT bad. Some of the nicest conversations I've had have been with them. They just end up getting a lot of flack for being more open about themselves.

And besides, the Cons are just places to get together and have fun with others. I personally don't see the appeal of the suits, but I can see why others might like it.

But I can't really change your opinion, so think what you will.

      VastaKustuta
    14. The media archive is useful for the music but besides that I don't really use it. Having some links to the games might also be useful. Seems to be quite a bit of work that went into that page for something so rarely used.

      VastaKustuta
    15. @Anonymous Hey, remember the brony way. Love and tolerate the shit out of them.

      VastaKustuta
    16. lol @ haters in pony fandom, I'm talking about the furry haters from some of the previous comments of course. Damn, get your heads out of your asses, stop spreading senseless hate (I'm not a furry myself by the way.) Ponies is about love and tolerance, furries don't harm society.

      VastaKustuta
    17. I honestly laugh at the bronies who hate furries and think they're bringing down the fandom.

NEWS FLASH: If you like My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, YOU'RE A FURRY!

Even if you don't want to dress up in costumes or draw a bunch of art or write a bunch of fanfiction, you're a furry for enjoying My Little Pony because the characters in the show are anthropomorphic animals (animals with human-like characteristics) and you think the show is neat or cool or awesome or whatever.

That's all the furry fandom is about is liking animals that walk and talk and act like humans. The people who dress up in costumes are just expressing their own way of liking animals, only about 1/10 (if even that much) of the fandom even dresses up in costumes.

So before you jump to conclusions on certain fan bases, do some research about the majority of the fandom, not the people who stand out. Besides, it's all in good fun =3.

      VastaKustuta
    18. wait wait... i predicted the return of ponies. HUNKER DOWN IN BUNKERS OF FREINDSHIP.

    21. I'm not into furries, but I don't understand all the hate against them. All I saw in the linked video was possibly the best and most accurate rainbow dash I've seen and it's not super creepy like the G3 pony musical costumes.

      VastaKustuta
    22. @Ezzekiel

sooo... if you are not a furry, you can't be a member of mlp-fim fandom.
That sounds a bit arrogant to me.

      VastaKustuta
    23. Furries were just like us once, don't give them crap.

      VastaKustuta
    24. Not to disappoint about not contributing to the furry debate, but what is the link to memoria trying to show case? The photo that is centered in my screen seems to have no reference to mlp

      VastaKustuta
    25. You people and your labels! I honestly couldn't give two hoots what people call me.

Sure there are plenty of creepy aspects to the furry fandom in general, but have you guys SEEN some of the MLP:FIM floating around in the interwebs?

On a technical note, Wikipedia seems fairly vague on what a furry is, other than liking "fictional anthropomorphic animal characters". Does that mean every Redwall / Narnia / Animorphs reader is a furry?

      VastaKustuta
    26. @Sethisto

    28. Wait, Wait didn't just have a pony segment with Clinton, they actually had a brony on to talk about the fandom. I was the intern for the show in 2006, and I emailed Peter Sagal (the host) after last week's show to let him know what I thought. I ended up doing a brief interview on this show about why MLP is good and bronies aren't weirdos.

Dunno how much of the interview they'll use, and who knows how I'll come off. But I tried to make us sound less like creeps and more like, you know, fans.

      Anyway, make sure to listen!

      VastaKustuta
    29. So how 'bout that AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

      VastaKustuta
    30. Guys, love and tolerate, love and tolerate. These guys are just having fun their way, a rather harmless way I must stress, and it's all good, really (I for one admire the amount of work they put into making those suits).

Oh, and I hardly ever check those archives on the right. I concur in leaving only the fanfic/art/news ones.

      VastaKustuta
    31. I think I speak for quite a few of us when I say please don't take down the media archive. It is a terrific reference page.

      VastaKustuta
    32. The comments in posts mentioning media coverage and furries prove to me that we are on a one-way road to becoming some strange hybrid of the furry fandom and /b/. We're represented by loud, self-conscious hypocrites who shove our opinions in the faces of people who don't want to hear them. Our idea of "love and tolerance" is annoying the hell out of people who don't like us with pony references, reaction images and raids, and it doesn't seem to apply at all to people we don't like yet did nothing to us. This isn't even mentioning the infighting.

You all might want to think a little harder about what this love and tolerance thing you like so much actually is. If not, have fun being an estranged embodiment of mutual hatred between yourselves and the rest of the internet.

      VastaKustuta
    33. ScrewAttack is late to this. The Escapist staff were thoroughly converted months ago.

      VastaKustuta
    34. I don't care what 'science' says. The pilot episodes are clearing the best introductory episodes.

      VastaKustuta
    35. @Anonymous The pilots have a lot of background info, but they're very different from the rest of the show. If someone watches the pilot episodes and gives up because they didn't like it, that's a terrible waste of a potential brony.

      VastaKustuta
    36. *Sigh*

Ok, I'll just answer the question: Seth, I admit I never use the PMV archibe. Pretty much only news, fanfic and very rarely art. I've even been using the event archive a bit as well since the NATG (even if I only send in one submission for it :P).

      VastaKustuta
    37. @LosthopeOfDuskCommon misconception. Furry doesn't necessarily mean porn.

      VastaKustuta
    38. Darn, Getting Rid of the FMV/Trailer section Just when I already started making FMVs

      VastaKustuta
    39. Those suits look pretty cool!

      VastaKustuta
    40. Getting upset that furries like ponies is really stupid, it's a show about talking animals, furries are the one group of people we know are going to automatically like the show, it's kind of their thing...

      VastaKustuta
    41. Re: "but I think a new vector of her would be pretty neat..."

Seriously! The show is made in flash, couldn't they just call the animation studio and get them to send something over? They wouldn't even need to make anything, existing footage has plenty of generic clipart poses that would be different from the same old.

      VastaKustuta
    42. Those costumes look pretty damn awesome. They must of taken forever to make.

      VastaKustuta
    43. That furry convention probably would have sucked if it weren't for the ponies...just saying.

      VastaKustuta
    44. "Hey everybody, Love & Tolerate all.....FURRIES, LETS GET THEM!"

      Seriously, what the hell people?
What's wrong with someone dressing up in a well made costume and having fun? You are all MLP fans, and I'm willing to bet you don't enjoy stereotypes about us?

Remember how we all reacted when news stations like Fox and NPR showed us in a bad light? Well that's exactly what some of you are doing right now to the furries and it's just wrong.

The amount of hypocrisy coming from some of you is just depressing. Some of you say furries will drive you away from this fandom? Well good, we don't need your hate here.

      VastaKustuta
    45. @Patriot Dash

It sucked anyway, it was a furry convention after all.

      VastaKustuta
    46. What the?.. These fursuits look better than official MLP toys! Goddamit, Hasbro, your fans put more work into this than you do.

      VastaKustuta
    47. They do take forever to make and cost a bit. I am a fursuiter as we like to call ourselves. there is probably about 600 plus dollars of materials in there. more if they put in cooling units. The costumes get very hot. And as Trixy says. Haters going to hate. If all your opinions are from media just step back and look how they have treated bronies and then think about what you have seen of furries. Your going to be terribly surprised to see it is the same thing. If you want to find a LARGE group of people who WILL NOT JUDGE you for being a Brony and embrace you and just want to be friends. Look to the Furries. If you want costumes. Hell no better group as they have been making them for decades. If you have been wanting to meet people they have monthly meetings in just about every city. some of the gatherings posted on here are actually Furry gatherings. like the Prancing Skiltaire one. put on by one of my best friends. My costume is in fact based on the creatures he created long ago for the fandom. Being furry is not a life style. people can make it one but then they can make wearing leather straps and a rainbow clown wig a life style too. Furries are hooves down the most diverse and welcoming group of random people I have ever known. If anyone out there understands love and tolerance it would be this multinational, multicultural, miltispecies group commonly referred to as Furries. Think on it a bit and take a page from Twilight Sparkle and do some studying before you get yourself in over your ears

      VastaKustuta
    48. @MintBerryCrunch

It's simply disturbing, especially if those are guys dressed up as female animal characters.

I'm not going to waste my time to explain why this whole furry thing is disturbing because if you think there's nothing wrong with it then you are hopeless.

Normal fans just ignored NPR and Fox, it was you insecure furries and ponychanners who were up in arms about it because you are unable to deal with criticism and haters.

Also the "love and tolerate" bullshit is 100% ponychan it doesn't apply to the whole fandom.

      VastaKustuta
    49. @Anonymous >guys dressed up as female animal characters.
Ahaha! They're girls, dude. It's not hard to see, either.

Let go of your hate. No one likes a petty bigot. Not cool.

      VastaKustuta
    50. Sorry for interrumpting your shitstrom but WOO HOO! my video in Equestria Daily FTW!

      VastaKustuta
    51. I'm not a furry, I'm just not an intolerant person who can't stand to see other people have fun in a way I don't.

"I'm not going to waste my time to explain why this whole furry thing is disturbing because if you think there's nothing wrong with it then you are hopeless."

The old fall back of people who have no idea what they're talking about.

      VastaKustuta
    52. @Anonymous

Umm. Most of the female fursuites are in fact filled out by female fursuiters. Not all of them but most. And do realize that even at places like Disneyland that is not always a female in the mini mouse costume and not always a guy in the Micky mouse costume. It is not about the person inside the costume and if your hung up on that your missing the whole thing. might as well give up animation because some of the voice actors are not the same sex as the characters they are voicing.

      VastaKustuta
    53. I bet those two fursuiters lived out their hottest Appledash fantasies later that day.
I also bet they are both dudes.

      VastaKustuta
    54. On the topic of choosing which MLP episodes are best for converting people to bronydom, looking at that thread, I'm realizing I'm kind of uncomfortable with the concept as a whole. It's one thing if you're briefly recommending episodes on the internet to someone you don't know, but what if you're trying to convert someone who you're already friends with?

The thing is, there's a lot of different factors that come together to make up MLP as a whole. All at once, the show is a comedy, drama, and action series, but not every episode focuses on each of these factors equally (nor should they), and not everyone is going to enjoy each of those aspects equally. There's also a lot of specific features that make MLP unique and are a big contribution to why people like the show, but they don't really appear in every episode, and sometimes they don't even appear more than once.

Some episodes focus a lot on the unique characteristics of the mane six (The Ticket Master), others focus more on the relationships between specific ponies (Fall Weather Friends), and some barely feature the mane six at all (The Show Stoppers). Some episodes involve going off on grand adventures (Friendship Is Magic), others stick close to home (Look Before You Sleep). Some episodes feature epic musical numbers (Suited for Success), but not all of them do. Some episodes are focused more on world-building, showing off what makes Equestria different from Earth (Winter Wrap-Up). Most episodes' morals involve general advice about friendship, but some episodes tackle bigger issues (Over a Barrel). Some episodes also tread darker territory than the others (Party of One). Some episodes have Fluttershy voiced by a black guy (Bridle Gossip).

The first episode I happened to watch was Call of the Cutie, which most people would probably consider to be a terrible first episode, due to the lack of focus on the mane six, among other things. However, it appealed to me, because it showed me that MLP could have an episode that was essentially about reaching puberty, but was subtle about it, did it in a way that made perfect sense within the context of the world of ponies, and managed to tie it into broader themes about finding yourself as an individual. By contrast, I've seen Dragonshy mentioned a lot as a good first episode, but I don't even like that one very much. Partly because I'm not really into plots based on "let's go fight a giant monster", but I also thought Fluttershy's characterization in that one seemed forced.

I just think that if you're going to introduce the series to someone you know, it'd make a lot more sense to think about what types of stories generally appeal to that person, and then pick an episode or two that show what MLP has to offer in those areas. I don't think there's any single episode that is "indicative" of what the whole show is about, because the show is a lot of different things, and tends to change from episode to episode.

      VastaKustuta
    55. @Anonymous

ROTFLMAO. I bet they did nothing of the like. the whole idea of getting it on in fursuits is a complete made up thing by CSI. those suits are way too expensive and way to hot(temperature wise) not to mention they really restrict movement and the ability to see.

      Rage War! WOOT.
So let me entirely ignore Seth's commands and post here anyways.

This "'love and tolerate' bullshit" was not invented on Ponychan. It was invented on 4Chan as a way to combat parasprites. Never had anything ever been so effective against parasprites. It's even goddamn better than ignoring them.

However, people didn't realize that this was only meant for parasprites. (Notice that Loving and tolerating isn't always used in the show. Sometimes you have to take a firm stance against something. [Oh, Nightmare Moon is going to reign eternal night. Oh, that's Okay. We wouldn't want to intrude on her belief system. We have to tolerate her, and that obviously means we should sacrifice the good of the community for her unique belief that night should reign forever.])Look at Dragonshy. Sometimes you have to stand up for your friends.
Now, on to Furries. While I do have to admit that it weirds me the fuck out how people go around wearing fursuits and such, I don't have anything against actual furries. What I do have is a fear. A fear that is frighteningly becoming possible. The fear that the fringe segments of Bronydom (Hint: Rule 34 and Furries. . . and Rule 34 Furries) will outspeak the more moderate center of bronydom. And the media will latch onto to these fringe groups, and utterly destroy our reputation.

But Anon, who cares about our reputation why would it matter what other people think of us?

Why thank you for asking that Mr. Strawman. Let me answer. Hasbro cares. If MLP gets enough bad publicity then its going to affect sales. While it seems weird (Nobody listens to the news anymore.) there are too many people that will stop watching the show/ buying products. There may be a huge boycott/protest thing from moms. Either way, Hasbro won't be happy and they'll pull the plug on the show. And then that's it. Because we let the fringe parts of bronydom speak for the rest of us, we lost what brought us together in the first place-- no, not lover and tolerance, a love of a good show. We must always remember that at our core we are a fandom that lives in a broken world.

Anyway, Furries: The internet's not strong ground these days. Bronydom is pretty much just taking off. Watch your step with your art, fic or animations. The last thing we want is for the frienship to sink because of one bad image.

      VastaKustuta
    60. Fall Weather Friends doesn't seem to get much votes. Too bad, because the hitchhikers guide to the galaxy references in there really proved to me, that the writers were not afraid to use jokes that would go over the children's heads. Dragonshy seemed a bit more simple minded, but at least is has all the characters prominently featured.

Yeah, most of the point of that quiz is that they're taking some high-profile individual and essentially wasting their time by asking them totally irrelevant questions. It's supposed to be a mockery. :)

And so is the rest of the show, really - everything they do, they're just playing for laughs, including making jabs at bronies. Heck, when Ron Schiller stuffed both feet straight into his mouth by saying that NPR shouldn't get public funding, they had a field day making jabs at him and NPR in general.

    74. ...I find it really funny how many of you guys are responding to furries in exactly the way you *don't* want bronies to be represented. The fandom is bigger than the fringe, and it treads very closely to bronydom.

Also, while fursuiting might be a bit strange, I have a hard time seeing a difference between it and cosplaying -- harmless fun from the fans of something. Much less creepy than, let's see...RULE 34 OF A CHILDREN'S CARTOON. As a random nonspecific example.

      VastaKustuta
    75. Bronies on the topic of brony-haters:

"They're just intolerant and ignorant. They're ignorant because they can't get past their preconceived notions of what's socially acceptable to see that our enjoyment of this is genuine and completely normal. They're intolerant because they can't just let us be if they don't like it; they have to attack us and label us and make what we do into something despicable."

      Bronies on furry-bronies:

"Get the **** out of my fandom. You're beyond love and tolerance, you sick *****. I can't stand to like the same thing that you like."

      VastaKustuta
    76. Seth--I use the media archives fairly frequently to find funny YTP, all of the music, and the Parody/Commentary serials.

    77. There's a lack of love and tolerance in this thread. Hmm...

Oh, well. We totally need a Pony-Terraria group going on.

      Nice roundup in general, though.

      VastaKustuta
    78. @Anonymous
That IS a really good comment but I'm going to have to disagree with it.

First of all, like you said, loving and tolerating is a way to combat trolls. However, saying th at furries are lesser people IS trolling. Not to mention loving and tolerating is already a good thing to do. With your Nightmare Moon example, they weren't saying that she was a lesser person for believing the night should last forever, they were stopping her from infringing on the natural rights of others because no sun = everyone dead.

With the second part of your response, all a brony is is someone who likes MLP:FiM and at least tolerates love and tolerance. We know this to be true and it is NOT going to change without our sayso. If, instead of trying to hide the" negatives" such as fursuiting and rule 34, you enforce the truth that being a brony does NOT mean you like rule 34 and fursuiting but that liking those things is not wrong and does not mean you are not a brony, then only the most ignorant of individuals would associate bronies with these negatives.

The rights of the individual should ALWAYS go above the good of the community unless there is a mass vote. Even though I myself may frown upon some of the things bronies do I will still defend their right to do so. As hard as it seems, try putting yourself in their shoes.

Tolerating does not mean supporting, it means to not infringe upon someone right to believe and do what they want to as long as it does not infringe upon the rights of others.

      VastaKustuta
    79. @Anonymous

We've already been accused of being pedophiles and mass fraud; I don't think we can be labeled much worse.

    80. This was a pretty cool roundup. Also, just fyi, MLP:FiM has taken the title of "#1 most popular meme" on KnowYourMeme, and also became the first to break 2 million pageviews, narrowly beating Forever Alone. The bronies over at KYM are currently in party mode. :D

Also, I do sometimes use the media tab, but if it's a huge burdern on you, then I can always just do a search on Youtube anyway. 83. For having 'ruined' anything, those were the best fan-costumes I've seen yet. I think t even tops Iron Man Principal in Taiwan.

They're far-better made than the last Dash costume we saw, they aren't even remotely deplorable like the Ponies on Ice costumes...

And for each of you complaining about furries ruining anything, there are thousands more out there crying out that ponies are ruining everything.
Do you really want the fandom to fall so far that we're calling others' interests corruptive and demeaning to anything when they're all doing the exact same thing?

Equestria has shown that they at least [b]TRY[/b] to get along with other cultures and accept them for their differences, but you're all turning into ponies who immediately lash-out at those differences.

Everypony needs to keep in mind that the large majority of you are males who are in love with a girls' show about semi-anthropomorphic ponies. That's two genres that many of you otherwise wouldn't have interest in. And don't even try to deny any form of anthropomorphism in the show. They talk, they use their hooves almost as hands, they practically live the ideal, peaceful life that humans just won't allow because that would involve accepting cultural differences you don't like.

If there's something you don't like, don't start shouting 'Oh, that's ruining the world, it's going to destroy everything it touches,' just simply say 'I don't like it,' and move on.

      [insert insane Rarity laugh here]

      VastaKustuta
    86. @Filiecs Because that works so well. People focus on the extremes, and only the extremes. That's why furries have a bad name, because people only focus on the rule 34'ers and the fursuiters. They completely ignore the sane among the group in order to make it seem as if THE ENTIRE GROUP is like that. This happens with everything. Ask a random person on the side of the road about Muslims, and odds are you will hear something about how they are all terrorists and they all want to kill you... Extremism is an easy way to get mass hate going for something.

      VastaKustuta
    87. Furries are not as bad as you think they are guys. There are a lot of them working in animation for example, they just don't let people know because, well, for obvious reasons.

Furries are just people. And by the way, you write SHIPPING stories. If you're grossed out by the sexual side of furries, well, your shipping stories gross ME out.

      VastaKustuta

    90. Okay I don't hate or love furries, but I tolerate them.

...however I would hug that Rainbow Dash SO hard.

      Complete. Global. Ponification.

      VastaKustuta
    91. I think for the lulz we should make Bill Clinton a Brony and an OC pony for him LOL

      VastaKustuta
    92. The more of a big deal you make about this, the worse MLP:FIM fandom will become. I will use furry fandom as an example, but I'm not saying they're bad people.

I understand the fear because as a furry myself, I watched the furry fandom grow froma handful of talented artists ( mostly animators in southern california ) become a sewer of child pornography, zoophiles, and diaper-wearers.

You can either tolerate that, or make it known you don't want that crap on your website. I applaud Seth for keeping this the BIGGEST pony blog, CLEAN.

What? The cartoon ponies in the show are anthropomorphized. They talk, use their hooves like hands, live in towns, build houses, wear clothes, form systems of government and society, read, etc.

Did anthropomorphic come to be a dirty word once people started associating it with furries?

      VastaKustuta
    103. @Anonymous

      EXACTLY!
However, we have no right to stop it and it will always exist no matter what.

So, instead of confirming their claims by shunning it and being ashamed of it, (thus allowing them to use the logic "they are embarrassed so it must all be true") be embracing of it and enforce the truth in order for us to be true to the "weird" people , true to ourselves, and have the moral high ground.

I have nothing against furries. However, adding to anon's point. Letting an outspoken few who are oblivious to social stigma be too vocal or in this case - too visual with their antics gives our attackers obvious points of attack.

Pretending it's not an issue will only spoilt them.

There's a limit to social acceptance. Why do you think Equestria Daily and Ponychan tries staying clean?

    110. >Really? With the giant singing number? Over A Barrel would've been a much better choice, with the realistic and mature storyline.

Really? With the gag-inducing baby-talk to a tree, intentionally terrible singing number, and lousy bit characters? If I had been shown Over A Barrel to start with, I would have never touched the rest of the season. It is by far my least favorite episode of the season.

      VastaKustuta
    111. @Anonymous
Yeah, that limit is when it starts infringing on someone elses rights or if it goes against something that everyone has voted upon. Frankly, though, we haven't had a mass vote that bans furries and public image is not a right. So everyone just needs to deal with them.

      VastaKustuta
    112. Ok first off President Clinton did a good job of ansering the quiz questions.. and it seems they watched the Pilot Episodes.

Secondly, though technically in the furry fandom in the broad sense, you are as furry as you want to be, deny it if you want, but join in if you want.

As an Equine Furry myself, I would welcome anyone into the herd as y'all have welcomed me in this herd.

Haters are going to hate, but as with the Bronie community, there are going to be that 1% of folks that will cause 99% of the trouble.

      VastaKustuta
    113. Late to the party as usual (incidentally I was out shopping for ponies) but I have a question about the recent poll.

Why doesn't Friendship is Magic Part 1 & 2 on the poll? I honestly think they serve as better introductory episodes (introduces characters in their own individual way, some of the world's mechanics, and of course has real conflict in it) so why all these other introductory eps?

Sorry if it's been asked before, didn't feel like reading through the comments

      VastaKustuta
    114. The first two episodes were excluded I think because they're so unlike the rest of the episodes. If you read the ponychan thread, you can find the reasons they excluded the others. Usually the reason comes down to one of: not representative of the series, focuses on one-time characters, focuses on the CMC, potentially controversial, or too "girly."

I had a really hard time choosing between Applebuck Season, Dragonshy, Fall Weather Friends, Sonic Rainboom, and Party of One -- those five in particular are all really good conversion material. I think one thing to consider is which direction you want to nudge your convert in. Trying to make them an Applejack fan? Start with Applebuck Season. A Fluttershy fan? Start with Dragonshy. A Rainbow Dash fan? Start with Sonic Rainboom. A Pinkie Pie fan? Start with Party of One.

      VastaKustuta
    115. @Anonymous
Because the first three episodes are already part of the experiment. This poll is to determine the other three to use.

Because they think that a couple of 'look at the weirdos' articles from the mid 1990's were accurate and are not aware that they were pretty much made up out of whole cloth.

Or worse, they were given the claims of those articles second, third or moreth hand as if they were true.

That covers most of the 'furry hatred'. There's a bit more 'attack the small group to make us look better' in there, but that's not a big influence except in some longer time members of SF fandom.

There are also a number of stories going around about how badly behaved people are at furcons: Most of those stories come from one particular con and have a lot more to do with the other group at the convention center bringing in an entire brothel's worth of prostitutes than anything any of the furries did.

Personally, I'm amused by the people who freak out at the fact that there are active members of furry fandom in MLP fandom, while also raving about the stuff those very people from furfandom are creating for MLP.

      VastaKustuta
    123. @Anonyrnous

*Brushes aside various bottles of hand and body sanitizer, steps up onto crate*

That comic tries to make the case that most of the legitimate "hate" for furry fans is for the ones who cry persecution for weak reasons. This sentiment can be understandable too an extent, but all too often I find it's not just that. There are a lot of random hateful comments that tend to show up and are worded in such a way that suggest it is more than just a dislike of a certain crowd's supposedly weak persecution complex.

All that being said, it still doesn't change the basic facts that people who enjoy anthropomorphic artwork or even cosplaying as anthro characters are just fellow geeks with their own fandom and many also cross-over and enjoy other fandoms like, well, all of us do. I myself dabble in many various fandoms. We're all just people attracted to different and imaginative and creative things. There is no real reason to hate on any particular group of people unless said group can be shown to empirically cause harm to others on a physical and or emotional level.

In short. An it harm none, do as though wilt, and enjoy your existence while it lasts.
