• MLP Facebook Page Becomes Awesome

This is one of those X:30 news posts that doesn't really qualify as news, but was certainly a nice little treat to wake up to just now. Usually the My Little Pony facebook page sends out pretty benign status updates, like asking parents what their kids favorite episode is. This was an interesting change of pace, to say the least. And look at those Likes! Almost five hundred in forty minutes. Yes, I was one of them.

Stuff like this just makes me more excited to see what kind of subtle nods the fandom gets in season two.

    10. I liked and commented, anything to let Hasbro know we're a pretty huge part of the fanbase so hopefully they'll release merch accordingly.

But you know, whatevs. The shirts they had were born that way, and they were pretty adorbs. I dunno lol, I just <3 it.

Ok I'm done, anyways, that's awesome stuff up there, and anon 10:45 should be braver, closet bronies aren't nearly as fun.

Didn't work that way for me. My sister thinks it's weird and my mom pretty much thinks I'm a pedo.

    14. Is this the official Hasbro or Hub facebook page or just one of many fan-created facebook accounts?

BTW side note. Looks like an official DVD set is out although I think it's one of those DVD sets meant for movie rental places, not general public

    20. @Anonymous:

Brony was on /co/, along with /co/lts. But after /b/ picked up the massive following they adapted brony to /b/rony.

They stole the damn name. :(

    22. @Sorrowful: It looks like it's the official company page.

I'm not sure that's an official DVD set. The "season pass", "episode", and "rental" breakdowns (and the itunes link) make me think that's the price to buy/download the digital copies of the episodes.

    28. The term Brony doesn't mean you are from /b/ and like the show. It practically applies to all the male/female fans of the show although some wish to have a separate name for female signs of the show

      ReplyDelete
    29. @Anonymous

Okay... Don't have iTunes so the whole 'season pass' and 'rental' thing didn't make sense

Yup.. That's definitely the company page but I have to wonder when they do things like post this:

official cupcakes episode? dear god what?

    36. I think hasbro is trying to found out how huge our fanbase is. So, if it's liked enough, meaby Hasbro starts condsidering us worthy enough target group for merchandise.

    42. Jayso, if you read this:

Last month was pretty rich for many events regarding MLP community and
the show. Hasbro launched some commercials aimed to non-TA (target
audience) fans, opened Twitter and Facebook group. There even some new
merchs and t-shirts appears on the horizon, made specially for
      "bronies".

Within all those months some parts of the large MLP community
      very
carefully watched all your public words or any words from any other
team member regarding the show. But the question that did pop-up
during all those events i mentioned never was answered: how all of
this will affect the show, especially s02?

You may be will be surprised but many fans in the community do not want
any such fanservice or references to bronies in the show itself. And
I'm not talking just about "Ponygoons" (part of the community that
considered to be the "cleanest" one), but about some EqD crowd and
      4chan as well: http://i.imgur.com/qwquZ.png (4chan compilation, NSFW)
They want to show be as it is, without any small "nods"
to some fandom theories and memes, like: Trollestia, "leasbianship"
("shipping", relationship between characters in general) and
"Cupcakes" (latter is fanfic, long story short: Pinkie goes
crazy and torture and kills all her friends). While Derpy isn't
something that anyone can be against, any small "nods" (we do
understand that nothing can be added directly during post-production) to
the things I mentioned is pretty much hurt much the show for MANY fans.

      ReplyDelete
    43. @Anonymous

I have the same fears as mentioned, but I don't see Bronys having anything more then background nods in S02, such as Derpy or abacus appearing in the bg of episodes.

I think this because the TA just wouldn't get it. And like you said would hurt the show for Bronys as well as the TA.

The fact that she's been watching your wall means that she's probably interested in you. Just play it cool and don't get embarrassed that she knows you like the show.

    45. Were i on facebook, I'd like that

      ReplyDelete
    46. @Anonymous

Don't worry too much about it, I don't think they would do such a thing, it would ruin the show.

      ReplyDelete
    47. I have my privacy settings so locked down I could "Like" "murdering kittens with a chipper shredder" and one of my friends or relations would see it.

Only use for facebook is to set up game nights and such, never post to my wall or put up photos at all.

(BTW, they're closing in on 2000 "Likes" so Woo Hoo!)

It's not entirely unreasonable -- I know Mattel has been marketing high-end "for the adult collector" edition Barbie for quite some time.

    53. @Anonymous
You've got to be kidding, right? So these people think just because Hasbro is aware of Bronies and has acknowledged it people are going all hipster-y about it and already thinking Season 2 is going to be bad before they even see it?! I think everybody should be smart enough to know that the jokes we have that might mess with the show's TA appeal aren't going to be canon or outright shown.

And just FYI, Trollestia is /kind of/ based on canon. She likes to mess with her subjects, just look at "Bird in the Hoof" and "Ticket Master" or "The Best Night Ever". Cupcakes will NEVER be canon and I don't even think that it will ever be referenced (aside from the eerie parallels in "Party of One"). And the fandom will ALWAYS have shipping. Every fandom does. The creators and writers usually ignore this.

      ReplyDelete
    54. @Rockabore Most bronies are old enough to remember shows across the past two decades that acquired a following similar to FiM, where the second, third etc. seasons were pretty much ruined by too much fan service.

Not implying anything, mind, but it has happened before, and the fear is there that it could happen again.

      ReplyDelete
    55. Just tell Hasbro, we like the show the way it is, don't try and change the appeal.

If it ain't broken don't fix it.

      ReplyDelete
    56. @Fox E:
Good point, that makes me think of how Heroes started out with a bang, had tons of fans and the show made a big deal about fan involvement. But seeing how that eventually turned out I can see why it should make creative teams for popular shows use caution when they do have big involvement with fans.

But, yeah, while it's possible that could happen with MLP:FiM, I don't see the point in so many fans getting so upset enough to expect the next season to fail before it's been given a chance. I just don't see the point in assuming the worst of a show that's been so fun.

I reposted this in the "ask Jayson a question" article. I agree with you wholeheartedly. I don't think we should worry much since I can't think of too many shows that bowed to fanfic/shipping. Most shows normally let the creators make the show they want, not want the fans want. And I rather disassociate with the more radical and rabid fans. I think the Equestria Girls song went far enough. While I'm not against Derpy the character we have "created," but if Derpy ends up getting named Derpy Hooves in the show, I'm out. Ditzy Doo sounds much better and less controversial.
