The MLP Facebook page has dropped a pretty interesting response to a question about DVD's.
Hopefully this means they are either already in progress, or working on the legal technicalities.
Regardless, I hope some special features pop up!
You can find the facebook thing here!
And thanks to shelldon for the report!

I don't have a facebook, what does it say?
ReplyDelete@Themasterofb
ReplyDeleteThey are officially working on them
It's about freaking time!
ReplyDeleteThis is a thing I am buying.

You gotta love how they assume the five year old is a boy.
ReplyDeleteI don't have a facebook so I can't see. foreveralone.jpg
ReplyDeleteWoo-hoo! DVD's are coming :D I doubt will get a complete season, but we can always hope. For now, I hope the DVDs will be Blu-Ray discs.
Awesome news.
ReplyDelete(crossing fingers)Please let there be a "making of", commentary tracks and a sneak peek of Season2.
Commentary tracks would indeed be the best thing ever.
ReplyDeleteI would buy this, but then my parents and brother would be undoubtedly tipped off.
ReplyDelete*sigh*
I wish I was out living on my own. I hate still being in high school :(
@ultra8
ReplyDeleteThis.
I really want some behind the scenes stuff, especially involving the voice actors.
Your five year old and a whole lot of twenty-somethings!
ReplyDeleteIf these don't have behind the scenes I will be deeply upset.
ReplyDeleteYesyesyesyesyesyesyes!

ReplyDeleteI want commentary by the ponies them selfs! I don't know if they would do that, maybe for one episode or the first two or something
ReplyDeleteHis 5-year old = codename for himself?
ReplyDeleteI would totally buy a DVD/Bluray of this though. Bonus features are the best.
~Dark~
Who runs the MLP Facebook page, anyway?
ReplyDelete@PeaceIsCloser
ReplyDeleteHasbro
Yeah.. its for.. my 5 year old boy.. yeah..
ReplyDelete@zZDarkMemoriesZz
ReplyDeleteNah it was a mom that asked. She had a young boy and girl in her picture. I assume it's really for her daughter and not her son though.
@crazyredemu Like when CN released the Samurai Jack DVDs, some of the behind the scenes stuff were narrated by Aku and he kept mispronouncing Genndy Tartakovsky's name.
ReplyDeleteI'm buying this and my public embarrassment won't stop me.
ReplyDeleteYeah, my inner child demands DVDs too.
ReplyDelete@crazyredemu
ReplyDeleteShout will more then likely be handling this release as they're Hasbro's go to guys. They listen to fans all the time so if enough people request it on the forums there is a good chance they'll at least look into it.
Finally. I will buy this for sure, no excuses.
ReplyDeleteThis actually got me excited. I know I'm overthinking it but I would love to believe lots and lots of bronies will storm the stores for it, which will be the ultimate proof for Hasbro that we have money and we are willing to spend it if they provide the right merchandise.
I love Shout! their SATAM boxset is a thing of beauty. Still need to get the Sam & Max cartoon boxset from them.
ReplyDeleteIf Hasbro wasn't run by Chimpanzees this would've been done this a loooooooooooong time ago.
ReplyDeleteBetter late than never I suppose.
Five year olds watch this show?
ReplyDeleteDVDs aren't enough, there had better be BluRays.
ReplyDeleteI can't wait. I don't care who sees me buying these or sees them on my shelf, I'm so getting these DVDs.
ReplyDeleteIf these "DVDs" are actually Blu-Rays I'll forgive Hasbro for Pink Celestia. On the other hand if they're only being released in shit DVD format, I will go to the Hasbro headquarters and bludgeon whoever is responsible for the MLP merchandise for repeated incompetence and idiocy.
ReplyDeleteThis is the best news ever. I want this badly.
ReplyDeleteSadly,i can't get it.... Curse you social stigmas! (i think that's the word)
And being somewhat poor... Curse that too.
@ Anonymous
ReplyDeleteHow's that "love and tolerance" thing within for ya?
@Anonymous
ReplyDeleteDoes that mean they're doing everything themselves? Or does "we're working on it" mean they're trying to get a home video deal?
Personally I'm patient. I understand Hasbro has doubts.
ReplyDeleteLet's be honest, noone would have expected 20-30 year olds will get hooked on the show. We weren't the target audience at all. Also, this is spreading on the internet, from a corporate view it IS very hard to get any reliable data and feedback from an internet dwelling subculture so I don't blame them for not rushing to reorganize their entire MLP production line.
Give them time. First some recolors. Small molded figures. Maybe a DvD. They are experimenting now.
If they see the raw numbers of how many copies were sold they will surely consider giving us more and more merchandise aimed for bronies.
After all, Hasbro is not Santa Claus. They want profit. I have read an article some months ago that Hasbro is having a very bad time so far this year, lots of losses, so they will not rush into anything they are not certain of.
Blu-Ray please!
ReplyDeleteI'm not surprised they're working on DVDs, but I would be surprised if they're actually any good. As in, not in volumes, loaded with special features and behind the scenes stuff, good artwork, limited editions, etc. That would surprise me.
ReplyDeleteBetter be blu-rays too damn it, I'm tellin' ya. I need my ponies in hd, no less will do. :/
ReplyDelete@Anonymous
ReplyDeletehttp://www.shoutfactory.com/community/4119/thread.aspx
Keep in mind that Shout! Factory mostly does retro stuff. I don't know if Paramount still has DVD ties with Hasbro.
@Ewyndall
ReplyDeleteYeah I haven't looked exactly into it but the Hub isn't doing as well as expected and they put a lot of money into it.
Not only that, stores fucked them with Transformers. They let shelves stay empty waiting for movie toys and the toys were really hard to find because most stores had bare shelves. The shelves that weren't bare were left mostly untouched because Transformers are expensive high-end toys and most kids only want the movie figures.
And GI Joe? Well it's not doing so well. The same figures are on shelves for months because most parents would rather buy the cheap knockoffs at this point.
The Marvel toys are shelfwarming too at my local stores. Especially Thor toys. The awesome large toys especially seem to be shelfwarming.
They have big competition this year too. After a few years of shelfwarming Power Rangers seems to be selling pretty well this year with toys constantly restocked. If not for Dark of the Moon toys it might have even regained it's number one status. The DC toys are currently the best selling collectors line. And girl toy wise, very few girls would choose a My Little Pony or Strawberry Shortcake toy over a Barbie.
So yeah I'd imagine it's a bit rough for Hasbro right now. They should have just stayed with Cartoon Network and taken that block they were originally going to start over there. It would have been a better business choice then The Hub. It's sad too because The Hub has a lot of awesome shows and is really catering to famlies and the nostalgia crowd right now.
I hope they have commentary and fix the animation errors (other than Derpy of course)
ReplyDeleteTotally excited!
ReplyDelete@Anonymous
ReplyDeleteWe could get one-disc volumes if we're lucky.
Oh but Dark of the Moon will probably make them a ton of money and really help them out. Haven't looked in toy stores lately but I'm sure the toys are flying off the shelf again like ROTF and the original film. And then after that Transformers goes back to warming pegs.
ReplyDeleteI think we think there are a lot more of us than there actually are.
ReplyDeleteYes! Yes!
ReplyDeleteHeck yeah, DVD!
ReplyDeleteI'll go into any story that may have the for sale and, if they're gone, I'll assume that the bronies bought them, not the 5 years old. :D
About them bring Blu-Rays, I'm not sure I have a player for that...
@Anonymous
ReplyDeleteNo there are a lot of us. That hit count over there is high, and we've dominated every thing on Know Your Meme's charts. The MLP page is what 4-5 times as large as the other pages? And the fandom is growing with everyday.
And that's not taking into account the kids that will watch it.
I just hope it's full season box set instead of "favorite/themed episodes" crap. I also hope it comes in blu-ray
ReplyDelete@Anonymous
ReplyDelete50,000-100,000 (guessing here, since there are no hard numbers) may be a lot by internet terms, but it's just a drop in the bucket in situations like this. I think.
You know what would be amazing?
ReplyDeleteA commentary track of the characters discussing the events of a given episode. Have all the VAs and writers plan out the dialogue and play it over the episode.
I'd pay so much money to see that.
This is truly the best birthday present I've ever gotten :,)
ReplyDeleteWhat a great 16th birthday ive had today :D
If DVD's happen, we have a reason for using the Blu Ray Cover art!
ReplyDeleteI would be very impressed if the box-art is actually tolerable though. Hopefully it will just be the second version of the group shot which had Twilight with no legs.
Of all the things I pirate, this will not be one of them.... saving monies nao!
ReplyDeleteThis is probably the biggest and most wanted piece of Merchandise that I want from them outside of Season 2 lol.
ReplyDelete@Anonymous
ReplyDeleteDo the "best of" SpongeBob DVDs even have an actual theme anymore?
@Anonymous
ReplyDeleteLooked up the article, sadly it's in my mother language (Hungarian) so not gonna link it, but here's the essence of it.
In the first quarter of this year, the profit of Mattel (the number 1 toy company atm) dropped by 33% compared to last year's same period, which means a 16 million dollar loss.
Hasbro (no.2. toy company) got worse result. In the same period, they had a 71% loss compared to last year. 2010 Q1 their profit was 59 million, this year only 17 million.
Both companies explained the main problem is the rise of costs in production and the decrease in demand on the market.
Hasbro also mentioned something about costs for "product developement" (not sure if translateing well).
Anyways, that's why I'm saying we should be patient. Hasbro is having a hard time, all we can do now is supporting them by buying pony stuff while letting them know we want more and better stuff.
I need Blu-Ray, if I want SD I may as well stick to youtube (though I would still buy it to support the show >.>)
ReplyDeleteHe said X-Mass. It's like regular mass, but with more X.
ReplyDeleteAs long as there's a full boxset, those Blu-Rays will be mine!
ReplyDeleteTo Quote Fluttershy: You rock. (quietly) Woo-who!
ReplyDeleteI am so buying this. I hope it is Blue-Ray, I mean it has to be Blue-Ray. The show was made in HD to begin with so why not release it in High Definition? This is (or at least it will be at the time of its release) late 2011, I think most people have upgraded thier systems to Blue-Ray players.
Oh and there have to be extras. Commentary, interviews, behind the scenes stuff and making of's, animated story boards, the whole nine yards. Everyone puts that stuff on now.
And wow I think I just went all Pinkie Pie there for a minute. Whatever happens I will buy it first day. Then line up all my pony figures in front of the TV so they can watch themselves. And I can't believe I just said that.
I want blue ray but I don't know if they will
ReplyDeleteI mean its a flash cartoon ( A great one but still flash) you don't see those get blue ray very much as say Hollywood movies or Disney.
I think blue ray or not we should try and buy any movies that come out on dvd.
We need to support the show and this is the best way to do it!
Even if you embarrassed you could throw it in with a few random movies you find in the 5$ bin at wall-mart or something to cover yourself so you have no excuse
seriously guys even if it isn't HD super kewl blue ray we should get this in hopes that more sales = season 3
Blu-ray should be painfully easy for them to do; it's computer animation and broadcast in 1080p, so it's already at the proper resolution. The only hurdle is the extra cost on the discs themselves, and that's just $1.
ReplyDeleteSo how long do we give them after they officially announce DVDs without any blu-rays to match before we give their e-mail server a good old-fashioned brony accidental-DDOS with the "DUDE!?!?!" letters?
I love how the Hasbro guy who posted that assumed that they were for a boy.
ReplyDeleteYAY! I'm excited!
ReplyDeleteAnd for those unwilling to buy a DVD or BluRay in the store, keep in mind you can buy stuff online! :)
...I don't get Blu-Ray. I really don't. I mean, do you really need UBER HAYTCH-DEE for something like this?
ReplyDeleteAnywho. DVDs. Yes. DVDs. I will buy them. Despite having the episodes on my computer this very moment, I will buy them.
Hasbro DESERVES my money.
This better be a Blue ray. None of that DVD reformatted for your tv bullshit. I have already got all the episodes in 720p so any thing less and i am not buying it.
ReplyDeleteI want both, i dont have a good blu-ray pc player . . so i want dvds to rip to my phone. BUT I HAVE TO HAVE BLU-RAYS TOO!!!
ReplyDeleteDelta Pangaea said.
ReplyDeleteI don't get Blu-Ray. I really don't. I mean, do you really need UBER HAYTCH-DEE for something like this?
Yes Yes we do. I don't want to watch Low quality low bit rate ponies. This show is broadcast 720p. And DVD's are barely capable of doing that.
It also be cheaper for them to put it on Blue ray
as season 1 would just be 3 disc's not the 6 or so it be in DVD form.
DAY ONE BUY. I hope to Celestia there's commentary on the DVD's. Also hope it comes out within the next month or in time to be a good Christmas present.
ReplyDeletefinally!
ReplyDelete@Delta Pangaea
ReplyDeleteJust 'cuz you "don't get it" doesn't mean that other people don't.
DVDs are ALWAYS been a certainty; Hasbro simply wasn't going to tell anyone before they felt like announcing it. They certainly wouldn't have told someone that randomly e-mailed a customer service grunt asking about it.
DVDs will come out regardless, so we should try to push them for Blu-Rays, as well. Blu-Rays are a far better source for wallpaper-quality screenshots, fanvid footage, etc.
DVD resolution is, to be blunt, poor. It's a 14 year-old format, and while it's perfectly fine for casual viewing, it's altogether useless for anything more.
*Lives in Hungary*
ReplyDeleteBlueRay is still not common here. :(
It's spreading but not everyhwere yet.
I want this on DVD so bad! *sigh* too bad I'm in high school and don't have a job yet :/ (I probably will when the DVD comes out though). Also I have friends who would tease me for having it. Being the only brony-ette in your circle of friends sure sucks when you haven't told them yet >.>
ReplyDeleteI'm really hoping for a whole season dvd box set.
ReplyDelete"For my five-year old"
ReplyDeleteSure. We believe you. Liar.
OMIGOSHOMIGOSHOMIGOSHOMIGOSHOMIGOSHOMIGOSHOMIGOSH
ReplyDeletePre-ordered. The moment they let you reserve copies, I'm pre-ordering this. Deluxe edition with commentary and interviews from Lauren Faust, Daniel Ingram, Tara Strong, Ashleigh Bell, Andrea Libman, and Tabitha St. Germain.
And if there isn't a deluxe edition, I'm just not buying it.
@DavidReinold
ReplyDeleteReally?
Maybe you should adjust your expectations to be less demanding and unreasonable. This goes for a lot of you, quite frankly.
All that should matter is having the 26 episodes in pristine quality (or at worst, two 13-episode volume DVDs) and *maybe* one or two special features geared towards the periphery fanbase. Everything else is just an extra.
@Anonymous
ReplyDeleteThe five year old, a bunch of 20 year olds...
And at least one 40 year old.
there needs to a Blu-ray, DVD, Digital copy combo pack
ReplyDeleteI'll be buying at my first opportunity. That said, if it does come on Blu-Ray, that means I only get to watch it on my laptop, but I'm perfectly okay with this.
ReplyDeleteSHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY!
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh Oh my gosh Oh my gosh Oh my gosh Oh my gosh Oh my gosh Oh my gosh Oh my gosh Oh my gosh Oh my gosh Oh my gosh Oh my gosh Oh my gosh Oh my gosh Oh my gosh Oh my gosh Oh my gosh Oh my gosh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
ReplyDelete*boing*
ReplyDeleteShout Factory is doing it? YES! I hope they do it in a proper volume format and not just a couple episodes per disk. Good thing it's going to Shout Factory and not that abortion of a production company Rhino.
ReplyDeleteI don't know anybody besides PS3 owners who can play Blu-Rays actually, to clarify, the format isn't trying to replace DVD's is it? If it comes out on normal DVD, that's all I care about, but if it's Blu-Ray only I'll still buy it... I just won't be able to enjoy it.
ReplyDeleteI'd get a Blu-Ray player just for this. Do want!
ReplyDeleteOMG, I can't wait to get my hooves on a set of them!
ReplyDeleteAre the DVDs/Blueray discs on the market yet? *overly eager*
ReplyDelete*explodes*
ReplyDeleteMUST...HAVE.
...*explodes again*
@pmcollectorboy
ReplyDeleteRhino and Shout! were founded by the same people.
Wow, are you guys serious? You honestly think they give a crap whether you prefer Blu-Ray or DVD? They're giving us an inch, and you're ALREADY taking a mile. Most kids don't CARE or KNOW THE DIFFERENCE. Jeez, be happy they're even mentioning DVDs. I honestly don't see the difference, and I'm assuming I will get flamed for saying that, but it's my opinion.
ReplyDeleteJeez, we're starting to complain as much as the Sonic fanbase - Nitpicking about EVERY. LITTLE. THING. Be happy we're getting SOMETHING, jeez.
"Let your SON know..."
ReplyDeleteDidn't even give it a second thought about if it was a girl. LOL
FIM's OFFICIALLY no longer for girls. lol
