This... this is amazing. I want this to be real and official right this second.
This comes to us from Shane O. Clearly a lot of work went into this. If only he had sent higher-quality photos so I could ogle his work properly.
Three more after the break!

wow, that looks incredible :D
ReplyDeleteAmazing work
I wish it was real : (
ReplyDeleteWANT. Want so bad IT HURTS.
ReplyDeleteDO WANT
ReplyDeleteI am jealous of his access to a BluRay burner :(
ReplyDeleteWow...Just wow.That's amazing.
ReplyDeleteI want this right now.
ReplyDeleteAnd here I am with 720 episodes burnt onto DVD's marked with sharpies. :(
ReplyDeleteI saw only the picture at first and squeed.
ReplyDeletenow i are sad.
MAKE IT SO, HASBRO
ReplyDeletePlease, make it so.
I find a large amount of win to be emanating from this.
ReplyDeleteAh, to dream of such proper epicosity.
ReplyDeleteI'd totally buy that.
ReplyDeleteAwesome as this is I think we all know that the real thing won't look half as awesome but twice as embarrassingly girly.
ReplyDeleteI'm working on a 6 disc version that includes the season on 4 discs with the two Blu-rays, so the other ponies can be on a disc. I'll send higher quality pictures of that when I'm done!
ReplyDeleteI could so dig this.
ReplyDeleteHere is an example of how not to do a cover art.

Sorry, it's 2 Blu-rays and 4 DVD's, I mean.
ReplyDeleteDo want D;
ReplyDeleteI honestly wish it was in higher quality. It would be fun to use for a homemade DVD. Actually, this would almost be a fun contest idea... see who can design the most interesting season 1 DVD case.
ReplyDeleteAt least until we find out if they'll ever release it for real.
Woaahhhhh!
ReplyDeleteI wish it were real!
and I had my bluray back.
anyways, really good job! Though I think it would look WAY cooler with a REAL episode picture in the cover. ;)
I thought about doing this a while ago ^^
ReplyDelete@ Shane O. Would you be willing to make and sell the cases? I think it would be illegal to sell the actual disks but we could make our own.
ReplyDeleteI love how Hasbro keeps actually paying people to make their merchandise.
ReplyDeleteAll they really have to do is get on ED and start asking, "Hey, would any of you guys be willing to make a-", only to have us interrupt with, "ALREADY DONE. GIVE US MORE PONIES."
Words can not describe the awesomeness :D
ReplyDeleteI don't think it would look cooler PinkiePieFan, but it also wouldn't mislead me into thinking it was an epic, feature length pony film, which by the way, NEEDS TO HAPPEN.
ReplyDeleteThat's so cool! I can imagine high sales for this product if it was real. Very high sales.
ReplyDeleteMake the print out available and then we could use a discarded dvd or bluray cases we already have for when they do come out on dvd...unless Hasbro does it right and makes an alternate case for us Bronies (girly one for the little girls and an epic one for us...the collecter nerd in me would want both)
ReplyDeleteAgreed. If the first season actually does get released, I will buy it and then print out this cover to replace it.
ReplyDeleteDo you have a higher-quality image of the cover, because that would be amazing. Sorry that we're asking so much of you, but you single-handedly did something totally awesome.
My heart skipped a beat when I saw this. I didn't know how badly I wanted Blu-Ray ponies until now.
ReplyDelete@Aquaman52
Your comment just made my day!
My heart is almost dead now, thanks. Anyways great work!
ReplyDeleteWould you be able to make this available for download? I would love to have this on my media shelf!
ReplyDeleteGod damn it Shane. Why are you SO AWESOME!?
ReplyDeleteI saw this on ED,
ReplyDeleteSomething I want to own so bad.
But it doesn't really exist,
And now I feel only sad.
That was actually unintentional at first, but when I noticed it I said screw it and went all out.
I want this... masterpiece.
ReplyDeleteAny chance you can tell us what it says on the back? =3
ReplyDelete@Anonymous "Get your muzzle out of those books and make some friends!" That's what Princess Celestia tells Twilight Sparkle. She may be the smartest unicorn in Equestria, but Twilight Sparkle gets an "incomplete" in friendship. There's more to life than learning magic, after all -- so she goes to Ponyville on a mission to make friends. There she meets five special ponies who taker her on exciting adventures and teach her the most powerful magic of all ... the magic of friendship!
ReplyDeleteThese lazy bustard from Hasbro don't have to do anything. They only have to go to the community and ask, after 5 min they have cover, posters, etc. .
ReplyDeleteGreat job with the cover and disks, it even has space for our big age symbols.
Though the actual blu-ray might not have box-art that looks as good as this... we at least HAVE something to replace it with in it's place now.
ReplyDeleteWe just need a printable version for when the Blu-Ray does arrive.
This is the moment when I realised that, even though there might be series I objectively rank higher, Simpsons and The Wire etc, this is the only show where I would watch every. single. commentary. and. extra. on. the. dvd.
ReplyDeleteIf people that had never heard of the show before saw that on the shelf, they would expect an epic show where ponies went on epic quests. then get a show where they learn the magic of friendship instead.
ReplyDelete"lol u mad consumer?"
The clash between the style of the animation and the style of the background picture gives it a sort of Chinese bootleg look to it. But it is very neat nonetheless.
ReplyDeleteIf only.
ReplyDeletePlease, Hasbro. Please.
DAMN! I still don't have a Blu-ray-player.
ReplyDeleteLots of want anyway!
Shut up and take my money!!!
ReplyDeleteI love that one image used, I need to get it back as my desktop's background image again. The design is superb btw... Looks absolutely beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI wish they'd hurry up and announce DVD / blu ray boxsets soon cause I really want one!

ReplyDeleteI so want that. Hasbro seriously need to release a Official Blue Ray of Season One, they would make millions.
ReplyDeleteNot a bad cover, I always had the feeling that the box set for the series would be shaped like the book from the first episode.
ReplyDeleteHow did you get the images on the disks? I've always wondered how they were put on. Do you need some kind of machine or a special type of sticker or something
@Firleycat Memorex maked CD Labels, I just use a program to print them and used a label puncher to put them on the physical discs.
ReplyDeleteI hope this is giving the few people who actually work on the series and go to this blog ideas. Because that's one epic cover :D
ReplyDeleteThe amount of my WANT cannot be represented in any known methods...This NEEDS to HAPPEN!
ReplyDeleteNeeds more pink. ;)
ReplyDeleteI hope everyone at Hasbro follow this blog.
ReplyDeleteGIEF !!!
ReplyDeleteActually I'm not keen on it. It looks like it's trying to be too artsy and doesn't really capture the show very well. The rear side is spot on but the front lacks focus.
ReplyDeleteSo, um...where can one get the assets so they could make print it up themselves?
ReplyDelete@Aquaman52
ReplyDeleteThis is truth. We totally would. There's 3D renders of everypony already that look like the toys should.
If/when Hasbro does the boxset, they need to hold a contest to get fanart into the packaging.
ReplyDeleteIt worked with the SatAM boxset; why not this?
I own 19 fantabulous gigabytes of pony in HD
ReplyDeleteperhaps I need to put them on blu-ray.
I want a MLP:FIM DVD NOW and I want it loaded with behind-the-scenes extras!!!! A history of the toy line and an interview with Lauren Faust are MUSTS!!!!
ReplyDeletethat is johnjoseco draw !!!!
ReplyDeleteThat is so AWESOME
