No, really, I didn't need that last shred of masculinity I had left. Go ahead and use that one thing I had to watch take many members of my family.
ReplyDeleteAnyone have a tissue?
My eyes got a little bit misty, and that's an accomplishment, heartless bastard that I am.
ReplyDeleteDear Blogger. Please let my comment go through this time? Thanks.
ReplyDeleteMy wife wrote this for me, believe it or not. Needless to say, I cried like a tiny baby man.

A sad yet sweet story.
ReplyDeleteGrowing old is something that I've had a personal experience with. My father's father passed away last February. He'd been living with my parents for the previous year, and I was at home last summer working for my dad. I got to spend a lot of time with him, something that I hadn't been able to do much of growing up.
He would tell me stories of my dad, of himself growing up, of my grandmother, who had proceeded him in death ten years prior. He always teared up when talking about her. It wasn't easy for him, he missed her so.
I don't know why I'm talking about this, as it really doesn't have anything to do with this story itself, I just felt like sharing, because this story touched that part of me, and I wanted to remember.
We can never take anything for granted. I liked this.
A sweet, sad and innocent story.
ReplyDeleteConfound these brilliant story writers.
ReplyDeleteThey drive me to feel emotion.
I hate it when that happens. -_-

ReplyDeleteBased on the comments, I can guess this is a lot like /b/'s only weakness...
ReplyDeleteJust one question: what's wrong with Big Mac? I was wondering if it was Alzheimer's, but I get the feeling it's probably something else.
ReplyDeleteOr something made up?
Oh... oh man. This... Argh, why are so many of the -good- fics so emotional...?
ReplyDeleteThis was excellent.
@Major Rains:
ReplyDeleteSmall, illiterate kittens?
Why'd you have to go and write something as endearing as this. This is great. I has a happy kind of sad.
ReplyDeleteYep. Sad.
ReplyDeleteSeems mostly like Alzheimer's with the drifting in and out.
@Display Name
ReplyDeleteI meant "My Mommy Forever" You know, that little kid's book that always results in tears whenever it's posted on /b/?
Its' like that, the old ones. You walk in the room and they are happy to see you...whoever you are. They act like nothing is wrong, like they know you, and they try to be polite but with their old age comes more than just forgetfulness, and they ask, "I-I'm sorry, but do I know you?" and trying to hide the hurt in your voice, you squeeze out that you are a friend of their sons. You don't dare tell them that your actually their grandson, and just smile as they ramble on. You ask the same questions over and over and get the same replies. They don't know that they can't remember and it pains you to know that their memory has been damaged by some stupid disease of the brain and that they remember nothing of the goo times. Then, recognition permeates their face and their wrinkles form a wonderous smile, and you blister up with hope. You try to shove every thing in, ask about every thing that you couldn't before, and they talk for a moment and you hope it will last forever, you hope to drag it out. But you know you can't control the memory, you know it only pops up for a few seconds and you have to use every minute like it was precious water in a desert. And then, it's gone. Fades away into nothingness, and your sitting there with a 'stranger', asking the same questions as before. Every day until the final rest arrives. Forever.
ReplyDeleteOh man this was an amazing story. Such a sad way for one a strong as Big Mac to go that way but.....oh well. Awesome story.
ReplyDeleteIt is just a sweet story of an average day of someone who will love another until the end of time no matter what.
ReplyDeleteWTFHIW told me to read this, I just so happened to hit 5 stars and cry
ReplyDeleteThis is a great story, but why is it in the archives under Applebloom?
ReplyDelete@Twix
ReplyDeleteIncest the only thing I can think of.... and it concerns me....
