    1. okay, just pausing to say... Dash using the word "such frivolity"? come on, she probably can't even pronounce that word, let alone use it in a sentence, and even if she could she wouldn't.

okay sorry, nitpick mode off. I'll be back when I'm done.

I believe it's Rarity who says that, if it's the line I read that you did.

    3. @adrian brony: i thought it was strange too but re read the line and you'll see Rarity is the one that says it not dash... probably should have been a break or something to show someponyelse talking but other then that it was good and can't wait to see more

    4. I also believe this should have a Shipping tag.

    5. Only in the magical land of Equestria could somepony come out of the closet that easily. *facehoof*

Well, this one didn't technically have any shipping in it, just the little tease, and that doesn't really count, she could be as likely (well not LIKELY) to flip out at RD as she could be to ask her out.

Yyyeah, that's a stretch for me, too. I don't think I've heard of any coming-out story where nobody involved had even a slight problem with it. It's too... clean.

    8. out of the closet was the easy part... now to get out of the friend zone

    9. Story really didn't seem to flow right, like it's rushed. At least that's how I see it.

    10. Meanwhile, in the real world, friends and family want nothing to do with you once you've told your 'secret.' In fact, when they see you coming, they grab their kids away from you, in fear they'll catch 'the gay.' Sad but true story. And it was my own family.

Poor lesson. Sorry. It wasn't very realistic.

    11. Done reading. Like everyone else said, it seemed a bit too... easy.

      SPOILERS
Everyone's reaction to RBD's statement was expected, but I believe she barely had a problem telling them.

    12. I think it'd actually have been a good twist for somepony to flat-out reject Rainbow Dash coming out. I mean, it'd hit her hard, and I'm not doubting that kind of rejection hurts a lot, but that would make for a much more interesting story.

    13. I think the only term to describe this is "dull." And ridiculously generic. And not remotely interesting because there was one conflict and it kind of ended instantly. So there wasn't a conflict really.

      Herp.

    14. @Anonymous Sorry to hear your story, man. I know it may be none of my business, but if your family views you in that light just because you like men/women I say they can shove it. And this fic isn't as unrealistic as you might think. True friends and family will embrace you, even if they might think you're odd or crazy. I've known plenty of guys who've come out of the closet (I live near San Francisco don't you know), some who were accepted and some who were shunned, but they all have one thing in common: they've all found friends both straight and gay that accept and love them.

But enough of that sappy stuff :). Review time.

One gripe that I had was one that I'm seeing a lot of in the comments and that's the bland simplicity of it. Even though the struggle for Dash's confession may be tough for her, we don't see much of her drama or inner turmoil. When you write like that it makes it hard for the reader to get emotionally involved in the story. Obviously not good. The characterization is good though (even though a lot of the mane six never made much of an appearance) and the writing style is solid. Just work on pacing and emotional content and you're golden.

This is basically my review in a nutshell. I was going to write one up, but this covers what I was trying to say.

    16. I have no problems with the reactions of the other five, not everyone is a backward douche after all. The ease with which Dash tells everyone however, is rather unrealistic. I can't say I didn't like the story though, the concept behind the story is very cute, but it needs to be developed a LOT more. 3 stars.

    17. While this may be realistic in a society like theirs it feels completely wrong given the world we live in.

    18. Yeah, this is a conversation Dash has had in several fics already. As has been said, its just generic, there isn't anything to it. I don't mind how easily the others accept it, it fits the show. It would have been nice to see Dash struggle with breaking the news a bit more though. And I believe I am only repeating what others have said, so yeah...

    19. There's no way any of the main characters would have a problem with their friend coming out of the closet, so I don't have any problems with the realism of this story. I've read fanfics where Pinkie throws a town-wide 'coming out of the closet' party when her friends get together, nopony complained. I think that fits within the FiM universe just fine. Gay-bashing ponies are fun to read about, but never quite fit in any setting.

I wouldn't mind seeing this story continued with one of the mane cast behaving awkwardly around out-of-the-closet Dash, though. Maybe one or two of them are secretly a little grossed out?

Like, you could open the next installment with Fluttershy asking Rainbow to "please try not to act gay in front of me" or "I respect you but don't shove your gayness in my face." In her usual shy way of course. IRL a lot of people are like that; tolerant of other sexual orientations but not very happy about seeing them.

Sorry to hear that dude, but when I told my family that I'm bi, it didn't bother them at all.

The story is realistic, I guess the reaction just depends on what kind of friends and family you have.

    21. BULLSHIT!
I already wrote a shipping story called 'Opposites Attract'
(It was Rarity x Rainbow Dash, by the way)
This bastard thinks he can steal my title?

You know what? To quote Pinkie Pie, "You gotta' share, you gotta care" (Over a barrel)
So I'll let him have this one, but in the future, I will not allow it.

Oh god, please add carriage returns. The enter key is your friend.

Wall of text crits me for 9999, I stop reading.

    23. Ha, I'm actually writing a fic about coming out. Don't hit me for plagiarism - I didn't even know this existed until today. XD

      ReplyDelete
    24. @Nvr Rmbr Mere coincidence, pure and simple.

It's a common enough name used for stories - just do a search on DA or fanfiction.net and you'll see there's hundreds of other people that have used it. Happens all the time.
