You're just looking for excuses to use the new images aren't you ;P?
ReplyDeleteNot a bad story, and it's a bit unnerving that there's some land ruled by someone with a personality like Pinky Pie.
ReplyDeleteOTOH, you'd think the trip back would be as eventful as the trip there.
It was an interesting story. Apparently Equestria is a scary place. It seems like it's almost too brief for the sort of story you're telling; this could easily have filled a whole novel. Aside from feeling a little rushed, though, it was pretty good.
ReplyDeleteI agree with what Bobcat said. Good read - quite adventerous. I'm not normally into adventure fics but this one I didn't mind. I see the potential for other Derpy adventures - perhaps to Stalliongrad, etc.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations. You made me want to write a Derpy story!
ReplyDeleteWow, that was oddly epic for a Ditzy Doo story, and I must say I do enjoy when she is written as 'intelligent with a bad eye'. i have a friend in real life with an actual eye affliction that is extremely similar. He's, well, not brilliant but well above average.
ReplyDeleteGreat story with a good amount of action and adventure and I loved your take on Derpy. You could easily make others and they'd probably be just as good if not better than this one.
ReplyDeletePretty epic-feeling adventure. The only downside I found was that it felt rushed, like you were squeezing a much larger novel into a small post. But other than that I've got no complaints.
ReplyDeleteI do agree the thought of a foreign royal with Pinkie's personality is a scary thought, but I'm also intrigued by what will happen when she shows up for the next Summer Sun Celebration.
LOVE this story and now I'm always saying "the mail always gets through"
ReplyDeleteI loved it, but have to ask...what's the deal with the snake? I'd he from a derpy fan-fic that I haven't read?
ReplyDeleteBut, still, very epic
This story was pretty good, but I find it a little lacking. It could have been almost anypony as the main character; Derpy didn't seem to have anything specific about her.
ReplyDelete@ToonNinja
ReplyDeleteYeah, I was thinking the same thing throughout the story. My rationale is that it was Ditzy's job (mailmare) that led to the initial conflict, so it still required her character, you know?
Anyway, I definitely gave this story 5/5. Maybe I was biased because Egyptian mythos is my favorite of all, but whatevs. Thanks, Wafflepan, for this work of art!
One last thing: for all the newbies reading, Equestria's a country, NOT a planet, ok?
This was great. It honestly seemed kind of random at first when Derpy got into a bar fight, but I got over that pretty quickly because of the sheer awesomeness that is Derpy winning a bar fight.
ReplyDeletenice and epic, not at all what i had expected. i liked the tale. however it seems that the author forgot to tell us what the main character was thinking/feeling for almost all the events. because of this i felt there wasnt any real character develpment for ditzy, and as ToonNinja said, it could have been basically any mailpony.
ReplyDeletestill, as i said, enjoyed the read and your writing flowed well despite its speed.
Interesting take on ol' Ditzy, as others had said it felt a lil' rushed, just a little by me but I loved it anyway, going to watch for more for you!
ReplyDeleteI do like that fanfic writers call her 'Ditzy Doo' and make 'Derpy' a mocking name or nickname. It kind of fits.
ReplyDeleteI also like that she had normal intelligence. Strabism does not affect the brain, it merely affects the eyes.
It was an interesting read to say the least, I feel like drawing Ditzy with a piece of cloth tied to her head to keep cool in the desert.
This is not worth the 4 stars given. This is surely the 5 stars I read. I did like the theme, Professor Reginald Glimmer definitely stole the show though and it was awesome.
ReplyDeleteI can't believe there would be that many ponies that would attack a mailmare. Reminds me of old westerns. Great story either way.
Hello, and welcome to Pointless Antagonists 101
ReplyDeleteDamn!
ReplyDeleteThat's really all I can think of. Great story! Though I'll agree with one of the commenters that the snake came out of nowhere. I know the idea is everypony has a pet, but having no explanation behind it kinda just leaves a blank stare.
I'm assuming the snake is the "Snake Surprise" reference the author mentioned. Really unnecessary, if you ask me. Altogether, I was sucked into the story. I love reading MLP fanfics, even if I haven't seen all of the series yet. Now I think Ditzy has earned a new nickname, Calamity Derp.
ReplyDeleteGreat Story! It brought back memories to when I was reading RedWall and the rest of Brian Jaques Books. 5 Stars all the way!!
ReplyDeleteNow that's one dedicated postie.
ReplyDeleteThis version of her is one I could get used to; that's because the droolingly dimwitted social maladroit of the less charitable examples of fanart wears sort of thin sort of fast.
ReplyDeleteThe concept had potential and the characters seemed pretty good, but it was too short and lacks the details that would be needed to bring out that potential.
