Finally a Vinyl Fic!
ReplyDeleteVery good story! There are a few hiccups where the story seems to stumble for half a second, but it quickly picks back up and continues on beautifully. With some careful editing, this could easily be 5 star! As is, I give it a 4 and a half out of five stars.
ReplyDeletethere needs to be more scratch fics! pretty well done, but like the anon above said there is a hiccup or two in the story. also the bar scene in ch.1 made it sound like they had just met up for the first time but i'm being nitpicky. i give it 4 1/2 stars. well done!
ReplyDeleteJust realized, with all the fan fic haters getting their silly button, we can have shipping stories again without worrying about ranters!
ReplyDeleteAnyone know where i can get Scratch's pair of glasses xD? they make everyone look awesome
ReplyDeleteDoesn't really work for me. I completely fail to see the sad part. I suppose I understand why you tagged it as such, but there isn't a lot of sad as far as I'm concerned. Its just a tad weird.
ReplyDeleteStill, I read the whole thing and it wasn't badly written as such. Personal preference I guess, this particular angle just doesn't really work for me.
@Anonymous
ReplyDeleteImplying that some of the ranters are't trolls who will seek out conflict even when it's made to be easily avoidable for them...
...but oh I do hope so much that you're right regardless!
ANYHOOO, I really enjoyed this fic. It was VERY well written as far as the descriptions and action went, but the shipping did seem a tad rushed. Even moving the 'hot coffee' moment to a second date would have helped greatly I think...but keep at it Small Talk! You've definitely got good writefriend potential imo!
Agree with Baree; sad doesn't necessarily warrant a tag if something sad happened in the past that's dominant in the fic. Actually, VERY few sad stories warrant the sad tag. I'd say the only ones I see that use it well are Bubbles and Bittersweet. Former for it's presentation and Latter because of the ending and it's exposition and how everypony dealed with Pinkie's passing.
ReplyDeleteThis is just two ponies remembering their requited love all at once and then taking a day to sort it out. Not really sad so much as just emotional.
That said, chapter 1 felt ridiculously forced. Vinyl was stressed/sad, yes, but she caved to RD with, like, no pressure or anything. She just like "i'm kinda sad" "why" "I'm crying OH GOD HERE IS MY LIFE STORY YOU DIDN'T ASK FOR" I mean... gosh, even after the flashbacks in the next part, it still is rather sudden.
In part 2, I just got really confused. The flashbacks were fine but cutting off between them felt so forced and unnecessary that reading it was just difficult.
I think it turned out well, but just... even more emotions and less breaks during the flashbacks would have helped tons.
I'm not sure that this really worked for me - mostly because parts 1 and 2 didn't mesh, in my opinion. If Dash and Vinyl spent quality time together in the past, it doesn't make sense for them to meet in a bar later and be all "Oh, I'm your biggest fan!" That's more a greeting for two ponies who know of each other, but have never met. With the history you've given, Dash and Vinyl's meeting would have been more along the lines of an awkward "Hey, long time, no see," - and having this in the back of my mind completely broke the flow of part 2's flashbacks.
ReplyDeleteStill, it was pretty well done, overall. With the right editing, this could easily be a 5-star.
Well, this is certainly an enjoyable story. :)
ReplyDeleteIt has been far too long, since someone made a DJ P0N-3 story... And those with Rainbow Dash are always the best. :D
I found RD character pretty good. A strong and proud pegasus, but with the inevitable 'soft spot' that everypony(one) has. That's a good RD.
Nicely done too with the 'flashbacks'... It helps at creating some form of 'precedant' and to support a reason for their relation to exist.
@Nova25
ReplyDeleteAlmost forgot... +1 big bonus point for Vinyl Scratch's red ruby eyes. The best kind of eye color for her.
Give a nice and lovely contrast, you know.
First off, it felt a bit like Turntable Turnabout.
ReplyDeleteThings got really hard to follow with the flashbacks, I had no idea what was going on.
Also, it could have used some stronger emotions that didn't come across so forced.
Three stars. Needs some work but I like the fact that people haven't forgotten the DJ.
~Scratch
Story doesn't seem to flow quite right. It's hard to tell whether it's the past or the present, and there's a few grammar hiccups here and there. Not QUITE feeling the sad part, either. Still pretty good.
ReplyDeleteFlash backs felt sort of forced, but who am I to judge.
ReplyDeleteGreat fic!
D'awwwwww
ReplyDeletewhy do they always stop to early what about their friends what do they think about this? DAMNIT IMMA WRITE MY OWN!

ReplyDeleteGood over all, but slightly confusing. I was having trouble keeping track of when what was happening and to who... But like I said, good over all. I'd recommend it.
