We did come up with something, but it will require the honor system.

This Google Doc currently has a rough outline of what it will look like. It's a big doc, so give it time to load.
Each person will have a Separate template doc like above, and as you complete things, you can add picture/proof of if in each category.
I will create a post for the summer, and add it to the Navigation bar at the top. Everyone will be listed inside. As people attain certain point levels, they can email me and I'll bump them up. We are still working out the specifics, so expect some changes.

Yes, this is exploitable. But if everyone sees the Great and Powerful Trixie up there in the 800 bracket, then it's a simple click to confirm if its ridiculous or not. I won't be checking every single one, so it's up to the community as a whole to call out the cheaters.
In all honesty though, this is only a way to improve yourself. Most of the achievements are about learning to draw, or write; both of which are huge parts of this fandom. I don't know if there will be prizes yet, this is still in the brainstorm phase. The only thing the point value gives you is a means to climb a ladder and see improvement, the same as any achievement point system in any game.
But anyway, we need more icons! So if you are interested in helping build the template, check out the ponychan post below!

ReplyDeleteTo those saying they can't draw or write, now is the time to learn. I plan on forcing myself to do the Drawing with the Left Side of your Brain book that I completely neglected last summer. Adding ponies on the side and achievement point reenforcement and I'm sure to actually keep with it.
ReplyDeleteTake this as an opportunity to improve a skill. And drawing is a -learnable- skill. I never thought I could draw, but I improved tremendously with the small portion of the book I did. Its just a matter of actually sticking with it. We'll be right behind you along the way.

ReplyDeleteYea. But there are always those few Parasprites I just think it would be better to say have a contest not a "achievement system" I just think that this might cause division saying "I'm a 20% cooler brony and youre just a regular brony" I know I know. Maybe I'm just being pessimistic.

ReplyDeleteto be honest i kinda feel bad enough i have no way of contributing anything to this comunity without people rubbing all the stuff they do in my face.
What's the real concern? There are no prizes involved, and other than bragging rights (if you're that much of a Trixie), getting more points won't do that much. Really, the quality of your content is what's going to get you noticed and respected, not how many ponypoints you have. Comparing achievement points would feel more like comparing the length of your unicorn horn.
ReplyDeleteIt may be a problem among those who are super-competitive, but I'm looking at this the way I look at any other achievement system -- a list of ideas and suggestions of ways to occupy yourself when the original content (i.e. season 1) has run a little dry. We're going to keep pony fever alive during the gap as well as we can.
It's all in good fun.

I've been meaning to learn to draw for like ever, and I've always felt bad that I can't give anything back to the community. This could be a good opportunity to actually do something.

ReplyDeleteI was planning on doing some animation, but 2-3 minutes? Unless it's made with a lot of loops, 2-3 minutes is pretty long. Took me about a month just to make my uni animation (not coloured or inked yet either). It takes a long time to make animation.

I've already got 160 by my count, but if some of them don't count (or you have to start fresh) I'll gladly re-do them. This marks the first time I've ever had a sure-fire-drive to want achievements. Its true after all, everything is better with ponies.
Heck, I might end up getting a Pony tattoo thanks to this list, and I'm a man who hates the idea of tattoos.
One thing sort of confuses me. The whole 'Ten seconds flat' and all that. I understand, 10 seconds = ten drawings, but isn't it a lot faster to get 1 second flat than 10 seconds flat?

ReplyDeleteIf I draw one Pinkie, do I then have to draw another *four* Pinkies for the five-Pinkies chieve, or another *five* Pinkies, for a total of six? Would '24/7 party' take ten seperate drawings, or sixteen? (not counting the fully colored, of course).
Sorry to be so anal, but this looks interesting to me and I'd hate to misreport my progress :D

I agree with the quality comment. It's far too easy to type 1000 words, and call it a story. It should be rated on how good it is (this is coming from a terrible fic author too.)
ReplyDeleteI was thinking, you know what would be cool, like *super* achievements. I dont mean, 500 points, but maybe 250, for some REALLY good successes. For example; A youtube video with over 25,000 views? A fic rated 5 stars by at least 250 people? Art that is....well, good like that rarity pic (not saying other art is bad). Not sure about real life ones, but where are the real payouts? The ones that would require a lot of hard work and time and dedication?

When you've done a total of 1, you'll get your achievement for doing 1.
When you've done a total of 5, you'll get your achievement for doing 5.
When you've done a total of 10, you'll get your achievement for doing 10.
So all in all, you'd need a total of 10 for the last one. Not 16. Of course, 16 ponies is always better for practicing than only 10 ponies.

When do we start?
We start when Equestria Daily starts hosting this idea. But before that happens a lot of things need to be taken care of first. Balancing of points, achievement icons and filler images are needed to make looking at this list a bit easier on the eyes.
When do you unlock an achievement?
I’m going to try and explain this one with an example. Let’s say you drew Pinkie Pie 9 times, looking up in the list you see that you meet the requirements for unlocking the "More streamers!” achievement. “Streamers!” (10 points) and “More Streamers!” (20 points) will give you 30 points total.
Now you start thinking what if my tenth Pinkie is also colored? Looking back up the list you see this would unlock “Never enough streamer!” but would also unlock “Life of the party” giving you another 60 brony points total. Now you think your done right? You’re wrong look up the list again, unlocking all the art achievements for Pinkie Pie also awards the “Party 24/7” achievement, netting you another 50 points.
By drawing your tenth Pinkie Pie in color you unlocked 3 achievements worth 110 points.
Does older content count towards my Brony Rank?
“Old” content does count towards your Brony Rank, why wouldn't it. But if I’m going to be honest here, wouldn’t it be better to make “fresh” content? The stuff you submit will be posted on Equestria Daily so keep in mind that they probably prefer new content.

Hey! New poster here. I think this could work out pretty well, if you removed the score aspect. That means that people who generate loads of great content don't end up with a "rank" per se, but instead get a set of attractive badge images to show off.

But the one artist helping me is a bit overloaded with things to make, so yeah an artist or two would really help.

ReplyDeleteThis is as an awesome idea. I suggest when ever a photo is required, we also ask the submitter to hand write and date a note to be in the photo so we can somehow tell it is legit.

And maybe limit amount or frequency of some achievements? So maybe someone can't just bake a whole lot of cupcakes and keep submitting that?
I'm all for this idea, sounds like a great way to get people to expand their horizons and try something new. I've been writing and drawing ponies for a while (Although i haven't had the guts to post them) So maybe this will help me share my work.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I was surprised to see there's an achievement for creating a tabletop game, as that's what my current project is (D&D in MLP? YES!) Guess I'll have to share that when I'm finished too for the extra brony points!
It would be awesome to have, like, different rank ratings for different artists (video, music, drawing, writing), like, somepony might be great at drawing but crap at writing/vid editing/making music, so it should state that he has high rank in whatever he/she specializes in, drawing in this situation, but low on everything else. this way, in order to be 1337 (inb4 shitstorm about barriers etc, let me remind you of such personas as madmax and cupcake).
