The artist who painted the rarity up above created one of those speed paint videos for it. It's definitely an awesome color job, so maybe that huge niche of people that color the drawfriend stuff from /co/ can learn something from it!

Ooh.
ReplyDeleteI really liked this Rarity pic, wish the guy with do additional ponies (i.e. The Great and Powerful Tixie) as well.
ReplyDeleteIf Rembrandt was a brony, this is what he would've painted.
ReplyDelete@Chessie2003
ReplyDeleteDefinitely.
Wow, that guy has skills, it really is an amazing picture, but it took him 5 hours?! That's just crazy. Good on you mister artist.
ReplyDeleteThat man needs a beer!
ReplyDeleteStat.
Incredible talent in this fan community.
ReplyDeleteI've never had noticed how much Rarity looks like a sausage
ReplyDeleteNitro is amazing, there can be no doubt. But I can't help but wonder how he'll react to being featured on here!

I'm really tempted to print this painting out and hang it on my wall. The comparison being made to a pony Rembrandt is an extremely appropriate one.
ReplyDeleteAppreciated

Well...
ReplyDeleteI may not be the most talented artist, but I've got a good eye. I guess you get that if your dad is a professional. (I'm not kidding. He drew the last Bundespräsident of Austria (who is now dead) (I helped a bit on the backround): http://www.wienweb.at/pictures/pict45/big/wg45379.jpg)
(Here is some of his more typical artwork, drawing machines and technical stuff: http://www.graz.at/cms/bilder/27012/80/150/115/0e0aaddd/Tryptichon.jpg?W=900)
Anyway, I feel like a horrible bragger! Kinda wanna justify myself critizising...
What I want to say is, that the drawing is good, looks very 3D and has great lighting. However, the body seems a wee bit too long and the hind legs seem... well kinda awkward, maybe too skinny...
But who am I to talk? This is what I consider my best (pony related) work: http://i1206.photobucket.com/albums/bb442/Putuk22/CQC-Crusaders-1.png
I guess I just wanted to get this out, kinda always feel bad when I see so many other talented artists. Makes me think I've got no talent. :(
Bah, this turned out to be a personal rant! GAWD!
Thanks for the feature, much appreciated!
ReplyDelete@Putuk She's not as on model as I would have liked, but this was the first time I've drawn one of the ponies, so I was still figuring out the proportions. The simplicity of the show's style makes it even more important when getting the shapes and sizes right. Probably should have done a few more sketches before hand :)
@Supernitro
ReplyDeleteAww, gee thanks for not yelling at me.
Sereously, I kinda had a crappy day and felt grumpy. I shouldn't have been so jealous.
Back to the drawing board... and photoshop tutorials.
Watching the video, there were a lot of places where I thought, "Man, I would have just called that bit done right there, but he just keeps on going." But that's why I'm not an active artist. I figured this would've taken a few days, but to hear that this was done in a mere 5 hours made my mind explode.
ReplyDeleteI had no idea who it was that did this, then seeing the name "Nitro" mentioned made me go "Wait, *that* Nitro?" At first I saw "Supernitro" and thought maybe it was someone else, and just a coincidence. Then I looked at his art blog and didn't see anything familiar, the only suspicious one being of Coco the bandicoot; then I looked at his Deviant Art and saw some of his earlier ones, some of the ones that were done to the level of excellence I last saw him using, and saw his old signature watermark that I was used to seeing on his work, and was like "Wow, he has come a LONG long way in 5-6 years" as my mind exploded *again*. Of course, most of his stuff from that long ago has been baleeted off the face of the intarwebz.
So I guess the newer Supernitro moniker is nothing short of fitting, when comparing the work I knew regular old Nitro for (from a certain other art site that people not already familiar with it need not know about). He truly is a super-version of his former self.
