A new My Little Pony abridged project is under way. The creator, T-Brony Stackz is looking for people to audition for the various characters of the show.
So if you guys/gals are freaking out about huge gap of no pony coming up, this is your chance to do something about it!
You can find all of the rules/audition requirements after the page break on Youtube! My Little Pony Abridged Auditions
Part of me wants to send in recordings, but the other part wants to do my own parody of the show. I want to do something similar to the Abridged series out there, but adapted to the really nonlinear plot of My Little Pony.
Not to mention I think I'd have fun talking to myself.
I can understand people's reluctance to think an abridged series not made by Little Kuriboh or Team Four Star would be good, but damn it, it can be done.
I have quite a bit of experience at this, I ran a fandub (that was actually good) of a show before so I know what's involved. I also love writing and don't intend on this becoming just one of those "FUCK ASS PISS LOL WE'RE CURSING SO IT'S FUNNY NOW" kind of things. I intend on writing a well thought out and witty narrative for each episode.
Anyway, for those who are willing to submit some stuff: thanks a bundle!
Yes; abridged series can be good. However, if you start off your auditions by saying "just do whatever the hell you want", that's pretty unprofessional. You should have at least some idea of where you want to take the show, and therefore, an idea of what you want to hear from voice actors.
I'm willing to try out for Twilight, Rainbow Dash, and Applejack, but I have one question: Is there anything specific (that you already have written up) that you want us to read from and audition with? It'd probably help a lot, I'd think.
Anyway, I'll make something up sometime soon and send it in. It should be fun!
What sort of shows will you hope to be producing? Entirely original stuff penned by the abridged staff? Will you branch out into producing things like fanfics, or somesuch?
I understand what you mean, and I may write up some audition lines in the future, but this time I wanted to try having the people auditioning improvise. Mostly because this series is meant to be funny, and people who are naturally funny would definitely help. They'd understand comedic timing, putting emphasis on the proper part of a joke and not to overact when it's not necessary.
Even though I intend it to be funny, I don't want it to be a joke. Good acting is key.
All I'm saying is someone who can make me laugh on their own is usually > someone who can't.
But seriously, everyone can audition because what you think I'm looking for might not be what I'm actually looking for.
Shamefully I must admit I haven't finished the script yet, but I just got this idea today and I figured I'd try to get the ball rolling as soon as possible. Casting takes awhile usually.
Ooh, that makes sense. I'm auditioning for Fluttershy, and possibly Pinkie Pie! It's going to be funny, since girls are a majority of the show and a minority of the fans :D
@T-Brony Stackz I applaud your willingness to contribute something big to the fandom, but you and everyone else has to understand that abridged series are really delicate. There can only be ONE true abridged series for anything, which means if you're doing this, it's gotta be good enough to represent the fandom supremely. If you want this to work, and if you want us to support you, you need to prove to us that you're fit for the job. Write a pilot script. It only has to be a minute or so, but prove to me that you're the comedy gold that can make this series awesome.
Well, from what I've written so far I think this should be hilarious. And I understand that THERE CAN ONLY BE ONE which is why I'm hoping to get all the help and support I can now so that it's truly worthy of the awesomeness that we call MLP:FiM. The thing with abridged series is if they're good they'll get noticed. If they're not, they'll fade into oblivion. If everything goes as I plan, this will definitely not fade into oblivion.
Rainbow have a male voice actor, switches to female for the poison joke episode.
Flutterguy voice that turns entirely squeaky during the poison joke scene.
And German Rarity who probably speaks prolifically of the movie "The Producers" and will probably be the only multilingual pony, but can it at least be a female actor who can fake a german accent?
Well why not just add Pinkie Pie with voice dissonance where she's talking blandly when she's crazy and talking crazy when she's being normal?
Oh and let's just have Twilight say the most awkward things alive because goodness knows she doesn't do that enough already on her own.
So whose voice acting gummy? I Volunteer to voice act gummy the gator because I won't have to do or say anything and I'll be in the production because all my lines equate to "...".
So just add my name to the contributors list as the voice actor for Gummy. Name Darkon Arters Shadows.
I would LOVE to do a kind of latina-Pinkie! I'm from Peru, and my english is weird, sum that to Pinkie Pie weirdness and you got WIN! Also, I sing kind of horrible, so that could be completely lulz in the series. Because Pinkie is know for good singing.
@T-Brony Stackz Okay, so you do have something already. I'd love to see what you have written, even if only a little bit. Not to sound distrusting, but there are a lot of people who think their stuff is hilarious. And often times it is, but comedy can't sail on only someone's word that it's funny.
Or perhaps this: is there anything comedic that you've written or made before now that you can post to show us that you know what you're doing? Videos, short stories, ect., just something to get a sense of your style.
I suppose the first few episodes will really decide if it's good or not, but you're looking for investment here, and that requires some assurance of skill.
Better yet give me an email adress and I'll send thought bubbles for Gummy if you'll send me a script.
I'm going to go write up an email now making conversational thought bubbles for a gator that doesn't talk at all and I will only appear for what two episodes?
Okay, so you do have something already. I'd love to see what you have written, even if only a little bit. Not to sound distrusting, but there are a lot of people who think their stuff is hilarious. And often times it is, but comedy can't sail on only someone's word that it's funny.

So, how exactly does this "abridged" thing work? I've never seen any episodes of this kind of thing before, so...
-Does it use clips from the show or original animation or from some Sims program or what? What exactly goes on with animation?
-When you say "everpony you can think of" does that mean I could audition for Lyra or Vinyl Scratch or even Zecora (I might not do the best African voice, but I know how to make things rhyme)? Or will there not be much mention of background characters (which would be odd for something made by bronies, for bronies)?
-Do the voices have to actually sound somewhat close to the character being auditioned (I mean, obviously it has to sound like you're auditioning for the pony you say you're auditioning for, but could I use my deep guy-voice to audition for, say, Fluttershy?)
-Sort of ties in with my last question, but is the point to make it sound close to the actual characters, or is it just one of those sort of roleplay-ish things where the voices could be completely off so long as you can tell they're trying (about Abridgeds in general, not just this)?
-Will there be a Luna episode?
I don't have a mic and, as usual, cannot be part of this amazing idea which I want to be in (unless my Rock Band mic is revealed to work on computers), but I figured I'd ask my questions anyway.
@Display Name An "Abridged Series" is voice acting over pre-existing episodes, usually editing them for time, and rewriting the dialogue, usually making the humor a tad more mature. If you want an example of a great abridged series, look up "Dragon Ball Z Abridged" on Youtube. I find it hilarious.
And no, the voice actors don't necessarily have to sound like the original characters, as long as they get their personality right.
And Rock Band mics work using a USB cord. So yes. They can work on a computer. Not too well, but they will work.
@T-Brony Stackz I gotta admit, the Brony Hitler stuff is pretty hilarious.
Actually, if for some reason this doesn't end up happening, I'd love to have you as a co-writer for Camaraderie is Supernatural. We've already got an episode out (originally disguised as Sonic F episode 5.5), with really positive reception from the brony community thusfar.
Of course, if you want to do your own thing, then I certainly won't stop you and wish you nothing but the best. Just know that the offer is there if you're interested.
Let me tell you, good sir, that you are a crazy moron.
Only an idiot would go into a new project on a whim with little to no preparation, no script, and ambitions of doing something as big as an abridged series. Saying that you have "editing" skills means almost nothing if you have no idea where you want to take the show.
It's called being a director. One who... directs things.
Yeah, I just checked out episode 1 one of Outlaw Star Abridged. It was pretty awesome (shinemyglassshinemyglass), so if I can get enough time alone without any interruptions that I would be able to contribute to this, I'll see if the Rock Band mic can make anything worth using.
Just in case I can't, I'll put in my two cents for an idea: Fluttershy Satan voice, and GLADoS Spike.
1. When are auditions due by? 2. Should there be a singing sample as well, or an introduction? 3. Is a conversation between two ponies an acceptable form of audition for the two ponies? 4. It does matter to have a voice like that of the character's a little, right?
1. Deadlines for amateur productions are superfluous because they're always extended if criteria is not met by then. 2. If you like, sure :D 3. Yes indeedy. 4. Not necessarily. It helps, but if you get their personality down right, that's just as good.
I think a lot of us are thinking that, but if I can find time I'll be trying to submit something, and if I intend to compete in something voice-based, then heck, they might as well have Justin Bieber in this competition.
I sent in my ill advised audition of thought bubble contribution so that I can be Gummy the gator in this production.
I wonder if my thought bubbles will make it in over everyone elses thought bubbles.
D. Shadows thought bubble: Probably not... did I leave the easy bake oven on... oh no... my living cupcakes experiment! Don't panic no one can see what you're thinking. So the world might end in a flood of cupcakes wielding machine guns, at least it's not those darn fruit cake barbarians. Seriously who likes fruit cakes they'll take over the world as one door stop at at time if you let them. Oh crap have I been typing everthing I thought? Um.
I'm sure everything will be fun and the voice actors will work hard to get this done.
The only thing I'm worried about is lack of appropriate scenes for him to dub over. With just one season of the show, he could get maybe two or three good episodes out unless he wanted to do a full redub of each episode, and just add different dialogue.
Neither option involves a lot of Big Mac. And this disappoints me, seeing as I appear to have already gotten the role.
Uh, have you seen how Abridged series are done? I've only seen Yugioh abridged, but the creator generally just shortens the episode by cutting out parts, making up a new script, and then lip-sync magic (not necessarily in that order).
So, if this series is going to be anything like the other ones, then, yeah, T-Brony will basically be making a "full redub of each episode, and just add different dialogue." Which totally has been proven to cause great lollery.
I would like to audition if possible, I have always been told I have many wired and different voices. One question though. In the audition do I have to say a joke or a diolouge from the show? Or do you have something specific in mind for us to say?
i'm totally trying out for pinkie. i've recorded a couple of things for her already, and i think they're decent (although a bit quiet, since 1 am is the only time i have to record and not be thought of as a lunatic by my family, but i also have to make sure not to wake them up).
I'm gonna try out. I'm not a good voice actor, and my voice is that of a 14 year old not really deep but kind of deep like fresh off hitting off puberty deep, but I'll try.
I'm going to give it a try, why not? I can think of some funny things to say. I'll even try my hand at singing. Not that I'm any good at singing... but I'll make up for lack of skill with pure gusto! :D
While this sounds intriguing, I will probably not audition myself, as I have a hearing impairment and an impending lack of time with which to contribute.
Though on second thought, since I'm adding closed captions to the original episodes on Youtube, I suppose I could volunteer to caption these in my free time. That's only if you wouldn't mind, though.
If i had my mic and nobody was home, I'd try out for fluttershy... or someone. I sound almost exactly like she did during the poison joke scene (really really deep voice).
What about using some of the dialogue from the actual show to audition? Since you don't have a script up and it's kind of hard to just improvise lines.
Awesome! That's really cool, I want to do that hehe! Wow!!!! Cool!!! I Love that show so so so much! Actually if I didn't I probably wouldn't be on this site. My favourate episode is the best night.

I'm trying out for Pinkie and Spike if I can get a mic.

ReplyDeleteIf Doctor Whooves gets a voice, make sure it's a British Accent (maybe even Scottish if you want to go that far for Ten).
ReplyDeleteAnd Fluttershy I think needs a cute girl's voice... maybe a cute shotaro boy's voice if we are to do crossdressing voices. Just my own opinion.
Also, someone needs to come up with Applejack ideas, she's feeling so lonely!
I'm gonna try out. I'm not a good voice actor, and my voice is that of a 14 year old not really deep but kind of deep like fresh off hitting off puberty deep, but I'll try.

ReplyDeletecant we just make like derpy episodes? im not gonna be interested if this is gonna be with the mane 6
I did some voice over work in high school... I think I can audition... :I
ReplyDeleteIf I had a working mic, I'd probably have a blast with this.
ReplyDeleteI'm going to give it a try, why not? I can think of some funny things to say. I'll even try my hand at singing. Not that I'm any good at singing... but I'll make up for lack of skill with pure gusto! :D
ReplyDeleteWhile this sounds intriguing, I will probably not audition myself, as I have a hearing impairment and an impending lack of time with which to contribute.
ReplyDeleteI do wish you success, though.
After classes today I am SO sending some stuff in.
ReplyDeleteThough on second thought, since I'm adding closed captions to the original episodes on Youtube, I suppose I could volunteer to caption these in my free time. That's only if you wouldn't mind, though.
ReplyDeleteWhat program should I use to record my voice?
ReplyDeletePerhaps when you come up with something for a script, I might try out...
ReplyDeleteIf i had my mic and nobody was home, I'd try out for fluttershy... or someone. I sound almost exactly like she did during the poison joke scene (really really deep voice).

ReplyDeleteAudacity or Garageband both work well
I got a deep voice. I'll see if I can throw something together for Big McIntosh.
ReplyDeleteThey should totally get Happy Squeak to voice somepony. >u>
ReplyDeleteWhat about using some of the dialogue from the actual show to audition? Since you don't have a script up and it's kind of hard to just improvise lines.
ReplyDeleteAwesome! That's really cool, I want to do that hehe! Wow!!!! Cool!!! I Love that show so so so much! Actually if I didn't I probably wouldn't be on this site. My favourate episode is the best night.
ReplyDeleteI Can do voices but, i'm not that funny except in rare instances. I'll try anyway
ReplyDeleteHow and where do you audition?
