I am pretty sure we have hit at least 50% of all known game types at this point with ponies.
This looks like it's going to be pretty neat! I haven't played an adventure game in forever. Revisiting the genre with ponies definitely sounds like a good time.
You can find an early test demo embedded below the break!
I'm reminded of the first monkey island game. I hope there are some funny references to other point and click names. like spike saying "twilight sparkle. THAT'S THE STUPIDEST NAME I EVER HEARD" or something like that
I have two minor critiques: could use better writing, but I imagine the person who made this just kinda stuck in whatever lines for the test, and the art of the characters seemed.. I dunno.. stiff? Something just looked kinda strange about them to me, though the walk cycle looked good.
Those quips aside; I like what I see, and this has some potential. I was hoping to get a game like this, to be honest.
Man.
I really want to play Sam & Max Hit The Road again now.
Let's see... We got platformer. We got RPG/MMORPG in works. We got an adventure game (was the 3D ponies one intended to be an adventure game, MMORPG or just a general engine?)
Oh cool, he took some one elses' sprites and just jumbled them together to make one crap fest. Seriously, why people think this is amazing is beyond me.
Okay, in their own right, every element put together here is okay. But, when combined, you can see that they're completely different resolutions. This is really, really problematic. Basically a dealbreaker as far as aesthetic appeal goes.
Twilight Sparkle was ripped from the Desktop Ponies thread: http://www.ponychan.net/chan/collab/res/3880.html And I think the backgrounds were taken from that other Pony MMO.
I don't think any of the bronies there would mind, but it would have been nice to ask. Also, it's kind of throwing me off that Spike is in a different style than Twilight (who has a double pixel style.)
I loved it. I lol'd so hard at spike, his eyes, and when Twilight clicks on him and says: That's Spike Spike: Really? I would have never guessed! It will be awesome. I can FEEL it.
...and now I'm thinking of some kind of Sid Meier's Pony Centauri kind of game.
"Celestia has mysteriously abdicated, throwing all Equestria into chaos as half a dozen contenders for the throne seek to battle each other into submission!"
With the main cast you could probably get a decent range of factions. I can see Twilight as Zakharov and Fluttershy as Deirdre WAY too easily.
I can't wait to be able to play this. While I was watching the demo video, my desktop Dash started following my mouse, and flew over the to of the screen, when it was outside. It took me a moment to realize it wasn't part of the demo.
Also, I don't know if this is possible, but if it is, the cursor should change to a stick figure pony, instead of a stick figure human to direct movement. It just seems kinda off, you know?

ReplyDeleteI love how snarky Spike is in this game.
ReplyDeleteAdventure Game Studio *shudder* Hated working with that system, but with enough work and tweaking good things can come out of it.

ReplyDeleteI do not know about you, but I remember it much the game "Sam & Max Hit The Road".

Anyone else noticed the Half-Life reference?
ReplyDeleteLet's see...
ReplyDeleteWe got platformer.
We got RPG/MMORPG in works.
We got an adventure game (was the 3D ponies one intended to be an adventure game, MMORPG or just a general engine?)
We're missing...
TBS/RTS
FPS/Shooter
Now we need an RTS game with armies of guard ponies / main cast ponies facing off against dragons/monster armies.
ReplyDeleteStill waiting for a Master of Magic-style TBS....
ReplyDeleteOoh I love point & click adventures
ReplyDeleteLet's just hope nobody makes a Visual Novel for MLP.
ReplyDeleteWe need a first person shooter pony game!
ReplyDelete@Lily Surette
ReplyDeleteActually, someone on DeviantArt IS making a Visual Novel for MLP... with humanized ponies.
Aaaaahhhh. You touched my heart.
ReplyDeletePony. My childhood. And pony.
I hope one day I'll see the playable demo.
What's this? A point and click adventure that hearkens back to the days of Monkey Island and Sam and Max? I think I love you, man!

A little works needs to be done on the sprites. Animation is great. And now my general reaction to this: YEEEES!!!
ReplyDelete@Ufu
ReplyDeleteSomepony I know is actually making a turn-based strategy-RPG. :<
"I am pretty sure we have hit at least 50% of all known game types at this point with ponies."
ReplyDeleteBecause there are some game types we haven't discovered yet!
Still want to see a proper fighter. But not mad about anything anybody else is putting out.
ReplyDeleteTHE BEES! MY EYES!
ReplyDeletePony Island II: Nightmare Moon's Revenge!
ReplyDeleteI loved it.
ReplyDeleteI lol'd so hard at spike, his eyes, and when Twilight clicks on him and says: That's Spike
Spike: Really? I would have never guessed!

You only need better sprites and well, finish it of course.

So my comment a few drawfriend ago about "Rarity Bow" is a possibility?
