MLP Abridged has potential to say the least, but the biggest problem with it is how it relies far too heavily on pre-existing jokes within the main show.
The two spansih dubs were INCREDIBLE! The abridged series... not so much. I waited for 7 minutes for the funny bit. It never came. For a Fandub, it wasn't bad, the voices were OK, but, I dunno if the caster/author of it watched many abridged series', but usually, characterisation and voice matching aren't priority 1. But then, that is my own opinion on it, probably just didn't match my humor type.
The abridged series was kind of disappointing even for a first episode. The pacing way too slow, and half of the time it was like they weren't even TRYING to be funny. An abridged series shouldn't feel more slow and dull than the show it's supposed to be parodying...
Those dubs are great! They picked some good actors for Rarity and Fluttershy plus the sound quality is great. Too bad I don't have any Spanish speaking friends.
I would like to say that everypony not waste their type on commenting the abriged series, the director is on of the "Let's see you do better" types, He cut me from the team without even telling me.
I like the Abridged series. The humor is kinda hit and miss (I'm a prude who dislikes sexual humor, sorry), but that's just me. The music also isn't to my liking (again, just me). I do like the way it fits together overall, however.
Of course, I'm not sure if it being called an "Abridged Series" is proper since it kinda rewrites the story. I've only seen YGO:TAS, but I have noticed that the general plot in each episode is the same (though every tiny hole is exposed and exploited).
I do see how making it truly abridged is difficult given the lack of any real plot from one episode to the next. As such, there isn't much that can be cut out.
Haha, awesome! I'm glad Sethisto put up those Spanish fan dubs :) I've been personally seeking dubs for the show, but aside from a French and Mexican opening video and that Portuguese episode of The Ticket Master I haven't had any luck.
I gotta say though, Sonic F's April Fool's joke with the ponies was a much nicer one, though I don't wish to berate these new guys with their attempts. I'll probably watch them for a while at least, while the pony drought continues :)
The abridged wasn't...too bad...but LittleKuriboh they ain't. Needs to be funnier, but that comes down to the writing. Speaking of LK, the girl who voiced Pinkie needs to ask him what sound recording equipment he uses, that was the worst part.
I'm going to follow the trend here and say that the abridged series.... needs some work. Animation is visual and audio, and since you already have the visual with an abridged series...
Pacing was slow, with numerous blank spots. Even just saying "um" gives the characters a little more feeling behind them... and there was little coherence. AND THERE WAS NO RARITY.
Actually, here is a little bit I through together in response to the GIANT ROCK bit from YGO:TAS with MLP characters
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6q_HIBl1ER4
Not original at all, but was just me messing around (since it totally fits the character exploited...). Not bad for a first video with minimal editing, if I do say so myself (which I do).
@Anonymous I'm part of the team and I don't remember ANYONE being kicked out. Are you sure you were part of the team? Or did you just assume because someone said they liked your audition?
I really wanted to love the abridged version, but something about it wasn't nearly as great as I was hoping it would be. I think the humor was a bit random. Which isn't a bad thing, but it was just too random.
It was a matter of time that we got some Spanish dubs in here. They are well done! Really good
I see Spanish voice actors having much potential in these dubs. Heck I can probably try a dub myself but there aren't many male ponies out there. Fluent in Spanish but my literacy in it lacks, though.
Still, I'm already etching to see some Spanish version already.
I don't recall ever cutting anyone from our team. I'm sorry for the misunderstanding! You can send me an email if you'd like to talk with me about it. Although I don't really appreciate those accusations, comrade. Nevertheless, no hard feelings!
To everypony else, I assure you that everyone on the team is learning and once we reach our stride, things will really take off! Also, the first episode was a tad rushed unfortunately to reach some self-imposed deadlines. In the future, I'm planning on taking my time a lot more.
Another member of the team here. I personally expected as much in terms of reactions to the first episode, it was kind of done on it's own and a little rushed BUT I assure you we are all working together now, gathering the elements of comedy to make the future episodes 20% cooler than the first one. So don't give up on us, the more supportive words we get, the better we'll strive to be!
The voice actors for the abridged should take a lesson from the Spanish fandubs. I don't understand Spanish, but I can still understand the meaning and personality of the lines through their delivery. The Spike v.a. especially needs work on this. That and the abridged series needs some better writing/editing so that the moments are funnier, after all, the key to comedy is timing.
Spanish is a second language of mine, but even I could catch the quality that was put into those two second videos. That was completely golden! Well done to the Spanish bronies who put their efforts into that. I would totally re-watch all the episodes in Spanish with quality dubs like that.
Eh. I'm gonna' side with Kill me, I'm a PONY on this one. I was hoping for something more along the lines YGO:Abridged, where most of the humor is based along the pot of the episode rather than the characters themselves. The constant references to everyone challenging each other to "a children's card game" was one of the jokes that never got old because it was a constant call of attention to the absurity of the show. I didn't see very much of this lampshade hanging in the MLP: Abridged.
That and I feel I'm the only one who is disappointed in the choice of Fluttershy's role, but I guess I'm just a bit shaken and uncomfortable with the complete rewriting of her as a character.
Her cute, adorable voice is one of her primary characteristics. Swapping it out with a permanent deep-voice Fluttershy isn't something I'm going to be looking forward to if I end up watching the rest of the series. I get that capitalizing on a joke that happens in a single episode is to be expected, but when you combine it with something else, something's going to feel... off.
She's been depicted as much more caustic than the usual Fluttershy. Swearing at the birds and calling Twilight a bitch is out of character for her, but I would have found it funny and acceptable to play that off if we didn't have the voice to go with it.
I guess I would have been fine if only one of these aspects was rewritten, but using them both just feels too jarring.
I'll go with the general "meh" reaction to the abridged, BUT I do really like their voice for Twilight. Applejack seems pretty good too from the brief snippit. So I'll probably give it another chance.
{THE LIST OF WHAT YOU NEED IS AT THE BOTTOM} If Critic-Troll rants affect you & you are a member of the team and watched yugioh abridged and many others and you want to make the show better then don't read this.
Warning this contains a critic and caps lock This probably is just the Alpha/Beta episode, and will get better, or another group will take on the challenge but i simply don't like the starting point which has been presented to us.
Ah Who the Fuck am i kidding, you're probably just one of the creators which made ''The Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog'' and then Sonic SATAM had to come in the same year to save us, too bad(TOO BAD INDEED) they didn't change sonic's personality and voice actor, guess he didn't wanna rewrite the character so the fans(oh that's a good one) already used to sonic don't have to get reused to a newer sonic which would of kicked 9000% more ASS
FOR FUCKS GOD HOMOSEXUAL'S SAKE, No offence but Forcing yourself into insomnia to post it at 3:35AM doesn't show you're a good director now on with the real rant. As another brony said if it's going to be a swear fest then forget it(alright if you're gonna use the colorful vocabulary THEN DO IT RIGHT). Women voicing the main 6?! CMON...the voices are semi-half decent, at least put the males to voice them and we can laugh our asses off at ponies with manly voices so it's actually ABRIDGED, haven't you ever watched Yu Gi Oh Abridged??? Well if you haven't then here's what you're suppose to do, JOKES Over the Plot!, THANK U, Thank u, Nightmare moon hasn't been presented at all, there's barely any editing(fine except for the lip syncing so you comment on something else)I can present you a huge frigging list and moments where to edit it so it's actually MEMORABLE, like hell the part where Nightmare Moon pops up in Twilight's hourglass, you could of put epic music and a DUM DUM! shit with N.M. is watching you or a jokey question of how the hell did she even get in the hourglass, what is it a crystal ball in disguise?! N.M. is watching you masturbate? dunno EXPLOIT IT but then again it's probably because MLP FIM has such a big quality it makes us expect more...yeah right I See it...this is all your masterplan of turning our love into hatred so we do the shown on our own and get the quality way frigging higher
My only concern now is if another team is gonna remake it WHICH THEY ARE, are they gonna use half decent voices of females, LaughAtMe Voices or really Macho Voices for ponies like in PonyCraft 2 which we all loved(OVER 10.000 Likes!)
Now i did promise you a list =) -BGM For atmosphere -Internet Refferences -Memorable moments -Songs(YES SONGS)BGM can cover shitty lyrics a lot -Kidnap Lauren Faust(wait what?) -Watch other people's works which are actually G(O)(O)D and inspire yourself from that -Change the voice moods once in a while -Don't Rush it(except if it's funny and makes sense) -CONSULT THE GOD DAMN FANS(professional bronies), Helloooo we're hereee you need help? CALL US!
Wow i just stood 1 whole hour to type all this This is the Nostalgia Critic's Viewer rant, outbursts are at fixed hours, hope to see you soon next time!
@ 3:58 Anon Yeah they didn't cast me either but you should give them a try anyway. Support your fellow bronies.
And as for the Spanish Subs, WOW! I am truly impress, as a Spanish speaking brony I must say this was a job well done. The lines are perfectly delivered and translated, plus the voices just fit the characters so well! Are you sure this ins't a professional dub? If the show thus ever make its way to mexico I want them to dub it. :3 Estoy sumamente orgulloso de su trabajo.
Abridged is just as bad as I thought it was gonna be. And that's pretty damn bad. It just isn't original, it isn't funny, and the voices don't work. Especially Spike. It's just weird.
Abridged does away with the characterizations that go so well with the art style in order to make some jokes. That sacrifice isn't entirely necesary:it's possible to make good jokes without changing characterizations! Not easy, but possible. That would be the route I would prefer. I'll be glad to give future jokes some thought, if no one else will.
From the creator of the MLP:FiM Abridged Series, regarding why he cast so many people spontaneously without a deadline:
"I understand what you and a lot of other people are saying about that, but to be honest I'm casting roles as I go because it's a lot easier for me. Keep in mind this is NOT a professional work - I can only do this in my spare time. I only cast someone if their audition knocks me out of the water and I absolutely love it; I don't settle. But casting certain roles means people will focus on characters I have little to no auditions for, which helps me out a lot."
In other words, he's doing it in a way that's best for him. He's not doing it for the community, and he's not doing it for those that are involved in the production. He's making it so that the entire world of this "show" orbits around him.
That's still bad, but damn, if it isn't miles better than the other one. KoC's at least has good pacing and a few "lol" moments. The one in EqD's post is just... bleh.
sees Nostalgia Critic's post oooo quite the rant there hah.
Aww I didn't get a part. Thought my spike was ok meh.
Anyway yeah the series has potential. Need some more music / sound effects etc, more emotion blah blah internet memes etc etc. It IS the first episode so yeah let's see how episode 2 goes etc.
flies around topic in roflcopter hahahaaha randomness!
@Anonymous Hey Anon. that was "cut" here, I will apologize for one thing, the spontanous accusation That was out of line for me and I sorry, But from what the 4:38 Anon. posted, I do not Take back "Let's you do better" in fact, I hereby Indict T.Brony Stacks For advertising on a Faulty Platform, You would do well in PR my Friend as That was some good tap dancing you did.
Also, it's an abridged seires it's not SUPPOSED to be original.
DO it to make people Laugh not to stroke your ego.
@Anonymous i dont know if KoC is doing any more but they are taking constructive criticism in the video comments and responding to it. so when the next episode of KOC:MLP:FIM:Abridged comes out i expect it to be way better.
For the love of Celestia please don't ever do memes. That would be extremely terrible. Something that is good stands up on it's merits alone without resorting to memetics. If it is really good it spawns memes from itself.
See Valve and Portal. They made something extremely good without the use of memes and such. Now look at blizzard. The only reason they still exist is to make references to other people for the laughs which comes out desperate in my opinion.
That was my first introduction to mlp abridged, and as I can tell there is some drama involved I am oblivious of, that spawns all those haters. Well, I don't care much about it anyway.
From a non-bias point of view I can tell it was extremely funny (fluttershy and pinkie pie part was hilarious) and voices matched pretty well. Totally looking forward to seeing more of it.
>See Valve and Portal. They made something extremely good without the use of memes and such. Now look at blizzard. The only reason they still exist is to make references to other people for the laughs which comes out desperate in my opinion.
Wow, this is some serious logic problems right here. Last time I checked all three blizzard universes were doing great, without any kind of desperation mode. Moreover, here are some news for you: Blizzard was referencing media and memes as long ago as Warcraft I.
It is very very hard to spoof a comedy. Most of the jokes are either the same as in the cartoon (what's the point of that) or memes, or just 'hur hur sex'. That isn't how comedy works, sorry guys.
YuGiOh Abridged works because the show is very po-faced and straight, thus can be spoofed easily.
Hah! Okay, so far so good! I hope you'll keep at this... I know it takes a while to find your voice and style. That said, ummm... if these guys ^^^ are getting to you, it might be better to quit while you're ahead. If you're doing something like this, you just can't take criticism personally. Hate doubly so.
I hope you find these criticisms constructive. :)
Overbearing Bookworm Twilight is striking me as more cringeworthy than funny -- particularly in the Fluttershy scene. The bit with Applejack was great -- more of this. "As much as I love homosexual cowboys..." :) The voice itself is very fitting, though! Conairskye just needs to get more comfortable with her delivery.
No Rarity?! D:-
I like the permanent Flutterguy, but I do think you could back off the attitude a little.
The pacing was pretty slow, but I assume that will improve with time.
Amandaje needs to back off from the mic when doing Pinkie. It's clipping. Outside of that, love the rendition. :D
If you do inner monologue in the future, the echo needs to be way, way lower. I can hardly understand the lines. A little of that goes a long way.
Like an anon above said, people normally speak with ums and uhs, interrupt each other, talk over one another, and so on. That's the difference between sounding like you're speaking normally and reading a script. If you watch the Sweet Apple Acres scene in the original, for example, Twilight barely gets half her lines out uninterrupted.
@Anonymous So anything they try to do that is "funny" is because of them? I'm just saying outside of the games quality Blizzard relies heavily on other people to stay relevant. Which then interns date them as soon as it goes away.
Things that get references pulled from them don't get dated. Unlike things that take references and drag them in the ground. It's the lowest form of humor.
Rarity's voice is awesome in the spanish dub, but I'm a little confused -- are you calling her Rarity or Rareza? Spanish is nowhere near my first language, but I know enough to follow along if I already know what's being said. :)
@Luna-Night There is nothing wrong with referencing on its own. If done properly, hunting for well placed references might be an exciting thing to do by itself.
Making references doesn't mean its a bad comedy. Making stupid references in a stupid fashion, however, does. I wouldn't argue with that.
Thank you everypony for their input on the abridged series! I can’t speak for the rest of the team but I really appreciate it! Whether you loved it or didn’t, I’d like to thank you from the bottom of my heart for watching it! Now to address the elephant in the room. I understand some of you are rather angry that you were not granted a part, however this does not give you permission to b’aaaaw everywhere and express hatred for the cast and crew. As a director, I know that people who do this are not ever cast as any role. No one likes a bad attitude. You could be the best actor in the world but no one is going to ever give you a role if you whine and bitch. This not to say that everyone was this way and I am really grateful for those of you who gave constructive feedback. Making any type of series with acting, editing, and comedy is most definitely a learning process. We made mistakes. Looking on back on my performance, I understand where most of you guys are coming from. We all have to start at some point. And again, I truly appreciate all of you feedback. If you have any feedback for me personally don’t hesitate to message me on YouTube (conairskye). Or if you want to remain anon, you can also contact me on tumblr (fayeskye). My inbox is always open and I want to give you guys the best performance I can! I love being part of this team and of course this fandom! You guys are always inspiring me to improve and push myself! I can’t thank you guys enough. - Conner
MLP Abridged has potential. I'm wholeheartedly in agreement that the memes don't work if they're a major part of the script. When I write for Sonic F (or Camaraderie is Supernatural), there's specific rules I follow. For F, I leave all the pop culture jokes specifically to Chris, while in the case of CIS, Pinkie is the designated source of fourth wall humor (which is going to play a major role in the upcoming second episode). In both cases, though, my general rule of thumb when writing pop culture/meme jokes is "Will this still be funny in six months?". Because if someone starts watching a year after the episode comes out and a meme's been driven into the ground or there's a pop culture joke that only made sense at a very specific time, they're not going to get it or won't find it funny, and that'll turn people off.
Still, going forward, I wish you guys good luck with future episodes, and hope you succeed. Of course, since we ARE doing more CIS, not too much luck. ^_^
@Anonymous Oh totally! A well placed reference can do wonders. I just get so annoyed by Cake jokes or 9000 jokes. It's like can we let it die? It's been ran into the ground so much we don't need to have the dead horse beaten anymore.
Subtlety is the key, but A LOT of people don't realize it. That's why I'm like no there should not be memes in the show. I'm afraid that it'll get overused or not even fit.
I know the official show has a lot of references in them, but often are put in as something that fits in quite well with what they're doing. Like the Pinkie Pie chasing RD skit.
maybe I don't want to chill. Maybe I think when a minority comes to another country they should have respect and learn the language. And don't we speak English on this site?
Multilingual societies eventually turn on each other. It's just a matter of time. But a country with one language never really devolves into civil war.
Screw Spanish. Everyone of these videos should be in English
I see some people planning on working or finishing their own version..was also thinking of doing a random thing for the lawlz...hmm I may have an idea but going to wait to see how these comments and future episodes develop
While the Abridged episode wasn't bad, it still has alot of ground to cover. The thing that bugged me the most was the syncing. If I may, TFS(Team Four Star) has all kinds of tutorials that might give assistance to some of the needs that you may need to help improve the quality. The voices for the most part matched the characters pretty well, though some were short lived and others didn't appear at all, and the acting quality was not bad. All in all, I applaud you guys for making the attempt and look forward to future installments!
You DO realize your post is completely irrelevant to this?
Oh, sorry, I failed to notice that ever since today, Sethisto/Cereal have started posting news in spanish. My bad.
A brony decided to dub two clips for the spanish speakers, how is that even "having respect" for another language? Because all you're doing is implying that every spanish speaker lives in America.
Thank you for all the kind comments on my two fandubs!! I really appriciate it, and it's such an honor for them to be in here. Ando about the "Rareza" it was a little small script error me and my boyfriend made (oops!) But thank you so much!!
@Anonymous Guess you can't understand the "Love and Tolerate" doctrine of bronies... Sir, the real world is full of different cultures and people. Change the hate for love, and the annoyance for tolerance. I had to learn your language to post in several blogs, message boards and forums (including this one, of course) and you don't see me complaining... Instead, I'm happy about using a different language and putting some rational and clearly understandable ideas on my posts :)
Chill out dude. Why don't you learn spanish? You're not that old to start ;)
Posted by: a mexican cabrony, living in Guadalahoofra.
I tried to like the Abridged I really did but it's not for me. I know this series is still a foal and room to improve but almost every series will come short of TFS and Yugioh abridged.
With that said good luck with the rest of the series.
MLP abridged tries too hard to make overly lewd and disgusting jokes that completely divert away from the innocent and playful nature of the original show. If they tried staying closer to the spirit of the show and still tossed in some slightly mocking jokes, without delving into so much outhouse humor, it'd be a lot better.
@Anonymous Wow, i can really tell that you're a racist. Especially with that "third world gutter-languages" thing that you said. That is just plain rude.
It's NEVER TOO LATE TO Learn, Old man Mexican dude! Quit picking on your elders and FOR FUCKS SAKE You still care what people say!? ''plain rude''? screw you, if you wanna be a brainwashed pony in pony land where everyone talks nice then go to PonyChan. Now if one of you respond to this that means two things: either you're enjoying the crap out of this or you're just too pissed off to ignore it
I'm just saying this is how it begins. First there's a few pony videos in Spanish, then more and more and more. Then finally when I wanna find a pony video it'll all be in f*cking SPANISH! I don't want it that way!
it's bad enough they advertised a commercial for Telemundo in front of my AMERICAN movie. A commercial for Spanish language television! In an English theater? That s p[roof people aren't learning English and thinking they can create a country within a country...and demanding rights and all that garbage. You're criminals and you're INVADERS. And you've worn out your welcome. I'm not the only one who thinks this. It's just others are too scared of being called racists. ( Boo hoo )
See, this is how the end of all good things starts.
For me the abridged was ok it needs work but that should come in time. My favorite parts the little side videos with derpy, those were funny or at least different. I'll be watching so keep working!
Loved the Spanish dubs. Both actresses managed to capture the characters perfectly! Keep up the great work!
For the MLP Abridged: it did make me chuckle one or two times. I think it has potential. As another poster pointed out, it's difficult to make fun of a series which already doesn't take itself too seriously. But then, YGO:TAS wasn't that great when it started out (seriously, go back and watch the first ep). Voice acting, editing and writing will all improve the more these guys work at it. The only way you can learn is by putting something out there and seeing how the audience reacts!
As for the many suggestions / demands on what the Abridged team MUST do to succeed:
"More balloons! No, that's too many balloons! More candy! Oh, less candy! Oh wait, I know! STREAMERS!!!"
Do bear in mind that it takes a LOT of work and organisation to make a video like this, and that the best a comedy writer can do is to write what makes THEM laugh and hope it makes other fans laugh, too. Give them criticism, sure, but give them encouragement too.
Finally, to our Spanish bronies, apologies for that *other* Anon who seems intent on derailing this topic to make a racist rant. I'm sure other bronies will agree he does NOT speak for the majority and that we love having you and your awesome Spanish language dubs!
As a spaniard I can say those dubs were really good!
They have a very thick south american accent but it adds a lot to the characters. Fluttershy sounds scarier with that Iñigo Montoya vibe to her voice XD
If I could give the creators of the series one tip it'd be this: crude does not mean funny. Please try not to divert to crude jokes involving sex, strokes, etc. It doesn't belong in the show, spoof or otherwise and it lends nothing to the comedic value. I'm not trying to nit pick with the writers of this show, but when you start reverting to poop jokes and the like, you are doing it WRONG. For an abridged series, you should be making fun of the characters and the logical fallacies already present in the show. Show the absurdity of MLP and put up huge signposts pointing it out! That's the entire reason why abridged series exist!
For example, the bit where Pinkie Pie calls Twilight emo? That's FUNNY! It's funny because it's plausible given Twilight's often sardonic state of mind in the actual show! When we see that we think "This is WAY more accurate than it should be" and we laugh our asses off. This stuff is GOLDEN.
On the other hoof, the bit where Applejack wants Twilight to watch Brokeback Mountain with her? I don't get it. Is it a gay joke? A joke about how awkward Applejack is being? A commentary on how many times Applejack has been shipped? This stuff falls flat because it's forced and doesn't accomplish anything besides awkwardly pointing out that Brokeback Mountain is a movie about gay cowboys. It's not funny, it's just immature.
I see potential for the abridged series, but for it to work you're going to have to do a lot of work with the writing. Reevaluate your approach to the script and I'm positive your show will be 120% cooler.
Spanish dub team: I bring love and flowers for you! Also, apologies for having to read the hateful screed of that one Anonymous poster.
My Little Pony is enjoyed by kids and adults around the world. That includes Malaysian viewers like myself and my friends, as well as discerning fans around the world. Just because the show was originally produced in English doesn't mean it belongs solely to the province of U.S. or Canadian fans.
The more languages we can use to bring ponies to every home in the world, the better. I know a Uruguayan who would love to enjoy an entire episode in Spanish. And it really helps that the demo we've heard so far was voiced by such a talented voice actress!
So don't let the panicky, fearful and hateful little racist pinhead derail things. Keep going forward, my Spanish-speaking bronies.
That abridged series made me finally decide that I'm going to do my own version. I already run my own series YGOTAS style but I'm gonna try doing MLP now :D Expect it to come out within the next month :X
@Mr.Blank Well, it happens I don't want to go to Ponychan. And it happens I'm enjoying this a lot.
I'm amazed of you guys with your biased comments and your limited sight. Gimme solid arguments and I'll argue with solid arguments. Meanwhile, I'll go to stretch my legs around Equestria, since being 24/7 in front of my computer is quite boring :)
I don't speak Spanish, I don't understand a thing from those fandubs so I can't judge how well they are translated. What I can tell is that the way they sound and feel are very close to the original one, so I really liked it :) Wouldn't be surprised if the Spanish speaking fans were absolutly amazed by it.
i didnt like the abrided one. the only time i laughed is when it told me not to. i think i might be demented.
on the other hand, June 14 is my birthday, so... i'll give them a chance. for now.
spanish dubs make spanish fun!
dont read this. i sat here for 3 hours reading every comment, watched all the links, and am so barn tierd. is 5;30 in the mornnin. but i must pony. people hate gaga for brony. racict hate race for brony. hif hitler for pony, not real brony. love and tolhorance!
@Kai Lord Wow wow wow WAIT, did I heard you say, Malaysian? Sweet mother of Celestia, finally, another Malaysian Brony @ A @
/ahem that aside I DEFINITELY LOVED the spanish dub ^^ Now I wonder how they would sound in Japanese /PinkiegoingDESUDESUiscreepythough...
And the abridge... Umm, the jokes aren't really funny Actually, I didn't quite enjoy this But since most of the others already said it, I guess they should just improve I'll be looking forward to it though ... Alright, you know what? Just what this http://youtu.be/2vAEOuwFxzg [No offence to the other MLP abridged makers]
Whoever was calling the shots on that abridged didn't seem to have a clear sense of timing, subtlety, or even much humor. The script was not really very insightful or clever, either.
The mics were bad, the voice actors may have sounded like the characters, but some of them seemed afraid of their lines.
As for the fact that the leader of the series just left deadlines open and sacrificed his own good health to post a mediocre abrdiged at 3:00 AM, that's kind of a huge red flag. It makes him look like the "self-sacrificial" personality type and like he doesn't have a lot of spine. Worrying that he won't find a role if he doesn't put his foot down and being upset because the people expected a specific release date.
I might watch the next one, but only because free entertainment is free entertainment. I hope they can admit, though, that if people can't even be happy with paying them time, then they've got a looong way to go.
Ok, since no one has mentioned it... Am I the only who thinks of Nagato from FullMetalChao's Haruhi Adbridged when he hears Fluttershy? I swear to god I smelled that from miles away! ...Oh yeah, what were we saying? Oh! Right. Badbadbad. The only voices without complete deadpan and monotone were Twilight and Pinkie (who were freaking spot on, I might add) Editing was worse than ChickenWings's DBZ Abridged, and there was no real theme to the writing. From a scale of 1 (being a Seltzer and Friedberg movie) and 5 (being a YGO Abridged, or a Mel Brooks movie), this is a 2. There are definitely some stuff that works (Derpy in general, and Pinkie's rapid-fire riffs, never giving you the time to dwell on a bad joke). NEEDS ALOT OF TLC. (Not Total Lost Cause)
I have a theory on why so many people including myself found the MLP Abridged to be disappointing. A good abridged series is usually made by lampooning the silliness inherent in shows that take themselves seriously, Yugioh or Gundam or Deathnote being good examples of abridging that worked well on this principle. But FiM is presented as a comedy, and is self-aware enough to lampoon most of its own silliness already, there really isn't much for an abridging group to add at that point.
I'm not sure if the title of 'abridged' seems that fitting, but I liked it for the parodical take it was. Clear voiceovers that matched up pretty well, and I was pleasantly surprised at the voice for Twilight sounding somewhat similar to the oiriginal in the cartoon - but that might just be me.
I know a series with potential when I see one, And I can honestly say That I see no potential in this series whatsoever unless it is redone from the ground up. I tried to enjoy it. I really did. But all I see is yet another video fallen victim to Sturgeon's law.

@Anonymous WHAT?!? But FimFlamFilosophy is good too! (You also have to give him points for being the only series that updates on a semi-regular schedule.)
Tried it right now, it was still okay. The jokes are bland and the writing is okay. I did like the: "Did she just go through puberty backwards?" part but other than that, it wasn't all that great.
I'm probably biased because I love Friendship is Witchcraft and The Mentally Advanced Series, though.
Uh... not bad. I especially loved the part with the Elements of Parody! Wait, that's not this one? Well, but this has the Rarity killing Steven, and the RPG Fight Scene, this is CLEARLY Camaraderie is Supernatural, right?
Meh, I gotta say I didn't really enjoy the abridged series much. It suffers from what a lot of Abridged Series do in their first few episodes, where the comedic timing is off since the creators seem to still be getting their editting down. Prett much any time there was a joke that relied on quick timing, there was a pause before the punch line. It's not bad for a first outing, but I have to admit I liked the "Mentally Advanced" series that was posted yesterday. It was just a lot more ridiculous and off the wall. This one just seemed to be "Friendship Is Magic: Now with extra swearing!"
The Jokes in the second episode were superb in comparison to the first.
I chuckled out loud several times.
Now, that you guys have the jokes down, you can work on making it slightly more aesthetically pleasing. The voices. Like, sometimes the voices really grate at my ears. Although imitation of the original voices is to be expected. In abridged series (as in all cartoons) the voices have to be able to stand on their own and not be annoying. It is much better to have a good voice that is deviant from the original than to have a close-to-the-original voice but make it hard to listen to. It is because of this fact that I believe that Fluttershy's voice is in fact the best voice, because her's is the most aesthetically pleasing.
But aesthetics come with practice. Thank Celestia that you guys are funny, cuz' that's what the basis of an Abridged Series is.
P.S. I love how you guys made fun of yourselves; that's the sign of a true comedian.
Don't get me wrong, it wasn't terrible or anything, just not as good as the other parodies (Friendship is Witchcraft, Mentally Advanced, and Camaraderie Is Supernatural). I don't like just saying "This is bad" or "I don't like this" without saying why or giving some kind of constructive criticism, so I tried to think of what the weaknesses were and how it could be improved.
One of my main is that many of the jokes, especially in the first episode, were just slightly rewritten versions of the same joke from the original show (Fluttershy having a "Flutterguy" voice, Fluttershy exclaiming "A BABY ANIMAL!" which is only slightly different from the joke in the show "AH! A BABY DRAGON!", etc.) The second episode didn't have this problem as much, but it had a similar issue of having slightly altered versions of the same joke from OTHER parodies. The 8-bit fight and the joke about killing the serpent were VERY similar to jokes in Camaraderie Is Supernatural (and in my opinion, were done much more effectively in that series on both accounts). It just doesn't make this parody come off as very original or having that many new, clever jokes to make about the show that haven't been done before.
There were also quite a few jokes that either had off timing or went on for too long. The second episode had this problem especially. The sex jokes with Rainbow Dash ... I don't really mind vulgar jokes so the first joke made me chuckle a bit, but it just went on and on with the same joke three or four more times. Then there was the joke with cutting off Pinkie's song which, honestly, is a funny idea for a joke, but the timing was just off. If she was cut off right when she was starting, it would have been much funnier. It could have done with some tighter editing to fix those issues, I think.
But the biggest problem I had was that none of the characters in this series seem to have much personality. What I mean by that is that every character just seems like a vehicle to deliver a joke. There wasn't much about the performance of their writing to show off their characters. I'm not saying I wanted the ponies to have totally different personalities from the show (after all, Camaraderie Is Supernatural has the ponies with the canon personalities for the most part, but still putting a fresh spin on it, like making Pinkie a fourth wall breaker), but the writing and jokes in a good comedy should always serve the characters delivering the jokes. But in this series, they don't really seem to have much personality. None of the characters are written in such a way that makes them stand out like they do in other parodies. They just seem like blander shadows of the originals, without really preserving the same personality the original ponies had.
Now, having said that, I did like parts of it. I thought the Rocky Horror Picture Show joke was funny, if only because I like that movie. Pinkie Pie's jokes about Twilight being emo were a little funny to. I honestly found the "Did she hit puberty backwards?!" joke was pretty clever. If every joke in the series was that clever, I'd definitely like it a lot more. The voice actors were good (even if the sound quality wasn't great in some spots). But aside from that, there wasn't much that stood out.
So that's what I thought of the series. I think it can still be improved. Like I said, it wasn't terrible. I want it to do well, that's why I typed all this out. All these problems can be fixed if they're really worked at. I'm not just saying all this to be mean or anything. I really hope the creators look at my suggestions and use that to improve future episodes.
I had a hard time watching it, it just wasn't funny well except for the "Did she hit puberty backwards?" that made me smile. Personally I'm just going to stick with Friendship is Witchcraft and maybe Camadarie, not a fan of the Mentally Advanced Series though.
Guys guys, I looked it up. Here is the order of best abridged series'. 1. Friendship is Witchcraft 2. Camaraderie is Supernatural 3. Mentally Advanced Series 4. The "Official" Abridged series
I hated this. But it started to become a little tolerable closer to the end of the video and I actually laughed at a couple jokes at the ending.
And for a few seconds, Fluttershy's weird voice was legitimately amusing at all for a few seconds during the manticore scene. But I doubt they could keep that up with the voice thing unless they have some fucking genius prodigy script writer in their team.
Overall, this video was BAD, but it definitely exceeded my expectations.
Fun Fact: FimFlamFilosophy (The guy behind The Mentally Advanced Series) wrote a large part of the script for the 2nd episode before he left to make his series. So the 3rd episode will probably lose any quality that it gained from the 2nd. I guess we'll find out in 3 months.
I'm sorry but the people here on Equestria Daily are some of the most critical people in the pony community I have ever seen.
It would be nice if people were more helpful and gave constructive criticism, and if more people said "hey, they got better, it's clear they are working very hard on this despite how bad the first episode was received. Maybe they have some great potential." maybe the team could actually work harder to be funnier for you guys.
Pretty meh. Some of these voice overs need better editing, I mean common I can barely hear some of the voices while pinkie is loud as hell.
Also, they need to get over their writing drama crap. MLP mentally advanced put out 8 episodes in the time it took them to make 1. And that dude can write better by himself then all of them jockeying their own jokes into a mishmashed video.
@Anonymous But they don't have great potential. They don't have any potential, really. There have been plenty of posts outlining what went wrong and its idiotic to ask that EVERYONE has to type out some huge essay pointing out what they didn't like when you've got a perfectly good one here:
The series overall lacks originality, and the whole thing seems like a huge train-wreck (they've got 3 directors and everyone writes the scripts). Plus, the one writer who had any talent left to make his own abridged series.
When something sucks, sometimes you just have to say it sucks. Not everything has to be sugar-coated.
No matter how hard your words are, Equestria Daily bronies, WE WONT GIVE UP. We THRIVE to get better, because FRIENDSHIP IS MAGIC, and we will take our own powers of friendship to be the very best that we can, no matter how much you kick us down! We are learning with each passing episode, and it's very evidently clear that episode 2 surpasses episode 1.
We don't 'suck'. We just have a lot of room for improvement. A LOT. I'm just one person in this group, but dammit, I love this team and I love how dedicated everyone is to it, despite how much we get kicked down by the people here. We have legitimate fans who love us, and are confident in our abilities. And for that, we will keep going strong.
Equestria Daily is full of hard to impress people. But we will eventually prove we're worth something to you, somehow. We take our mistakes and we grow from them. We learn.
So look out, no matter how much you complain, there WILL be an episode 3.
I thought this wasn't that funny, but to all the people here saying FimFlam is better - are you on drugs? He's just as unfunny (I have NEVER laughed at any of his videos. Ever.) and his actual video quality is a lot worse than this, as far as the amount of effort put into the editing goes.
Camaraderie is Supernatural is by far the best, the rest pale in comparison.
@Anonymous Opinions, how do they work? (How do you not like Pinkie, though?)
But honestly, I just don't see what's so great about that series. The Elements of Parody part was too cheesy for me. But I do have to give them points for the song parody and the Gurren Lagann reference.
The 2nd episode was clearly better than the last one, although you still need more improvement
One thing I like about Episode 2 is that: I could tolerate this Fluttershy. I didn't like how Fluttershy was in the first episode. Plus that part wasn't synced very well, so I didn't really enjoyed it. But for episode 2, I can say I could giggle whenever she talks, especially during the manticore scene. My advice is to keep her character a loud mouth but make sure she's quite most of the time.
I'm not sure what to say about the others, but keep up the good work! Hope to see more from you guys!

YES. THIS. :D
ReplyDeleteNow I can spread the joy of ponies to my spanish friends!
OMG, these are VERY VERY well done.
ReplyDeleteI know, cause Spanish is my first language o3o
MLP Abridged has potential to say the least, but the biggest problem with it is how it relies far too heavily on pre-existing jokes within the main show.
ReplyDeleteI found the abridge very.. meh.. the jokes felt too forced for me.
ReplyDeleteThe abridged was better than I expected it would be. It has potential.
ReplyDeleteAbridged didn't make me smile once...
ReplyDeleteI was looking forward to it, I hope it gets improvement.
I saw the fluttershy part coming a mile away.
ReplyDeleteThe abridged series was kind of disappointing even for a first episode. The pacing way too slow, and half of the time it was like they weren't even TRYING to be funny. An abridged series shouldn't feel more slow and dull than the show it's supposed to be parodying...
ReplyDeleteThose dubs are great! They picked some good actors for Rarity and Fluttershy plus the sound quality is great. Too bad I don't have any Spanish speaking friends.
ReplyDeleteThe abridged has a lot of potential, if they keep at it and work on the voices and jokes, it can come into it's own.
ReplyDeletethe spanish dub was pretty good :D
ReplyDeleteas for the abridged version well i never really liked those parodies so i'l pass
dat rarity voice, superb
ReplyDeleteI would like to say that everypony not waste their type on commenting the abriged series, the director is on of the "Let's see you do better" types, He cut me from the team without even telling me.
ReplyDeleteI like the Abridged series. The humor is kinda hit and miss (I'm a prude who dislikes sexual humor, sorry), but that's just me. The music also isn't to my liking (again, just me). I do like the way it fits together overall, however.
ReplyDeleteOf course, I'm not sure if it being called an "Abridged Series" is proper since it kinda rewrites the story. I've only seen YGO:TAS, but I have noticed that the general plot in each episode is the same (though every tiny hole is exposed and exploited).
I do see how making it truly abridged is difficult given the lack of any real plot from one episode to the next. As such, there isn't much that can be cut out.
Flutterguy fuck yeah.
ReplyDeleteSome of the microphones could have been a teeny bit clearer but it was still pretty good.
@Anonymous
ReplyDeleteKind of a good thing that I'm planning out how to do my own then?
By planning, I mean considering.
ReplyDeleteHaha, awesome! I'm glad Sethisto put up those Spanish fan dubs :) I've been personally seeking dubs for the show, but aside from a French and Mexican opening video and that Portuguese episode of The Ticket Master I haven't had any luck.
ReplyDeleteI gotta say though, Sonic F's April Fool's joke with the ponies was a much nicer one, though I don't wish to berate these new guys with their attempts.
ReplyDelete@Kill me, I'm a PONY
ReplyDeleteMore power to you my friends
I'm going to follow the trend here and say that the abridged series.... needs some work. Animation is visual and audio, and since you already have the visual with an abridged series...
ReplyDeletePacing was slow, with numerous blank spots. Even just saying "um" gives the characters a little more feeling behind them... and there was little coherence. AND THERE WAS NO RARITY.
The Spanish dubs were just INCREDIBLE...and to think that those Spanish classes that I hated back then would come in handy...
ReplyDeleteMy first language is Spanish, and these are VERY WELL DONE! Maybe I can convert at least one more brony with those.
ReplyDeletehttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Nv8gZ8jGAA
ReplyDeleteTHIS. PLEASE.
Abridged has much potential! much!!!!
ReplyDelete@Anonymous
ReplyDeleteActually, here is a little bit I through together in response to the GIANT ROCK bit from YGO:TAS with MLP characters
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6q_HIBl1ER4
Not original at all, but was just me messing around (since it totally fits the character exploited...). Not bad for a first video with minimal editing, if I do say so myself (which I do).
Those two clips were great, the voices are spot on for all characters. Now I just hope the official dub will be this good.
ReplyDelete@Anonymous
ReplyDeleteI'm part of the team and I don't remember ANYONE being kicked out. Are you sure you were part of the team? Or did you just assume because someone said they liked your audition?
Five minutes ago I was discussing string theory. Now I'm watching Poni. I'm a complex individual.
ReplyDeleteI really wanted to love the abridged version, but something about it wasn't nearly as great as I was hoping it would be. I think the humor was a bit random. Which isn't a bad thing, but it was just too random.
ReplyDeleteIt was a matter of time that we got some Spanish dubs in here. They are well done! Really good
ReplyDeleteI see Spanish voice actors having much potential in these dubs. Heck I can probably try a dub myself but there aren't many male ponies out there. Fluent in Spanish but my literacy in it lacks, though.
Still, I'm already etching to see some Spanish version already.
@Anonymous
ReplyDeleteI don't recall ever cutting anyone from our team.
OH THE DUB
ReplyDeleteIt was really well done, Fluttershy was INCREDIBLE, but...
*coughU OSOScough*
Remember how this started out?
ReplyDeletehttp://www.dailymotion.com/video/x1f6qo_ygo-the-abridged-series-episode-one_fun
Just give us a chance, ok?
Another member of the team here. I personally expected as much in terms of reactions to the first episode, it was kind of done on it's own and a little rushed BUT I assure you we are all working together now, gathering the elements of comedy to make the future episodes 20% cooler than the first one. So don't give up on us, the more supportive words we get, the better we'll strive to be!
ReplyDeleteMuch love to all the bronies <3
The voice actors for the abridged should take a lesson from the Spanish fandubs. I don't understand Spanish, but I can still understand the meaning and personality of the lines through their delivery. The Spike v.a. especially needs work on this.
ReplyDeleteThat and the abridged series needs some better writing/editing so that the moments are funnier, after all, the key to comedy is timing.
Spanish is a second language of mine, but even I could catch the quality that was put into those two second videos. That was completely golden! Well done to the Spanish bronies who put their efforts into that. I would totally re-watch all the episodes in Spanish with quality dubs like that.
ReplyDeleteAt the very least, it would help me brush up.
Eh. I'm gonna' side with Kill me, I'm a PONY on this one.
ReplyDeleteI was hoping for something more along the lines YGO:Abridged, where most of the humor is based along the pot of the episode rather than the characters themselves.
I did enjoy Pinkie Pie's scene very much, though.
the spanish dub was FABULOUS~! more please!
ReplyDeleteApplejack: (Seeing the Abridged episode) It sure is... uh... somethin'...
ReplyDeleteTwilight: Yes! Something!
Pinkie Pie: I like "something"! "Something" is my favorite!
Fluttershy: It's... nice.
I'll go with the general "meh" reaction to the abridged, BUT I do really like their voice for Twilight. Applejack seems pretty good too from the brief snippit. So I'll probably give it another chance.
ReplyDeleteThey really do need to up the pacing though.
@GreenGuy
ReplyDeleteYou sir, win an internet.
I am going to love and tolerate the shit out of the abridge series! They didn't cast me in any role.
ReplyDelete{THE LIST OF WHAT YOU NEED IS AT THE BOTTOM}
ReplyDeleteIf Critic-Troll rants affect you & you are a member of the team and watched yugioh abridged and many others and you want to make the show better then don't read this.
Warning this contains a critic and caps lock
This probably is just the Alpha/Beta episode, and will get better, or another group will take on the challenge but i simply don't like the starting point which has been presented to us.
N.M. is watching you masturbate? dunno EXPLOIT IT but then again it's probably because MLP FIM has such a big quality it makes us expect more...yeah right
I See it...this is all your masterplan of turning our love into hatred so we do the shown on our own and get the quality way frigging higher
My only concern now is if another team is gonna remake it WHICH THEY ARE, are they gonna use half decent voices of females, LaughAtMe Voices or really Macho Voices for ponies like in PonyCraft 2 which we all loved(OVER 10.000 Likes!)
Now i did promise you a list =)
-BGM For atmosphere
-Internet Refferences
-Memorable moments
-Songs(YES SONGS)BGM can cover shitty lyrics a lot
-Kidnap Lauren Faust(wait what?)
-Watch other people's works which are actually G(O)(O)D and inspire yourself from that
-Change the voice moods once in a while
-Don't Rush it(except if it's funny and makes sense)
-CONSULT THE GOD DAMN FANS(professional bronies), Helloooo we're hereee you need help? CALL US!
Wow i just stood 1 whole hour to type all this
This is the Nostalgia Critic's Viewer rant, outbursts are at fixed hours, hope to see you soon next time!
@ 3:58 Anon Yeah they didn't cast me either but you should give them a try anyway. Support your fellow bronies.
ReplyDeleteAnd as for the Spanish Subs, WOW!
ReplyDelete@The Nostalgia Critic Even though you aren't Doug walker, I must say, You. WIN.
ReplyDelete@The Nostalgia Critic
ReplyDeleteSomeone please give this man a pony.
Mlp abridged is great but not the best...
ReplyDeleteWas it supposed to be funny? O.o
ReplyDeleteAbridged does away with the characterizations that go so well with the art style in order to make some jokes. That sacrifice isn't entirely necesary:it's possible to make good jokes without changing characterizations! Not easy, but possible. That would be the route I would prefer. I'll be glad to give future jokes some thought, if no one else will.
ReplyDeletei prefer the knights of canterlot's mlp abridged
ReplyDeletehttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2vAEOuwFxzg&feature=player_profilepage
From the creator of the MLP:FiM Abridged Series, regarding why he cast so many people spontaneously without a deadline:
ReplyDelete"I understand what you and a lot of other people are saying about that, but to be honest I'm casting roles as I go because it's a lot easier for me.
Bad work ethic, bad results... just plain BAD.
@Anonymous
ReplyDeleteThat's still bad, but damn, if it isn't miles better than the other one. KoC's at least has good pacing and a few "lol" moments. The one in EqD's post is just... bleh.
sees Nostalgia Critic's post
ReplyDeleteoooo quite the rant there hah.
Aww I didn't get a part. Thought my spike was ok meh.
Anyway yeah the series has potential. Need some more music / sound effects etc, more emotion blah blah internet memes etc etc. It IS the first episode so yeah let's see how episode 2 goes etc.
flies around topic in roflcopter
hahahaaha randomness!
ReplyDeleteAlso, it's an abridged seires it's not SUPPOSED to be original.
DO it to make people Laugh not to stroke your ego.
@Anonymous
ReplyDeletei dont know if KoC is doing any more but they are taking constructive criticism in the video comments and responding to it. so when the next episode of KOC:MLP:FIM:Abridged comes out i expect it to be way better.
For the love of Celestia please don't ever do memes. That would be extremely terrible. Something that is good stands up on it's merits alone without resorting to memetics. If it is really good it spawns memes from itself.
ReplyDeleteSee Valve and Portal. They made something extremely good without the use of memes and such. Now look at blizzard. The only reason they still exist is to make references to other people for the laughs which comes out desperate in my opinion.
Abridged doesn't have to be episodic. It could just be short, funny day-in-the-life snippits. the shorter, the better the quality will tend to be.
ReplyDelete...Or you could make it a so-bad-it's-funny sort of thing, but that might actually be harder to get right than my first suggestion.
...Or you could make comic-book style comics with the help of the drawfriends... like the Equestria Inquirer, or whatever it was called.
And now that I'm done with my suggestions... For the love of celestia, don't make more of the same abridged stuff!
That was my first introduction to mlp abridged, and as I can tell there is some drama involved I am oblivious of, that spawns all those haters. Well, I don't care much about it anyway.
ReplyDeleteFrom a non-bias point of view I can tell it was extremely funny (fluttershy and pinkie pie part was hilarious) and voices matched pretty well. Totally looking forward to seeing more of it.
>See Valve and Portal. They made something extremely good without the use of memes and such. Now look at blizzard. The only reason they still exist is to make references to other people for the laughs which comes out desperate in my opinion.
ReplyDeleteWow, this is some serious logic problems right here. Last time I checked all three blizzard universes were doing great, without any kind of desperation mode. Moreover, here are some news for you: Blizzard was referencing media and memes as long ago as Warcraft I.
MLP Abridged... oh dear.
ReplyDeleteIt is very very hard to spoof a comedy. Most of the jokes are either the same as in the cartoon (what's the point of that) or memes, or just 'hur hur sex'. That isn't how comedy works, sorry guys.
YuGiOh Abridged works because the show is very po-faced and straight, thus can be spoofed easily.
This comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteHah! Okay, so far so good! I hope you'll keep at this... I know it takes a while to find your voice and style.
ReplyDeleteThat said, ummm... if these guys ^^^ are getting to you, it might be better to quit while you're ahead.
@Anonymous
ReplyDeleteSo anything they try to do that is "funny" is because of them? I'm just saying outside of the games quality Blizzard relies heavily on other people to stay relevant. Which then interns date them as soon as it goes away.
Things that get references pulled from them don't get dated. Unlike things that take references and drag them in the ground. It's the lowest form of humor.
Those fandubs were amazing, I've gotta say.
ReplyDeleteI hope the MLPAbridged guys can fine-tune their concept so it's somewhere closer to the comic gold of the Sonic F one.
At LordOfTheWrongs comment
ReplyDeleteIndeed about the not giving a **** about the rage thing. It could be used for possible troll skits later! Mwhahahahaha!
Rarity's voice is awesome in the spanish dub, but I'm a little confused -- are you calling her Rarity or Rareza?
ReplyDeleteSpanish is nowhere near my first language, but I know enough to follow along if I already know what's being said. :)
@Luna-Night There is nothing wrong with referencing on its own. If done properly, hunting for well placed references might be an exciting thing to do by itself.
ReplyDeleteMaking references doesn't mean its a bad comedy.
ReplyDeleteNow to address the elephant in the room.

ReplyDeleteStill, going forward, I wish you guys good luck with future episodes, and hope you succeed. Of course, since we ARE doing more CIS, not too much luck. ^_^
The Sonic F one totally pwns this. Can't we just petition them to dump sonic and do MLP from now on?
ReplyDelete@Anonymous
ReplyDeleteOh totally!

ReplyDeleteUh, didn't you read my post? We're doing both. :D
@Anonymous
ReplyDeleteTHIS.
Sonic F's is extremely well made, kept me laughing throughout, it exceeded my expectations. HE should be making the abridged series :D
I find the abridged... I don't know. It was pretty enjoyable at times but it could... it should be much better.
ReplyDeleteThis is the first time I have been disappointed with a fan creation related to this show.
ReplyDeleteWell....I guess since it's the first one I can let it go, but I kinda of see the abriged one being a bit weak.
ReplyDeleteLater
Hm, the Abridged Series wasn't bad, but I had already seen a shot at a MLP abridged that was, I feel, a better effort.
ReplyDeletehttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Nv8gZ8jGAA
Apparently they plan on continuing it as a side project.
I lol'd so hard at Pinkie
ReplyDeleteIn english please. I hear enough Spanish onm the streets. Far too much. Isn't ANYONE who emigrates here learning english?
ReplyDelete@Anonymous
ReplyDeleteDude, chill. The fandub's for a Spanish-speaking audience.
maybe I don't want to chill. Maybe I think when a minority comes to another country they should have respect and learn the language. And don't we speak English on this site?
ReplyDeleteMultilingual societies eventually turn on each other. It's just a matter of time. But a country with one language never really devolves into civil war.
Screw Spanish. Everyone of these videos should be in English

ReplyDeleteThe abridged was pretty weak, IMO. Pinkie's part was good though.
ReplyDeleteI don't speak much Spanish but the Spanish dub's Rarity was pretty damn good IMO. Kudos to them.
I see some people planning on working or finishing their own version..was also thinking of doing a random thing for the lawlz...hmm I may have an idea but going to wait to see how these comments and future episodes develop
ReplyDeleteevil smirk
While the Abridged episode wasn't bad, it still has alot of ground to cover. The thing that bugged me the most was the syncing. If I may, TFS(Team Four Star) has all kinds of tutorials that might give assistance to some of the needs that you may need to help improve the quality. The voices for the most part matched the characters pretty well, though some were short lived and others didn't appear at all, and the acting quality was not bad. All in all, I applaud you guys for making the attempt and look forward to future installments!
ReplyDelete@Anonymous
ReplyDeleteMaybe they are not immigtrating, Thank for reinforcing My faith in humanity.
@Anonymous
ReplyDeletecool story, brony
@Anonymous
ReplyDeleteYou DO realize your post is completely irrelevant to this?
Oh, sorry, I failed to notice that ever since today, Sethisto/Cereal have started posting news in spanish. My bad.
A brony decided to dub two clips for the spanish speakers, how is that even "having respect" for another language? Because all you're doing is implying that every spanish speaker lives in America.
But I digress.. love and tolerance <3
Thank you for all the kind comments on my two fandubs!! I really appriciate it, and it's such an honor for them to be in here.
ReplyDeleteAndo about the "Rareza" it was a little small script error me and my boyfriend made (oops!)
But thank you so much!!
@Anonymous
ReplyDeleteYou are a god amongst bronies. I LOVED your voice in the fandubs, looking forward for more in the future <3
@Anonymous
ReplyDeleteD'aaw that's too kind! ;w;
Hopefully i can make more in the future!
You know what the best part of Abridged was? Cheerilee's gag. The rest was mostly a big miss for my tastes.
ReplyDeleteThe fandubs were awesome; I'd expect the spanish official dubbing being this good!
ReplyDeleteIN B4 reading peninsular spanish dubbing vs. latin spanish dubbing wars =0
ReplyDeleteChill out dude.
ReplyDeleteWith that said good luck with the rest of the series.
I wanted to like the MLP Abridged, but I didn't laugh once... >_>;
ReplyDeletebecause I'm too fucking old to learn and why in hell would I? So I can go to Mexico and get beheaded by the drug gangs that run the country?
ReplyDeleteI do not LEARN third world gutter-languages
MLP abridged tries too hard to make overly lewd and disgusting jokes that completely divert away from the innocent and playful nature of the original show. If they tried staying closer to the spirit of the show and still tossed in some slightly mocking jokes, without delving into so much outhouse humor, it'd be a lot better.
ReplyDelete@Anonymous
ReplyDeleteWow, i can really tell that you're a racist. Especially with that "third world gutter-languages" thing that you said.
That is just plain rude.
It's NEVER TOO LATE TO Learn, Old man
ReplyDeleteMexican dude!
ReplyDeleteit's bad enough they advertised a commercial for Telemundo in front of my AMERICAN movie. A commercial for Spanish language television! In an English theater? That
s p[roof people aren't learning English and thinking they can create a country within a country...and demanding rights and all that garbage.
ReplyDeleteLoved the Spanish dubs. Both actresses managed to capture the characters perfectly! Keep up the great work!
ReplyDeleteFor the MLP Abridged: it did make me chuckle one or two times.
ReplyDeleteThey have a very thick south american accent but it adds a lot to the characters.
ReplyDeleteFor example, the bit where Pinkie Pie calls Twilight emo?
@Anonymous
ReplyDeleteHATE DETECTED.
FIRING ORBITAL FRIENDSHIP BEAM.
The spanish was good.
ReplyDeleteThe abridged series fell flat on it's face for me - I was expecting a YGOTAS style piece as opposed to a forced, high-school humour.
I haven't heard the phrase 'emo' in a number of years, and calling someone it is still as unfunny now as then.
If the writing was as good as the voice acting this could be a positive review.
Spanish dub team: I bring love and flowers for you! Also, apologies for having to read the hateful screed of that one Anonymous poster.
ReplyDeleteMy Little Pony is enjoyed by kids and adults around the world.
ReplyDelete@Anonymous Yeah, you know? I've meet better "diamond dogs" and "parasprites" in another places. You aren't even trying.
ReplyDeleteBe happy living in your ignorance.
@Mr.Blank Well, it happens I don't want to go to Ponychan. And it happens I'm enjoying this a lot.
ReplyDeleteI'm amazed of you guys with your biased comments and your limited sight.
ReplyDeleteWhat I can tell is that the way they sound and feel are very close to the original one, so I really liked it :) Wouldn't be surprised if the Spanish speaking fans were absolutly amazed by it.

Predictable, boring and forced jokes. This was more annoying than funny.
ReplyDeleteThat's ok for me. I speak spanish :D
ReplyDeleteLoved the spanish dubs. Very fitting voices.
ReplyDeleteThe abridged ep... eh. Let's just say I'm not gonna be on the edge of my seat for the next episode.
i didnt like the abrided one. the only time i laughed is when it told me not to. i think i might be demented.
ReplyDeleteon the other hand, June 14 is my birthday, so...
i'll give them a chance. for now.
spanish dubs make spanish fun!
dont read this.
i sat here for 3 hours reading every comment, watched all the links, and am so barn tierd. is 5;30 in the mornnin. but i must pony. people hate gaga for brony. racict hate race for brony. hif hitler for pony, not real brony. love and tolhorance!

ReplyDeleteWow wow wow WAIT, did I heard you say, Malaysian?
Sweet mother of Celestia, finally, another Malaysian Brony @ A @
/ahem
that aside
I DEFINITELY LOVED the spanish dub ^^
Now I wonder how they would sound in Japanese /PinkiegoingDESUDESUiscreepythough...
And the abridge... Umm, the jokes aren't really funny
Actually, I didn't quite enjoy this
But since most of the others already said it, I guess they should just improve
I'll be looking forward to it though
... Alright, you know what? Just what this http://youtu.be/2vAEOuwFxzg
[No offence to the other MLP abridged makers]
Whoever was calling the shots on that abridged didn't seem to have a clear sense of timing, subtlety, or even much humor. The script was not really very insightful or clever, either.
ReplyDeleteThe mics were bad, the voice actors may have sounded like the characters, but some of them seemed afraid of their lines.
My problem with the abridged series is alot of the jokes just weren't funny if they try a little harder it could be really good.
ReplyDeleteyandere fluter shy
ReplyDeleteNO **** ***v **** ******* le quedo pintada!!!!
creo que me he enamorado
Ok, since no one has mentioned it...
ReplyDeleteAm I the only who thinks of Nagato from FullMetalChao's Haruhi Adbridged when he hears Fluttershy?
ReplyDeleteA good abridged series is usually made by lampooning the silliness inherent in shows that take themselves seriously, Yugioh or Gundam or Deathnote being good examples of abridging that worked well on this principle.
ReplyDeletethe other abridged series is alot better
ReplyDeleteThe spanish videos were deleted :(
ReplyDeleteI know a series with potential when I see one, And I can honestly say That I see no potential in this series whatsoever unless it is redone from the ground up.
ReplyDeleteI tried to enjoy it. I really did. But all I see is yet another video fallen victim to Sturgeon's law.
I know a series with potential when I see one, And I can honestly say That I see no potential in this series whatsoever unless it is redone from the ground up.
ReplyDeleteI tried to enjoy it. I really did. But all I see is yet another video fallen victim to Sturgeon's law.
I really wish all these abridged series would just disappear and Friendship is Witchcraft could be the official.
ReplyDeleteInstead of using "Fly", Pinkie Pie should have used "Cupcakes" and let the madness begin... >:)
ReplyDelete@Anonymous
ReplyDeleteWHAT?!? But FimFlamFilosophy is good too! (You also have to give him points for being the only series that updates on a semi-regular schedule.)
Well the 2nd episode was a major improvement! It went from painfully unfunny to just plain unfunny :/
ReplyDeletePS If your series had more Scootooloo I might consider watching it.
*Pinkie starts singing* "Yeah... that's not going to happen." lol
ReplyDeleteRarity killed Steven. o.o; Whoa. Don't mess with Rarity.
RD with the Shadowbolts... oh jeez. Figures. lol
This second one was pretty funny. I liked it. :D
Not gonna lie, pretty bad audio quality. Sounds like you recorded it in your basement...
ReplyDeleteIt could be good, but some serious work needs to be done on the timing.
ReplyDeleteI tried it when it first came out, it was okay.
ReplyDeleteTried it right now, it was still okay. The jokes are bland and the writing is okay. I did like the: "Did she just go through puberty backwards?" part but other than that, it wasn't all that great.
I'm probably biased because I love Friendship is Witchcraft and The Mentally Advanced Series, though.
@Anonymous
ReplyDeleteFriendship is Witchcraft?Don't you mean,My little pony the mentally advanced series?
"Bitch, I ain't flyin over there!" lol
ReplyDelete/me watches episode 2.
ReplyDeleteUh...
ReplyDelete@Anonymous
ReplyDeleteOh God. I knew it all seemed familiar. But you're completely correct. ._.
Yeah, like a lot of people have said, the timing's still a bit off. It's an improvement over the first, but it still feels pretty amateur.
ReplyDeleteThe Jokes in the second episode were superb in comparison to the first.
ReplyDeleteI chuckled out loud several times.
This was...
ReplyDeleteBleh.
Needs work, it didn't even make a joke of its own unoriginality. Nor did it do anywhere near as well in the scenes it ripped off.
I hope they are inexperienced in this and improve over time as their are a few hints of decent entertainment here.
I didn't really like it that much.
ReplyDeleteDon't get me wrong, it wasn't terrible or anything, just not as good as the other parodies (Friendship is Witchcraft, Mentally Advanced, and Camaraderie Is Supernatural).
Fluttershy : I know that feel bro
ReplyDeleteI lol'ed
Everyone's going on about Friendship is Witchcraft or the Mentally Advanced Series, but Camaraderie is Supernatural is still my favorite.
ReplyDeleteI did kind of like this one though, Rocky Horror Rarity was my favorite part.
The Rocky Horror Picture Show part was great.
ReplyDeleteIt aint that great but its nice
ReplyDeletethough youtube transcript audio made it funnier
Yay episode 2 :D
ReplyDeleteMeh, good voices but just not as funny as Mentally Advanced
ReplyDeleteI had a hard time watching it, it just wasn't funny well except for the "Did she hit puberty backwards?" that made me smile. Personally I'm just going to stick with Friendship is Witchcraft and maybe Camadarie, not a fan of the Mentally Advanced Series though.
ReplyDeleteWell, it wasn't as funny as i expected it to be...
ReplyDeleteBut what are these comments above ?

ReplyDeletethis is my favourate abridged series for mlp better than this one
Guys guys, I looked it up.
ReplyDeleteHere is the order of best abridged series'.
1. Friendship is Witchcraft
2. Camaraderie is Supernatural
3. Mentally Advanced Series
4. The "Official" Abridged series
I hated this. But it started to become a little tolerable closer to the end of the video and I actually laughed at a couple jokes at the ending.
ReplyDeleteAnd for a few seconds, Fluttershy's weird voice was legitimately amusing at all for a few seconds during the manticore scene. But I doubt they could keep that up with the voice thing unless they have some fucking genius prodigy script writer in their team.
Overall, this video was BAD, but it definitely exceeded my expectations.
They did alot better in second episode still room for betterment Keep going I believe in you ;3
ReplyDeleteIt's wasn't too funny, but i can say i enjoyed watching even, tho making me laugh is a feat.
ReplyDeleteRarity's part was my fave
ReplyDelete"So....UNFABOLOUS!!!!!!!!!!"
I thought the second episode has some really funny parts, definitely an improvement. Just hope they come out a bit more often :)
ReplyDeleteFun Fact: FimFlamFilosophy (The guy behind The Mentally Advanced Series) wrote a large part of the script for the 2nd episode before he left to make his series. So the 3rd episode will probably lose any quality that it gained from the 2nd. I guess we'll find out in 3 months.

ReplyDeletePost on Equestria Daily
Everyone starts complaining
WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU GUYS.
ReplyDeleteAlso, they need to get over their writing drama crap. MLP mentally advanced put out 8 episodes in the time it took them to make 1. And that dude can write better by himself then all of them jockeying their own jokes into a mishmashed video.

ReplyDeleteBut they don't have great potential. They don't have any potential, really. There have been plenty of posts outlining what went wrong and its idiotic to ask that EVERYONE has to type out some huge essay pointing out what they didn't like when you've got a perfectly good one here:
@Corey W. Williams
ReplyDeleteWe THRIVE to get better, because FRIENDSHIP IS MAGIC, and we will take our own powers of friendship to be the very best that we can, no matter how much you kick us down!
ReplyDeleteCamaraderie is Supernatural is by far the best, the rest pale in comparison.

ReplyDeleteOpinions, how do they work? (How do you not like Pinkie, though?)
But honestly, I just don't see what's so great about that series. The Elements of Parody part was too cheesy for me. But I do have to give them points for the song parody and the Gurren Lagann reference.
The 2nd episode was clearly better than the last one, although you still need more improvement
ReplyDeleteOne thing I like about Episode 2 is that: I could tolerate this Fluttershy.
