• Forshadowing Take Two!

Cereal isn't a bad dragon, he just made a bad decision.

    So I'm re-posting it.

I don't think ANY cartoon has ever had such an awesome cast of characters.  Hats off to the creators.

    Now onward to season 2!

And craziness, I guess. But no hard feelings here.

Also, don't worry about it Cereal. The only perfect pony around here would be Trixie.

    4. What happened? What did Cereal do?

      ReplyDelete
    5. What happened the first time? I didn't notice anything wrong.

      ReplyDelete
    6. Haha! Just don't mention furries, and you're golden.

And... Actually... I think it might be a tough contest with Gargoyles. You haven't seen character if you haven't seen Xanatos.

(Bet if he was the show's villain, the main cast would be dead in ten seconds flat.)

    7. There wasn't anything wrong with calling it a girls show at first, but there is something wrong with leaving up the awful webcomic post.

      ReplyDelete
    8. @Anonymous
OP was the same image, with text along the lines of "Really, who thinks it's still a girls' show?".

Got a few responses along the lines of "It's an awesome girls' show, what's wrong with that?".

Didn't seem a big deal either way, though the image is awesome.

Cereal implied that Rarity wasn't the best pony, so Seth removed the post and threw him in a room with PsychoPie. No harm done.

      ReplyDelete
    10. I laughed at all the silly hate on the first take. Don't worry, Cereal, we still love you.

      ReplyDelete
    11. At least they all have something in common lol.

      ReplyDelete
    12. >"All the ponies in this town are CRAZY!"

Now, THAT is definitely a very notable foreshadowing. It looks like Twilight knew all along that everypony will lose their minds...including herself...

      ReplyDelete
    13. >Implying cereal's post wasn't unintentionally hilarious

      ReplyDelete
    14. 'not a big deal'

      'silly hate'

Yes, this is exactly the kind of inherent sexism that is plaguing the fandom. OF COURSE *YOU* don't see a problem, you ARE the problem.

Cereal, no one thinks you're a bad dragon. That wasn't at *all* what was being criticized, and by deflecting you're making a very real issue into a personal attack, which it isn't.

Just please be aware, EVERYone be aware, of how you are being casually sexist without even realizing it. And that it is hurtful and just plain RUDE, not only to the female fans but to all fans of the show.

Just think before you write - would you say these things to Lauren? No. No you would not.

    15. Deleting the post is a cowardly way to "fix" it. Apologize, learn from it, and move on. I know a lot of bronies are from 4chan, but they should be a cut above. Love and tolerance, everypony.

      ReplyDelete
    16. @Anonymous >Implying a fan of a show with predominately female characters is sexist

      Oi, no.

      ReplyDelete
    17. So did Cereal actually say anything remotely malicious or is this another instance of people being unable to tell the difference between bigotry and ignorance?

      ReplyDelete
    18. @Anonymous

He posted that picture and the sentence "Still think this is a girl's show?" or something like that.

      ReplyDelete
    19. Uhp, I just realized that probably shouldn't have been repeated, sorry. You can delete my post, if you want.

      ReplyDelete
    20. @Fire.Esper

*laughs* That is a pathetic derailment, and proves my point beautifully. :)

You can be a fan and still be sexist. As is proven daily by hundreds of comments on this very website. You probably don't realize it because it's not a problem for *you*, it's not something YOU have to deal with and recognize.

And yes, I totally agree with the other Anon, it was cowardly to delete, and we really should be above this 4chan style nonsense.

This fandom can be so incredible, the art and music and joy in the show is fantastic and brilliant, but the attitudes by some of the fans are just terrible. That's not the way it should be! I shouldn't have to feel afraid of sharing my thoughts or even just reveal that I'm a woman, because of the dismissive and condescending behaviour of my fellow Bronies. That's just not right. And you should feel that way too. :(

      ReplyDelete
    21. @Oleetar

Oh man, that is so fucking offensive.

I've noticed a few people throwing Lauren's name around... did anyone miss the part where she explicitly stated she WASN'T making a "girl's" show in the traditional sense? That it was a show for everyone?

      ReplyDelete
    22. It's okay to be conscientious about people sending out a bad message, but we shouldn't be perpetuating a cycle of fear wherein people are afraid to say stuff because it could offend someone's sensibilities.

I happen to believe we're all (or at least mostly all) reasonable individuals who don't buy into the notion of misogyny. People say stuff with unintentional interpretations all the time, especially on the internet. To constantly rebuke someone as if it's the end of the world is a bit harsh. So long as the intent was not malicious, can we not forgive and forget?

      ReplyDelete
    23. First episode of season two will foreshadow everything.

      ReplyDelete
    24. No one is saying Cereal was being malicious! And he is not being 'constantly rebuked', this is Not About Cereal. He is a very nice and talented Brony and no one is saying otherwise! SHEEEESH.

      ReplyDelete
    25. I think the main cast of TFA surpases the ponies, to be honest. But that's just me.

I do like both shows, by the way.

      ReplyDelete
    26. Applejack was tired, Rarity was depressed, and Rainbow Dash was scared. Not crazy.

      ReplyDelete
    27. Fluttershy didn't really go crazy either, she just got so frustrated that she just wanted to scream. For real this time

      ReplyDelete
    28. Rainbow does go crazy trying to get Fluttershy to yell.

Rarity was kind of crazy while being depress, not to mention what she does to the diamond dogs and the look on her face before the pillow fight with applejack.

Also Fluttershy screamed in "green isn't your color", but the best night ever is actually just pure crazy from her where she loses all shyness and goes totally nuts, she even had a live squirrel in her mouth!

      ReplyDelete
    29. Rarity's meltdown was tame, actually normal. Twilight had a ragequit and a string snap. Applejack lost her senses. Rainbow Dash became a quivering pile of nerves. And both Pinkie and Fluttershy became stark psycho.

I nominate Rarity the drama queen as the sanest pony.

    30. @Anonymous

I think the misunderstanding then is the way people reacted to what was being said. I know a lot of people, especially those who are passionate about social issues, subscribe these days to this mentality that all forms of "discrimination" must be dealt with an equal amount of force and vitriol. The problem with this is that the appearance of what constitutes as "discrimination" is different for everyone and a lot of people who simply don't know any better get caught in the crossfire. In a few cases the person who spoke out if ignorance is actually spurred to real bigotry because of their experience, and in almost all cases it makes the person attacking them look absolutely crazy to anyone who isn't already on their side of the fence, to the same degree.

I can understand the need to encourage people to reflect on their own character and subconscious biases, and to think before they speak. But I think it's fair to say that goes both ways- even more so if you're taking the moral high ground. You catch more flies with honey than passionate rhetoric, after all. Or something.

But then, I didn't actually see any of this happen myself and I'm just hearing secondhand accounts. I think it's safe to say lesson's have been learned by all. Who's going to write the letter to Celestia?

      ReplyDelete
    31. @Anonymous

No, you used common sense and rationality therefore you're wrong!!124

    33. Didn't Rarity wish that Fluttershy's star would burn out? .... she's not exactly the sanest one, Twilight wins for only losing it for a few seconds at a time...

      ReplyDelete
    34. Umm... I'm a woman, and I didn't find the original comment offensive, but then again I didn't see the discussion that resulted, and I do appreciate Cereal taking steps to avoid sexism and misogyny. I just hope this doesn't lead to the kind of psycho-moderation that destroyed the LiveJournal communities I used to frequent years ago.

      ReplyDelete
    35. @Anonymous That's a pretty normal to thing to feel in the height of jealousy, especially for Rarity, and she later recanted and felt guilty.

      ReplyDelete
    36. @Anonymous
Weather or not it is a big deal or silly hate is a matter of opinion.

There is nothing sexist about calling it a girls show/not a girls show because that is merely an opinion about the show being good despite the fact that most cartoons made specifically for girls are bad.

Also this is kinda irrelevant and I know it wasn't your intention and your trying to prove a point about thinking before you speak but DO NOT assume what I would or would not say to someone.
      you dont know me
you dont know what I would or would not say to Faust or anyone for that matter. Because I mite have a different opinion than you regarding what is an isn't sexist and if I dont feel it is sexist I mite just say it.
Weather I feel it is or isn't sexist makes it sexist or not is a matter of your opinion based on weather or not you agree with my opinion.

      tl:dr opinions! opinions everywhere!!!

    37. -Sees nothing major wrong

      -"lolwut?"

-Is this what the fandom will turn in to? I mean it's been about the details in part, but are we just going to overanalyze every detail out of sheer boredom? I'mma gon' troll /b/, cya in a couple months bronies!

    50. Q: How many politically correct people does it take to screw in a lightbulb?

      A: THAT'S NOT FUNNY!

Not to say that being sexist isn't bad, but roughly 85% of the online MLP fanbase is male. While it may still be, at heart, a "girl's" show, obviously it cannot be simply defined as such based on those demographics. Cereal pointed that out in a funny way, and everybody flipped a shit at him for being insensitive.

Forgive me for perhaps being too blunt, but...stop making such a big deal over this. It's one comment that was meant to be a joke.

      ReplyDelete
    51. Wow, so basically a bunch of people got upset over a perfectly innocent comment. Silly, bronies.

      ReplyDelete
    52. More like a bunch of silly bronies who are too sensitive to take simple, polite "hey, that's kinda offensive, why don't you think about that for a second" criticisms. It's not like anyone called anyone names or cursed them out. It was just pointed out that implying a show that has fun/wacky/crazy/cool characters couldn't possibly be just a girls' show is a sucky thing to do.

Saying something is sexist doesn't equal saying someone is a horrible, awful waste of a human being. Living in a sexist society often results in people being subtly sexist without realizing, and it's sad that having this pointed out to a pony immediately causes these defensive reactions rather than some actual thought about why female fans might react negatively. Friendship might be magic, but intent isn't.

      ReplyDelete
    53. @Anonymous

He was referring to the characters all going insane (or something like it), have you ever seen a "girl's show" where all the characters go insane?
He wasn't saying anything about fun/crazy/cool characters not existing in girl's shows, just that characters going insane (or something like it) is a bit of an oddity.

      ReplyDelete
    54. @Oleetar, saying they all went insane is a bit much. It's a wacky show sometimes, like a lot of other kids' programs out there, and yes, like other girls' shows. It's more awesome, but not necessarily an oddity.

      ReplyDelete
    55. @Fire.Esper
You're obviously not a true bronie then. Can't even tolerate or love furries... how sad.
But it's ok, I can tolerate your intolerance <3

I told you about the madness.

      ReplyDelete
    60. People who raged about this are NOT bronies. This is the same PC bullshit that swept up Penny Arcade with the being raped by dickwolves joke. People taking things out of context and seeking out insult where there is none intended.

Only response Cereal's comment should have garnered should have been a "hell yeah!" from everypony.
