These are so fun it's ridiculous, seriously.
The creator of the desktop ponies applications has written to inform everypony that the app has gotten a massive update- lots of new characters, including a Trixie with fireworks! Go download it and try it out, you won't be disappointed.
Their website is here, and the Ponychan thread is here.
Specifically, the programmer in charge points us to this and this post in the thread.

LOl this is awesome!
ReplyDeleteBut, I would like a vektor/HQ pony not a pixely 8-bit one.
She is everywhere
ReplyDelete50 Trixie's
how is my computer not dead
How to install this
ReplyDeletemy computer feels lonely without lyra walking around the screen now.
ReplyDeleteHow you make this work
ReplyDelete@Pegasi
ReplyDeleteWe get it, LOI is semantically more accurate than LOL in most cases, but LOL has it's own connotations due to it's use that makes it well seasoned and appropriate even when LOI would be moreso appropriate.
only had winzip trial,it ran out of time, cant unzip this now,is sad
ReplyDeletehello can someone help how this work
ReplyDeleteunzip everything into a folder and find the "desktop ponies" application.
ReplyDeleteit should have twilight sparkle as it's icon.
Desktop ponies?
ReplyDelete@Anonymous
ReplyDeleteDownload IZArc. it's like winzip only completely free and better in every way,
@ anon
ReplyDeleteyou just open the .exe file in the download. You dont even have to unzip it if you dont want to.
and before you ask where the .exe file is, open the download, then see that there is another zipped folder in there. open that as well, and the .exe should be in that second one. At least that's how it worked for me.
and now I have Trixie and Zecora wandering my desktop. Trixie keeps showing off, and Zecora just wanders. This amuses me...
*wonders how many it would take to crash his computer*
Time for science. brb.
I have zip but how to install the ponies
ReplyDeleteTHis is so much Win!
ReplyDeleteTwilight is now resident of my desktop.
Foreeever.
the mirror at RBDN has been updated:
ReplyDeletedesktop.rainbowdash.net
Odd that the author would write in about a massive update when the download page very clearly says that the software part of the update is still in development.
ReplyDeletei dont get it.......
ReplyDelete@Anonymous
ReplyDeleteUnzip the files into folder, click on the file pointed out in this link.
bonbon and lyra should be coded to interact with eachother.
ReplyDeleteAAAAAAAGH THERE EVERYWHERE!!! HOW TO I STOP THIS
ReplyDelete@Anonymous
ReplyDeleteright click on one of the ponies, select quit or quit all
http://www.iaza.com/work/110514C/iaza19630117014100.png
ReplyDeleteBecause everybody knows to much pony is best pony. =u=
neither version avalible works, both just come up with end of archive
ReplyDelete3rd try with v18 froze in the download at 91%
@Paul
ReplyDeleteKeep trying it'll happen sooner or later, if you want it badly enough. (a while ago I spent 3 days trying to download something, but I got it)
All that is left is to modify all these characters into a M.U.G.E.N characters and the other update the site mentions.
ReplyDeleteThis is so epic :D
ReplyDeleteWhy hello there tiny Twilight <3
75 Pinkaminas.
ReplyDeleteMy body is ready.
Tempted to paraspite my whole screen....
ReplyDeleteDuuude.. This is amazing.
ReplyDeleteI thought the original was epic, but this...
I'm gonna flood my screen with Vinyl now, a hundred will probably make my screen look trippy.
@Anonymous
ReplyDeleteI just did that(well 75 of them) and discovered something horrible. I can't right click them as soon as I hover over they chirp and block them selves from being right clicked. Curse there paraspites D:
omg how can i turn them off?
ReplyDelete@Anonymous
ReplyDeleteCTRL+ALT+DEL and kill the desktop ponies process is how I do it!
Though I'm pretty sure Trixie is a permanent fixture to my desktop now.
@Anonymous
ReplyDeleteEr acually just right click one and quit apparently!
That got annoying really fast; the defaults are way too obtrusive. I limited it to one Lyra and edited the INI to make her stand still for longer (WAY longer, like, 60-120 seconds).
ReplyDeleteNow I just need to change the GIF files to make her blink every few seconds because it's just goddam creepy that she doesn't.
Now now, I never claimed to be the creator, that honour goes to Anonymous. I've just done some modest contributions in the animation compartment but any attention is good attention I guess. Just spreading the friendship and magic :)
ReplyDeleteThat . . . now I will never be without friends *twitch* My wife is going to be horrified. Why am I so happy about this?
ReplyDeleteAllright, browsing in the internet isn't funny without 127 ponies floating around on your screen :}
ReplyDeleteno cheerilee or colgate makes me sad, but this update is still wonderful!
ReplyDelete@Anonymous
ReplyDeleteSorry about that. I was more concerned with getting the bounce animation done right and never got around to actually animating her default pose.
None for Mac? I has a sad. :(
ReplyDelete@KayCee
ReplyDeleteThere's Java version somewhere in the ponychan thread that should be Mac/Linux compatible.
Oh, well...I did download the "java" one, but all I get is a bunch of folders with pictures? Weak...
ReplyDeleteSo like....how do I actually make them go on my desktop?
ReplyDeleteAll we need now is Big Mac! And an 'Eeyup' quote. :D
ReplyDeleteI can't open the archives, specifically the signed ones (7zip, IZarc). Am i missing something?
ReplyDeleteRunning the Java version until I can solve this. It works, but it's Java...
Sweet mother mercy...
ReplyDeleteI bloody love it!
@Anonymous
ReplyDeleteHeck, don't apologise. The fact that you gave me everything I needed to change it more than makes up for it.
This makes my life complete.
ReplyDeleteApplejack glitched out on me and would NOT stop dropping apples, I had to delete her before my computer destroyed itself...
ReplyDeleteOh my god Pinkie herds the parasprites.
ReplyDelete23 rainbow dashes on screen.
ReplyDeletemultpile rainbooms, all over the place
life complete.
@KayCee open the file "Java Ponies.jar"
ReplyDeleteI love this to the extreme! I only have Princess Luna, Rarity, Dr. Whooves, Fluttershy, Derpy, and of course The Great and Powerful Trixie! I'll probably change them out from time to time
ReplyDeleteA word of advice though, DO NOT put 1000 derpys on your computer. You have been warned.
ReplyDeleteam I the only one who thinks that its looks like applejack is shitting out apples also pinkie is awesome
ReplyDeleteoh my god it's so cute it cause a blood vessel to pop in my nose, the cuteness is keeping me conscious, thank god for ponies.
ReplyDelete@RebeccaRGB
ReplyDeleteI tried that and it doesn't work..it says like "file could not be launched" or something similar... D:
I found a bug in this otherwise awesome program. If the the Everfree Forest zone is set too large (I had it set to (100,90) to try to get them to stay near the taskbar), the ponies spaz out and blur all over the page, and end up all concentrating around my cursor. Also, the context menu was unavailable unless I dragged one of the ponies out of the Everfree zone and right clicked on the pony there.
ReplyDeleteHmm... Creator here, and actually i've never mentioned this to EQ, so that must have been someone else.
ReplyDeleteAnd this was posted a few days before the next major update (pony editor GUI) :( bad timing.
This is, without a doubt, the COOLEST program ever. My desktop is now 20% cooler with ponies and parasprites running around on it. And you can even take control of the ponies if you right click on them. Holding down shift causes them to move faster, and for Rainbow Dash it causes her to do a Sonic Rainboom. Applejack sets down apples as she runs. Just right click and relinquish control when you're done playing.
ReplyDelete@Anonymous It was I, Humle, who hinted at the major updates of Desktop Ponies to Sethisto but I never claimed to be the creator. As I commented earlier that honor goes to you, Anonymous. I just thought with all the updates so far you had deserved some publicity and with Sethisto's favourite pony being Trixie that he'd definitely swallow the bait with Trixie 2.0.
ReplyDeleteWait....so, the website says that it doesn't work on a mac, but there's also a java port. Does the java version work on a mac?
ReplyDeleteWell, when I try to run "Java Ponies.jar" on my mac, it won't work...so, I dunno.
ReplyDelete@humle
ReplyDeleteOoohhh... of course... Trixie! I should have known.
@ anonymous: The java version may work for you, but it seems hit and miss for some people.
@Jorlem
Thanks for pointing that out. The next version will be a little smarter and avoid ponies teleporting all over if they can't find a good spot.
I've had Desktop Ponies since Version 12 or so! I got v.18 last night (Nightmare Moon, YES!) A word of warning though; Desktop Ponies does not play well with iTunes. I was having weird problems with it refusing to download songs I tried to buy and it kept showing a strange error whenever i tried to sync my iPad 'A problem has occurred, please disconnect and reconnect your iPad and try again'. Stopping Desktop Ponies solved the issues. I'm using Windows 7 Ultimate 64-Bit.
ReplyDeleteWHAT DOES THIS THING DO?
ReplyDeleteAh, I love this collab~
ReplyDeleteOnly the filly celestia is left of the ones I did (though I really should update her or something), but I have, like, four custom ones too~
Keep up the good work, everyone involved!
I have Mac OS X 10.6.7 and the Java version works perfectly for me.
ReplyDeleteNow anytime I listen to music on my computer I have to bring up Scratch to play it. I hope that there will be more interactions with the next update.
ReplyDeleteLol, I just noticed that Pinkie Pie would start following Rainbow Dash around if she waves to her. Hilarious. XD
ReplyDeleteIt works on my mac. Pretty cool program! (BonBon, get out of the way, I'm trying to type!)
ReplyDeleteWhat I would really like to see is a list of the ponies that interact with each other. At one point Luna clung to Celestia's side, which was cute, but Lyra and BonBon don't seem interested in each other, even though they call each others names all the time.
TL;DR, it would take too long to test each and every character's interactions with each other, cheat sheet please?
Aw I have a Mac. I wish there was an apple version of this.
ReplyDeleteI'm having WAY too much fun with this!
ReplyDeleteHo-lee-sheet!
ReplyDelete75 parasprites... So cool...
And i don't think there's any lag either :}
What are some things a pony could randomly said? All I could come up with was "For the Luna Republic!" for luna :/
ReplyDeleteI wonder why it won't work for meeee. :( I is sad.
ReplyDeleteI'd like to report a bug - my desktop pony seems to have gained sentience. Yesterday I reprogrammed Lyra's dialogue with some rock lyrics, including "Youth of the Nation". Today I opened "Youth of the Nation" on YouTube and she hopped up and down in delight, walked the width of the screen until she was next to the video and then (even though she's only programmed to hold still for a few seconds at a time) stood watching it for the full four minutes until it was over. Then she wandered off again.
ReplyDeleteIs there a patch for this?
I programmed a behavior for lyra to interact with bon-bon.
ReplyDeletein the pony editor select her and add new action,
speed is 3, probability is 5% min duration is 15, max is 30 (it will try to set it to .8, just let it do it than reset the duration later) Right image is the walk right, left image is walk left, movement is set to diagonal/horizontal, and target is set to bon-bon.
Whenever bon-bon is present, there is a 5% chance of lyra seeking her out and following her closely for a while. I have it set to say "Bon-Bon!" when activated. It is very d'awww worthy.
@Adrian Brony
ReplyDelete*facepalm* Aw man, I am so frigging stupid. I thought you were the author saying you'd added it to the new version. I've been watching Lyra and Bon-Bon walk around my desktop for the last 20 minutes wondering why they weren't interacting.
can someone explain how to put the desktop ponies to be seen without a very complicated example i cant download them please someone help me.
ReplyDeleteRainbow Dash just did THREE sonic rainbooms in a row.
ReplyDeleteI love you Rainbow.
I love these, but it need Scootaloo.
i wana mac version stupid windos gets all the cool stuff :(
ReplyDelete@Anonymous* windows
ReplyDeleteRainbow Dash can only fly down a certain distance on my screen and then she just stops. All of the other ponies can go much lower, but Rainbow Dash can't go very far down...
ReplyDeleteAww No Big Macintosh Pony? sadness.
ReplyDelete@RexNinja Probably because the high part is 20% cooler than the lower part.
ReplyDeleteI want it on my mac :'(
ReplyDelete"Sorry Twilight, Doorbell is ringing, I'm going to have to put you away for a while." *sniffle* "I'll let you back out as soon, I promise!"
ReplyDelete@those having trouble getting it going:
Don't forget you need .NET framework 3.5. Some fangled Microsoft programming framework...
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?familyid=333325fd-ae52-4e35-b531-508d977d32a6&displaylang=en
Oooh, there needs to be a Slendermane! >:D
ReplyDelete@.@
ReplyDeletePARASPRITES EAT PONIES!
THat is, when they reproduce, they'll terminate another pony to make space...
I don't see the application- just art for each pony. Am I doing something wrong? (running on mac)
ReplyDeleteRunning on Mac OS 10.6.7, Java version 1.6.0 and it seems to work fine for me. Unzipped and then double click on "Java Ponies.jar".
ReplyDeleteI dunno if X11 is needed for Mac OS X but I also have that installed (seems that the Linux instruction requires X11 components).
lol if you put the mane 6 with princess celestia, they eventually sing the theme song XD
ReplyDeleteOh my :O
ReplyDeleteDid anybody else play Plants vs Zombies with this running?
ReplyDelete@Adrian Brony It doesn't show that file
ReplyDeleteDEAR SWEET CELESTIA SOMEPONY PLEASE MAKE THEM FOR MAC!!!
ReplyDeleteim watching adventure time with trixie and 2 gummys running around
ReplyDeleteSo, i think it would be cool if Rarity could change your wallpaper if she doesn't like it, or that fluttershy would call animals to dance across your screen- even cooler if Twilight could read through your documents! :D
ReplyDeletewhenever they try to speak it says that there is an error and crashes!
ReplyDeleteAny sujestions. and yes i have windows
i can't get the sounds to work. I've updated DivX and have sounds enabled on options and the sound turned up and all that jazz but I still have no sound. I had the same issue with v. 1.39. Any suggestions to get the sound working again??
ReplyDeleteWhen I get onto the site it redirects to a web hosting site....how do I get to the site and download???
ReplyDeletewhy must the links be 404ed. is it me or the internet
ReplyDeleteI found a way to make Rainbow to go faster, Hit BOTH shifts at the same time and she flys faster.... I just wanna know how to make her do a Sonic Rainboom
ReplyDeleteI also made a Rainbow Blitz and Butterscotch and programmed (Programmed XD robots) them to follow Fluttershy and Rainbow Dash! I also made Angel a twin sister XD
ReplyDeleteUmm... the site may be broken. Says I have to set up a domain for it? Please either explain what I need to do if it's not, or fix it if it is.
