Re: The gasping - don't forget the end of "Bridle Gossip" when the ponies couldn't find Applejack in the herbal bath.
I've noticed the re-used sound too (although the Fluttershy reverse gasp is new to me!). Really... like someone said above, are gasps just too difficult to record or something? Why use the same one for pretty much every scene requiring a gasping/shock reaction?
Now just watch the second season using unique gasps every time! Poni crew know we've caught on now. LOL!
But seriously, what an epic find. The only other voice sample that I know was reused was Rarity's laugh in Sonic Rainboom, which was originally in the pilot ep when Rarity saw Twilight's mane's all messy. I think I may know more, but I can't remember at the moment...
I don't see why a few people are harping on the studio for reusing voice clips on youtube. Every studio reuses a voice clip at some point. Yeah it would be great to get a new scream each time. But the reuse of clips saves time and money and remixing them into different is pretty resourceful.
Reusing voice clips is simply necessary at times. The scripts are written and recorded weeks, months, or even years before episodes are boarded and animated. You may find that you need a very short reaction for a character and don't have the time or resources to schedule a recording session for the actor to say one simple grunt.
Personally, I find it pretty funny when appropriate (Ed, Edd 'n' Eddy did it nearly every episode after season 1).
Let me ask you something for those that are freaking out. When you laugh, do you have a different laugh EVERY time? No, I didn't think so.
And the reason why they're reusing the clip in other instances is so that they can work on more IMPORTANT aspects of the cartoon, maybe animation or storyboard to make them better? Making new sound profiles would just take up time and money.
I've noticed all kinds of sound effect re-use throughout the show, including all of those in the video (and in the bathtab in Bridle Gossip, too), but I never realised it was reversed for some reason!
I really enjoy finding new instances of re-use, it's fun!

Golden Age of Video parody was excellent.
ReplyDeleteThat gasp is now known as the Wilhelm Gasp.
ReplyDeleteFluttershy's cheer....
ReplyDeleteI can't believe anyone would ever notice that! Someone obviously has quite the talented ear!

2nd video: Having to do that kind of gasp several times would be like taking a cheese grater to your vocal chords, so I'm not really surprised.
