ReplyDeleteDAAWWWW
Great story otherwise
No more Scootabuse! More Scootalove! No more Scootabuse! More Scootalove!
ReplyDeleteWonderfully cute story. I don't usually do it, but I D'AWWWWWWW'd at this one a lot. Definatly a story that is worth while!
You can never have too much Scootalove.
ReplyDelete~Scratch
So much goodness for the weekend.
ReplyDeleteI approve of Scootalove. I NEVER liked Scootabuse.
ReplyDeletescoot abuse is funny , if it is not ... you know ... sexual
ReplyDeletebut this was adorable , great story all in all
The big sis/little sis RD and Scoot have going on is awesome. Great story
ReplyDeleteI dig the aerobatic terminology and the whole vibe of Responsible Flight Instructor Rainbow Dash. Good show, Sagebrush.
ReplyDeleteWHOA. Full Circle!
ReplyDeletegreat, heartwarming fic.
YAY!!! i luv happy ponys!!! =D

ReplyDelete~That's the way to go, huhum huhum~ (Insert Music)

ReplyDeleteBoot To The Head, for you ! ...with Onions!
what is this scootabuse nonsense anyway? Does everyone hate Scootaloo so much that they make drawings or stories of her being injured or something? I thought this community was about love and toleration. I am somewhat disappointed that this strange idea even came about.
ReplyDeleteI love the whole full circle feel this story has going on. It's also really detailed, beautifully written with only a few words out of place.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I wouldn't be surprised if Scootaloo got her cutie mark by racing like Rainbow Dash and did a Sonic Sunset. Then again, her established cutie mark from the old toys doesn't look like she will.
@Anonymous
ReplyDeleteLauren said on deviantart that Dash wouldn't make for a very good big sister. This makes a lot of sense, given her highly competitive nature and occasional inability to read/notice the emotions of others.
A bunch of people then decided that since Dash would be a bad sister, she would clearly be verbally and physically abusive of Scoots.
It makes no sense at all. It's got as little rationality behind it as all the times people kept insisting that Scootaloo was a guy. I think we just have some folks who think the best content comes from inverting a few relevant character traits and boiling everything down to a simple stereotype or something.
...And with that out of the way, this was a pretty good story. Like Chinlamp said, nice circle of life thing it's got going on.
+10 Heartwarming
ReplyDeleteI approve of this Story
That was exceptionally sweet. Also awesome.
ReplyDeleteConfound these ponies! I haven't read fanfic since the nineties!
I like it. And to be honest, I do feel that Rainbow was still in character. There is a big difference between having a little sister and having to be around them at home all the time and just helping out a little kid. Rainbow Dash might not have the kind of personality to be a big sister but she could still be a good role model.
ReplyDeleteLovely story and I dig the ending.

ReplyDeleteThank you for the heads up!
Brilliant piece. Emotions were conveyed well and the story didn't seem to get bogged down. I love the ending especially how everything went full circle! =D
ReplyDelete5 Stars!
@Sagebrush
ReplyDeleteI removed that post with the intent to edit in something else, but well...you already replied so...heh. I guess I don't need to.
Just wanted to say...I LOVE THIS STORY. It's now one of my personal favorites on Equestria Daily. You rock man. :)
Rainbow Dash- Living the Dream, becoming the starter of Legacy.
ReplyDeleteScootaloo- Becoming the Protoge that Rainbow Dash knows she can be, and eventually becoming the next bearer of that legacy.
Emerald Filly- Will find life immensely interesting from now on.
No matter how good Scootalove is, Scootabuse just invokes so much more sympathy to Scoot, sorry.
ReplyDeleteLove it - it was kind of a soppy story for a second or two, but then the Continuity part make for it, seeing Scootaloo in her future and when she take her very own student, making a chain of ULTIMATE HAPPINESS AND LOVE, Fokk Yeah.
ReplyDeleteScootabuse is so rediculous I can't even get mad about it. This was great Scootalove. Anybody else here the Top Gun Anthem during the competition?
ReplyDelete-manly -tears-
ReplyDeleteThat...was beautiful.
Celestia bless you, brony.
I d'awwwed, it was awesome. Also I like the idea of each sonic rainboom being personalized to the pegasus performing it.
ReplyDeleteWe need more good Scootalove like this on ED!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for this. I read this right before bed, and I went to sleep much faster than usual. I then dreamt that I was being mentored by Rainbow Dash, and I used the same techniques mentioned in this story. I wasn't a great flier, but I could get to the tops of the clouds and that was enough for me.
ReplyDeleteWhen I woke up, it was the most fantastic feeling in the world. Thank you for writing this story, I'm going to read it every night before bed in the hopes of experiencing that dream again.
as cute as it was, something nags me
ReplyDeletecant these fanfic writers think of something different than a rainboom?
i'm okay with the scootaboom because its different, but it loses effect if all the other fanfic writers use rainbooms.
/rage
Am I the only one that didn't like the ending?
ReplyDeleteDon't get me wrong, I liked the story as a whole. I just don't like these huge time jumps. We established a relationship (here it is RD tutoring Scoot) and suddenly we're some years in the future and expected to assume what happened during that time. It's just a little personal dislike I have, nothing too big, but these jumps always make me feel like I missed something.
Aside from that, I liked the story. And I can understand that most of you like it especially because of the ending.
That was INCREDIBLE! What a great story! Its the kind of moving narrative you'd expect from my little pony. The continuation in the cycle was great! One of the best fanfics I've read so far. Go Rainbow Dash and go Scootaloo!!!
ReplyDeleteI can't express how ecstatic I am that so many of y'all enjoyed this story! I was hoping to spread about some happiness, and I'm glad to know I managed.
ReplyDelete@Mimiaru
That's definitely a valid criticism. I suppose that I had this vivid image in my mind of Scootaloo seizing the sky in some way, dyeing it in her colors, and I needed a way to do that.
Coupling that goal with her admiration for Rainbow Dash, I guess I felt breaking the sound barrier was too irresistible a method of doing so =).
Speaking as someone who's been dabbling in ponyfic(haven't posted anything yet), I like the idea that a highly skilled pegasus can break the sound barrier relatively easily. Relatively being the operative word, of course, it takes a hell of a lot of skill.
ReplyDeleteThe Sonic Rainboom, in my head/personal canon, is an old pony's tale not because breaking the sound barrier is incredibly rare, but because of unique properties of the Rainboom in particular that make it more powerful, and nigh-impossible.(In some of the stuff I've been dabbling with, this is accomplished by making 'normal' barrier-breakings have some kinda 'trick' to getting through the barrier. The Rainboom lacks these, and is just raw SPEED and force)
But that's beside the topic. I would just like to say that this story is fantastic, and has a truly awesome ending.
I really liked this story. The rainboom thing, yeah, maybe a little cliched at this point and I would like to see that stay a unique trick of Dash's (I have a sneaking suspicion that it's related to her being the holder of an Element and therefore having a unique connection to the rainbow of light); if it were me, I would have prbably invented some other trick to be Scoot's specialty move, but whatever. It worked.
ReplyDeleteThat said, it does make me wonder why scoot's parents weren't teaching her to fly. There is a precedent in Fluttershy, who apparently could barely fly before flight school, but I always wondered if Scootaloo had a problem with her wings that stopped her from flying normally. Like maybe a bone spur or joint defomation that makes it painful to rotate the wing for flight but doesn't bother her for simple pushing.
Oh, um. Sory, didn't mean to hijack your comment box there. Great story, would read again.
Heck of a story. And surprisingly non-sappy.
ReplyDelete@Anonymous
ReplyDeleteI could kinda see some degree of verbal 'abuse'. We know Rainbow Dash is competitive and a trash-talker, and if you watch the start of Griffon the Brushoff, she seems to not know where to draw the line. I could definitely see her hurting Scoot (or anypony, really) while she thinks she's being playful.
When she figured it out she'd feel terrible though.
I was surprised that Scootaloo didn't wake up at the end, there. Huh.
ReplyDeleteCelestia can do that trick, too, but it's less rainboom and more solar flare, and leaves the area somewhat radioactive for a few generations.
@Escher
ReplyDeleteI'd kinda figured maybe she had shortish wings, which would give her less lift but make her a better stunt flyer. Kinda like a Fokker Dr.I triplane -- it was on the unstable side, which made it tough to control, but obscenely maneuverable.
Shoot me for saying this, but the Scootalove seemed...a bit overdone here, frankly. I mean, let's face it: the reason Scootabuse came about in the first place is because someone saw Lauren Faust say that Dash probably wouldn't make a very good sister and took it way too far. So yes, Scootabuse is a ridiculous misinterpretation, but that original statement still stands as something that's as close to fact as we'll ever get around here. Dash would probably be happy to help Scootaloo out, but if she can be impatient with Fluttershy of all ponies, she could sure as hell be driven a bit crazy by Scootaloo. Her dialogue could also use a bit of work, though only because I thought you overdid the cockiness just slightly in my opinion, and that's such a fine line to try to hit that I'm not even sure I can do it justice. So that's not too big of an issue.
ReplyDeleteAside from all that, though, the story was cute and the ending really brought things around nicely. Good enough for a 4-star.
Wasd999 on Deviantart is making a comic of this.
ReplyDeleteCheck his journal guys!
Definitely one of my favorite fics. The full circle thing was a great touch, and I loved your portrayal of "Rainbow Dash, Flight Instructor." The idea that she's not just coasting on raw talent, but actually has a very good understanding of aerodynamics and flight physics, is something that appeals to me a lot. I also really love it when Dash shows a more responsible side.
ReplyDeleteI was so pleasantly surprised by this, it was a sweet little story about scootaloo and rainbow dash.
ReplyDeleteBronies? Y U NO GIVE 5 STARS TO THIS AWESOME FIC?
ReplyDeleteOr rather, why doesn't everyone.
ReplyDeleteI can't possibly gve this lower than a five. It's Scootacute!
ReplyDeleteWhy isn't this tagged to sagebrush?
ReplyDeleteHmm, it's not...? It's not! SETH!
ReplyDeleteThat was an adorable story, and the ending was quite fitting with history repeating. The future tournament probably wasn't necessary, although it was interesting.
ReplyDeleteWhats with the impossible to read sentences and words?
ReplyDeleteIt's kinda sad. This story is really quite excellent and deserves all the praise in the world, but now some guy has basically stolen the last fifth of it beat for beat and has gotten more readers way faster. :(
ReplyDeleteDawww, that really very enjoyable!
ReplyDeleteThat was fantastic! It was full of "D'AWWWW" and the ending was sweet.
ReplyDeleteKind of disappointed that Scoots didn't have her own signature move, but a sonic rainboom is always impressive.
Loved it! :D
ReplyDeleteA great fanfic, nice to see a different kind of story and of course, some Rainbow Dash :)
