I liked this. Short enough to keep the reader's interest and light enough on the details to leave them wondering. Nice work!
ReplyDeletewell, now I'm sad
ReplyDeletelol I keeps erasin' yer Goggles drawins
ReplyDeleteMan, that was awesome and touching.
ReplyDeleteOne thing.
Anyone else of you try to find a "substitute character" for a character that isn't described.
For me, the protagonist was merely a shadowy figure, until it was revieled that he had infections and sickness. That made me think of Old Snake and then the character was suddenly Old Snake in a trenchcoat in my mind.
Equestria really does seem like heaven, now that I think about it.
ReplyDeleteI liked this story, but I have to admit, I guessed the ending pretty much as soon as I started reading it.
ReplyDeleteStill a decent, sad little story though.
Great story, and great Dark Towers reference.
ReplyDeleteAnd with my near-crippling need for a happy ending, I will of course believe that he truly met the ponies and joined them.
Despite authorial intent, I think the ending is ambiguous - and that's just the way it should be. Wonderful, wonderful work.

ReplyDeleteAwesome story, loved the Dark Tower reference about the world "Moving On"
ReplyDeleteat first I was like :(
ReplyDeletebut then I was like :,D
but then I was like D,:
@ Yamathan - The Ambiguous ending was entirely intentional actually. I WANTED the reader to be able to draw their own conclusions of what actually happened.
ReplyDelete@Putuk - That's funny actually. I tried intentionally to use a contrast, detailing the ponies and their world, but intentionally leaving him "unseen" so he could be anyone...
@ Everyone else - I'm glad you enjoyed this one. My previous attempt didn't get nearly the same level of response. :)
And I'm glad some folks got the "Dark Tower" reference. ;)
I was eating an apple as I read this story.
ReplyDeleteThis was... wow. Short, but... wow.
Loved it :)
ReplyDeleteThank you. I'm glad this one is going over so well. :)
ReplyDeleteWow... This is amazing. I really liked the beginning, it sorta had a zombie apocalypses feel to it kindda, Like I just imagined a dusty, dirty, black and white, dying world. Though the ending confused the fuck outta me, I'm guessing that his spirit moved on to Equestria while his body was left in reality?
ReplyDeleteThis is certainly a mysterious piece of work. I really like it!
Well the ending was supposed to be a bit ambiguous so the readers could make their own conclusions about what just happened. Was it a fever induce hallucination? Did his soul pass over and he was looking at some sort of "heaven"? Did it actually happen, but the process caused his body to be left behind as a shell? Something else I can't think of right now? The possibilities are wide open, and intentionally so. :)
ReplyDelete"go then...There are other worlds then these." Maybe like someone else hes both dead and alive. Those familiar with The Dark Tower series will know what i mean.
ReplyDeleteThis Really has lots of potential to become a full fledged series! A human in equestria story! About a man Who comes from a forsaken land! (No transformations into pony. Thats lame) I imagine him at first contact! Clothes torn to bits. A Small Rusty knife or blade of some kind in his Hand, A slender physique showing obvious illness and starvation! ohh!!! that gets me giddy. I might just write it myself!
ReplyDeleteI always interpreted it as he got poisoned by the apple.
