ReplyDeleteWar in Equestria isn't my usual cup of tea, even if it is a war against evil magic or darkness, but this is a good read that doesn't lay on the sadness in heaps.
ReplyDeleteThe story is a good read, the plot is fairly solid, and there were some scenes in the tale that brought some manly tears from me (I've come to realise that I root for Derpy/Ditzy more than I originally thought). My only complaint is that the how or why is not explained in this ancient evil suddenly returning, nor is it explained why an even older entity known as Gloom would be connected heavily to Twilight, whose life to date is a mere flash in a pan compared to Gloom's immortality.
Good story nevertheless, but to somepony like me, who doesn't enjoy War stories or anything that is usually found in such stories (lots of death, violence, etc) taking place in Equestria, it's not something I feel is all that amazing. And the missing explanations in the plot really glare at me as a result.

Just finished reading it and wow, that was good.
ReplyDeleteBut it needs more! It felt like it was going to be a long epic, but I suppose it didn't start going on and on and on.
Also, epilogue SCREAMS sequal, must happen.
Also also, disappointed their was no actual battle, I'm still waiting for a story that fully uses all the ponies abilities. How awesome would a telekenisis fueled battle be?
Hmmm...maybe I should fill the niche?
Well, that was enjoyable. Seemed a bit rushed at times, could have been stretched out some, but the character work was great. And like FasterThenRainbows above me, the epilogue SCREAMS sequel!

ReplyDeleteK WTF I thought the first 2 where pretty good, but the 3rd holy shit that was a pretty great ending! The ending also begs for a sequel. I am impressed.

Needs more adjectives - describe the situations, environs, smells, tastes, sounds.
Name the pony speaking before what they say if you can: like 'Pinkie Pie barged into the room, announcing her presence with a happy "Hi!"' rather than '"Hi!" said Pinky Pie, announcing her presence happily as she barged into the room.'
Be explicit about which pony is which as often as you can - I have trouble keeping track of several different ponies based just on their descriptions.
I'd give this piece an A-. =3

It had been so long that I barely remembered anything of that story, or of what it was when it only had 3 Chapters.
ReplyDeleteFrankly, at first I thought : ''Why a 4th chapter ? This story was 'ok' without another one. It already had something that seemed like an Ending ?''.
Especially after reading the 'warning' : >graphic violence, alcohol abuse<.
But I gave that Chapter 4 a chance, and did what I do always... Reading, thinking, wondering... But as I read, the last 2 went a bit different than usual.
This 4th part ended being far deeper, in meaning, or in everything, compared to what little I remembered of the other previous 3 parts.
The 'Evil Entity' ended being ''up to the task'', of her character, even inside her new mortal form. Well thought, absolutely ''being'' how something evil and defeated would be. Yet, keeping some ''surprise feelings'', which would be unfolded gradually, but not TOO slowly.
The slight and ''odd'' sense of mystery that floated about those 'feelings', not directly clear at first, which were revealed *through* the Main Cast characters in a interesting way...
...starting to lose my thoughts a bit, so kinda be more direct...
The 'Evil Being' being what 'It' is, then... getting a taste of 'life', and loving it...
Immortal getting caught and trap as a mortal, cursing it and yet choosing to embrace it, and everything coming with it...
-It was a great, great thing in this Part.
...and those last few sentences, in the end...
They... had a lot of meaning, yes.
I thought of copy/pasting them here, but, no...
I think it's better, if people see them, within the moment.
They are so much more, when seen in their intended context.
It's... nice.
