• Poll Results: Does the Website Move too Quickly?

I try to spread posts out by at least 1 hour, but I sometimes don't really have a choice.  Hopefully you guys are bothering with page 2, because that stuff is only a day old usually! I want everything to get a chance at the limelight.

I'm glad most of you don't mind though.  I visit a lot of gaming blogs (Kotaku, Joystiq, Massively), so I know how a blog is technically supposed to run, but with the addition of fanfiction here, it makes things move a lot quicker than a normal blog.

The pre-readers have helped a ton though.  You probably have seen a decrease in story uploads lately overall.  I've sent countless people to ponychan for editing that I wouldn't have caught with my skimming.  Whoever was planning that writers training ground thing over there a while back really should re-build it!

    1. I don't think it would be a good idea to spread it out. People do know there is a second page.

... Second page?... You mean all those old posts don't drop into a black hole and oblivion?

Well now, that's some fancy tech right there.

    3. At first, I found the blog was updating too fast, I admit, but it didn't take long for me to get used to it. In fact, sometimes I get impatient when it hasn't update for half an hour! What have you done to me, Sethisto?!

      ReplyDelete
    4. I too check back every 5 minutes knowing there's only an update every hour or so.

    5. This blog is my homepage, so I enjoy checking back here every hour or so to see what's new.

    6. I'm one of those people that check this blog way too often so if you could do nothing but post constantly that would be great. Get on that.

    7. I love the update rate....although I may get more work done if it wasn't.

The percentages add up to 99% !?!....wat.

    8. Don't you dare slow down on account of others, Seth! I love how much this blog updates; my pony addiction demands no less!

    9. Wow it really does add up to 99%. FAIL.

    10. I have no problems keeping up, each time I'm here I just skim through all the post that I haven't seen until I find one that I have seen before. Then I'm sure I won't miss a thing. Simple ^^

Rounding error. First three percentages are rounded down properly, last one is rounded down incorrectly (should be rounded up).

I take it that 1.881919... percent of respondents found the site updates too slow.

    12. My RSS feed of ED is currently at 200+ unread entries, and my fanfic backlog is at about 50.

I would estimate you're about five times more prolific than Kotaku, and that's a professionally-run website with multiple authors.

      Good god.

Not that I'm complaining. No such thing as too much poni... Is that how kids these days say it?.. Crooked?.. Tubular?..

    13. i voted other because i'm fine with the site's update frequency, i just think you don't need to make seperate posts for each and every story. also, mashups etc. it really dilutes the site.

just like you have drawfriend posts you could make daily writefriend and mediafriend posts with compilation of those entrys.

and maybe make seperate posts for stuff that is really impressive or somehow significant to pony fandom (i.e. pony mmos, interviews, outside world recognising bronies)

      just my 2 cents

    14. I voted other. I think anything mildly pony related should be posted, and the good shall be rated well, the bad rated poorly, and for those only interested in the good things and not mediocre things, they should be able to filter all the poorly rated articles out.

      That'd be fine by me.

    15. This post gave me an idea: what if blog pages had marker-posts to signify the end of each day/week so it would be easier to distinguish new stuff from old stuff for those of us who visit less often. Then, they could be removed when the posts are archived.

    16. I also voted "other". I'm really here mostly for the drawfriends compilations, the occasional comic and to see if there are any big pony news I should know about. Those come when they come, so I'm mostly pretty unaffected by how fast the site updates otherwise.

    17. I cheated by subscribing to the RSS feed.

Now I don't NEED to worry about the pace. :D

    18. I voted secound thingy.
I'm quite happy it updates so quickly!
      :D

    19. Just watch how fast the page view counter climbs. (It's kind of hypnotizing!) There's a huge demand for this, and it is being filled admirably and then some.

I know nothing about how blogs are set up, so I suggest the following in complete ignorance, and if I'm talking like a foal, please let me know. Maybe if there was some way for people to sign in and filter which categories that they would like to see on their views of the site (news/ fanfic/ art/ etc.), those people who find the pace to be a bit too fast can have an easier time seeing only the stuff that they want? But then, I'd also argue that's what the lists on the right side of the page are for, so, yeah.

      Keep up the awesome work!

    20. seriously tho, sethisto, how do you do it?

If the average person could devote this much free time to anything, we could have a space elevator, mines on asteroids, and colonies on the moon. And we would probably have spaceships instead of cars. And we would be colonizing other star systems. And we would have already accepted the proposal that dark matter and dark energy are actually forces, like gravity and electromagnetism. And then we would find a unified theory. But human suffering would still exist- we're stuck with that till the end of time.

And now this analogy has stretched too far.

I think my point is still clear though... maybe?

      ReplyDelete
    21. @Anonymous Filtering is definitely possible with RSS. Not sure if Blogger supports it though.

      ReplyDelete
    22. I'm more of the opinion that this fandom updates too quickly...for me, anyway. It'd be the absolute best thing ever - if I were still, say, 16, with vast quantities of free time on my plate. But agh, 16 was a decade ago for me. I'm gettin' too old an' busy for the speed at which this fandom churns out quality work! @.@

But I still do love it so, and this site holds it all together (somehow). Continued kudos, Sethy. ~_^

    23. i just come here from the rss feed. i also only check blog updates, comics, some of the videos, and drawfriend posts.

      ReplyDelete
    24. This blog updates fast but I love it! I go on the computer a lot, so I like clicking onto this blog so often and seeing new things. :3 I would be sad if we didn't get as many updates. I think having a lot to updates shows that this fandom is filled with lots of things! It's a positive! When there are less things to post then we'll know there are less pony fans.

      ReplyDelete
    25. Just needs to be 20% slower.

      ReplyDelete
    26. I chose other. Needs blindingly fast updates

      ReplyDelete
    27. I like the rate at which this site updates, however, I do think that after the season ends we're going to have to "ration" out all this awsome pony content. All of us are addicted and I'm worried that there will be a drought in the coming months following the end of this season. I'd say 3 posts a day durring the break (unless I'm wrong of course)

      ReplyDelete
    28. I voted other because I want more updates :3

      ReplyDelete
    29. Voted other here, as well. I love the frequent updates. My free time is spent running around looking at things online, but I'm terrible at finding new stuff to look at. As such, I generally just jump between bookmarks. The fact that new stuff is added here so often means that there's actually something to do when the rest of my bookmarked sites haven't added anything new.

    30. I use Google Reader. New posts are bolded, and I can fall behind for a week (like I did when I had company) and still catch up. So bring on the content!

      ReplyDelete
    31. I'll have to admit, the pace kinda leaves me dazed. But with the magic of RSS, I can sort of sort everything into Read, Unread, Will Read Later, and Not Interested Anyway, and then catch up on the reading whenever I get the time. So I'm not too bothered by it.

      ReplyDelete
    32. I refresh this site every few minutes. Must. Have. More. Now.

      ReplyDelete
    33. I'd say it's a veritable flood of pony flowing through this place - a minor annoyance asofar that there's too much good stuff to read, which takes up far too much of my time trying to keep up with it all, lest I fall behind and get buried under all the fics!

I almost dread to think how much time I'll spend here as this site continues to grow...
