I saw the header... And I squealed. I'm a 19 year old hetero male and I fucking squealed like a little girl! So adorably cute. I'm going to explode. Twice.
I posted the bunny suit one on my facebook account today. I hope that's okay. I was suffering from overexposure to extreme cuteness and forgot to ask permission.
@El Maya Actually the whole bunny and egg thing is a relict from old pagan traditions. Eggs and the bunnies are symbols for fertility and the spring. Later the tradition went on and mixed up with the Christian holiday to what we now know. Let's celebrate a zombie carpenter and spring with eggs, bunnies, chocolate and presents and ***! ;)
Seriously, though, that banner with Fluttershy dressed as a bunny is beyond adorable. I mean, Fluttershy was cute before but, geez, she's looking like she's BEGGIN' to be hugged!
On the tradition part - here in Hungary Easter kept its "fertility" feeling. In the country men go and visit the girls of the village, tell them funny perky poems and water them. Literally. We grab a bucket of water and SPLASH. Check youtube if you don't believe me :P At some places you can even pay the firefighters to come out and do it XD In return the girls give painted eggs, sweets, alcohol. In the city it's more "civilized" (obviously less fun), we visit girls, spray some perfume on them, they usualy give choclate eggs and money. And booze ofc.
♪ Betcha can't guess what I'm gonna say. (It rhymes with hey.) (It isn't pay.) Now just gotta take that P and put it all away. Saying this word is such a joy it can make everything okay. If you guessed I'd say "yay" then, hey! You're on your way! ♫
@El Maya See, sometimes religions like to use something call "syncretism". It means they take elements of the existing religion in an area and make it part of the new religion.
It's a hard sell to tell the locals that they can't have their big party at this time of year. It's a lot easier to just say "Hey, instead of worshiping Ishtar, you should be celebrating Christ's death and resurrection!"
But bits and pieces of the old faith tend to stick around when you do that, so you wind up with eggs and bunnies, which are symbols of fertility and the goddess Ishtar -- whose name is also the source of the words 'Easter' and 'estrus' -- stuck to the christian holiday.
In the same way you have Halloween and all the related Samhain/coming of darkness stuff stuck to All Hallow's Day, which is a celebration of the saints and those who died in the church.

ReplyDeleteOh Maishida, you only been a brony for two days and already got your art shown at Equestria Daily twice.
ReplyDeleteWow! that was fast, and cute! (Dam it!)
ReplyDeleteSorry for bothering you guys, but someone could finally explain me the reason of bunnies and chocolate eggs in easter? I´m from México and we have the more zombie-like version of Jesus rising from his tomb and scaring the shit out of his fellas.
Also, I watched Hop and it neihter helped me.
Anyway, Happy Easter!!!
HAPPY EASTER! Unless your atheists, in that case have a nice day :)
ReplyDeleteI was expecting some Fluttershy, but I'm pretty sure that's a tree up there.
ReplyDelete@El Maya
ReplyDeleteI think it's a German tradition or something. It doesn't really make sense to any of us in America either, but hey, free candy!
*inhales deeply*
ReplyDeleteYay.
Jesus died violently so Fluttershy could dress up as a bunny?

ReplyDeleteIt's not my fault, Princess Celestia - I didn't mean to accidentally worship someone else than you!
ReplyDeleteIt's Bunnyshy's fault. I was not prepared.
She's an evil enchantress and she did evil dances because I looked her in the eye, she put me in trances.
Please don't banish me and then throw me in a dungeon in the place that you'll banish me to!
