This is currently a work in progress by Bigponymac Over on Deviant Art. So far it's shaping up quite nicely!
He is currently prepping it for firing on Monday after a few more tweaks, followed by paint. I can't wait to see it finished! I'll update this post with it when it's done with a bump.
You can find some step-by step as well as the concept sketch after the page break!

That must have been a pain to get the hair right! You pulled it off quite nicely, though, and did an awesome job! I have worked with clay a few times in my life, but I know I couldn't pull this off nearly as well as you did! Also, the room looks vaguely similar to one of the classes I was in for clay making. But, that's probably just because most art workshops look a lot alike.
ReplyDeletewow can't wait to see what that would look like colored. Very cool indeed.
ReplyDeleteit's nice to know their are people out their who can actually work with and make beautiful art. this is simply beyond amazing with the amount of effort put into it. if i had your skill i too would make something half as awesome as this. keep up the great work
ReplyDeletethis really helps me imagine how they would look like in real life.

It's really nice to see the show inspire such creativity beyond the more common artwork and writings. I can't wait to see this finished. He's done a great job so far.
ReplyDeleteOh, man; Bigponymac seemed stoked when he heard about this being on ED! He's a diligent worker, that one, and a pretty kickass guy, too.
ReplyDeleteWill probably follow him more closely on Rainbow Dash Network and on Deviantart to get DA LATEST SCEUP, but it's nice to know he's got recognition! :D
Nightmare fuel....
ReplyDeleteThat must have been some hard stuff to get right! I'm absolutely amazed!

Very nicely done! I don't get to see a lot of sculpting work so I'm excited to see what this will look like when it is finished.
ReplyDeleteHis sculpture is coming along so well! I know he's excited to see it all finished. I've loved watching it as it develops! :)
ReplyDeleteSeems like it's going to be awesome.
ReplyDeleteum... hmmm.. good luck with it!
ReplyDeleteThis is a great start to a completely epic example of Flutter-Coolness!
ReplyDeleteWho's awesome? You're awesome.
ReplyDeleteWho's Awesome? You're aw-oh, son of a bitch...
ReplyDelete@Anonymous Actually the hair wasn't all that bad. I just rolled out some coils, attached them, and let gravity do the rest.
ReplyDeleteThanks!
Hope it doesn't explode in the kiln. I have heard of too many projects being destroyed in the first firing due to air in the clay.
ReplyDeleteHope that doesn't happen and I can't wait to see it with the glaze on it.
@Anonymous
ReplyDeleteThat's why I'm taking every precaution in making sure that doesn't happen. The biggest thing I've got to do to it tomorrow is poke a ton of holes in the hair and maybe do the same to the bird. Everything else has been hollowed out.
I wish I could glaze it but I'm not going to have enough time, so instead it will be painted.
And from the tools in the background, it's somewhere around "life-size".
ReplyDeleteMakes you wonder how the timid little Pegasus would react if she was presented with it -- a sculpture of her.
