Glad to see that these have their own posts. While controversial because of blantant self-insertion, the original was important because it at least offered an interesting idea, one that others have taken and ran with, with better results, especially in stories like Pride, Sidelines, and Last Man Standing.
And I have no doubt that other good stories based on the same idea, whether "in fanon" or just loosely, will follow.
I read the first few parts of Fragments of Regret, and I was really liking it, but then . . . The motorcycle . . . And everything else just went to fanfiction hell from there.
The Last Man Standing was fantastic, however I saw the ending coming a mile away. It was probably a blessing considering I had the perfect song for it: Flaming Lips-Feeling Yourself Disintegrate. I played it during that last section of the story and I felt tears start to well up in my eyes. Bravo Windchaser, that was one for the ages!
Whoa, wait a sec. Okay I know I'm the author and am probably biased, but just how did he become a god with no weaknesses?
I mean he get's knocked backward into fire, which nearly destroys his back. He has to take several minutes to heal, which would have been his downfall had he not gotten help right then.
None of the attacks anyone uses (except Twilight's) seem to even phase the creature. Resulting in them having to use all the energy they have to kill the thing. Which causes him to FAINT immediately after.
Also I admit I probably didn't make it as clear as I had meant to. But only Twilight's attacks seemed to have any real effect. Which is why they had to try that last attack in the first place.
I perfectly understand the story went in a direction people didn't want to see there. I admit it was a mistake to write it like that. But I just don't get these comments of him being invincible. He was clearly not.
Least I can say I've learned from this. I do have another story I'm planning to write that follows along the lines of chapter 1-8, with no plans for something like what happened with chapter 9 to take place at all. Hopefully it'll turn out to be a better story.
Dude, no offense, but the "Dante" scene totally put me off. Seriously, you can't even think about comparing someone to Dante and not expect people to jump down your throat screaming Gary Stu.
I'm glad you all enjoyed my first fanfic so much! I put a lot of effort into that last scene and I suppose it worked out how I wanted it to! Epilogue is currently being worked on, and should be done by the end of the weekend.
Your story ended so perfectly, I'm torn between wanting to see more and closing the book on that final sentence. I just don't see how you can top that(I mean that is the nicest way possible)!!!
Aw, see, now I just finished Last Man Standing. THAT is how the last member of the human race goes. Take notes, future nuclear armageddon survivors; Isaac just showed you whiners how it's f**king done.
Last Man Standing ended so fantastically, I don't know if I want to see a sequel... but either way, you did an amazing job. I was thinking of writing a story for this but now I just don't know if I can top it. Congratulations.
This is my plan. Let the ponies have Earth. All the smart people move to Mars. We terriform it and the rest of the solar system and then move out in to the galaxy. That's a much cooler future than living in Candy Land.
Here's a working link for Change of Life part 3: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1jLwJahzgJVLnd5vneuJvE3pBdY4CvkpqzGRhLEzA9Gw/edit?hl=en&authkey=COWmkJwF#
Just finished reading Last Man Standing. The ending... manly tears were shed. I've been thinking of writing my own fic relating to TCB, but after seeing what others have written (this, Sidelines, Midnight, to name a few) I'm discouraged. Might go through with the idea though.
Oh I know Dante is basically the biggest Gary Stu out there. But I had hoped people could look past that and see James only mimicked the powers, he didn't BECOME Dante. If you stabbed him with a sword. He ain't getting up from it.
Still the way I went about it obviously didn't work. Despite it being my favorite chapter, I seem to have messed the story up by doing it. Live and learn I suppose.
I do find it a bit funny that all I ever hear about is the main character and never the two 'supporting' humans.
All in all, like I said I learned from this. Obviously I messed up. If I ever get around to Fragments 2, I'll take all this into consideration. Though honestly I'm not sure when or if I'm going to bother with book 2. Kinda seems like no one would really want to read it.
Regardless of it's future, I want to focus on my other story. I hope I can keep that one consistent, and not do something stupid again.
(Warning this comment does contain mild spoilers about The Conversion Bureau: Fragments of Regret Read at your own risk, or if you've already read the story.)
Your story was the most interesting of the stories I have read so far in the Conversion Bureau spin offs. I would love to read the next part of the story, it was a fun read and as a complete video game and anime nerd I loved the references in the story. Though I have to say I was disappointed when James didn't become a pony, the pure awesomeness of the DMC scene just made up for it IMHO.
Also, I could easily tell that you didn't mean for James to come off as some kind of overpowered god, if anything he seemed really weak to me, like he had more flash than substance without his friends there to help him.
Keep up the good work if you want to, I'm just one guy with his opinion. And like I said before, I'd like to read the rest of the story some day. It just seems weird to have only part of a story to read. Though it seems like you'll have to rewrite some of the story since the redo of chapter 10. Otherwise it just seems really awkward and a good part of the story is missing. Unless that part was already in the part of the original chapter 10 that I kinda skipped to get to the end of the mental link and see how they got to where they were in chapter 11. (I promise I will read all of the original chapter 10 later, right now it's 4 in the morning and I shouldn't even be awake right now much less reading stories.)
I finished it at 2am, didn't have time to fully proofread it. But I'll give it a look and fix the errors. Could use some help if you find them, thanks!
The last man standing is a really great story, I will admit. It made me cry manly tears. It's a really great read and it stays to the borderline of realism.
And I mean, not running around with ak's and stuff. But scenarios which I believe the human race would actually take if this were to happen.
@Whoever posted about Last Man Standing as Childhood's End:
You're actually right. There are actually too many similarities from
SPOILER!
The way that one human is the last one left alive and cannot join the aliens [ponies], after meeting with the Overmind [Princesses]. Props to the whole clone thing though, that's legit. But other than that...
@Anonymous The similarities with Childhood's end is surprising, even to me! I have read many of Arthur C Clarke's works in the past, aside from that one, and the similarities are very apparent.
Heh, sorry about that. I'm rewriting the majority of the story by touching up scenes that desperately needed it, and adding in some new ones. Currently the LMS link goes to the first half of the entire story (parts 1 to most of 6). I'm going to be working on the rework of the final chapters and add them to that doc. If you still wish to read the old chapters, follow the DA link on the doc file. Links to the individual chapters can be found there.
Part 4 of Change of Life really is something brilliant. I love how FirstTimePonyWriter has gone back to the beginning of Robert and Dash's relationship. It really added to the tension caused by the dramatic revelations at the end of Chapter 3. :)
uh, there'll be a better update for this post soon, I hope. I'm not sure what's actually new, but if you trot on over to http://www.ponychan.net/chan/fic/res/21434.html#21434 and check out the thread. There's about five sets of stories (multiple parters) not even listed at the beginning, and the channel post itself is chocca with more than are listed here.
As much as I'm enjoying these, this page really *really* needs to get rid of the old 'new' tags so we can actually tell which stories got updated this time round, rather than the last couple chapters of every story having the tag!
John Norris is another broken man in the last days of humanity. It has been years since he last left his apartment for something outside of restocking his food and water supply. Enter Azure Wind, a young pegasus colt, bearing a letter that explains he is his son. The two bond and much is learned by both in this light hearted comedic tale.
@Anonymous I had addressed this in another post above: I'm rewriting most of it. If you still would like to read the old chapters, follow the link in the story above to my DA page. They're all there.
@ActionScripter9109: I found the ending of Chapter 14 a little disappointing. Partly in the whole morality-of-the-hero thing, partly in that it eliminates the possibility of an "unconversion bureau" in which ponies could be turned into humans (now that would be an interesting moral quandary for the ponies: it's all right for humans to get changed into ponies, but what about ponies who are human-curious?)—but largely in that it makes little sense for Mr. Mad Scientist not to have built an "IF subject.genetics = human THEN break" loop into his nanites. After all, accidents do happen, and if one of his bombs went off by accident outside of Equestria, he'd become a mass murderer of members of the very species he's trying to "save".
"The person is smart, people are dumb, panky, dangerous animals, and you know it. 1,500 years ago, everbody knew that earth was the center of the universe. 500 years ago, everboy knew the earth was flat. And 15 minutes ago you knew that people were alone on this planet. Imagine what you'll know tomarrow."
HAHA! Aw man! I love Chapter 14 for Sidelines! The entire 3rd act of the chapter is very reminiscent of any James Bond film, and me being a huge fan of the 007 series, I fell in love with it. I can't wait for more!
Author of First Contact and Ponies of a Rising Sun here. I didn't know someone had submitted my stories in my stead. Which is slightly odd, considering I was eventually going to submit them to here on my own.
Umm, they're in the ponychan thread where I've said multiple times that I'm collecting everything together to put onto EqD and to let me know if you don't want to be on EqD for some reason - they link to your documents, they link to the ponychan thread, they credit you...
TCB stories won't go up anywhere else but the TCB post, so if you want them up at all, they'll go here!
This is Anonsi, and I have noticed the links to Yellowstone the series are messed up. So here Yellowstone the Series (Anonsi) Episode 1 part 1: http://tinyurl.com/3ok5qb8 part 2: http://tinyurl.com/3grwdv7 part 3: http://tinyurl.com/44y75qz ------- Episode 2: http://tinyurl.com/3p65m6u
These should work. If they don't then I will have to do some editing.
I feel like I have to recommend Why?, Dinner With Friends, and Maverick specifically. Many of these are great, but the first two in particular are fantastic. They raise important questions about trans/posthumanism, the human condition, all that cool moralist stuff, and it's done in a manner that's not particularly ham-handed. The third is just downright fun so far.
Point is, if you've taken the time to read this comment, take the time to read those three, because so far, they're the best, of the source material and later pieces.
I hope I didn't upset you - this isn't an archive that takes your stuff without permission and squirrels it away. I don't change anything, I'm just linking to the same documents you've already made public - in addition to linking to the original location as much as is feasible on a board like ponychan.
Like I explained, I'd be hard-pressed to accept a TCB fanfic (or one based on the premise) as a standalone when we specifically have this thread for them (although to be honest, I like it enough it could easily stand on it's own).
So...you've already published it, I'm linking to the same documents, giving you credit and generally doing what the web already does. I hope that's okay, but if it isn't then let me know - if you want it at all up on EqD it will either go here or nowhere unless blogpony changes his stance on such things.
1) This post is a fixed (and bungled again with yellowstone the series) version which is actually an update to a sneaked-in update post the bump a few days ago. Prior to THAT bump, there were somewhat less than half the fics in this post now.
2) yes, somehow I screwed up YtS episode 2, and blogpony misunderstood my plaintiff attempt to fix it and munged episode 1.
If you search up a few comments, you'll find all the links! It's also correct in the guide.
No man, it's cool. It's my fault that I didn't read the post on ponychan. i'm cool with my stuff getting added to the archive. I just expected that I'd have to send it in like normal fics.
You're alright. I'm not mad or anything, seriously! n__n
Hey, Midnight, I gave you a full synopsis (although I will admit yours is quite good too). Also, you know my name is Lightsideluc and I brought up the fact that my name was mispelled several times and now, even on the offical page, it's still wrong. What do I have to do to just get my name right, huh? HUH? Just RAEGin'.
I'll fix it for next time, I promise, I scoured the threads and thought I'd caught all the replies and had updated the doc properly. I apologize. I screwed it up.
missing synopsis aside (which I can't find) - as I said i ponychan, where have I spelled your name wrong? It's lightsideluc...that's how I've spelled it (unless you mean the first letter should be L which is hardly something to rage about).
If it's something else you'll have to point it out. I'm tired and I don't see the mistake at all.
I've only read one fic on this list, "Change of Life", and I'm completely hooked crazy. If it wasn't stuck in this list, it would be worth 5 stars and personally I give it six. A Dash shipping fic that's actually about love instead of (sexstuff) and stellar prose skill and stuff I'm not good enough to compliment. Dude who's writing it, please for the love of amazing fiction, finish it please please please!!!!1!!!!! :D
well anon, and I hope this gets to you, you can visit the ponychan thread if you want, or send them to blogpony like normal if you don't.
he'll send them to me, so you can also send them straight to me - I'd suggest putting them on the ponychan thread because it's a lot of fun, but if you want to make sure they're included then let me know.
well anon, either learn to use ponychan (it's not very difficult) or submit it to blogpony like any other story, just mark it as a "conversion bureau" side-story.
It'll get to me.
I've also made my email visible in my blogger profile (I'm wary of typing it out here as despite google's spam prevention, I get enough email as it is that if spam ever got through it'd be a nightmare.
in short though, it's midnight shadow pony (at) gmail. All one word, with com at the end.
Yeah, she's got the body of a human, but a horn shoots from her head. There can be no ponies in earth or humans in equestria, talking more would mean spoilers.
They actually linked this to the unedited version, noticing this I asked seth to change the link, he said that by the next post it should be corrected. I expect further chapters to be completely grammatically accurate.
I'm glad you're liking it, the story shouldn't let anyone down... hohohoho....
@RoflLuxRay Thanks for the clarification! It's a fascinating take on the entire idea, but leaves me with one more question: If unicorns keep their horns, i presume pegasi keep their wings. What differentiates earth ponies who are on earth from a normal human being?
@RoflLuxRay That just screams trouble. You won't find out until too late that your date is actually a pony. And for the hair: Who knows? Maybe those gosh darn kids are just dying their hair all those wacky colors!
I apologise for the double post, but I just realised something.
I was reading your Conversion Bureau Guide, and The End should not be in the Ten Rounds universe. In The End, the ponies do not extend their efforts outside of the conversion bureaus, once they are all closed, whereas in Ten Rounds, they obviously do.
I do not know exactly how the compilation post is organised, but I think it would be useful to have series related to one another, or at least series that directly follow one another, well, listed so.
I know there are several groups of stories at least, but this was brought to my attention by that Last Man Standing is listed seventh, whereas Last Man Standing: Aftermath is listed twenty-fifth. What an amazing story by the way. I have never in all of my reading experienced that kind of emotional response.
The stories in this post as well as the linkboard on the Ponychan thread are organized by the order in which they were first presented. Ponychan has a more updated list of stories, as well as new chapters being posted very often.
And thank you for taking the time to read Last Man Standing! I'm very glad you enjoyed it!
After reading the original story, I went to bed and had the weirdest dream about it, it was soooo detailed that I may be able to make it into a fanfic spinoff. :-D
Reading The Conversion Bureau: Last man Standing Chapters eight and end part, I started to cry. What made it all the more powerfull was I was and still am listening to this...
Ah man, I'm still wipping away tears from that. that actually made me cry, that story reached out to me...it reminded me of my grandmothers death...how I was 'unstable' for a long time...
But my friends and family helped me through it, Windchaser Thank you for the most beautifull storie I have read so far...
It takes alot to make me cry...and this did it. thanks. :')
Y'know, I've never quite felt this exact mixture of emmense pride and utter horror.
I think it's because that since this post updated, my story has already doubled its views on FiMFiction. Never mind the fact that it's even on EqD now.
Eat something, then run around Pinkie Pie style till you want to fall asleep, that's what I do when Really well known people thank me or mention my name.
Derp, I would've done that if I already didn't translate my anxiousness into finishing the rewrite of Chapter 2, seeing as how it's linked up there and it hasn't been published for a week as I had to take it down to rewrite it.
I just finished it, and writing it really was calming, surprisingly.
...BTW, I'm really starting to enjoy this concept. It may be a good opportunity for me to practice character design... you know, being able to do a borderline self-insert without creating a Mary Sue... I may wind up putting my own spin on this series...
Windchaser, god damn it. I read Last Man Standing, and adored it. My personal favourite piece here by far. Eye of the Beholder looked like it was well on its way to a similar accolade. The first chapter of Aftermath was pretty great. Then, suddenly, Seven. I can't...I expected a certain degree of insufferable Mary Sue-dom from TCB as a whole, and I can live with it to a certain extent. But this? This hurts, man. I feel betrayed. Oh well. Ugh, I guess I'll have to get over it, seeing as I intend to continue reading.
Also, updated Dinner With Friends made my day. I love DWF, looking forward to reading more when it FINALLY gets written.
I'm in the process of writing my own, Had a huge creative burst and got two parts and a Prologue written in a Week, just would like someone to give it a quick check for consistency and a check for mistakes. Then I'll happily send it to Midnight for him to gander at.
@Anon, Last man standing is a must read for anyone interested in this Idea. I won't comment on Aftermath having not read it yet, but the Mary-Sue Self Insert idea is one that many new writers will struggle to deal with in this kind of setting. Haven't Read Dinner with Friends, but i'll take a look at it.
@Anonymous I appreciate your praise for Last Man Standing. I truly do.
The story behind Aftermath is this: Videomaster enjoyed the story so much he began to write a spinoff of it, taking place after the epilogue. I saw it and offered my services in helping to act as an editor, offering input on the characters in LMS as best I could.
To me, Last Man Standing ended at the epilogue. I am an editor for Videomaster's story. And I am sorry you feel that way about it. He has some fun ideas in store for the story, and I hope that you end up finding them to your liking.
@Anonymous Considering I wrote 'Friendship is Rubbish' and have been working through the idea of CB'ing the Top Gear Trio, I think I now have an opening line.
Ohshi- I just gave away my next CB fic idea.
Either way, shouldn't I complain about stories being unseen and unmentioned? A Mare's Tail is finished and it's got not a single mention. Although, I'm certain I've seen something for The End and Midnight's Tail in the old CB topic, before the split!
You've got my attention,It's a rather interesting concept; John's Reactions are a bit Switch based, I'd expected some sort of doubt when the Colt turned up, Some Pony just knocked on your door and claimed to be your child I would believe it straight away. But I'll keep my eye on the story it looks good.
Directed at your Author's Note: There are so many Norris' in the world I joked to myself that I could know YOU! But that would seem Weird...
@everyone who likes my story Thanks! I'm glad you're all enjoying it!
@anonymous (who didn't) Yeah, I'm with you for the most part, but as you can see, I'm moving back towards the original style of the series (less actiony action, more inner conflicts and discussion).
Yep, it is I. The author of Fragments of Regret who is writing Aftermath. I'm sure it just lost over a dozen readers. >_<
I get where you are coming from man. Aftermath doesn't really 'feel' like Last Man Standing. I honestly figured Windchaser would tell me to stop as soon as he saw what I wrote. :P
I'm a fan of anime, and I kinda see Aftermath as a sci-fi anime. Yes there are humans with magic. There is a good reason for it, and I hope anyone who isn't bothered by that fact to continue reading to see just how this all comes together. Don't worry about another 'chapter 9' happening. Windchaser is on hand to smack me if I do that. XD
For those who are put off by the concept, I do apologize, but like Windchaser said. He considers LMS to have ended with his epilogue. You can kinda see my story as non-canon.
So I look here and it seems the HLF is always the bad guys in these stories. What the fuck?! Personally, I would agree with them. Some aliens from another dimension comes along and takes away most of our population, takes money for it, and gets to benefit from our technology, yet give us pretty much nothing, I would fight them. I would HATE them!
Adding Celestia as a tyrant, that's a pretty good fanfic idea... Probably should give names for the pro-conversion human groups, anti-conversion pony groups, etc...
The ponies and humans against conversion mostly hate each other and join forces so they don't have to deal with each other. But they have other less 'childish' reasons to cut off the portal between worlds. Oh ya, another thing I want is, the HLF probably isn't consisted fully of humans. Some ponies probably have their own parallel extremist group.
Human Liberation Front are against Ponification,and with most the stories involving the main character either entering the Ponification Process or protecting Pony's, this is normally the case. There are a few stories where this isn't such as Last Man standing.
Celestia as a Tyrant, I've never been a fan of this idea in Fan-Fics so I normally avoid them, thorugh I can see this would make an affective position to write a Fan-fic on, Ten Rounds, portrays a good basis for this idea.
The Three main groups are the HLF ISHA And PER (Ponification for the Earth’s Rebirth) Who basically do Forced Ponification upon remaining Humans.
On the /fic/ board there's a few storys beginning that focus on other aspects of this Universe, such as the A.I point of view, people who are Part of the HLF.
I recommend heading onto Ponychan and looking through the Last two Conversion Bureau Threads to get the most accurate list of Fan-fics in this Universe :)
Just tried to read An Azure Future. Got to the point where the started talking in the bakery and stopped reading. I couldn't go on anymore.
I'll admit, it was the grammar/spelling errors and general failure of the author to proof-read their work and edit it appropriately that ultimately drove me away from it.
What I don't like is that, it seems like the HLF is always viewed negatively, while ponies and ponification is always viewed positively. I hate black and white morality. It's unrealistic.
In fact, to counter this out, I wonder if there's actually a fanfic that antagonizes the ponies trying to ponify everyone with HLF as the protagonists.
At this point I could write a fanfic with this. But, yknow, too lazy...
So, any recommendations that view both sides neutrally? Where neither side is exactly right nor wrong.
Views both sides neutrally? I'd have to recommend Last man standing, it's not exactly to your request but probably pulls it off. (Been through revision since I last read it...)
Apart from that there are quite a few stories up and coming that aren't from such a Black and white perspective, so wait for the next update on here or watch the Ponychan thread on /fic/
I read Last Man Standing in one sitting because of how amazing it was. It rocked my emotions and kept me hooked the whole way through. It is seriously my new #1 favorite story in this whole pony fandom, and I've read over 100 stories ranging from 5-6 stars to long epics. I kept repeating to myself "It's too good ..." while reading it. The ending blew me away in ineffable silence.

Good to see that all of the spin-offs getting their own post. The other one was filled with tons of hateful comments about the original story.
ReplyDeleteWhat happened to the original anyway? Seperate page? Did I miss something?
ReplyDeleteTHIS HAS GOTTEN OUT OF HAND.
ReplyDeleteyeah what did happen to the original?
ReplyDeleteHeeey.... mine's not a self insert! I'm not a chick... 'least I don't think I am. Freakin' ponies man, how do they work.
ReplyDelete...So yeah, everyone owes it to read Sidelines, Midnight's Tail, and Last Man Standing. I haven't read Yellowstone, so check that yourselves.
Check all of them.

Seriously, this just went to my Top 3 TCB fics, and it's only the first chapter.
Oh right... I just ralized after a month that my story description is the WHOLE description...meh.
ReplyDeleteRalized...yay!

ReplyDeleteGet the original author to send it to Blogpony and he can add it :)
Glad to see that these have their own posts. While controversial because of blantant self-insertion, the original was important because it at least offered an interesting idea, one that others have taken and ran with, with better results, especially in stories like Pride, Sidelines, and Last Man Standing.
ReplyDeleteAnd I have no doubt that other good stories based on the same idea, whether "in fanon" or just loosely, will follow.
Here's the original apparently:

ReplyDeleteI agree with you there, It all went to hell as he somehow became a god (and Mary sue, imho.) with no weakness.
The Last Man Standing was fantastic, however I saw the ending coming a mile away. It was probably a blessing considering I had the perfect song for it: Flaming Lips-Feeling Yourself Disintegrate. ReplyDeleteDude, no offense, but the "Dante" scene totally put me off.
ReplyDeleteAgain, thank you all :D
@Windchaser
ReplyDeleteYour story ended so perfectly, I'm torn between wanting to see more and closing the book on that final sentence. I just don't see how you can top that(I mean that is the nicest way possible)!!!

Aw, see, now I just finished Last Man Standing. THAT is how the last member of the human race goes. Take notes, future nuclear armageddon survivors; Isaac just showed you whiners how it's f**king done.

wind, you mind helping me out with last man standing if its not too much of a bother?

ReplyDeleteThe link above should work. but here's an alternative link you can use. hope it helps :)

i need to go sad face in a corner right now, google docs just hates me ;_;
ReplyDeleteJust finished reading Last Man Standing.
ReplyDeleteThe ending... manly tears were shed.
I've been thinking of writing my own fic relating to TCB, but after seeing what others have written (this, Sidelines, Midnight, to name a few) I'm discouraged. Might go through with the idea though.
Chapter 5 for sidelines won't work. Even once I log into Gmail.
ReplyDeleteSONIC!? Y U NO RITE LONGER CHAPTERS!?
ReplyDelete@Anonymous
ReplyDeleteOh I know Dante is basically the biggest Gary Stu out there.
I hope I can keep that one consistent, and not do something stupid again.
i can't be the only one with the problem of not being able to read more of a story.
ReplyDeleteLast Man Standing... beautiful.
ReplyDeleteManly tears were shed.
Ohh new TCB story!
ReplyDelete*reads*
I like it! Very original! Sometimes very wall-of-texty, but thats alright! I will be keeping up on this one for sure!
my god i hate google docs now, everyone says last man standing 8 is damn good and i can't read it -_-
ReplyDeleteNO! Why couldn't Trollestia wait till Isaac died? What would have mattered another fifty or sixty years?
ReplyDeleteNo tears were shed here, but damn... I haven't felt this touched since Field of Dreams. Fatherhood is serious business. Seriously.
Well done, Windchaser.
@Anonymous
ReplyDeleteemail me at [email protected] and i'll send you a .doc copy of chapter 8 and the epilogue.

ReplyDeleteThe Last Man Standing sounds way to similar to a book known as Childhood's End. (No offense, it's pretty similar)

@Anonymous
ReplyDeleteHonestly? Finals. But summer vacation is almost here, so I'm feeling some more serious writing coming along.
@videomaster21XX
ReplyDelete(Warning this comment does contain mild spoilers about The Conversion Bureau: Fragments of Regret
Read at your own risk, or if you've already read the story.)
You know its really Grimdark when it has "as fuck" in the end.
ReplyDelete@blindferret
ReplyDeleteDid you read "the end" or just...commenting? :D
yeah, it's really kinda grimdark...
A Mare's Tale Part 5 has been on DeviantArt now for a couple of days.
ReplyDelete@Anonymous
ReplyDeleteooh!
anon, you should'a just linked it! I've been waiting for that series to update!
...now I gotta go read them again from #2.

ReplyDeleteAll these Conversion Bureau stories are depressing as fuck.
ReplyDeleteEspecially for a human supremacist such as me :(
Damnit Sidelines!
ReplyDeleteY U SO interesting to read but have such short chapters and long update times!?!? [/rage]
Would love it if people learned to spell 'choked' properly (Guardian chronicles, ep 2).
ReplyDelete@Anonymous
ReplyDeleteI finished it at 2am, didn't have time to fully proofread it. But I'll give it a look and fix the errors. Could use some help if you find them, thanks!
New episodes of Fragments of Regret.. holy bleep, story-whiplash! Someone derailed the storyline train and sent it madly barreling down a hill.
ReplyDeleteI'm left wondering what this entails.
The last man standing is a really great story, I will admit. It made me cry manly tears. It's a really great read and it stays to the borderline of realism.
ReplyDeleteAnd I mean, not running around with ak's and stuff. But scenarios which I believe the human race would actually take if this were to happen.
The story gets a 5/6 from me!
@Whoever posted about Last Man Standing as Childhood's End:
ReplyDeleteYou're actually right. There are actually too many similarities from
SPOILER!
The way that one human is the last one left alive and cannot join the aliens [ponies], after meeting with the Overmind [Princesses]. Props to the whole clone thing though, that's legit. But other than that...
/SPOILER!
@Anonymous
ReplyDeleteThe similarities with Childhood's end is surprising, even to me! I have read many of Arthur C Clarke's works in the past, aside from that one, and the similarities are very apparent.
Oh come on! What the hell happened to the rest of "Last Man Standing"?!? That one was my favorite!
ReplyDelete@Anonymous
ReplyDeleteHeh, sorry about that.
I apologize for any inconvenience :)
Part 4 of Change of Life really is something brilliant. I love how FirstTimePonyWriter has gone back to the beginning of Robert and Dash's relationship. It really added to the tension caused by the dramatic revelations at the end of Chapter 3. :)
ReplyDeletewoooO!!!! LOVE ALL THESE!~
ReplyDeleteHoly crap sidelines, you stole my name, lol I have to read it now.
ReplyDeleteI now realize I wrote a really shitty description of my story.
ReplyDeleteThe misanthropy present here makes me rage.
ReplyDeleteHey now, not every story has misanthropy.
ReplyDeleteuh, there'll be a better update for this post soon, I hope. I'm not sure what's actually new, but if you trot on over to http://www.ponychan.net/chan/fic/res/21434.html#21434 and check out the thread. There's about five sets of stories (multiple parters) not even listed at the beginning, and the channel post itself is chocca with more than are listed here.
ReplyDeleteInteresting- usually Seth has a every hour-sometimes half hour policy.
ReplyDeleteBut look at the times for today's posts...
As much as I'm enjoying these, this page really *really* needs to get rid of the old 'new' tags so we can actually tell which stories got updated this time round, rather than the last couple chapters of every story having the tag!
ReplyDeleteFor that matter, all but the first chapters for Last Man Standing seem to have dissapeared too...
ReplyDeleteDang it, y u no remove "NEW" tags from Sidelines?! You got my hopes up!
ReplyDeletehave a better description for AAF:
ReplyDeleteJohn Norris is another broken man in the last days of humanity. It has been years since he last left his apartment for something outside of restocking his food and water supply. Enter Azure Wind, a young pegasus colt, bearing a letter that explains he is his son. The two bond and much is learned by both in this light hearted comedic tale.
For anyone who is following "Sidelines", Chapter 14 is up. Use this link: http://bit.ly/gwDk4c
ReplyDeletelol, the ponification potion is "fruit flavored".
ReplyDeleteAnyone remember the Jonestown massacre?
Kool-Aid, anyone?
@Anonymous
ReplyDeletejust keep on reaching for that straw, just keeeeeep reaching, grasping...
@Anonymous
ReplyDeleteI had addressed this in another post above: I'm rewriting most of it. If you still would like to read the old chapters, follow the link in the story above to my DA page. They're all there.
@bri_chan
ReplyDeleteah, I'm revising my estimate down a bit.
grimdark, yes, but cupcakes? well...you tell me.
Loved Yellowstone, can't wait for the sequel, sounds like it's going to be awsome.
ReplyDelete@Anonymous
ReplyDeleteIts pretty good

ReplyDeleteHere's a link to Change of Life Part 5 for anyone interested
@ActionScripter9109: I found the ending of Chapter 14 a little disappointing. Partly in the whole morality-of-the-hero thing, partly in that it eliminates the possibility of an "unconversion bureau" in which ponies could be turned into humans (now that would be an interesting moral quandary for the ponies: it's all right for humans to get changed into ponies, but what about ponies who are human-curious?)—but largely in that it makes little sense for Mr. Mad Scientist not to have built an "IF subject.genetics = human THEN break" loop into his nanites. After all, accidents do happen, and if one of his bombs went off by accident outside of Equestria, he'd become a mass murderer of members of the very species he's trying to "save".

why does this take so long to update!!!
ReplyDeleteWhy does episode 2 of Yellowstone: The Series bring me to a blank document?
ReplyDeleteuhh i really need to know what happens next in change of life!
ReplyDeleteHAHA! Aw man! I love Chapter 14 for Sidelines! The entire 3rd act of the chapter is very reminiscent of any James Bond film, and me being a huge fan of the 007 series, I fell in love with it. I can't wait for more!
ReplyDeleteTrust me, anon. We all do.

@D4SHTH3R4INB0W
ReplyDelete...Yeah, I kinda updated the post. Properly this time (I'll pretend I didn't get YtS ep 2 screwed up - you should read that, it's fun).
The links for Yellowstone the Series are kinda messed up. Part 2 of episode 1 links to episode 2, and the link labelled episode 2 doesn't work.
ReplyDeleteAuthor of First Contact and Ponies of a Rising Sun here. I didn't know someone had submitted my stories in my stead. Which is slightly odd, considering I was eventually going to submit them to here on my own.
ReplyDeleteIs this normal?
@Purple Prose
ReplyDeleteUmm, they're in the ponychan thread where I've said multiple times that I'm collecting everything together to put onto EqD and to let me know if you don't want to be on EqD for some reason - they link to your documents, they link to the ponychan thread, they credit you...
TCB stories won't go up anywhere else but the TCB post, so if you want them up at all, they'll go here!
@Anonymous
ReplyDeleteand oh dear - they should be correct in the guide and on ponychan.
I'll get them fixed, sorry!

Oh, and I have to present, "The End" - the audiobook. Read by Tenure.
ReplyDeletehttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BCq-36cB6WI
@Midnight
ReplyDeleteOh. Sorry, I think I missed that part in the post. Duly noted. Mea culpa.
DARN YOU FIRST TIME PONY WRITER WHY U NO UPDATE?
ReplyDeleteI feel like I have to recommend Why?, Dinner With Friends, and Maverick specifically. Many of these are great, but the first two in particular are fantastic. They raise important questions about trans/posthumanism, the human condition, all that cool moralist stuff, and it's done in a manner that's not particularly ham-handed. The third is just downright fun so far.
ReplyDeletePoint is, if you've taken the time to read this comment, take the time to read those three, because so far, they're the best, of the source material and later pieces.
Sparky here. This is my google account.
ReplyDeleteUmmm... that's it really. I like to think my fic is okay-ish but it's actually shit compared to First Contact (basically a complete rip-off lol)
@Purple Prose
ReplyDeleteI hope I didn't upset you - this isn't an archive that takes your stuff without permission and squirrels it away.
Not seeing a whole of new content with the new update. Maybe I'm just not seeing it.
ReplyDeleteAlso, is Episode 2 for Yellowstone working for anyone? I just keep getting a blank google doc I can write on.
@Anonymous
ReplyDeletetwo things
1) This post is a fixed (and bungled again with yellowstone the series) version which is actually an update to a sneaked-in update post the bump a few days ago. Prior to THAT bump, there were somewhat less than half the fics in this post now.
2) yes, somehow I screwed up YtS episode 2, and blogpony misunderstood my plaintiff attempt to fix it and munged episode 1.
If you search up a few comments, you'll find all the links! It's also correct in the guide.
@Midnight
ReplyDeleteNo man, it's cool. It's my fault that I didn't read the post on ponychan. i'm cool with my stuff getting added to the archive. I just expected that I'd have to send it in like normal fics.
You're alright. I'm not mad or anything, seriously! n__n
@Midnight
ReplyDeleteThank you
Hey, Midnight, I gave you a full synopsis (although I will admit yours is quite good too).
ReplyDeleteAlso, you know my name is Lightsideluc and I brought up the fact that my name was mispelled several times and now, even on the offical page, it's still wrong. What do I have to do to just get my name right, huh? HUH?
Just RAEGin'.
@lightsideluc
ReplyDeleteuh, slap me upside the head I think.
I'll fix it for next time, I promise, I scoured the threads and thought I'd caught all the replies and had updated the doc properly. I apologize. I screwed it up.
@Midnight
ReplyDeletemissing synopsis aside (which I can't find) - as I said i ponychan, where have I spelled your name wrong? It's lightsideluc...that's how I've spelled it (unless you mean the first letter should be L which is hardly something to rage about).
If it's something else you'll have to point it out. I'm tired and I don't see the mistake at all.
isaac no, why did you have to die
ReplyDeletei well and truly cried, in all sincerity
windchaser, you magnificent bastard, that was perfect ;_;
ReplyDelete@Anonymous
ReplyDeleteJust wait until i finish the 2nd half of the rewrite! >:D
But I'm very glad you enjoyed it!
-sweetjesus-
ReplyDeletewell, i know what my summer book will be...
Its probably very obvious and i've accidentally skipped over it, but how do we submit our fics into this?
ReplyDelete@Anonymous
ReplyDeletewell anon, and I hope this gets to you, you can visit the ponychan thread if you want, or send them to blogpony like normal if you don't.
he'll send them to me, so you can also send them straight to me - I'd suggest putting them on the ponychan thread because it's a lot of fun, but if you want to make sure they're included then let me know.
@Midnight
ReplyDeleteI feel dumb saying this buuut i've never really been on ponychan and I have no idea how to submit anything there.
Can/how can I send it straight to you?
OMG when is the next chapter for change of life gonna come out im dying over wondering whats gonna happen next!!
ReplyDeleteSidelines Chapter 15 is up! Link: http://bit.ly/gwDk4c

Concerning Salvation Through Destruction:
ReplyDeleteI like the story so far, but I'm a tad confused. Does Twilight have the body of a human? Or is it from some sort of spell?
Aside from some small grammar errors, it looks very promising! I'll be sure to keep up on it!
hey windchaser when is the next chapter of change of life coming
ReplyDelete@Anonymous
ReplyDeleteYou might want to ask FirstTimePonyWriter that question. Being they are the actual author of that story.
@Anonymous
ReplyDeletewell anon, either learn to use ponychan (it's not very difficult) or submit it to blogpony like any other story, just mark it as a "conversion bureau" side-story.
@Windchaser
ReplyDeleteYeah, she's got the body of a human, but a horn shoots from her head.
@RoflLuxRay
ReplyDeleteThanks for the clarification! It's a fascinating take on the entire idea, but leaves me with one more question: If unicorns keep their horns, i presume pegasi keep their wings. What differentiates earth ponies who are on earth from a normal human being?
@Windchaser
ReplyDeleteJust their cutie mark and overall looks (i.e, exotic hair color). Other than that, they look exactly like humans. Imagine the possibilities??
@RoflLuxRay
ReplyDeleteThat just screams trouble. You won't find out until too late that your date is actually a pony. And for the hair: Who knows? Maybe those gosh darn kids are just dying their hair all those wacky colors!
@Windchaser
ReplyDeleteYou sir, have just won the lottery.
Fortunately only one earth pony pops up on earth throughout the whole story. *spoiler spoiler spoiler*.
"The End" was beautifully written.
ReplyDeleteIf you can endure the emotional wracking and wrenching, I would encourage reading it.
@sotha
ReplyDeleteI apologise for the double post, but I just realised something.
ReplyDeleteI know there are several groups of stories at least, but this was brought to my attention by that Last Man Standing is listed seventh, whereas Last Man Standing: Aftermath is listed twenty-fifth. What an amazing story by the way. I have never in all of my reading experienced that kind of emotional response.
@sotha
ReplyDeleteThe stories in this post as well as the linkboard on the Ponychan thread are organized by the order in which they were first presented. Ponychan has a more updated list of stories, as well as new chapters being posted very often.
And thank you for taking the time to read Last Man Standing! I'm very glad you enjoyed it!
these stories would be 100 percent better if they updated faster
ReplyDelete@sotha
ReplyDeleteActually that's a good point, and let me make a thorough and succinct rebuttal because..
...look! A space shuttle!
*flees*
Chapter 15 and 16 are up...
ReplyDeleteAfter reading the original story, I went to bed and had the weirdest dream about it, it was soooo detailed that I may be able to make it into a fanfic spinoff. :-D
ReplyDeleteHAY THE LINK FOR The Conversion Bureau: First Contact - Part 6 DOS NOT WORK
ReplyDelete@Anonymous
ReplyDeleteI just checked my backup post copy. ALL the links are screwed. You can fix them easily by hand, but it still sucks.
They're now fixed! Let me know if there's trouble like that again!
Reading The Conversion Bureau: Last man Standing
ReplyDeleteChapters eight and end part, I started to cry.
What made it all the more powerfull was I was and still am listening to this...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2kFlof6C9Rg&feature=related
And this...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3UbGX_-HZL4
Ah man, I'm still wipping away tears from that.
that actually made me cry, that story reached out to me...it reminded me of my grandmothers death...how I was 'unstable' for a long time...
But my friends and family helped me through it, Windchaser
Thank you for the most beautifull storie I have read so far...
It takes alot to make me cry...and this did it.
thanks. :')
OH GOD PAGE BREAK!
ReplyDeleteWell, It's raining and there's a The Conversion Bureau update, Nice; That's my day planned.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite has to be the Sidelines one. Speaking of which, does anypony here know of a collection of all chapters?
ReplyDelete@Sonic
ReplyDeleteYour fanfics are great. Dunno why, but the conversation at the end of chapter 14 made me really sad. Thank you.
@blindferret
ReplyDeleteIf you open up Google Docs then you should be able to find a folder called [The Conversion Bureau: Sidelines]
I almost didn't make to the botton of the page zomg, anyways this thing is massive, looks like i'mma spend a lot of mah time around these.
ReplyDeleteY'know, I've never quite felt this exact mixture of emmense pride and utter horror.
ReplyDeleteI think it's because that since this post updated, my story has already doubled its views on FiMFiction. Never mind the fact that it's even on EqD now.
Oh lordie, I think I'm gonna be sick.
@ScalierHat
ReplyDeleteThank you very much. Fanfic reading rate went up fast.
@SonicBoom01
ReplyDeleteEat something, then run around Pinkie Pie style till you want to fall asleep, that's what I do when Really well known people thank me or mention my name.
@ScalierHat
ReplyDeleteDerp, I would've done that if I already didn't translate my anxiousness into finishing the rewrite of Chapter 2, seeing as how it's linked up there and it hasn't been published for a week as I had to take it down to rewrite it.
I just finished it, and writing it really was calming, surprisingly.
I have only one thing to say:
ReplyDeleteSIDELINES! :D
Sidelines starts to suck after the 13th chapter.
ReplyDeleteSo much content... @_@
ReplyDelete...where do I begin?
No, I mean literally, WHERE do I begin? I have no way of knowing which ones are the best!
@Not A Good Username 360
ReplyDeleteI would Suggest Starting with Midnights Tale, Then Try Sidelines and Last Man standing.
@ScalierHat K, then!
ReplyDelete...BTW, I'm really starting to enjoy this concept. It may be a good opportunity for me to practice character design... you know, being able to do a borderline self-insert without creating a Mary Sue... I may wind up putting my own spin on this series...
Windchaser, god damn it.
ReplyDeleteI read Last Man Standing, and adored it.
@Not A Good Username 360
ReplyDeleteI'm in the process of writing my own, Had a huge creative burst and got two parts and a Prologue written in a Week, just would like someone to give it a quick check for consistency and a check for mistakes.
@Anonymous
ReplyDeleteI appreciate your praise for Last Man Standing.
More Yellowstone! Huzzah!
ReplyDeleteAnd Sweetie Pop is hysterical, especially in the Stay Tuned short.
Damn near 170 comments, and not a one for AAF.
ReplyDeleteFor some reason that picture reminds me of a certain show..
ReplyDelete"TONIGHT on Top Gear, we have the fastest pony.. IN THE WORLD."
@Krass McWriter
ReplyDeleteI LIKE AN AZURE FUTURE. IT IS A GOOD STORY. MORE AN AZURE FUTURE.
Also,
SSAAAACCCCKKK!
@Krass McWriter
ReplyDeleteps: I don't think there's any for midnights tail, twist in the tail OR the end, either! D:
@Anonymous
ReplyDeleteConsidering I wrote 'Friendship is Rubbish' and have been working through the idea of CB'ing the Top Gear Trio, I think I now have an opening line.
Just read Dinner with Friends, That's a good piece or writing there, I'll keep watch on that.
ReplyDelete@Krass McWriter
You're in luck, I'm just about to read that one, Let me start and I'll tell you what I think
@HiddenBrony
ReplyDeleteI loved a Mare's Tail, real nice work In my opinion. the change of character at the end was a little odd but I expected it.
@Midnight Shadow Funnily enough, I had an idea like Twist in the tail, put the day I began to write it you posted the first part of it.
@ScalierHat
ReplyDeletewell don't let that stop you!
@Midnight Shadow
ReplyDeleteIt was one of Two Ideas, I preferred the one I'm writing...
@Krass McWriter
ReplyDeleteYou've got my attention,It's a rather interesting concept; John's Reactions are a bit Switch based, I'd expected some sort of doubt when the Colt turned up, Some Pony just knocked on your door and claimed to be your child I would believe it straight away. But I'll keep my eye on the story it looks good.
Directed at your Author's Note:
There are so many Norris' in the world I joked to myself that I could know YOU! But that would seem Weird...
For anyone reading Ring of Fire: Here is a link to chapter 3!

ReplyDeleteit just goes to part 7
@everyone who likes my story
ReplyDeleteThanks! I'm glad you're all enjoying it!
@anonymous (who didn't)
Yeah, I'm with you for the most part, but as you can see, I'm moving back towards the original style of the series (less actiony action, more inner conflicts and discussion).
@Anonymous
ReplyDeleteWow, I'm getting Fragments flashbacks. XD
A Twist in the Tail:
ReplyDeleteRarity has a Gyrobowl.
This amuses me far more than it should.
Twist in the Tail: Chapter-4
ReplyDeleteWhere the fek is it!? Me need!
@Anonymous
ReplyDeleteoh good grief...really?
@Anonymous
ReplyDeleteso angry with myself...part 6 is here!
This whole series REALLY demands reading.

@videomaster21xx
ReplyDeleteYou wrote Fragments of Regret? You know I am disappointed...
Cause you promised Fragments of Hope! >.< Continue!
And to Windchaser, Ring of Fire is looking awesome so far.
@Midnight
ReplyDeleteFor some reason, both me and by browser derped and commented in the wrong post.
@Midnight
ReplyDeleteCan't tell if being sarcastic or not...
But yeah, really. Awesome story.
The ending of Last Man Standing is pretty much this song in story form. Goddamn beautiful.
ReplyDeleteSo I look here and it seems the HLF is always the bad guys in these stories. What the fuck?! Personally, I would agree with them. Some aliens from another dimension comes along and takes away most of our population, takes money for it, and gets to benefit from our technology, yet give us pretty much nothing, I would fight them. I would HATE them!
ReplyDeleteAdding Celestia as a tyrant, that's a pretty good fanfic idea...
@DeRockProject
ReplyDeleteRight*Cracks Knuckles* Lets answer these
Human Liberation Front are against Ponification,and with most the stories involving the main character either entering the Ponification Process or protecting Pony's, this is normally the case.
ReplyDeleteI'll admit, it was the grammar/spelling errors and general failure of the author to proof-read their work and edit it appropriately that ultimately drove me away from it.
@psionicspy
ReplyDeleteThat story is going through some heavy revision right now. In terms of storyline it's not too bad, the idea is solid and interesting
@ScalierHat
ReplyDeleteWhat I don't like is that, it seems like the HLF is always viewed negatively, while ponies and ponification is always viewed positively.
@DeRockProject
ReplyDeleteViews both sides neutrally?
ReplyDeleteI won't ever forget this story. Bravo~
@Tricky Step
ReplyDeleteThat story can't get any better, rewrites and lots of harsh nitpicking on request of Windchaser made it the best it could be.
Holy crap, Sidelines has chapter 19 now! The post isn't updated here, so use the short link to all chapters on Gdocs (and save it): bit.ly/gwDk4c
ReplyDelete@Tricky Step
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for your high praise! If you read the story from the links here, then you had read the old version without revisions.
You can find the almost twice as long ideal version through here in Midnight's compilation doc: http://bit.ly/nGrRIz
@DeRockProject
ReplyDeleteActually there IS one where the HLF are the good guys, but I forget which one it is (derp).
