OK! I'LL SAY IT ONCE MORE! Wings are to be thought of as arms. Birds don't have arms, they have wings, but anatomically their wingbones are simular to arms of other mammals (birds evolved from reptiles, like many other beings, therefore an anatomic simularity). Now let's disregard that it's impossible for a being to have six extremities (two front legs, two hind legs and two wings in Rainbow Dash' case). If she'd strech her wings out, it'd be to her like it'd be to you streaching out your arms. I FEEL SMART NOW.
But, yes, last time I checked, wings DO have bones inside of them, eventhough they are hollow and make no biological and physical sense on a horse (since I'm guessing the rest of Rainbow Dash' skelleton doesn't have hollow bones).
Yes, but birds often flare their wings or other flashy feathers or appendages when they are attracted to something (or someone). In pegasus ponies, this manifests as them flaring their wings when they see or think of something they are attracted to. At least that's what I interpret it as. And we ignore the biological impossibility of six-apendaged critters because in-universe, they exist, no use whining about it.
@Sir Leadhead Exactly! A so-called "wing-boner" is flaring the wings in an attempt to attract a mate. It's just a reflex that sometimes happens uncontrollably. ^^
Not directly, but she's mentioned... and that's the reason for the Wingboner, lol.
My take on it (and it's supported by the artist's own comments on dA) is that Applejack mentioning that made Dash think about Pinkie (maybe about her in the dress she wore for that song, or maybe the circumstances in which Pinkie first called her "Dashie"), and voila! Instant Wingboner.
In conclusion, wingboners are absolutely retarded and it's the worst, most unfunny idea that ever crawled out of this fandom. All of you who actually find this funny should really re-evaluate your sense of humor, it is probably defective.

I believe that "Wingboner" is the single greatest gag that has come out of this or any other fandom.

ReplyDeleteIt was first used in this fan fic
http://www.equestriadaily.com/2011/01/story-make-me-better-botique.html
Which was made about a month prior to that comic.
>If I could MFW I know too much about the fandom I would.

I just wonder how anypony else would be saying "Dashie", now...
ReplyDelete@Anonymous
ReplyDeleteOh wow. Forgot about that one... Thanks for pointing it out!
Loved the heck outta this one.
ReplyDeleteThanks all! Seeing my comic here first thing in the morning makes my day!
ReplyDeleteI love it when we see wingboners on the actual show (like when pinkie appears to sing in Over a Barrel).
ReplyDeleteNow that was entertaining! I can see why Pinkie Pie would appeal to the Dash psyche, though - she's a fairly fearless pony.
ReplyDelete@Daffodil
ReplyDeleteSeriously? I always thought it was rather stupid.
Ohohoho Wingboner XD

ReplyDeleteI love it.

ReplyDelete1st: It's magic, we ain't gotta explain shit.
2nd: Applying logic or physics to PEGASI.
3rd: ???
4th: Profit
WIngboner powers, ACTIVATE!
ReplyDeleteYou people are weird. I love this cartoon.
ReplyDeleteNow I'm tempted to attempt a DashiePie fic.
It's unrealistic to have six appendages now? Or to have more than two legs in addition to wings?
ReplyDeleteI'll tell that to insects.
@Mario
ReplyDeleteInteresting, since Pinkie Pie doesn't even appear in this cartoon.
If pegasi were realistic, the world we live in would be a LOT more interesting!

Poor pegasi... fandom made your social life so much more awkward.
ReplyDeleteI laugh at your misfortune. I drink of your suffering! Bwahahahaha!!!

ReplyDeleteDashiiiiieeeee! <3 +D D'aw, poor Rainbow. xD >>' I have to admit to liking that nickname. Pretty sure I used it first, Pinkie. ;p
ReplyDeleteAnyway, lol @ wingboner. Clearly they are often a sign of shock, but I buy the fandom's "attraction" theory as well...
