Even if it's VG Cats... and even if most... well, half, of the CMC episodes end up being my least favorite... I just don't like looking at this kinda thing happening to them.
Notice Pinkie's cutie mark is missing. Scott updated the comic with it a few minutes ago. Other than that, its a fairly good comic and I'm enjoying seeing this fandom spread.
Ramsoomair has been watching MLP since November, if you rewind all two strips back to November (updated Mondays my ass), http://www.vgcats.com/comics/?strip_id=299 and the computer screen on the 3rd panel. Old news for old bronies, but since we got many new people..
Scott, you're the reason i took up art and your forum (RIP) was the place i first found a pony. I respect you as an artist but... GODDAMMNIT YOUR JOKES SUCK
Can we like set up some sort of truce not to disclose exactly how long you've been with the fandom aside from being "new"?
I mean I know you weren't meaning it this way but I can't think of anything that could kill this fandom faster than "well I was into it before it got all mainstream."
When I first saw the thumbnail for this comic, I had no idea who made it. Then I noticed the VGCats logo and went "Holy f***ing s***!" Though the comic isn't exactly amusing, I still like it for bring a VGC comic :D
Never really found VG Cats THAT funny, but I really lol'd at this, seems like they took forever to update, but they finally did, with PONY! And since you're uploading outside webcomics, or however you address them, are you gonna post fanboy's comics of MLP too?
I knew Scott liked ponies, he made a comment about my Twitter icon being Twilight precariously perched on the tub, but I didn't think he'd be anti-Cutie Lagann. Between the CMC and TTGL, they're both the same plot: keep trying, don't give-up, make your own destiny...
The comic isn't good, the joke is stupid and old (like the TF2 crates comic) and a kindergarten could have done better (look at Axe Cop if you don't believe me).
why are people hating on Scott for killing the CMC? i like them and i found this hilarious it's a joke, i'm sure he likes the characters too get over it
Speaking as somebody who isn't a fan of VG Cats, I think everybody should just lay off the more personal criticism of the artist instead of the art itself.
You might not find it funny, but he certainly didn't mean anything bad by it. I think there's a good argument to be made for the fact that this comic was done as an innocent joke, and nothing more.
That said - now i'm gonna have nightmares about the Pinkie Pie from the last panel. Thanks...
I'm bothered that Scott uses violence as a punchline in most, if not all, of his productions. I know that many web-comic artists do, but really, years upon years of that junk killed my interest for the site long ago.
Scott needs to understand that visual styles and parody subjects aren't the only opportunities for growth in the art form. New coats of paint every so often will do nothing for him if he refuses to explore other means of storytelling and humor. Also, a little originality won't hurt anyone.
Oh, and one last thing: a kid's show on a video-game web-comic? Oatmeal, are you crazy?
It's not the dark tone of the joke - I've definitely read and seen worse things done to the CMCs.
Look, the self-conscious nature of the show /already/ lends itself to comedy; therefore there is plenty to exploit if you want to be funny.
The joke is lazy and unimaginative - which is rather strange, considering he's been watching mlp for awhile.
What I'm saying is, I've had both "newbier" and less known comic artists do far better attempts. Sounds harsh, but yeah, maybe VGCats should stay dead - or at least steer clear of my ponies.
Although I must admit that I'm not too fond of the CMC (most probably because I'm not really patient with youth), I didn't get offended nor cheered by this, mainly because it sounds, dunno... Just as expected? I don't know that Scott guy, but he seems to be rather "manly" (if you got that) to like something that is named "Friendship is magic" to begin with. So no, he won't like naïve, young characters, just like most people who prefer some "action" - although, indeed, that episode of the flank tattoos, tough interesting, sounded rather corny, even more than the first two chapters of this series.
I'm not amused nor shocked by it. Since the CMC are not exactly bright (and I bet pony fans have got some HUGE trauma watching probably the G3.5 cartoon of MLP), I was expecting them to be a lot more unpopular. I mean, I like them, but if they did something other than being obssessed with their flank tattoos (and trying the most trivial and nonsensical things to gain them), they'd be more enjoyable characters. Even if they merely tried some more logical things to realize their talents, that would be a huge bonus.
Not a big fan of CMC and VGcats is usually pretty decent... but this comic sucked. It was generic "objects fall on something I don't like and kill/hurt them" stuff that you see in any cartoon/comic/whatever.
I didn't find it too bad. I guess I'm reveling in the joy of how manestream ponies have become, especially given most people who follow that comic are most likely not fans already, and may be converted.
I don't see anything wrong with it, different people have different humor styles, even if it's not to mine, or our, taste - then again, I don't go insane or assume the fetal position anytime I read cupcakes, either.
I just like the fact that he did a pony comic. The fact that it wasn't funny was a minor inconvenience to me. I haven't even looked at VG Cats for ages.
Thing is, there's not really a joke. There's violence against some characters that a good part of the fandom hates, and then a meme used as the punchline. It's not a joke so much as a cludged-together reference. I mean, if you've been to Ponychan, you've probably seen this exact same thing done in threads, and no one was going "rofl lol omg teh funneez".
The only punchline is "Hey, that new popular thing? Well I -know- about it! And I -know- about the memes connected to it! Aren't I clever and with it because I -know- stuff?"
I wouldn't have minded this so much if he'd left off the "how it SHOULD have ended" bit. It just makes the whole thing feel so much more... Arrogant? I don't know.
At any rate, violence, misunderstanding memes, being late to trends and over the top faces. Typical VG Cats.
@ Anon who posted at 7:19 Initially I was inclined to agree with you, and then I noticed in one of the earlier comments that there was a link to a much older comic with a mlp reference. I actually think Scott was a brony for some time.
Pretty much nailed it. Theres nothing particularly funny.
Stuff falls on 'x' and kills 'x'. Its just like watching Wile E Coyote on Loony Tunes... see an anvil fall on him a few times and then it just isn't funny anymore. Thats exactly whats happening in this comic but with different objects and characters. Its just too cliche...
I agree. Killing off these characters like that is tasteless and disgusting! Incidentally, I just saw, on Youtube, the song performance "The Wall" from The Chipmunks, and I thought of the Cutie Mark Crusaders, imagining them in a future episode or fanfic or fancomic as the rock group from "The Show Stoppers" they were, singing that song (or something very similar) for peace in Equestria, in front of Equestria's version of the "Berlin Wall", and it comes crashing down. (But NOT on the Cutie Mark Crusaders!!)
...On second thought, come to think of it, maybe I can't quite imagine the Cutie Mark Crusaders singing such powerful, emotion driven, political, world peace promoting rock music like that. But you never know.
I think it's pretty funny how butthurt people are getting over a silly comic about three annoying characters. A comic which is actually at the height of their annoyance levels, and treats them in the manner in which some of us actually wanted that terrible scene to end. The only good thing the CMC brought to this show was E23 when we got to see the main six as little fillies getting their cutie marks.
would have been cool to think scott was a brony, i know it wasnt done by him cause the number...BUT on his latest comic (292) on the background of the computer is rainbow dash
This got me interested into ponies. Also, why is everyone so butthurt? It seems that people don't have a problem with something or someone... until it makes fun of the fanbase that they like.

Oh god, that is so VGcats. Not in a good way, or a bad way. It just is. And in a way it is glorious.
ReplyDelete....
ReplyDeletethats just bad anyway i look at it, in a bad non funny way.
Holy Narf. That comic updates now?!
ReplyDeleteI lol'd... A lot...
ReplyDeleteFeels bad but LOL.
Ahahaha, lol'd.
ReplyDeleteI felt bad... like really bad... like kind of sad... then I remembered this was VGcats and I lol'd
ReplyDeleteI love the CMC... Mixed feeling overload >_<
ReplyDeleteThis is great. Still, I love the CMC in all of their appearances; they are adorable and I feel no shame.
ReplyDeleteHoly fuck.
ReplyDeleteVGcats updates for the first time in what feels like years and it's a pony comic.
Today is a good day.
I laughed, then I actually felt bad for doing so. Also, Pinkie's face scares me
ReplyDeleteIf you look at the news blog, VGcats actually links back here to Equestria Daily.
ReplyDeleteo_O i felt really bad for the CMC... but Pinkie made me lol
ReplyDeleteI never cared for VG Cats at all, and this didn't help.
ReplyDeleteand vgcats ruin another thing. there parodys ruin everything
ReplyDeleteEven if it's VG Cats... and even if most... well, half, of the CMC episodes end up being my least favorite... I just don't like looking at this kinda thing happening to them.
ReplyDeleteDamn you draw ponies well, Scoot I demand moar from you, now!
ReplyDeletePinkie Pie's face at the end is scary. D:
ReplyDelete& I hated the CMC at first but now I like them more than some of the mane cast and this makes me feel bad.
As late as usual.
ReplyDeleteI didn't find this very amusing, though the art was good.
ReplyDeletePerhaps it's because I love the CMC. Apple Bloom is my all-time favorite character.
Wow VGcats updated with ponies.
ReplyDelete>see a terrible joke
Nevermind. VGcats should stay dead.
Sweet Celestia, even Scotty made a pony comic.
ReplyDelete...Wait a second, is that an update?
WINNING
ReplyDeleteThe comics kinda meh, but the fact that MLP spread to VG cats is hilarious.
ReplyDeleteNotice Pinkie's cutie mark is missing. Scott updated the comic with it a few minutes ago. Other than that, its a fairly good comic and I'm enjoying seeing this fandom spread.
ReplyDeleteSweet Celestia, Scott! What's your problem with the Crusaders? And why is Pinkie making a Cupcakes face at me? I need an adulllllllt!

ReplyDeleteThis pretty much shifted my opinion of VGC from "What's VG Cats? OH! Hey, the porn of it was good" to "No, thanks! Not for me."
ReplyDeleteScott was a brony before being a brony was cool.
ReplyDeletehttp://www.vgcats.com/comics/?strip_id=299
Look at the computer screen. When you see it.....

@Jagged
ReplyDeleteGAH stupid iPad, always inputing the wrong letters D:<
@Anonymous You realize, being a pony was cool before he finished that comic.
ReplyDeleteThe comic isn't good, the joke is stupid and old (like the TF2 crates comic) and a kindergarten could have done better (look at Axe Cop if you don't believe me).
ReplyDelete@Anonymous
ReplyDeleteI was a brony before Scott was.
Regarding the comic: I find it to be in rather poor taste. Might as well have made a joke about child abuse, because that's how funny that is.
donotwantbutalreadyhas.jpg
ReplyDeletePeople here really can't take a joke. :/
ReplyDeleteIt looks like CMC have grown on a lot of other people too!
ReplyDelete3 weeks ago this would have been 100% positive ;p
Stupid cutie mark chronicles and 300 remixes of their crusading theme!
Am I missing the joke? That wasn't very funny...
ReplyDeleteVG hasn't been funny for a long time.
ReplyDeleteand then you realized the bad impression you formed about the CMC was just based on other people's bad opinions, not your own.
ReplyDeleteI also have to add that this isn't really funny, then again, VGCats stopped being funny a long time ago.
ReplyDeleteOut of all the characters they choose to do he picks the youngest ones. :/
ReplyDeletei didn't like it.
ReplyDeletewhy are people hating on Scott for killing the CMC?
ReplyDeletei like them and i found this hilarious
it's a joke, i'm sure he likes the characters too
get over it

Go back to pokemon. "Super effective" was okay.
I lol'd, but poor CMC, they need more love (I like them).
ReplyDeleteAnyway, VG Cats? Woohoo.
Yeah, the CMC have grown on me too, to an extent... Especially Scoot in the latest episode when everypony was getting just a bit TOO lovey-dovey.
ReplyDeleteGood Gracious...that....that face
ReplyDeleteI'm terrified o.o
lol'd hard
ReplyDelete@Anonymous But how can I take something that doesn't exist in the comic?
ReplyDeleteI've always liked the CMC even when others were ragging on them and I found this hilarious.
ReplyDeleteI thought it was freakin' hilarious, what's wrong with a little macabre humor?
ReplyDeleteonly a idiot can laug at this
ReplyDeleteTHANK YOU, BASED SCOTT FOR THIS MASTERPIECE.
ReplyDeleteI couldn't help but guffaw the first time I saw this.
ReplyDeleteAlthough I must admit that I'm not too fond of the CMC (most probably because I'm not really patient with youth), I didn't get offended nor cheered by this, mainly because it sounds, dunno... Just as expected?

Two of my favorite things collide.
ReplyDeleteThe world is just great.
O_O
ReplyDeleteD=
ReplyDeleteThis actually kindda scared me.
It's not so much that Scott killed the CMC.
ReplyDeleteIt's that he's no longer funny. Seriously. There's no punchline.
Damn, Scott. Step up your game.
ReplyDeleteRight, yes, Scott, show how proud a fan you are by violently murdering characters that mildly annoy you. THAT'S keeping in the spirit of the show!
ReplyDeleteIdiot.
Dead children, so funny... hahaha... :|
ReplyDeleteI for one can take a joke and loved this comic. I also love the CMC. I also love Cupcakes. My world is a tangled web of twisted tastes.
ReplyDeleteI can handle dark humor and all, but this sort of joke doesn't really fit well with the content.
ReplyDeleteNot a big fan of CMC and VGcats is usually pretty decent... but this comic sucked. It was generic "objects fall on something I don't like and kill/hurt them" stuff that you see in any cartoon/comic/whatever.
ReplyDelete*clears throat*
ReplyDeleteFFFFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU-
*looks for some C-4 to blow up bad comic making people*
That didn't make me laugh.
ReplyDelete...That made me sad.
It's not like when Madmax kills a pony with love in her heart.
crap!
ReplyDeleteI refuse to save this into my pony folder.
ReplyDelete(Note: I save everything. There's a reason why I have 4000 files in it.)
I didn't find it too bad. I guess I'm reveling in the joy of how manestream ponies have become, especially given most people who follow that comic are most likely not fans already, and may be converted.

Funny, but why all the Crusader hate?
ReplyDeletewow, lots of butthurt here
ReplyDeleteAlso, just adding:
ReplyDeleteThe 'for-eveeeer' was meant to be taken from 'green isn't your colour', but just them dying for the sake of it.
@Anonymous

*sigh* if only they would have stopped looking for their stupid cutiemarks long enough to do something else. my responce to this: It Finally happened?
ReplyDelete@Anonymous
ReplyDeleteMeme in the punchline? I'm not seeing it. Seems more like a reference from the show. Maybe you need to step away from the internet for a bit.
@Anonymous
ReplyDeleteI thought it was funny. Do I need a monocle and top hat to enjoy humor now?
FOREVEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEER
ReplyDelete@Anonymous
ReplyDeleteMaybe you need to step away from Scott's buttocks a bit.
@Anonymous
ReplyDeleteAh, can't defend your point so you attack me. Neato.
Okay, that is the worst comic ever. Didn't you hear comics are supposed to be funny!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteThat's just discusting... I can't belive someone would do that. NOT FUNNY. I can't belive anyone could think this is funny in the slightist
Is it just me or did they remove the comic from their site?
ReplyDeleteBitch got cold feet it seems. Comic replaced.
ReplyDeleteI agree. Killing off these characters like that is tasteless and disgusting!

ReplyDeleteScott took the comic down. Damned Pansy.
Kind of unforgivable that they deleted this comic for a stupid "poke fun at sony like EVERYONE else"-comic.
ReplyDeleteDoes anyone know WHY the comic was pulled?
ReplyDeleteDid a bunch of bronies with no sense of humor bitch about killing the CMC?
There's gotta be a story behind this...
Well, they were kids. I think that's where most people pissed about it were coming from.
ReplyDeleteBut honestly, I think it's better this way. Their songs suck ass.
Holy clop that face in the last panel reminds me of http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/f/f5/Tubthumper.jpg !
ReplyDeleteClop, that always used to scare me when I was four and my dad had that album.
I love MLP: FiM and I don't have anything against the Cutie Mark Crusaders...but when I saw this comic I lol'd.
ReplyDeleteFuck this and the author...seriously...
ReplyDeletewould have been cool to think scott was a brony, i know it wasnt done by him cause the number...BUT on his latest comic (292) on the background of the computer is rainbow dash
ReplyDeleteJust plain wrong.
ReplyDeleteThis got me interested into ponies. Also, why is everyone so butthurt? It seems that people don't have a problem with something or someone... until it makes fun of the fanbase that they like.

ReplyDeleteI'm sorry, but ... you should have third-guessed posting this. Then fourth-guessed it, then thrown it in the trash.
ReplyDeleteWell...VG Cats, I have another meme for you:
ReplyDeleteSON, I AM DISSAPOINT.
Umm this isn't right the comic here says 290 yet there is a different comic with that number and this one isn't and I doubt it ever was on the site because I never saw it up there and this is during the time I visited VGCats regularly
ReplyDeleteI don't know why everyone's saying this is a bad joke.
ReplyDeleteIt's not a joke.
@Leo Roivas It was, but he took it down because he didn't like how it "turned out".
ReplyDeleteYeah, VGcats, I feel, has a very polarizing sense of humor.
ReplyDeleteI don't think it was vg cats I didn't find it on the website unless there is another one out there made by scott.
ReplyDelete
