• A Brony's Fight Against Cancer

Another Epic story is unfolding over on ponychan, similiar to the last one. This time it's a battle with cancer, and so far it appears to be going really well for him. He just got out of surgery two days ago, and things are looking up!

You can find the thread below, its definitely an inspirational read.

    Battling Cancer

    1. Oh look another person on ponychan looking for pity and attention, what a surprise!

      VastaKustuta
    2. I hope he gets better soon he will be in my thoughts. Also in reply to anon it costs nothing but a little time and effort to post a comment to support someone in need please don't be arrogant

      VastaKustuta
    3. When it comes to ponychan you can only be arrogant.

      VastaKustuta
    4. AngryAnon is angry.

      VastaKustuta
    5. This guy has a pretty sweet life and cancer actually is curable so...

      Don't care.

Also, I lol'd at lung candy.

      VastaKustuta
    6. @MizuTakishima
He does if you read the whole thread.

      VastaKustuta
    7. lol@anons being pessimistic about someone who has Cancer.

I know this is the internet and all, but it's guys like you that make me hate this fandom. No offense.

      VastaKustuta
    8. Cool story bro. No seriously, I hope he gets better.

Also, I find it funny how, after all the misuse of the word "cancer," they feel a need to filter it. It must never have dawned on them that cancer is in fact a real disease. But I digress.

      VastaKustuta
    9. i'm all for the poor chap's getting well, but i can't help but wonder how many posters will be banned in this thread

      VastaKustuta
    10. Wow, ponies really are chemo!

Now seriously, I hope this guy gets better. Scratch that. I know this guy will get better.

Against the power of ponies there can be no victory! Mark my words, cancer!

      VastaKustuta

      >t must never have dawned on them that cancer is in fact a real disease

I'm not surprised, ponychan is full of hypocrites after all.

      VastaKustuta
    12. Cancer is weak, ponies are strong. That is all that needs to be said.

      VastaKustuta
    13. The power of Friendship compels you?

I'm sorry; it is Easter, after all.

      VastaKustuta
    14. Cancer only wins if it stops you enjoying what life you have left. If the sympathy, wellwishings and ponies from the forum are bringing any degree of happiness into his life, then they are helping him beat it.

      And that's marvelous :).

      VastaKustuta
    15. @Anonymous

You are right it is the internet after all, I'm absolutely sure he will be magically cured in a few weeks, so you can all feel so good about it.

      VastaKustuta
    16. did ponies just kill cancer? seriously?

thats a whole new level of friendship.

btw please dont hate on those people looking for support for their problems on ponychan, they probably dont have a lot of other places to go. real friends are hard to come by.

      VastaKustuta
    17. @Anonymous

He said he had some of the best friends a guy could ask for yet you are saying that REAL friends are hard to come by?

      VastaKustuta
    18. @Anonymous

This fanbase is doomed once the season ends...

      VastaKustuta
    19. >they probably dont have a lot of other places to go.

Psychologists exist for a reason, they would provide them better help than a bunch of strangers on the internet who just coddle them instead of giving them actual useful advice. Then again they don't want real help because that would require them taking an effort to improve, complaining on the internet is much easier.

      >real friends are hard to come by

No they are not, unless you are a bitter anti-social nerd who blames society/humanity/whatever for all of your problems.

      VastaKustuta
    20. you may need to differentiate between irl cancer and internet cancer. It's a little confusing telling when you are speaking English or chanese.

      VastaKustuta
    21. @Anonymous

On the internet there's no difference between the two.

      VastaKustuta
    22. @Anonymous

What? Most Psychologists are just after your money. no offense if anyone here happens to be one.

And yes, REAL friends ARE hard to come by. Seems to me like someone else is the bitter anti-social nerd by saying what you did.

      VastaKustuta
    23. All the negative comments here are quite distressing. That kind of behavior may be deemed suitable for the rest of the internet, but we Bronies respect and support another. I'd appreciate if y'all could start abiding by the saying "if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all". Let's keep this fandom in its pure, miraculous state.

      VastaKustuta
    24. @Jebin Zedalu We have long passed the point of "purity" (whatever that even means)
But I do agree these comments are not what I'd expect, I'd have not left one if it weren't for this response.

      VastaKustuta
    25. cancer, if anything ever is, is srs bsns. it's entirely possible to whore yourself out for sympathy with any issue, be it a disease, a life-changing decision, some mishap or occurence...and then there's the simple fact that talking about it helps.

for someone to say "STFU because somebody else has a worse life than you" is mind-numbingly stupid.

if talking to ponies and colts or bronies helps said person, then STFU and don't read it if you're flankhurt because you can't clop to it.

      VastaKustuta
    26. I spies trollz... or are those parasprites I see?

That outta way, hopefully TheSurvivalist (as he calls himself now) recovers well. Nothing like support to help a fellow anon over the webs, and when that support's coupled with ponies you get double rainbows!

      ~onery

      VastaKustuta
    27. @Jebin Zedalu

This mindset is the reason why people on ponychan alienate everyone around them. it basically boils down to this:

"We are perfect, everyone else is at fault, we are mad at the world because it doesn't work the way we want to, now pity us."

      VastaKustuta
    28. @Anonymous

Pft, hardly! The beauty of it is that Bronies generally admit their mistakes.

But many of the negative posters (mostly posting anonymously, leading me to believe they're just trolls) aren't even TRYING to be decent. That's the problem.

      VastaKustuta
    29. He will win. I know that.

      VastaKustuta
    30. http://www.ponychan.net/chan/oat/src/130318215587.jpg

This is about the most inspirational and amazing thing I've seen on the internet in a long time. I hope is recovery goes well.

      VastaKustuta
    31. There seems to be a lot more negativity on the blog today than usual. One of the reasons I participate in the community and follow it so strongly is that everyone is usually pretty positive and kind to one another. Even when there is a disagreement it is resolved in a quick and calm manner.

I know people can be cynical about stories like this because you don't know the intentions of the person on the other end, but I don't think it calls for people calling the poster an attention seeker and what not. If it is a false story we will more than likely never find that out and life will go on and if it is true we helped brighten someones day by listening to them get something off their chest.

      VastaKustuta
    32. wtf is with all the sudden hate for ponychan in these post?

      >We are perfect, everyone else is at fault, we are mad at the world because it doesn't work the way we want to, now pity us.

have I been looking at a different ponychan because I know that's not what its like.

seriously the dude has cancer he wants to talk about it because he is scared whats wrong with that?

      VastaKustuta
    33. @Anonymous

This. For example, I don't usually post in sad threads because I suck at cheering up other people. But that doesn't mean I'm going to insult them or anything like that.

      VastaKustuta
    34. @Anonymous
      >I want to thank all you bronies out there that took to the time to read my story and kept up with my updates along the way. Even if I haven't met any of you, it really meant a lot to have a whole community behind me during this ordeal. Words cannot describe how grateful I am for every single one of you. I'm literally, speechless.

so yeah explain why he should have spent money on "real help" when this had such an impact
psychologist wouldn't have done any more for him than possibly cheer him up for a price
the end result here is the same
      he made it
      hes grateful
how is any of this a bad thin?

      VastaKustuta
    35. Bronies love and support one another, even others who aren't bronies (just look at the auction held for Japan's relief fund). I think we rither have some bronies with a skewed perspective, or parasprites.

Anyway, I think it's a wonderful story. The fact he was able to make it through with the support of the bronyhood truly shows how strong our love and tolerance is.

      VastaKustuta
    36. This was heartwarming.

Someone let Faust know her show makes people support cancer patients and gather lots of money for the japan relief effort.

Friendship -is- magic. Even Anonymous Friendship.

      VastaKustuta
    37. @Jebin Zedalu

      This.

FiM isn't only 22 minutes a week of fun and games (although it is that too). There's some real lessons to be learned from it, one of which is tolerance.

Nopony is denying/oblivious to the fact that the world can be a pretty crappy place, and that certain people will want to exploit the sincerity and compassion of others for momentary attention. This isn't something that we constantly need to be reminded of.

Yes, those ponies who are so bored or so lonely that they resort to pandering for pity should be ashamed of themselves. But the fact remains, everypony deserves at least the "benefit of the doubt".

      VastaKustuta
    38. The hate in many comments here are likely by anti-pony types who just can't stand seeing people who aren't as sad and cynical as they are. We need to realize that, and ignore them. These people just want us to sink down to their level of wretchedness (back down to, in some of our cases). Don't let them. They have their hate and we have ponies. We win.

And on topic, here's hoping this Brony makes a fast and complete recovery.

      VastaKustuta
    39. Wow, I can't believe my thread ended up on ED. I understand why there is anon hate, because like I stated with my very first post, I hate pity parties. I'd like to think this thread became a way for a community to empower me, and hopefully give hope to others. Regardless of skepticism, I'm just glad I'm on my way to recovery. Thanks everypony.

      VastaKustuta
    40. Seriously? There is a 'wiki' for "Bronies"??

    42. My best wishes to the Survivalist! I'm glad the surgery went well, and I sincerely hope that it succeeded in stopping the cancer permanently.

    43. "The stories and information posted here are artistic works of fiction and falsehood.
Only a fool would take anything posted here as fact."

Funnily enough, it works well enough for the rest of the internet too.

Yes, rarely the stories are true. I recall coming back to a forum after many years, and having to read through a story of an someone I used to know slowly dying of spinal cancer. That stuff just tears you up inside.

But then you get the people who fake their deaths on deviantart or wherever in an attempt to garner attention. Heck, someone in my old WoW guild once posed as a family member informing us of his death in a car crash. So he could sell his account (and the items we'd given him).

People being terrible is one the few things you can rely on in this world.

      VastaKustuta
    44. I'm getting sick of this shit.

It's a fucking cartoon. It's funny, it's interesting, great. But the fact remains that it is a fucking CARTOON.

This "BRONY 4EVUR <3<3<3<3" shit is so very annoying. You people clearly are sheltered. Yes, I like the cartoon, but this fandom is fucking pathetic.

      VastaKustuta
    45. @Anonymous
It's probably more to do with the fact that sob-stories are apparently a good way to get the attention of Lauren Faust.

She still has a heart, unlike so many of us.

      VastaKustuta
    46. Was SO worth my time to read. I had tears in my eyes with the epic post the one brony posted near the top. So glad he pulled through

      VastaKustuta
    47. Why are people here so sour?...

Anyway, I'm so glad he's okay! But I'm a bit bothered by this comments page...

      VastaKustuta
    48. @Anonymous
      What's wrong with being sour?

      VastaKustuta
    49. I see lots of people here could stand to learn some life lessons from the messages of the show.

      VastaKustuta
    50. @Anonymous
The new My Little Pony series is great and all, but really, it's just a cartoon.

Trying to ascribe a deeper meaning to it, or using it as a crutch for your problems just strikes me as a bit weird.

      VastaKustuta
    51. @Anonymous
Dude, calm down. Why does it mean so much to you? Like with anything you can choose to ignore it and besides why does giving support to someone within the community mean people are sheltered?

You're free to express your opinions, but people will take you more seriously if you approach things that bug you in a calm and rational manner.

      VastaKustuta
    52. @Anonymous
I guess it's just the fanbase moving away from "this is a good cartoon" to "this cartoon speaks to me on a spiritual level and helps fill the void in my life".

Yeah it's a great show. But that doesn't mean everyone has to mindlessly agree and get along.

      VastaKustuta
    53. No.

We're all doing it wrong. There's only 1 correct response to a newfoal that can't handle the joy of that beautiful thread:

      DEAR BUTTHURT BRONIE,

I'M GONNA TOLERATE & LOVE THE SHIT OUT OF YOU.

      VastaKustuta
    54. Why is there so much hate here? If you don't like it, don't comment on it.

      VastaKustuta
    55. @Anonymous

      >Complaining about peoples obsession with a cartoon, on a website devoted to obsessing about a cartoon.

Well it seems like the proper solution to your problem would be to leave her and never return!

      VastaKustuta
    56. @Anonymous
I can see what you mean, but I don't think it's something that is uncommon across fandoms. People can draw inspiration from all sorts of sources so I don't find it all that odd in my opinion. In the end if it helps someone overcome a problem in their life then I'm all for it.

I would like to thank you for replying with a calm and levelheaded response. It made it easier to understand your particular griefs with the fandom. All I can say is just roll with it if it bugs you and enjoy the parts of the fandom that appeal to you.

      VastaKustuta
    57. Ugh, at risk of being 'that guy', I would stake, my entire future career on this guy being a liar. Medically there is absolutely zero chance of someone his age developing cancer.

This kind of pandering cheapens the entire brony community.

Ugh, at risk of being 'that guy', I would stake, my entire future career on this guy being a liar. Medically there is absolutely zero chance of someone his age developing cancer.

I was diagnosed with Non-hodgkins Lymphoma at the age of 21... there are children as young as 6 who suffer various cancers all over the world... And children had developed tumors in or on their brains, livers, lungs and lymphonoids.

Either you really never paid attention at all or your just being callous. The "lack of evidence" doesn't disprove something. I would've ignored your comment however the fact you made such a bold claim that no one within his age group could develop cancer honestly upset me.

BTW here is the facts about Cancer... I suggest if your going in the medical field as your future you start reading.

(Really read on to page 2 as it is more relevant to what happened to the person in question)

Enjoy the reading, and think twice before you say something like that otherwise you will be sticking your foot in your mouth or in the case of bronies a hoof.
