Got some good stories here but...I think I'm going to vote for The April Fool's Day Festival; not only does it has our beloved Derpy, but it just has a nice, happy ending that makes me smile.
ReplyDelete*notices that the shipping story is leading in the polls*
FFFFFFUUUUUUUUUU-
@Batty Gloom Did you read Mushy Stuff? One of the characters being shipped isn't even in the fic. If that helps to make it feel any better...
ReplyDeleteO_O
ReplyDeleteI... wait. What are you supposed to do with the pickle?! OH CELESTIA there are so many images in my head now and none of them are pleasant!!
@Anonymous
ReplyDeleteYeah, I did. And while I do respect everyone who participated in the contest, I just didn't think it was written as well as some of the other stories, that is all.
Wow, um, yeah, number 1 leading is not right if you ask me, and I really liked Porcelain Secrets.
ReplyDeleteHell, I liked Fortress of Time, and I HATE Grimdark stuff, it was easily better than Mushy Stuff.
But, I have to give it to the last one, if only because it made me laugh more than the others did, Rarity twisted the 20% cooler bit and then also Rick rolled Dash.
i went with "april is the foolest month." just a really cute little story.
ReplyDeleteYou gave her SCUMBLE?!?!
ReplyDeleteVoting for "April is he foolest month".
ReplyDeleteThe 20% cooler and Rick roll just made my day...
(Floats in from out of the mist)
ReplyDeleteYou won't know until it's too late, my vote.
(Floats back into the mist)
Also, so many Photo Finish pictures without her being in any of the fics makes me sad. She is the best fashion pony.
ReplyDeleteAitFM got my vote. Rarity was all sorts of awesome and Twilight getting Rarified was the best
I went with "April is the Foolest Month" if only for the pun.
ReplyDeleteLike Batty, I don't understand why Mushy Stuff is winning. I'm sorry to have to say so, but it really wasn't particularly clever or well written. And AJ comes off as rather creepy to boot.
ReplyDeleteTotally voting for Foolest.
Aww, well thank you all for the kind words!
ReplyDeleteYeah, the scumble thing... that's been bouncing around in my head for a while now, this story was just the right place to use it! It's so obviously an Apple family product. I tried to make sure the gag didn't depend on being aware of Discworld.
I was really unsure about including the rickroll joke -- the 20% thing is an in-universe gag, but rickrolling isn't, so I wasn't sure if I wanted to include it or not. From the comments I guess it works even so!
Why so many haters? =/
ReplyDeleteIf you think it isn't well written, please tell me WHY and give me some examples so that I can keep it in mind when I write other things.
Don't whine TOO loud; you won the bracket!
ReplyDeleteI didn't think it would be polite to say anything while the poll was open, but here's my thought:
I felt like Mushy Stuff was just mean-spirited. A prank is a prank, but AJ came off as cruel.
Secondarily, I liked the original story and as a sequel this fails by essentially teaching Bloom the same lesson as the first outing. Only meaner.
And then there's that last line. It's kind of funny but kind of icky since I can't imagine any possibilities that don't come off as assault or worse. So we're back at that mean-spirited thing.
My general reaction to this story was a sort of uncomfortable laugh and the desire to move on quickly.
@Escher Point taken, but in the end I don't think I would change anything that direction. I was trying to portray how a lot of older siblings mess with their younger ones and I think I did a pretty good job. Siblings can be mean.
ReplyDeleteThe message was different from the one in Porcelain Secrets too. Porcelain Secrets had the message of being honest with yourself and your feelings. Mushy Stuff had the message of "Don't dive into relationships you're not ready for."
And honestly, not even I know what happened with the pickle. It may be as innocent as throwing it at him when he laughed at her and it stuck to his spikes. Or got pickle juice in his eyes. Or something. That bit is really up to the reader's interpretation.
Regardless, thanks for the feedback.
