An incredibly beautiful story. I didn't like the ending as much as the bulk of the work, and I think it works better as the introduction to an epic rather than a self-contained short story. Will there be more?
ReplyDeleteI very much hope so.
"Dream Quest of Unknown Canterlot"! Nicely done!
ReplyDeleteI'm impressed. This is one of the better fanfics I've read for any setting. I'm highly intrigued about what's going on with the gate and the sister's father and whatever those three beings were. I hope there's more to come.
ReplyDeleteThis was nice, had a good chuckle at "how long were you going to leave those 2 hiding behind the shrubbery" line. Bushes, not very effective hiding spots from living gods.
ReplyDeleteI find strange, seeing the quality of the work, that the story only has 3-3.5 stars ? Must be some bad anon. voting...
ReplyDeleteIt was a very nice story. Quite deep of meaning, especially as it involved higher beings than the Princesses (which, when we think about it, is something normal considering other pantheons) and the silent treath from 'beyong the door'.
Yes, deep and interesting, most surely.
I can count the number of fics I really want to be updated on one hand. Really is a high-water mark for normal fiction on this blog. I really hope you continue this.
ReplyDeleteThis is some high quality stuff here. Looking forward to more by this author.
ReplyDeleteWho did that illustration? WOW!

SPOILERS:
ReplyDeleteI want to give this five stars so badly... but the last paragraph ruins the whole fic for me. The writing is fantastic, the story is amazing... but the whole "AND EVERYONE FORGOT EVERYTHING" element just kills it.
That being said, I still loved the journey beyond the gate for Twilight and Spike. Felt very LotR/Narnian-esque.

ReplyDeleteAh! Read the title in your browser. DERP!
Random passerby: if you're wondering if you should take the time to read this... the answer is yes. This author's vision of Celestia and Luna is really very interesting and gave rise to a variety of emotions.
ReplyDeleteWhen I've just finished the climax of a good novel I get this desperate, "Oh no, it's about to end... does it have to?!" feeling while I read the last few pages. This was the first fanfic I've ever read that gave me the same feeling.
Now this was a really enjoyable read. I grooved on the writing style and the story told as well. If this is one of two stories by the same author I look forward to the second!
ReplyDeleteThe end is kinda... Off?
ReplyDeleteHowever, as the intro to an implied epic, this is easily 5 star work. I'd like to see if Twilight remembers on her own, subconsciously, or if the story would just pick up on it's own in the future, but I know I'd love to see more.
wooh, there are a lot of big words in this. some of which i did not know, but that only added to the epicness of this story. five stars
ReplyDeleteThat part with Spike was powerful and beautiful, a true bro.
ReplyDeleteGreat story, but what is the name of the 2nd that is mentioned in Trixie's intro?
ReplyDeleteHeh heh, those lights need a lesson in psychology!
ReplyDeleteI have no problem with the ending except the forgetting part. Forgetting is to fail to learn anything. This is fantastic fiction. It seems to fit the characters.
ReplyDeleteI feel like Trixie wasnt necessary however. I like her in the story. I always like the beat-down Trixie encounters. But I think she should have made an appearance in the end.
Did anyone else hear "in the hall of the mountain king" start playing as they read the title to this?
ReplyDeleteI thank you, sir, for this amazing work of fanfic art. Wonderfully done. Can't wait to see if this goes anywhere else.
ReplyDeleteYou know, I've read most of your other works, but for me, this piece is the one that most left me wanting more. Totally agree it seems to be the opening scene of some grand epic, that has tragically been left unfinished.
ReplyDeleteGreat, continue, let's see more
