Friendship is Magic has grown exponentially since I started this blog back in January. A lot of the really old content here was pretty much ignored. People didn't use the comments section, and the star rating didn't even exist.
Every week, I will take recommendations for old stories that have 2 things in common...
1.) They must be at least 2 Weeks Old
2.) They must have fewer than 10 Star Ratings
Recommendations will be gathered in a post similiar to this, and fall into 3 categories...
Normal
Shipping
Grimdark/Sad/Crossover/Random
Two stories from each section will be chosen via poll from the pool of entries and given a second chance at life via a new blog post highlighting them at the top of the blog over night. (Or late night--> noon on my awesome sleep schedule)
I will probably modify this as time goes on, but for now lets see how it plays out.

Loyalty's the first in the Severing series. Also, you agreed to put Equestrian Revolution in the grimdark category, but you forgot it. Oh well, maybe next time.

ReplyDeleteErr crap, guess I was referencing one of the older posts on accident while rushing to post this and explain it.
Next time for sure.
Heh, I was just thinking about all the forgotten early stories here.
ReplyDeleteBut doesn't the fact that you are advertising them in a poll and in this post draw a spotlight to them as it is?
ReplyDelete@Nathan
ReplyDeleteA blog post would attract even more attention than a poll.
Either way, old stories get more attention.
@Nathan
ReplyDeleteYah, and I referenced that too ;p
I just want old stuff to get a second chance is all.
Also fixed the grimdark poll. I thought the dude meant a seperate story called loyalty, not loyalty the severing piece.
Well this certainly is a great way to reintoduce old stories. I like this idea. I look forward to seeing how this ends out, though it kindda looks like we can esily make predictions of the winners.
ReplyDeleteOh well. This looks like its going to be fun.
i hope one day see some real archeology going, with stories not from this year at least
ReplyDeletec'mon, more votes for 'The Make Me Better Boutique'
ReplyDeleteThat story was what made me a PinkieDash shipper.
@Anonymous
ReplyDeleteI agree completely!
PinkieDash FTW!
@Anonymous
ReplyDeleteYes plz :3
@Sethisto
ReplyDeleteYes! I adore that story!
Wait, so where are these stories posted and how do we vote?
ReplyDeleteI like how the Shipping category got more total votes than either of the other story types. Clearly my earlier comments about a rampant "anti ship" sentiment were out of line. *laughs*
ReplyDeleteBAH! Polls closed as I was reading "One Problem Child"
ReplyDeleteWhich was awesome, btw.
How long was the poll open for? I check several times a day (for story updates) but somehow missed them (or knew anything about the event). Consarnit!
ReplyDeleteAlso, if you have the blog link to "Life Goes On" please pass it along. It's not in the story archive and the search tool doesn't help. I don't want to leave anyone out.
Oh, and it seems one pony found the graph of characters versus story types that I added to the listing. Guess who is in the most 'ship stories by far? :D
wow I didn't noticed the star rating! 0_)

It was renamed And Life Goes on.
Probably Dash? Everypony ships dash.
This should definitely be done over the course of several days. Allow entries to be submitted throughout the week, choose one day for people to vote, and then announce the week's choices the next day.

I'm sorry, but how is this different from that awards thing the other guy wanted to set up?
@Sethisto
ReplyDeleteThanks. It will show up at the next update with the new name and the old name noted. There were also some corrections from stuff I saw in the poll.
For Rainbow Dash you nailed it! Twilight Sparkle is a distant second. Now, it only shows which characters are listed in 'shipping (etc.) stories so she may not be a love interest in all of them.
But she probably is. :D
@Fairy Slayer
ReplyDeleteHave you set up analytics on the archiver yet?
I still get a ton of people going/coming from that daily.
@Anonymous
ReplyDeleteIt's more about resurrecting old stories than who is best. Maybe winning was a bad word to use.
I think eventually the majority of the stories will get a shot.
@Sethisto
ReplyDeleteThe story table has a primitive counter: it gets 60-80 hits per day, and only 40 people have used it more than three times in the past two weeks. The "last updated" field may draw more users now. Ranking hits by story, author, labels, etc. is easier from the blog itself, as far as I can tell. It would still be awesome if someone could help integrate the table into the blog.
Anyway, between this and writing reviews I'm way behind on posting my latest pony story — which, ironically, is a teeny bit too hardcore to be mentioned here.
C'est la vie!
@Fairy Slayer
ReplyDeleteHardcore as in pr0n or hardcore as in gory?
@Sethisto
ReplyDeleteThere's some violence but most of that is fairly muted (and it's nowhere near "Cupcakes" on the gore scale). However there is one explicit sexual element that crosses the line. It's such a tiny bit really, but after racking my brains for over a week I still can't figure out how to change that without breaking the whole thing. I've already held the story for a few weeks yet I'm still procrastinating in hopes of coming up with a cleaner solution.
I'll just link it on the boards once it's up, and I can send you the link too if you want. AFFn allows anonymous reviews so everypony can still tell me how bad it is. ;)
id like to cast my vote to hand me downs, normal category
ReplyDeleteEh just send it and I'll see what's in it.
ReplyDelete@Daffodil
ReplyDeleteThanks a lot for the comment! I'm glad I clicked through here, otherwise I might have missed the praise.
