Sorry about the constant story archive updates.
I've taken feedback from the last one and am starting the process of marking everything with a few new things...
Star Ratings
I want to actual make use of the star rating system a bit more. Stuff with 10 votes will be filed into one of 5 categories..
Star-1
Star-2
Star-3
Star-4
Star-5
Star ratings will be rounded up (since they tend to do halves which i hate) So something with 4.5 stars will just be 5.
For things that haven't reached 10 Star votes
Star-Needed
People have asked me to sort things by Stars since I added the blog, and I think this is the best way to do it. You can find these ratings in the "CATEGORIES" box under the poll next to episode download/steams
Author Tags
I have a ton of these tags in the categories. I just got done cleaning all of the tags with only 1 story under them out. Author Tags will be added once 2 stories are uploaded. I figure people can just search by story if you have only ever added 1. I will add your name in the actual story description though.
If you are an Author, you would make it 100 times easier if you emailed me a list of your stories, especially those that don't have author tags but need them. I know Knigh/tg/uy has uploaded more than 1 story, but I only have 1 tagged for example.
I know star rating is exploitable with multiple IP addresses, but there isn't a website out there with stories where this isn't an issue, so try to use the honor system. If i see a 10 star story with all 5's with 3 negative comments, I'll obviously know something is up.

sounds all good, i'd really like to meet a person using multi-ip's to bump pony fanfiction though

ReplyDeleteyou'd be surprised
The internet is a really strange place.
ReplyDeleteI might start reading fanfics in some time. This system will make it easier to go for the good ones.
Hey, could you slap an author tag on my fics?
ReplyDeleteI've got 2, just like you asked
I trust everyone here not to fuck with their fics by proxy voting them.
ReplyDeleteFrom what I have seen on 4chan, we may be a troubled bunch, but deception really doesn't seem to be a big deal.
Just keep it clean.
Also, whenever you get the chance Sethisto, can you label the fic "Aftermath" under my name? It might have been just a quick crack ship I wrote in one night, but it still holds a dear place in my heart.
Speaking of author tags, I've noticed my author tag is missing from some of my stories.
ReplyDeleteRace Day
Severing of Friendship
Spike's Welcome Home Going Away Party
Crossette
5 Minute Honeymoon

ReplyDeleteI'd be a little more concerned that a group of trolls could try to muck it up by swamping the vote, upping bad stories, downing good ones. But . . . *Shrugs* It's the internet. This systems is as good as any I've heard. Sounds like it'll encourage people to read new stories and direct people to good ones at the same time.
So what exactly does this do to the stories themselves? What if not alot of people bother rating the story? And what if you don't get 10 votes?
ReplyDelete@Anonymous
ReplyDeleteThere should be a "needs more votes" section IMO. Will allow for more reading for lesser known fics.
You work until noon tonight?

ReplyDeleteUnless I'm very much mistaken, the plan currently is to flag those stories not qualifying for this star treatment for featuring in the "Archeology" spotlight. So those that slip by relatively unrated will eventually get their day in the sun as part of a special resurfacing.
It ought to work out fine.

ReplyDeleteIf I ever get around to making another story, ill end up asking you to make an author tag for me, but I like the idea of a rating system for stories.
ReplyDeleteCannot for the life of me figure out how to find your e-mail address so I'm commenting here. I noticed you haven't put an author tag on any of my stories, probably because I don't use a tripcode. I don't particularly mind, I don't get any recognition for writing them, but if you're looking to categorize stories by author then I wrote "Correspondence," "Clean," and, uh, "Fluffershy". It seemed like a good idea at the time.

ReplyDeleteBlockbuster, until I'm laid off at least. Hopefully that doesn't happen but I don't know what they are planning anymore.
So how the fuck do we rate things with stars? I haven't seen an option nor an explanation for that yet
ReplyDeleteNot sure if Sethisto realizes this, but only people with a Blogger account who are signed in can rate things, or even see that the ratings exist. I was wondering the same person as the Anonymous above me, since I normally only sign in for comments. So, unless something is changed, ratings cannot be posted or even viewed anonymously.

ReplyDeleteIt's really buggy. Sometimes the star rating system appears, sometimes it doesn't. Go to the page for each individual story. If you see the stars, vote. If not, try refreshing.
