I'm surprised "yes" actually got only a little over half the votes. I guess people dont like to read these days? I read the fics all the time. I actually have a tab open with...*checking* 8 fics Im meaning to catch up on reading. Damn work =_=
This, essentially. I have read a few of the 'fics (all Normal ones, so far) but mainly check in here for pony news, art, music, and so on. I'm short on free time this year and choose my reading selections very infrequently as a consequence.
Hey. you know what would be more awesome than people just reading stories? VOTING ON THEM!!
OH, whoops; didn't mean to make that come out as mean. Ahem, what I meant was that, if a story out there really does catch your eye, you should really consider voting on that story and give it a rating you find it honestly deserves (other that just hitting 5 stars and then just moving on).
I read all of the fan-fiction on here because, honestly, what better way to keep my pony addiction at bay?
I just read the Derpy, Trixie, and Dr Hooves stories. Because those are not full characters yet (in Trixies case their motivations aren't really flushed out yet), people tend to put a lot more personality into them. At the same time, they still have a general template of behavior already laid out, so their stories are often more than just the angsty wining that you get from OC pony stories.
It's that nice balance of both plot and character that I find in one way or the other to often be lacking in the main cast or OC stories.
What 'annoys' me is that they spam up my RSS feed, not necessarily the fics themselves (though I'd likely never read any). Pretty much ignored, though I did vote the last option.
Unless you're already a solid artist, I don't think adding the art will pull in much more beyond who enjoyed the fics in the first place. I say this because I know an artist who has enough skills to tell their story with pictures and text overlays (and I generally like their characters), but it ends up becoming SO HUGE as a comic that I find it impossible to view every image separately. Unless they were combined into one big page per comic or something.
On the other hand, that same person, if they only had their content in story form with no images, I'd probably have never checked. Now what I haven't really seen is someone taking a combination route between the two or making their own visual-novel style fanfics. I personally would enjoy visual-novel style presentation (think Disgaea's cutscenes, BlazBlue's Story mode, or the NSFW game DYLHB from XYZ if you know it), but I can't speak for anyone else. (That said, the theme of the story is a big deal for whether I'll read it or not too, but if I were willing to read it as a text, and it had images, I'd more likely to read it *immediately* instead of days later.)
I guess what I mean is. Try it! Images at least help get attention if nothing else in addition to the normal writing.
I'm indeed not an solid artist. If I would do it would be just for fun. I was thinking of illustrating some key passages of the fictions. So if someone sees it they can(or not) be interested and might check the text.
I only occasionally read some of the fanfiction out of curiosity, but the rest that I don't read really doesn't annoy me. :P I think there's a good balance on this blog. If it was JUST fanfiction 24/7 I wouldn't be checking this place as often as I do.
I'm another one of those who didn't vote because there was no "some" or "occasionally" option. I do skim a tremendous number of them to try to get all of the labels right in the db (and the writer's name ...). I read too slowly to keep up on more than 5% (if that).
I voted yes, but I do not read Grimdark, and won't touch a Shipping fic unless I'm told it's hilarious or a friend gives me a great recommendation (Excluding fics mentioned at EqAD. Do pics go in the comments of the fics post as well?). I kinda like some crossover fics, and I'll read a normal fic if it either lines up with my goofy thoughts really well, gives me good reason to think I'll come back with LOLs from it, or if balloons are mentioned/shown in the post with the link.
Usually, when I read them, I skim or skip expository content and zip straight to the juicy dialogue bits or areas that focus on characters I really like. If I really get into the fic, I'll go back and reread it more thoroughly.
It depends, I do read a few of the stories although I about always avoid Grimdark. Many of the stories are also Shipping, which in itself I don't mind, but usually I don't see the paring as something that would happen in my mind and reading the story often doesn't change that (to be fair I have read a couple excellent shipping ones).
Actually, I do read some of it here from time to time.
Thing about fan-fic vs. fan-art is, if a piece of fan-art is lousy, you can skip over it with little time lost. You don't always know whether a fan-fic is a waste of your time until you've already gotten into it.
A lot of haters in the comments, here. Seems that 81 are a rather vocal minority, lol.
Personally, I read most of the fics here, other than the Equestrian War ones and a few of other other grimdark types. I find the normal fics a good way to get my fix of pony in between new episodes (I hope we get a ton of fics during the upcoming gap), and I find most of the shipfics rather cute.
Also, Dash's huge presence in shipping fics helps get me to my necessary quota of Dash for the week. It's been very helpful the last few episodes where she hasn't had any focus, 'cuz without a dose of Dash every now and then bad I might go crazy, lol. XD
Well high five for reading anyway =D I read much more things online but when I get than chance to go to Barnes & Noble I take away about $150 in books. God that card has saved me some money.
I'd have liked to be able to answer "occasionally," because a lot of it is worth checking out--but I often have to wonder how anyone has the time to do so, never mind write it! I skim over a lot. And as for categories, shipping is probably my least favorite, because it has to be one that I *really* like in that case.

It really should have had an "Occasionally" option.

VastaKustutaI read a few of them, but I selected no because I didn't read the mass majority of them (I usually only read some of the grimdark and normal).
VastaKustutaI'd like to see a multioption poll on which kinds of fics people read. Normal, shipping, grimdark, crossover, which is more popular?
VastaKustuta@Anonymous
VastaKustutaI did a similiar poll a while back before crossover/sad/random were added. Normal won.

VastaKustutabrb, writing Dr Trixpy Hooves fanfiction. I mean, what?

VastaKustutaI wanted a
VastaKustutaYes, but I go for all my pony needs
Because I don't go here just for Fan fiction
So I voted Yes
I recently started drawing some of the ponies. Would you read the fictions if they were in a cartoon form?(Non-animated ofc)

@ComTwoKForty
VastaKustutaSounds like a good idea to me. *Thumbs up*
I never read the shipping or grimdark stories. I only read normal, crossover, and my favorite.. RANDOM!
VastaKustutaCan't say that I'm really into the fics. I'd rather read comics regarding ponies.
VastaKustutaThe only one I've read was the DnD fic.
I only occasionally read some of the fanfiction out of curiosity, but the rest that I don't read really doesn't annoy me. :P I think there's a good balance on this blog. If it was JUST fanfiction 24/7 I wouldn't be checking this place as often as I do.

VastaKustutaI read 121 books last year.
I will not touch fanfic/shipping.
