At least our crazy Emo-Luna fan theories will still hold up for a few more months, but I was dying to see what she was really like.
And maybe she will be a common character for season 2? With all sorts of continuity?
Or maybe she will be part of a resistance to take down the TYRANT CELESTIA?!

As much as I wanted to see more of what LF had in store for Luna's character, I prefer this. I don't want her shoehorned into episodes, but rather be the subject of future plots.
ReplyDeleteMaybe she might be included in some continuity episodes in S2 concerning the dark magic that transformed her into NMM? Although, i wonder what the effect of a centralized antagonist in the show would do to it.

ReplyDeleteAnimation on Season 2 starts in April; I'm pretty sure stuff must have been written for it by now.
Not to say they couldn't take some inspiration from the fan community, though. They did it with Derpy; it wouldn't surprise me if Luna's character took a bit from it, as well.
Luna won't appear until season 2 because she is busy organizing the resistance movement against the foul tyrant Celestia.

ReplyDeleteI'll be honest, if they did go through with the whole "lonely Luna" thing I'd be pretty disappointed. The fanon Luna character has been played so much that actually seeing it in the new season wouldn't feel new or interesting, it'd just feel rehashed. That's just me of course, but personally I hope they don't do that... I'd love to see something different, but also unique, and not completely expected.
this is good and bad - good in that we have a double-confirmation on season 2 AND Luna episode(s). Bad in that we've got to wait a year for Luna.

ReplyDeleteThere seems to be a misunderstanding about Derpy in the community. There was no influence from the fan community with Derpy, I believe. Lauren Faust said an episode takes a whole year in total to develop, from start to finish. I expect that most of the episodes were already written and in development by the time people even noticed Derpy. I'm personally thinking that the animators were just messing around with her out of boredom. And they do seem to like that googly-eyed look in general.
I can understand why people can come to that conclusion though.

*cut to five months later*
Luna, her crown and horseshoes with visible cracks, her hooves frostbitten from the harsh winter slowly pulls herself into her agent's office.
"Any word yet?"
The agent gulps, "Actually yes, you've been confirmed for next season. So we'll need you around... next November."
Luna struggles to manage a smile, "Do they still like me online?"
The agent looks at her computer displaying "Luna's Magic Wand". She makes an awkward smile, "They still LOVE you."
"That's... good, right," Luna asks before she bursts out crying.

I bet the real reason behind the letters Twilight sends Celestia, is so Luna can learn about her experiences. Celestia reads them like a parent getting a letter from their child who's ten states away, then passes them to Luna who uses them to learn about friendship, how to get along with others, how to over-come your differences and disputes, etc.
