• Help Japan!

I know it's not pony related, and I know I will probably get crap for it, but I agree with ponychan on this one.

So I'm posting this list of ways to help out with the crisis in Japan from Yahoo.  Do what you will with it, but ask yourself this... Would we even have super cute ANIME-eyed Twilight Sparkle without Japan?  I think not.

    So lets return the favor!

    How To Help Japan

    1. Just one thing to say, and the current comic in here says it.

    2. I feel really terrible for what happens to Japan.
Even with all the shit childporn animes they do recently, no nation deserves this...

    3. i agree with this off topic post, poor japan :(

    4. As much as i'd love to, i can't donate anything...
Sometimes my school does stuff to raise money to help others (like with Haiti), so i hope they'll do something about this so i can help out.

    5. Helping others in their hour of need is ALWAYS pony-related! If there's one thing that this show teaches, it's camaraderie, friendship and helping others. :)

Paypal has a nifty 'Japan needs your help' graphic on their front page. Once you click it, you'll be taken to a page with large button graphics for several choices of charity, plus a dropdown with additional choices.

I did a little research on the choices provided, and decided to give to AmeriCares, as they are [a] not religiously affiliated (I want to help Japan, not try to convert it) and [b] extremely efficient at getting the money you donate to those in need.

here is their Charity Navigator ratings page. They seem really great.

If everypony chips in, even a tiny bit, it will help!

    6. Ack. The site did something weird to my links.

Anyways, here is AmeriCares's Charity Navigator page:

And here is a screenshot of where to find them on Paypal's donation page:

    7. I already donated some dough :)

    8. It's not as off topic as you think. Helping those in need is always Pony related.

And above, I'm helping because it's the right thing to do. My opinions on Japan have absolutely no impact on whether or not I donate.

    9. Or the guy deleted the post. Hey, whatev.

    10. And yeah, I gave because it's the right thing to do. I gave to Haiti when Haiti had their Huge Natural Disaster as well. It's just the right thing to do.

    11. the japanese people have brought all of us enough joy its the least we can do

    12. Yup! Being one of those with extra money, I just sent a contribution.

    13. The old /b/tard in me wants to make dark jokes about the whole thing, while the /b/rony wants to help some friend ive never met.

Im gonna go with the ponies on this one.

    14. I applaud you for posting this, Sethisto. Bravo!

    15. Helping friends is very much on-topic, I'd say. Plus, Japan is really some of the least people to deserve this on Earth.

However the rational person in me tells everyone to hold onto their money and vigor for when oil-dollar collapses in on itself. Japan is one of very few that stand a chance then.

    16. Donated Red Cross just this morning, actually.
      Yay support and friendship!

    17. Thanks for the link! Just made my donation to the cause.

    18. I already donated 10 bucks to the red cross by texting REDCROSS to 90999. You should too! It's instant and will appear on your phone bill.

    19. I ought to receive my WV state income tax refund soon, much of which I'll be donating to the Red Cross. Off-topic? No way, not even close. Supporting the devastated nation of Japan reflects the magic of friendship, and that's as pony-related as it gets.

Charity need not be a rarity. Looking at these comments, it's not going to be. Much love, pony folk.

    20. I know things are really shit, wish i could do something.
However Anime was inspired by the Scrooge Mc Duck Comics created by Carl Barks, Funny enough the same goes for the Plot of Inception

    21. Even though Japan bombed us in WWII, Who says the USA holds grudges, :p. It seems the US is involved in every world issue right now... -_-". Take the US troops out from every country and put them in Japan and the Mexican boarders...

Cool, thanks! I don't have a card, so this is really helpful!

NO! No politics! just donations! No shitstorms allowed!

    24. A friend and art mentor of mine lived in the area most badly hit.

Houses around his immediate vicinity were either burning or swept away. He lived in a high-rise block that did not topple over, and could see the carnage for miles. He lived, thankfully, along with two of his friends whose houses are probably floating and on fire somewhere inland as I speak.

They're still putting people into bags, right now. And that's only for one small part of the coastline.

In the face of disaster aid has been sent from all over the world... I don't think it's too strange for aid to come from this site as well.

Of course, *without* political reasoning or undertones.

    26. Ugh. Don't. DON'T call ponies "anime-eyed". I hate anime. Don't ruin ponies for me, please.

      ReplyDelete
    27. @Fred
      I concur. Anime-eyed? NO.
      Can't stand animes.
      But I loves thems ponies.
      Donating now.

    28. A student group at UNL is doing a J-rock concert on Tuesday with a benefit raffle, so I'll be able to help a little that way.

    29. *sniff* I love you guys. This makes me so very proud to be a brony. This has been an incredible week for this community. Free hugs for all!

    30. No crap and no flack and no jokes. They have been hit by earthquakes that aren't finished yet, a killer tidal wave, they are fighting to contain several nuclear power plants and they even have a volcano erupting. Even small donations can help because it all adds up. You know Ponyville would aid another town in need. We can certainly do what we can to show some real life friendship.

    31. While Japan is in need of assistance, we would most likely have these ponies even without the assistance of Anime. Lauren Faust herself stated that the big eye influence is a normal character trait of baby and compassionate characters, and has been a dominating factor in western cartoons just as often as eastern cartoons. I've come across many people who will not even watch the show as they feel it is anime based, anime created, or anime influenced, in which it is not, as stated by the creator herself.

    32. Man, it sucks how I JUST CAN'T DO ANYTHING!
The link posted seems to be purely about stuff you can do if you're in america.

I guess I can think some good thoughts for them though....

    33. If you don't have money to donate you can always offer something for the fandom auctions on the Help_Japan LJ community. That way you can help without having the money to donate. I'm offering pony art as well as other fandom art.

    34. I see more classic american influence in the show than anything else. Since Popeye's girl was wide eyed, does that mean she has japanese influences?
