Purple Tinker sent me this image of her new arcade controller. Rainbow Dash obviously makes anything 10 times better, and this is no exception.
(I'd use 20% cooler but this is way higher than 20%)
*edit* Actually, "she" made this. Sorry about the Confusion ;p

...I want this. So bad.
ReplyDelete20% cooler is so overused it's not even funny or clever anymore
ReplyDeleteDefinitely way higher. Forget 20%, try, like, 2000%.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, what is that controller for? You said arcade, but is it just for any old arcade game?
ALL MY FUCKING MONEY AND RAPE DOLLARS!!1
ReplyDelete@Pecan
ReplyDeleteIt appears to be for a PlayStation system of some form based on the buttons, prolly PS3 with USB cable. "Arcade" is the style of controller.
Damn, I am so jelly right now.
ReplyDeleteOh wow this is awesome.
ReplyDeleteIf it only wasn't a arcade controller!
ReplyDeleteI hate that stick thingy... shure, not as bad and hurt as the N64 stick, but still, it's too big... and I have tiny, tiny hands.
Awesome controller and all, but, uh, what the hell is meatless vegan jerky?
ReplyDeleteThat would be so amazing for long nights of Guilty Gear. Speaking of which, with all the pony game ideas floating around, why are there no attempts at a 2-D pony Arcade Fighter? I have this image in my head of Rainbow Dash performing a super-speed "teleporting all over the screen" overdrive combo thingy, and I wish like hell I had the programming expertise to make it a reality.
ReplyDeleteHas it Sanwa parts?
ReplyDeleteWHATEVER! IT'S FUCKING RAINBOW DASH!
DO
WANT
Sanwa parts, yes. The buttons are Sanwa, anyways; the stick will be soon. (Maybe this weekend I'll get around to modding that.) Also, fix your pronouns, Sethisto; I'm a filly. ;)
ReplyDeleteI love building these things, but they are VERY time-consuming. I could probably be persuaded to build more of them for a nominal fee if you provide the parts. If anyone wants, email me (prpltnkr at gmail dot com) and I can provide a complete parts list. :)
Oh, and as for what it is? It's a PS1/PS2 controller (the donor board inside is from a genuine PS1-era Dual Shock). I use it on a PS3 and on PC/Mac with a PS1/2 to USB adaptor (like :fivebux: from Amazon.com).
ReplyDelete(Digital arcade sticks like this should be suitable for any arcade-style fighting game, e.g. Street Fighter II, Street Fighter IV, Marvel v. Capcom 3, etc.)
ReplyDeleteNice job Purple, looks good!
ReplyDeleteJust out of curiousity, square or 8-way gate?
It's using the stock square gate at the mo, from the donor arcade stick shell. When I replace it with a Sanwa stick, I will replace the stock square Sanwa gate (say that five times fast) with an 8-way.
ReplyDelete"Badass Rainbow Dash". That's a pleonasm.

ReplyDeleteCan I get this in a PS3 controller?
ReplyDeleteMaybe. I could find a way to do it directly as a PS3 controller. It's actually a little better as a PS1/PS2 controller, though, as adaptors are available for PS1/PS2 to eeeeeeeverything. :) I use this primarily on a PS3 tho :)
ReplyDeleteBut yeah, I'm open to building more of these thingers.
ReplyDeleteMaybe a Pinkie Pie design next, based off of http://shelltoontv.deviantart.com/art/P-Team-Pinkie-Pie-188616016 ? :D
ReplyDeleteYou fantastic filly, how much would you charge for one of these?!? If you do begin creating more, would you be willing to use other artwork?
ReplyDeleteAnon, email me and we can talk turkey :)
ReplyDelete@Purple Tinker
ReplyDeleteDo you use AIM? If you do, we could talk anytime. My email is jjonahmitchell@aim.com
I think.
And I agree that we need a Pony Fighter game. The nature of MLP suggests some unconventional play mechanics though. Imagine a four-player cooperative network game, with Twilight, Rainbow Dash, Applejack, and Fluttershy (stare/soothe beast powers) vs. a dragon, basilisk, cockatrice, Ursa Major, etc. :)
ReplyDeleteI'm 'purplemayim' on AIM. AIM any time.
ReplyDeleteAlright, this is >9000% cooler than anything else I plan on seeing today. However made this, wherever you are, congratulations. You have just won the internet.
ReplyDeleteA winner is me! \o/ (I made this)
ReplyDeleteI think I will find a way to use this to control Rainbow Dash Attack :)
ReplyDeleteSweeeet. (FYI I'm the one who asked about ps3 controller)
ReplyDelete@ Anonymous: Meatless vegan jerky=something wonderful and delicious. 6=
ReplyDeleteAnd that controller...DO WANT NAO. 'Tis at least 250% cooler than any ordinary controller.
Anyone who wants one of these, I'm willing to build one, but the parts alone cost around $75.
ReplyDeleteAnd then add shipping and handling..
ReplyDeleteThis thing looks awesome.
ReplyDeleteif a pony fighter was made i'd imagine it like Arcana Heart 3, Touhou or... Hokuto no Ken <.<
ReplyDeleteP.S. heck a Touhou shmup in Pony version is quite a good idea
I can't believe I'm getting this made. Hey, if anyone wants a Rarity fightstick, It will likely only cost $75. New art bumps the price to $100. God, tournaments are only gonna get better from here on out.
ReplyDeleteThe Rarity art is her with the army hat, not helmet.
ReplyDeleteWow this totally motivates me to finally get a stick. Although I'd put AppleJack on mine.
ReplyDeleteRarity art is done for the Rarity stick[s]. Mockups at http://skunkette.twu.net/rarity/
ReplyDeleteI can do AJ next.
ReplyDeleteseems kind of rude putting she in quotes... who cares if she is trans or not... this really pisses me off

ReplyDeleteI think Sethisto simply doesn't know how to use quotation marks.
ReplyDeleteNice layout, but I've already seen people making FiM joysticks in dustloop.
ReplyDeleteWell, the more the merrier! :)
ReplyDelete@Purple Tinker
ReplyDeleteIf you were going to do a PS3 version, the "easy" way would be to buy some shitty PS3 wired controller and simply take it apart and use the control lines via some modified switches and a spot of soldering...
Yeah, the problem is finding one with a decently easy-to-connect-to PCB.
ReplyDelete>Meatless Vegan Jerky
ReplyDeletewat
OhMyGoshOhMyGoshOhMyGoshOhMyGoshOhMyGoshOhMyGoshOhMyGoshOhMyGoshOhMyGoshOhMyGoshOhMyGoshOhMyGoshOhMyGoshOhMyGoshOhMyGoshOhMyGoshOhMyGoshOhMyGoshOhMyGoshOhMyGoshOhMyGosh...
ReplyDeletedo want.
Where did you get your artwork?
ReplyDelete@xVersatile It's an edit/rework I did of P-Team: Rainbow Dash by ShelltoonTV. http://shelltoontv.deviantart.com/art/P-Team-Rainbow-Dash-188498542
ReplyDeletethanks : ), i will have troubles photoshopping the picture >.<
ReplyDeletelook at the joystick and the term 'I have the weirdest boner right now' springs to mind...
